Bruins' Svedberg Shuts Down Jackets In Shootout

News: Niklas Svedberg made 21 saves in regulation before shutting down all seven Blue Jackets' shooters in the shootout Friday for his third win of the season.
Analysis: Not a bad outing for the Bruins' backup, who is now 3-3-0 on the season. When he gets called upon, which won't be often, Niklas Svedberg makes for a decent fantasy option in the crease. Tuukka Rask, who is the clear-cut starter in Boston, will return Saturday to play in the second half of the Bruins' back-to-back.

Bruins' Svedberg In Net Friday

News: Niklas Svedberg will start between the pipes Friday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg will receive the first of the starts in back-to-back games for the Bruins, while Tuukka Rask will return Saturday. Svedberg carries a 2-3-0 record witha 2.41 GAA and .917 save percentage into the matchup.

Bruins' Svedberg Expected To Start Friday

News: Niklas Svedberg is expected to start in goal Friday against the Blue Jackets, Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: The Bruins plan to split the starts for their weekend back-to-back between Niklas Svedberg and regular No. 1 goalie Tuukka Rask, and it looks like Svedberg will be tasked with leading things off with the easier matchup of the two in Columbus. The Metro Division cellar dwellers are averaging 2.44 goals per game, good for 23rd in the NHL.

Bruins' Svedberg Gives Up Five In Defeat

News: Niklas Svedberg was touched up for five goals on 34 shots in Thursday's loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Swede had been excellent as Tuukka Rask's backup to start the year, but turned in easily his worst performance Thursday. The B's as a whole struggled in this one, though, so we'll give everyone a mulligan.

Bruins To Start Svedberg On Thursday

News: Niklas Svedberg led the Bruins onto the ice for pregame warmups and will receive the start in goal Thursday against the Canadiens, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: With Tuukka Rask coming off a disastrous start Wednesday against the Maple Leafs and owning poor career numbers against the Canadiens (3-11-3, .902 save percentage in 18 games), coach Claude Julien decided to go with his backup for Thursday's match. Niklas Svedberg has been a more-than-adequate fill-in for the departed Chad Johnson as Boston's No. 2 goalie, as he enters the game with a 2-2 record, 1.87 GAA and .933 save percentage over six appearances this season.

Bruins' Svedberg Allows Two In Relief Effort

News: Niklas Svedberg came in in relief of Tuukka Rask during the second period of Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Rask was yanked near the beginning of the second period after allowing four goals, but the change was too little, too late for the Bruins. Niklas Svedberg surrendered two more goals on 15 shots, but should continue to be the backup moving forward.

Bruins' Svedberg Stops Just 13 In OT Win

News: Niklas Svedberg faced just 15 shots, stopping 13, during Thursday's 3-2 overtime win in Buffalo.
Analysis: This spot start turned out to be a much lower-effort affair than his last one, a week prior against the Isles, in which Niklas Svedberg was peppered with 38 shots. Despite the unimpressive save percentage he posted Thursday, Svedberg should remain a quality source of ratios and wins whenever he gets the chance to give Tuukka Rask some rest.

Bruins' Svedberg To Start Thursday

News: Niklas Svedberg will start Thursday's game against the Sabres, Amalie Benjamin of The Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Tuukka Rask will get the night off after giving up four goals in his last start, so Niklas Svedberg will start for the fourth time this season Thursday. He has a very favorable matchup against a Buffalo squad that has lit the lamp just 10 times in 10 games.

Bruins' Svedberg Loses Battle Of Backups

News: Niklas Svedberg stopped 35 of 38 shots Thursday against the Islanders, but was narrowly outplayed by opposing netminder Chad Johnson in a 3-2 loss.
Analysis: Johnson occupied Niklas Svedberg's role as Tuukka Rask's backup highly effectively last year, and in defeating his replacement, Johnson got a measure of revenge for the Bruins cutting him loose in the offseason. However, Svedberg has been great for the B's so far, having posted save marks of at least .921 in all four of his appearances (three starts), so they won't be too filled with regret.

Bruins Will Start Svedberg On Thursday

News: As expected, Niklas Svedberg has been confirmed as the starter in goal Thursday against the Islanders, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: In an interesting pregame subplot, the goalie in the opposite net will be the Isles' Chad Johnson, the man Niklas Svedberg replaced as the backup to Tuukka Rask. Svedberg has filled Johnson's shoes adequately thus far, surrendering only two goals on 64 shot attempts in his three games.

Bruins' Svedberg Expected To Start Thursday

News: Niklas Svedberg is expected to be between the pipes Thursday's game against the Islanders.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg was the first goalie off the ice following Thursday's morning skate, which puts him on track to start Thursday night. Svedberg has shined in limited action this season, posting a 0.91 GAA by giving up just two goals in 132:18 TOI.

Bruins' Svedberg Delivers Shutout

News: Niklas Svedberg made 32 stops Saturday to earn a shutout win over the Sabres. The game ended 4-0.
Analysis: Sure, the boys from Buffalo have a pop-gun offense, but Niklas Svedberg was kept busy -- the Sabres had seven power plays on the night. He is a strong option between the pipes whenever he plays. He'll deliver you strength from your bench.

Bruins Give Svedberg The Saturday Nod

News: Niklas Svedberg will receive the start in goal Saturday against the Sabres, Joe Haggerty of CSNNE.com reports.
Analysis: The inexplicable struggles of Tuukka Rask (2-3-0, 2.90 GAA, .870 save percentage) will result in Niklas Svedberg making his third appearance of the season Saturday. The Bruins certainly didn't expect Svedberg to play this frequently in the early stages of the campaign, but the rookie has proven up to the task thus far, saving 30 of the 32 shots he's faced. He'll represent an elite fantasy option Saturday against the 1-4 Sabres, who allow the most shots per game in the league and attempt the fewest.

Bruins' Svedberg Makes 28 Saves In Loss

News: Niklas Svedberg gave up two goals on 30 shots in Monday's loss to Colorado.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg, who is the backup to elite starter Tuukka Rask, was very good on Monday, almost helping the Bruins nab a point. With the game tied 1-1, Svedberg was beat with 0.4 seconds remaining in regulation, giving the Avalanche their first win of the season. If Monday is any indication, the Bruins will not shy away from giving the 25-year-old Svedberg the odd start every now and then.

News: Niklas Svedberg will start in net Monday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg will get his first start of the season Monday as he tries to keep the goalless Avalanche at bay once again.

Bruins' Svedberg On Tap For Backup Job

News: Niklas Svedberg is in line to serve as the backup to Tuukka Rask this season, CSNNE.com's Joe Haggerty reports.
Analysis: While Niklas Svedberg will technically have to compete with Malcolm Subban for the No. 2 gig, Svedberg is virtually assured of winning the role by virtue of the one-way contract he signed earlier in the summer. Though Rask figures to assume the overwhelming majority of the starts for the Bruins, previous understudies Anton Khudobin and Chad Johnson both delivered impressive numbers when called upon to play the last two seasons, thanks in large part to an impressive supporting cast. The Bruins should remain one of the NHL's strongest all-around teams on both ends of the ice in 2014-15, thereby giving Svedberg an uptick in value in fantasy leagues that start multiple goalies and allow daily roster moves.
