Rangers' Fast Set To Play Monday

News: Jesper Fast (knee) will reenter the lineup Monday against the Predators, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: New acquisition James Sheppard isn't expected to arrive in New York prior to Monday's puck drop, paving the way for Jesper Fast to play for the first time since Feb. 7. It appeared that he had been recovered from the sprained knee ahead of the Rangers' last game Saturday against the Flyers, but the coaching staff opted to hold him out as a precaution. It's unclear if Fast will be able to retain a regular spot in the Rangers' lineup once Sheppard joins the team.

Rangers' Fast Won't Play Saturday

News: Jesper Fast (knee) will not return to the Rangers' lineup Saturday against the Flyers, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast is rapidly closing in on a return, but coach Alain Vigneault suggested after Saturday's morning skate that the forward needed one more practice Sunday before the team would feel comfortable inserting him back in the lineup. Assuming Sunday's session goes well, look for Fast to make his first game appearance since Feb. 7 when the Rangers take on the Predators on Monday.

Rangers' Fast Closing In On Return

News: Jesper Fast (sprained knee) skated in a regular jersey at Thursday's morning skate, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast had been able to skate in a non-contact fashion over the preceding few days. With Fast beginning to increase his involvement, coach Alain Vigneault said the forward would be about "one or two practices away" from receiving clearance to play. In accordance with that, Fast's return could come Saturday against the Flyers, but Monday's tilt with the Predators is probably a more realistic target.

Rangers' Fast (Knee) Skates Sunday

News: Jesper Fast (knee) skated in a non-contact jersey Sunday morning, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast has been out since early February with a knee strain, but appears to be progressing. He's expected to be a full participant in practice this week, which could indicate his return is on the horizon.

Rangers' Fast Makes Progress

News: Coach Alain Vigneault noted that Jesper Fast (sprained right knee) should resume skating "within the next week," Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast -- who last suited up on Feb. 7 -- was riding a stationary bicycle on Thursday, a sign of progress, but based on the report, the forward's return to the Rangers' lineup is not imminent.

Rangers' Fast Out 2-3 Weeks With Knee Sprain

News: Jesper Fast will be out for two-to-three weeks, after suffering a sprained knee during Saturday's game against the Predators
Analysis: Jesper Fast was quickly ruled out for Sunday's game against Dallas, hinting at a fairly serious injury. Such suspicions were confirmed after Sunday's contest, when Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said Fast will miss the next two-to-three weeks. A move to injured reserve will likely come in short order.

Knee Sprain For Rangers' Fast

News: Jesper Fast was diagnosed with a sprained knee after leaving Saturday's game against the Predators, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Coach Alain Vigneault went ahead and ruled Jesper Fast out for Sunday's game against the Stars, but the forward's status beyond that should be known within the next couple of days. Predators goalie Pekka Rinne recently suffered a knee sprain and missed three weeks, so Fast could be looking at a similar multi-week recovery timetable.

Rangers' Fast Departs With Leg Injury

News: Jesper Fast was removed from Saturday's game against the Predators in the second period with a leg injury and will not return, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast suffered the injury when he collided into the boards with Predators defenseman Anton Volchenkov. He'll be listed as day-to-day, but his chances of playing Sunday against the Stars wouldn't appear promising.

Rangers' Fast Collects An Assist

News: Jesper Fast collected an assist and three shots on goal in Saturday's win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: That's two points in three games for the young Swede. After finding the net in the first tilt of 2015, the 23-year-old Jesper Fast went eight straight without a point. While he has just eight points through 34 games, it's encouraging to see the 23-year-old start to increase his production as the season grows.

Fast Quietly Engulfed In Rangers' Lineup?

News: Jesper Fast, who snapped a 10-game goalless drought recently, has just three goals and six points in 23 games played.
Analysis: The sophomore Swede has been averaging third line minutes alongside Kevin Hayes and Carl Hagelin and has ton of upside, but has not flashed much of it. Even if he were to catch fire, there's not much of a chance he would be promoted beyond his third line duties, seriously saddling his speculative fantasy value, but there's no telling with mad-scientist and head coach Alain Vigneault behind the bench.

Rangers' Fast Silenced In Past Six

News: Jesper Fast registered a minus-1 and one shot on goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Devils.
Analysis: The young swede has been very quiet during his current six game point-scoring drought, logging just three shots on goals and a minus-3 rating and averaging 11-minutes a game. The 23-year-old has just two goals and three assists in 21 games played.

Rangers' Fast Notches First Career Goal

News: Jesper Fast notched his first career NHL goal midway through the second period as the Rangers defeated the Flyers 5-2 on Saturday.
Analysis: It took a total of 22 games, but the Swedish winger finally notched his first NHL goal. A natural goal scorer, it's a little surprising that it has taken this long for Jesper Fast to find he back of the net, but he also hasn't shot the puck much with just 15 shots in 22 games. He's been used sparingly by head coach Alain Vigneault, but hopefully that will change when Fast gets more confidence.

Rangers Recall Fast

News: The Rangers recalled Jesper Fast from AHL Hartford on Monday, Andrew Gross of the Record reports.
Analysis: The reassignments of Conor Allen and Ryan Malone on Monday freed up two roster spots, one of which will be taken up by Jesper Fast. The winger has a goal and eight assists through 11 games with AHL Hartford to date.

Rangers Return Fast To AHL

News: Jesper Fast was assigned to AHL Hartford on Friday.
Analysis: The AHL assignment comes on the heels of Jesper Fast serving as a healthy scratch during the Rangers' last two games. Since a return to a regular line was unlikely to come to fruition any time soon, the Rangers decided Fast would benefit from some more time in the minors.

Rangers' Fast Healthy Scratched Tuesday

News: Jesper Fast, who missed Sunday's game with an arm injury, will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's tilt with the Islanders, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast's health is apparently intact after nursing the injury for the first week of the season, but his standing as a regular in the Rangers' lineup may not be. He attempted just three shots and posted a minus-1 rating over the first three games, production that may not afford him much more room for error when he reenters the lineup for the Rangers, likely on Thursday.

Rangers' Fast Out Sunday

News: Jesper Fast will not play Sunday against the Maple Leafs, The Record reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast, who played through an arm injury Saturday, was going through pregame warmups but did not take part in line rushes. He'll rest Sunday and should be considered day-to-day going forward.

Rangers' Fast Practices Friday

News: Jesper Fast, who suffered a hand injury in Thursday's win over the Blues, returned to the ice for practice Friday, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Jesper Fast's left hand is probably still a little sore after he blocked a shot Thursday, but it shouldn't jeopardize his availability for Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets. The 22-year-old skated on the fourth line at Friday's practice.

Fast Scores From Rangers' Fourth Line

News: Jesper Fast had a game-tying goal in the third period of Sunday's preseason loss to New Jersey.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Swedish winger played on the team's fourth line with Dominic Moore and newcomer Tanner Glass. Despite posting a donut in 11 regular season games last year, Jesper Fast managed an assist in the team's cup run and fits head coach Alain Vigneault's customary blueprints. He's far from a lock to make the team out of camp, but scoring points never hurt anyone.
