Svedberg Lends Bruins A Helping Hand

News: Niklas Svedberg allowed two goals on 18 shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg came on in relief of a possibly dehydrated Tuukka Rask in the second period to protect a 3-0 lead. Rask still earned the win but Svedberg could get the start Sunday versus the Hurricanes.

Bruins' Svedberg Allows One In Relief

News: Niklas Svedberg allowed one goal on seven shots after replacing the ineffective Tuukka Rask in the second period of Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg entered already facing a 4-1 deficit and the lone goal he allowed came on the power play, so he's hardly to blame for the loss. With the Bruins taking aim at a playoff berth down the stretch, Rask was given the nod in both ends of a back-to-back set over the weekend, so Svedberg is unlikely to see too much action in the team's final nine games.

Svedberg, Bruins Take Unexpected Loss

News: Niklas Svedberg stopped 23 of 24 shots Tuesday, but was stuck with a 2-1 shootout loss at the hands of the last-place Sabres.
Analysis: A spot start against the league's worst team had cake written all over it, and Niklas Svedberg did put up a .958 save mark and 0.93 GAA in the service of his fantasy owners, but the lack of a win has to sting. Put this one on the Boston offense for failing to get more than one out of 45 shots past opposing netminder Anders Lindback.

Bruins' Svedberg Confirmed For Tuesday

News: Niklas Svedberg has been confirmed as the starter for Tuesday's game against the Sabres.
Analysis: With Tuukka Rask reportedly under the weather, Niklas Svedberg will get the nod while Jeremy Smith presumably slots in as the backup goalie. Svedberg enters the net with a 2.43 GAA and .918 save percentage over 15 appearances, and while those numbers don't necessarily jump off the page, he'll make for one of the best fantasy goalie options for Tuesday's slate. The Sabres have dropped seven games in a row and are averaging just a league-worst 1.81 goals per contest, making just about every opposing netminder look good on any given night.

Bruins Expected To Turn To Svedberg On Tuesday

News: Niklas Svedberg is in line to start Tuesday's game against the Sabres, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.
Analysis: With Tuukka Rask having played both ends of the B's back-to-back set Saturday and Sunday, it looks like Niklas Svedberg will get a chance to start Tuesday against a Buffalo squad that is in last place in the NHL, but coming off a solid showing in Monday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Caps.

Bruins' Svedberg Stops 36 In Win

News: Niklas Svedberg turned aside 36 of 39 shots in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg notched his second win in a row, and third in his last four starts dating back to Jan. 8. The 25-year-old has been solid in limited action this season with a 2.43 GAA and .918 save percentage, but his playing time will likely be restricted to back-to-back sets as the Bruins make their push toward the playoffs.

Bruins Turn To Svedberg On Sunday

News: Niklas Svedberg will start in goal Sunday against the Red Wings, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg will receive the start in the second game of a back-to-back set Sunday as the Bruins continue to hang on to a the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Svedberg has been a serviceable backup behind Rask this season, accumulating a .917 save percentage and 2.39 GAA along with a 6-5-0 record. He made 29 saves last Saturday in a win over the Devils, and will look for a similar outcome against a tougher opponent Sunday in the Red Wings.

Bruins' Svedberg Makes 29 Saves In Win

News: Niklas Svedberg made 29 save on 31 shots in Saturday's win over the Devils.
Analysis: A strong outing for the 25-year-old, who started the game after it was ruled Tuukka Rask would be out with illness. Niklas Svedberg is now 6-5-0 on the season with a .917 save percentage and 2.39 GAA. He doesn't see much ation, but he's a reliable backup option behind Rask. If Rask isn't good to go Saturday, expect Svedberg to get the call against Arizona.

Bruins' Svedberg To Start For Ill Rask

News: Niklas Svedberg led the Bruins on the ice for pregame warmups and will make the start Friday against the Devils.
Analysis: The Bruins officially ruled Tuukka Rask out for Friday's game due to an illness, so Niklas Svedberg will step in for his first outing since Feb. 10 against the Stars. That start didn't go too smoothly, as he was pulled after allowing three goals on 10 shots in the game's first 20 minutes. Still, with the Devils' 28th-ranked scoring attack now without Jaromir Jagr, who was traded to Florida on Thursday, Svedberg should make for a dependable streaming option in leagues with daily roster moves.

Bruins' Svedberg Lasts Just One Period Tuesday

News: Niklas Svedberg was yanked at the first intermission Tuesday after allowing three goals on 10 shots.
Analysis: Tuukka Rask came in and stopped 20 of 21, but it wasn't enough to turn things around. On the bright side for Niklas Svedberg, it was Rask who was unfairly stuck with the loss. He'll probably take a seat on the bench for another while after affording Rask just one period of rest.

Bruins' Svedberg Draws Tuesday Start

News: Niklas Svedberg will start Tuesday's game against the Stars.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg, who will be making his 11th start of the season for the Bruins, will give Tuukka Rask his first breather since Jan. 8, a contest in which Svedberg turned away all 14 shots that he faced in a 3-0 win over New Jersey.

Bruins Likely To Turn To Svedberg On Tuesday

News: Niklas Svedberg appears on track to start Tuesday's game against the Stars, Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg's last start with the big club was back on Jan. 8, but it looks like he'll give Tuukka Rask -- who has started 11 straight games for Boston -- a breather on Tuesday.

Svedberg Rejoins Bruins

News: The Bruins have recalled Niklas Svedberg from his conditioning loan with AHL Providence, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg went 3-1-0 during his stint with Providence, compiling a 2.76 GAA and .911 save percentage in that span. Svedberg -- who last saw game action with the big club on Jan. 8 -- has appeared in 12 games for the Bruins this season, recording a 5-5-0 record, with a 2.22 GAA and .922 save percentage. Svedberg will return to serve as the Bruins' No. 2 goalie, an assignment that will draw him the occasional spot start, with backup Tuukka Rask having started 11 straight games for the team.

Bruins' Svedberg Sent On Conditioning Assignment

News: Niklas Svedberg was set to AHL Providence for a conditioning assignment Friday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The Bruins likely just want Niklas Svedberg to get some game action, as he hasn't played in a game since Jan. 8, with Tuukka Rask dominating the workload. Top goaltending prospect Malcolm Subban was recalled from Providence for the corresponding move, and while Svedberg will likely rejoin the Bruins soon, Subban's presence may eventually make the Swedish netminder expendable. Both Svedberg and Subban have been impressive this season, while Rask has been fantastic in January, following a disappointing first three months.

Easy Shutout For Bruins' Svedberg

News: Niklas Svedberg needed to make just 14 saves while coasting to a 3-0 silencing of the Devils on Thursday.
Analysis: New Jersey's offense certainly lived up to its awful reputation against Niklas Svedberg and the Bruins, who had exactly three times as many shots on goal (42) as the Devils managed. Nonetheless, it's a nice bounce-back outing for Svedberg, who had been pulled in his last start back on Dec. 27. Truly, with only a few exceptions, he's outplayed Tuukka Rask this year.

Bruins' Svedberg Gets Call Thursday

News: Niklas Svedberg led the Bruins onto the ice for pregame warmups and will thus receive the start Thursday against the Devils, Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Rather than turn to Tuukka Rask for the second night in a row, coach Claude Julien chose to go with the backup, who will make his 12th appearance of the season. Despite his limited usage, Niklas Svedberg has been mostly reliable when called upon, posting a 2.46 GAA and .918 save percentage. Against a Devils team that attempts the second-fewest shots per game in the league, Svedberg could be worth a roll of the dice in daily formats.

Bruins' Svedberg Pulled Early

News: Niklas Svedberg surrendered three goals on 15 shots before being pulled in the second period of Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg played fairly well in a rare start last month against Columbus, but the Bruins' attempt to duplicate that success did not go well. Tuuka Rask replaced Svedberg and had a similarly rough night, allowing three goals of his own.

Bruins Start Svedberg

News: Niklas Svedberg will start in net for Boston on Saturday against Columbus.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg will square off against Curtis McElhinney on Saturday, with Bruins' No. 1 netminder Tuukka Rask thus a candidate to start Monday night's game against Detroit.

Bruins' Svedberg Expected To Start Saturday

News: Niklas Svedberg is expected to be in the crease for Saturday's match with the Blue Jackets, Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg stopped 21 of 24 shots in a shootout victory over the Blue Jackets last month, so it appears coach Claude Julien will stick with him in the rematch in the hope of similar results. The Blue Jackets aren't exactly a fearsome matchup to begin with, but he'll catch even more of a break with their top netminder, Sergei Bobrovsky, unavailable with an illness. The unimpressive Curtis McElhinney will instead get the nod for Columbus, creating a strong opportunity for the Bruins to provide plenty of goal support for Svedberg.

Bruins' Svedberg Stops 35 In Win

News: Niklas Svedberg allowed two goals on 37 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Wild.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg improved to 4-4-0 on the year with the victory, and has played his best hockey of the year in his last two starts. He's worth keeping an eye on if Tuukka Rask ever goes down with an injury, but he's definitely still the backup for now.

Bruins' Svedberg To Start Wednesday

News: Niklas Svedberg led the Bruins on the ice for pregame warmups Wednesday night, and will start in goal against the Wild.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg will relieve regular starter Tuukka Rask, who will rest for the second night of a back-to-back set. The 25-year-old netminder owns a 2.28 GAA and .922 save percentage on the season.

Bruins' Svedberg Takes Tough-Luck Loss

News: Niklas Svedberg put a stop to 33 of 34 shots Tuesday against the Kings, but opposing goalie Jonathan Quick was one better, sending Boston to a 2-1 loss.
Analysis: Despite the loss, this is easily the best effort Niklas Svedberg's put forth since his Oct. 18 shutout of the Sabres. He'll continue to see spotty action behind Tuukka Rask.

Bruins To Start Svedberg On Tuesday

News: Niklas Svedberg will draw the start in goal Tuesday against the Kings, Curtis Zupke of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: With the Bruins opting to rest Tuukka Rask for the second game of the team's West Coast back-to-back, Niklas Svedberg will take his shot at downing Jonathan Quick and the Stanley Cup champs. The backup backstop owns a 3-3 record and 2.46 GAA over eight appearances on the season.

Bruins' Svedberg Shuts Down Jackets In Shootout

News: Niklas Svedberg made 21 saves in regulation before shutting down all seven Blue Jackets' shooters in the shootout Friday for his third win of the season.
Analysis: Not a bad outing for the Bruins' backup, who is now 3-3-0 on the season. When he gets called upon, which won't be often, Niklas Svedberg makes for a decent fantasy option in the crease. Tuukka Rask, who is the clear-cut starter in Boston, will return Saturday to play in the second half of the Bruins' back-to-back.

Bruins' Svedberg In Net Friday

News: Niklas Svedberg will start between the pipes Friday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Niklas Svedberg will receive the first of the starts in back-to-back games for the Bruins, while Tuukka Rask will return Saturday. Svedberg carries a 2-3-0 record witha 2.41 GAA and .917 save percentage into the matchup.
