Flames Recall Wotherspoon

News: Tyler Wotherspoon was called up from AHL Adirondack on Friday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: After getting soundly beaten by St. Louis on Thursday, Calgary opted to bring up some defensive help. Tyler Wotherspoon has yet to appear in an NHL game this season but had 24 points in 61 AHL games.

Flames Send Wotherspoon Down

News: Tyler Wotherspoon has been assigned to AHL Adirondack, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Tyler Wotherspoon has been called up a few times this season but has still not played in a game. Even with Mark Giordano out, Wotherspoon's odds of getting in an NHL game this year are slim.

Flames' Wotherspoon Recalled From AHL Adirondack

News: Tyler Wotherspoon was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Friday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports.
Analysis: With Mark Giordano (upper body) out for Friday's game against the Islanders, either Tyler Wotherspoon or Corey Potter will likely join the lineup. Giordano has not been ruled out beyond Friday.

Flames' Wotherspoon Reassigned To Minors

News: Tyler Wotherspoon was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Wednesday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Tyler Wotherspoon, 21, hadn't appeared in any games with the Flames since his Jan. 26 recall. With the team more eager to give Wotherspoon some further development time in the minors than have him stick around with the parent club as an extra defenseman, veteran Corey Potter was recalled from Adirondack to serve as the Flames' seventh blueliner.

Wotherspoon Recalled By Flames

Flames' Wotherspoon Reassigned To Minors

News: Tyler Wotherspoon was reassigned to AHL Adirondack on Thursday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Tyler Wotherspoon joined the Flames for Wednesday's game against the Ducks, but was only serving as an extra defenseman with Ladislav Smid (upper body) on IR. The 21-year-old is expected to be back with the parent club ahead of Tuesday's game against the Sabres, so it appears he was only sent to the minors in an attempt to stay active while the NHL breaks for the All-Star Game.

Flames Recall Wotherspoon

News: Tyler Wotherspoon was recalled from AHL Adirondack on Tuesday.
Analysis: A second-round pick of the Flames in 2011, Tyler Wotherspoon has produced two goals and 13 assists over 38 games at Adirondack this season. With Ladislav Smid heading to injured reserve in a corresponding move, Wotherspoon should have a real opportunity at competing with Raphael Diaz and Deryk Engelland for a regular role on the team's third pairing.

Flames' Wotherspoon Moved To Minors

News: Tyler Wotherspoon (shoulder) was assigned to the AHL Flames on Monday.
Analysis: With the free agent signing of Raphael Diaz on Monday, Tyler Wotherspoon was the odd man out and will begin the 2014-15 season in the minors, barring an injury from his fellow defensemen in Calgary. While this diminishes his value, he'll likely get an opportunity to play in the majors at some point during the season considering that he was on the cusp of making the 23-man roster.

Flames' Wotherspoon Beginning To Practice

News: Tyler Wotherspoon (shoulder) began practicing on his own Wednesday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Although Tyler Wotherspoon expects to be ready for full practices with the Flames within the next week, it sounds like the team isn't expecting him to return to game action for a little while longer. Wotherspoon is still behind the curve after he was sidelined for most of the summer following April shoulder surgery, which will likely result in him opening the season at the AHL level. If the 21-year-old proves healthy and effective with Abbotsford, it might not take long for him to earn his way back to the parent club.

Flames' Wotherspoon Awaiting Contact Clearance

News: After offseason shoulder surgery, Tyler Wotherspoon still has yet to receive medical clearance, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Tyler Wotherspoon is one of the contenders for the final few defenseman spots, so he's hoping to get cleared soon so he can show what he can do. He had a couple of points in limited action last season but has shown a lot of potential in both the AHL and NHL.
