Flames' Granlund Out Sunday

News: Markus Granlund (illness) is day-to-day with a lower-body injury, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 the FAN reports.
Analysis: Markus Granlund will miss Sunday's game against the Predators, with his availability for Monday's game against the Stars cloudy, as well.

Flu Keep Flames' Granlund Out Of Practice

News: Markus Granlund missed Saturday's practice due to a case of the flu.
Analysis: The illness could put Markus Granlund at missing Sunday's game against the Predators. Josh Jooris centered the Flames' third line at practice with Granlund unavailable.

Flames Recall Granlund From AHL

News: Markus Granlund was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Wednesday.
Analysis: Markus Granlund has served multiple stints in the NHL this season, recording five goals and eight assists in 37 contests. The 21-year-old has been having a successful campaign in the AHL, working at almost a point-per-game pace. The Flames return to action Thursday against the Flyers, so Granlund should slot into the lineup then.

Flames Reassign Granlund To Minors

News: Markus Granlund was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The Flames sent down a trio of players to Adirondack on Monday in what was believed to be a procedural move to keep all three eligible for the AHL postseason, but Markus Granlund will end up sticking in the minors, while Emile Poirier and Michael Ferland were immediately recalled. The fact that Granlund will remain with Adirondack likely indicates that the Flames didn't have a regular spot available for him. It may take another injury for the Finn to find his way back to the NHL.

Flames Recall Granlund From AHL

News: Markus Granlund was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Thursday, Roger Millions of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: According to Derek Willis of Sportsnet 960 The Fan, Markus Granlund will enter the lineup immediately for the Flames in their game Friday against the Ducks. The 21-year-old has spent most of his 2014-15 season with the Flames, registering five goals and 13 points in 33 games before his most recent demotion.

Flames' Granlund Gets Reassigned

News: Markus Granlund was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Thursday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: With the Flames' current forward ranks presumably in good health heading into Friday's tilt with the Sharks, the team decided to send Markus Granlund to the minors ahead of the weekend in an effort to grant him more ice time. Granlund didn't appear in either of the two matches he was present for following his Feb. 2 call-up.

Flames Recall Granlund

News: Markus Granlund was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Monday.
Analysis: Markus Granlund's return to the NHL team could mean Mikael Backlund, who is a game-time decision for Monday's contest, is not ready to return just yet. In a corresponding move, David Wolf was placed on the IR with a leg laceration, so Granlund's presence with the team will likely last for as long as either Backlund or Wolf are out.

Flames' Granlund Reassigned To Adirondack

News: Markus Granlund was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Thursday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Since being recalled from AHL Adirondack two weeks ago, Markus Granlund has either served as a healthy scratch or seen light minutes on the third- or fourth-line. With the NHL breaking for the next several days for the All-Star Game, Granlund will be able to see more regular ice time in the minors for the time being. Expect him to be recalled from Adirondack prior to the Flames' next game Tuesday against the Sabres.

Flames Recall Granlund

News: Markus Granlund was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Thursday.
Analysis: Mikael Backlund's return from injured reserve just a day earlier resulted in Markus Granlund being sent down to the minors. However, with Josh Jooris now ailing for the Flames, the 21-year-old Granlund will get a chance to prove himself again. He's expected to step in as the team's' third-line center for the time being, with his stay with the Flames likely to be dictated by the length of Jooris' absence, which remains unknown at the moment.

Flames Reassign Granlund

News: Markus Granlund was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Wednesday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: As expected, Markus Granlund was returned to the minors after Mikael Backlund (abdomen) was activated from injured reserve and reinserted into the lineup. Granlund had some good moments during his time in Calgary, but his struggles in the faceoff circle and on the defensive end were too glaring to justify keeping him around any longer.

Flames' Granlund Likely To Be Sent Down

News: With Mikael Backlund's return imminent, Markus Granlund is likely to be sent down to the AHL, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Markus Granlund got off to a hot start this season, but has been mired in a slump. Some more time to develop in the AHL should do him some good.

Flames' Granlund Tallies Game-Winner Monday

News: Markus Granlund tallied the game-winning goal Monday against the Kings.
Analysis: Markus Granlund was the recipient of a beautiful setup from Jiri Hudler, who along with Johnny Gaudreau, could help the center unlock some potential on the top line. The 21-year-old isn't scoring with much consistency yet and is probably a few years away from enjoying sustained success, but the Flames appear inclined to hand him high-leverage minutes and let him learn on the job.

Flames' Granlund Ends Slump In Loss

News: Markus Granlund scored his fourth goal of the year Tuesday, but it was the Flames' lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Toronto.
Analysis: The goal -- and his 8-for-13 performance on faceoffs -- ends a seven-game stretch of simply brutal play by Markus Granlund. He had not only failed to find the scoresheet and gone minus-4 over those seven games, but also had lost a spectacular 70 percent of his faceoffs -- 63 out of 90. He'd been off to a strong start before that, so Granlund certainly has the ability to turn things around.

Another Two-Point Game For Flames' Granlund

News: Markus Granlund delivered his second consecutive two-point game Tuesday against the Ducks, picking up two assists and going plus-3 with a pair of penalty minutes in a 4-3 shootout win.
Analysis: Don't look now, but the younger Markus Granlund brother has eight points in nine games with Calgary since being recalled from AHL Adirondack. With 46 points in 52 AHL games last year, the Finn's shown legitimate offensive upside in the North American game, and his early production this year should have fantasy owners running to the wire to check on his status.

Granlund's Two Points Power Flames To Victory

News: Markus Granlund netted a goal and an assist in Saturday's win over Ottawa.
Analysis: Markus Granlund continues to deliver this season, recording three goals and six points in eight games. Currently centering the second line, there is no reason the 21-year-old can't continue producing at the rate he is right now. He's worth a look in deeper formats.

Flames' Granlund On A Roll

News: Markus Granlund scored the game-tying goal in a 4-3 overtime victory over Washington on Tuesday.
Analysis: Markus Granlund has a point in each of his first three games, and is doing his best to make who to send back down when Matt Stajan gets healthy a difficult decision. In 10 career games, Granlund has six points, and he has a bright future.

Flames' Granlund Nets First Of Season

News: Markus Granlund scored his first goal of the season in Sunday's 6-2 win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Filling in for the injured Matt Stajan, Markus Granlund now has a point in both of his appearances this season. The 21-year-old has showed some promise in his limited playing time, but he may not get a ton of time once some of his injured teammates return.

Flames' Granlund Recalled From AHL

News: Markus Granlund was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Wednesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: A knee injury will sideline Matt Stajan for approximately six weeks, opening the door for Markus Granlund to see his first extended run with the NHL club. Granlund, a second-round pick in 2011, has played in eight games with Adirondack this season, chipping in three goals, two assists and 10 penalty minutes.

Flames Assign Granlund To Minors

News: Markus Granlund was assigned to AHL Adirondack on Tuesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Analysis: A concussion suffered Sept. 27 sidelined Markus Granlund for the remainder of the Flames' preseason games thereafter, likely dashing his chances of staking a claim to a roster spot. On a positive note, he was able to get a skate in Monday, and the fact that he was assigned to the minors rather than injured reserve suggests he's been cleared for contact.

Flames' Granlund Skates

News: Markus Granlund (concussion) skated Monday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Markus Granlund will still need to be cleared for contact before he can suit up for a game, but it looks like he's progressing. He collected two goals and an assist in seven games last season, and is expected to be a big part of an exciting young Flames team this season.

Flames' Granlund Dealing With Concussion

News: Markus Granlund is currently going through the NHL's concussion protocol, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: Markus Granlund suffered the injury Friday and has been held out since. It remains to be seen when he will play next, but he will need to be cleared to do so.

Flames' Granlund Out For Sunday

News: Markus Granlund will miss Sunday's preseason game with a suspected concussion, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Markus Granlund left Friday's game with an injury which the team now suspects is a concussion. The good news is that Granlund's shoulder did not flare back up, but obviously a concussion is never good. There's no timetable for his return at this point, but the center was a good candidate to make the team out of camp before suffering the injury.

Flames' Granlund Injured Friday

News: Markus Granlund (undisclosed) left in the second period of Friday's preseason game and did not return, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Markus Granlund is one of the brighter prospects the Flames have, as he was one of the top AHL players in Abbotsford last year and also had three points in seven games with Calgary. He struggled with a shoulder injury at the end of last season, so hopefully the injury is not to that shoulder again.
