Red Wings' Marchenko Demoted

News: Alexei Marchenko was returned to AHL Grand Rapids on Thursday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Alexei Marchenko got in the lineup for Wednesday's Game 7 loss to the Bolts, and with the Red Wings now eliminated from the playoffs, the 23-year-old will have a chance to extend his season in the minors for Grand Rapids' playoff run. He saw 13:11 of ice time Wednesday, the third game of the series that he played.

Red Wings' Marchenko To Enter Lineup For Game 7

News: Alexei Marchenko will be in the lineup for Wednesday's Game 7 against the Lightning, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Alexei Marchenko will fill in for Marek Zidlicky, who was diagnosed with a concussion and ruled out for Game 7. The 23-year-old played in the first two games of the series, but had been a healthy scratch for the last four with coach Mike Babcock choosing to bring Brendan Smith back in the lineup. Look for Marchenko, who tallied two points over 13 regular-season contests, to pair up with Jonathan Ericsson.

Red Wings' Marchenko Recalled From AHL

News: Alexei Marchenko was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Friday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Alexei Marchenko probably won't be a part of Detroit's lineup for the playoffs, but he may get into Saturday's relatively meaningless regular-season finale. He has two points in 12 NHL appearances this season.

Red Wings Send Marchenko Back To Minors

News: Alexei Marchenko was activated from injured reserve and assigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
Analysis: Alexei Marchenko appears to be recovered from the oblique injury that has sidelined him for the last two weeks, but the Red Wings have since added Marek Zidlicky at the trade deadline to take over his spot in the lineup. The 23-year-old tallied two points over his 12 games with the Red Wings.

Marchenko Traveling With The Wings

News: Alexei Marchenko (oblique) will join the Red Wings on their four-game road trip that kicks off Saturday in Philadelphia, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Alexei Marchenko hasn't been cleared yet to return from the oblique strain, but indicated that he feels comfortable with where he's at in the recovery process. The fact that he's traveling with the Red Wings likely signals that the team expects him to play at some point during the trip.

Wings' Marchenko Resumes Skating

News: Alexei Marchenko (oblique) was able to get in a skate Thursday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Alexei Marchenko seems to be progressing as anticipated from the injury, perhaps making him only a few days away from a return to game action. Once healthy, it's unclear if Marchenko will have a regular role waiting for him, as the newly acquired Marek Zidlicky might have permanently overtaken Marchenko for a role on the club's third defensive pairing.

Wings Place Marchenko On IR

News: Alexei Marchenko (oblique) was placed on injured reserve Monday.
Analysis: The transaction came after GM Ken Holland announced Monday afternoon that Alexei Marchenko suffered a strained oblique muscle in Saturday's game against the Predators, during which he scored his first NHL goal. The Red Wings have been satisfied with Marchenko's play since he arrived from AHL Grand Rapids in late January, but he'll have to wait a bit for his next chance to play. Holland said he expects to the blueliner to miss about a week of action.

Wings Bring Marchenko Up For A Look

News: Alexei Marchenko was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Friday, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: General manager Ken Holland expressed a desire to give Alexei Marchenko a trial run at the NHL level after he supplied 17 points in 42 games for the AHL squad. Marchenko's stay with the Red Wings isn't expected to be a long-term one, as the team appears committed to swapping Xavier Ouellet back into the lineup at some point next week.
