Rangers Acquire Raanta From Blackhawks

News: The Rangers acquired Antti Raanta from the Blackhawks in exchange for Ryan Haggerty on Saturday.
Analysis: The Rangers were in need of a new backup goaltender after trading Cam Talbot to the Oilers in exchange for draft picks on Saturday. Antti Raanta will fit that role nicely, as he's shown promise when getting the start in net for the Blackhawks over the past two seasons. Although he's proven to be an above-average backup NHL goaltender, he became expendable with the emergence of Scott Darling last season. He went 7-4-1 with a 1.89 GAA and a .936 save percentage in 14 games with the Hawks in 2014-15.

Hawks Recall Raanta

News: The Blackhawks recalled Antti Raanta from AHL Rockford on Sunday.
Analysis: Antti Raanta gives the team another backup goalie option behind Corey Crawford to go along with Scott Darling as the NHL playoffs approach.

Blackhawks' Raanta Reassigned To AHL Rockford

News: Antti Raanta was reassigned to AHL Rockford on Saturday, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta has mostly been good this season, so the demotion is somewhat surprising. It may just be a temporary move, and Scott Darling was recalled to serve as Corey Crawford's backup.

Hawks' Raanta Struggles In Relief

News: Antti Raanta gave up two goals on 16 shots after replacing Corey Crawford in the second period of Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Antti Raanta wasn't at his sharpest as he gave up two goals in his first eight minutes of action, but the loss certainly doesn't fall on his shoulders as he inherited a three goal deficit from the ineffective Crawford. The brief outing did bring up his rate stats, but the 25-year-old has largely been very impressive in limited action.

Hawks' Raanta Hits The Pine Wednesday

News: Antti Raanta will be backing up Corey Crawford in goal on Wednesday as the Blackhawks take on the Canucks, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta was serviceable on Tuesday by saving 27 of 29 shots on goal in the 3-2 shootout loss against Arizona. It was the first loss for Raanta at home and is 7-0-1 in his eight starts in Chicago. He still has an overall 7-4-1 mark with a 1.81 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. Barring an injury by Crawford, Raanta will probably not be back in goal until either February 26 or February 27 with another back-to-back scenario against Florida and Tampa Bay respectively. As the regular season gets closer and closer to the end, Raanta probably won't even be in goal for back-to-back nights as the Hawks hand Crawford the bulk of the starts.

OT Loss for Hawks' Raanta

News: Antti Raanta made 27 of 29 saves in Monday's 3-2 shootout loss to the visiting Coyotes.
Analysis: Antti Raanta appeared to have his eighth win of the season in the bag late in overtime, but a lengthy video review ruled that Andrew Shaw's shot never conclusively made it past the goal line behind Mike Smith. The backup has been quite efficient this year -- posting a .938 save percentage and stingy 1.81 GAA in 13 appearances -- but won't see much time down the stretch as Chicago is all but certain to ride workhorse starter Corey Crawford into the playoffs.

Hawks' Raanta Tabbed As Monday's Starter

News: Antti Raanta will be between the pipes Monday against the Coyotes, Blackhawks announcer Judd Sirott reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will get the nod in the second game of a back-to-back after Sunday's win against the Blues. The 25-year-old netminder hasn't gotten many opportunities this season, but he's made the most of them when he has as he's 7-4-0 with a 1.80 GAA and .939 save percentage and draws a favorable matchup against Arizona.

Hawks' Raanta Could Start Monday

News: Antti Raanta will again be the backup Sunday against the Blues, but could be in goal Monday at home against Arizona, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville has split the goalie duties between Antti Raanta and Crawford in back-to-back scenarios. Raanta has been rock solid at home, with a 7-0 record, 1.29 GAA and .959 save percentage. He faced Arizona in Chicago on Jan. 20, earning a 6-1 win while saving 35 of 36 shots.

Hawks' Raanta Solid, But Not Good Enough Saturday

News: Antti Raanta stopped 18 of 19 shots Saturday against the Sharks, but found himself on the wrong side of a shutout by opposing goalie Antti Niemi.
Analysis: Antti Raanta wasn't tested much in this one and aced most of the chances he did see, but the first-period goal he allowed to the Sharks' Melker Karlsson proved to be the difference-maker in the contest. Even though the loss dropped his season record to 7-4-0, Raanta's outing reinforced that he's a rather dependable fantasy option just about whenever he mans the net, as he was able to improve his season GAA and save percentage to a phenomenal 1.80 and .939, respectively.

Chicago's Raanta Gets Starting Nod Saturday

News: Antti Raanta will start the second half of the Blackhawks' weekend back-to-back, manning the net for Saturday's game against the Sharks, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta's opportunities have been minimal this season, but he's been exceptional when called upon, going 7-3-0 with a 1.88 GAA and .938 save percentage in the first half. The Blackhawks' commitment to Corey Crawford will make it difficult for Raanta to earn a larger workload, but he should make for a superb streaming option nearly any occasion he takes the net.

Raanta Hits The Bench Wednesday Night

News: Antti Raanta will be back on the bench on Wednesday night for the Blackhawks as the team goes with Corey Crawford in goal against the Penguins, Tracy Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta was stellar in goal Tuesday night against Arizona, turning away 35 of 36 shots in the 6-1 victory. He is 7-3 for the season with a 1.87 GAA and a .939 save percentage. With Crawford participating in the All-Star game this weekend, Raanta could have a shot at starting against Los Angeles on Jan. 28 in the team's first game out of the break. More likely though, Raanta's next start will come the following weekend, when the Blackhawks kick off a back-to-back scenario on Jan. 30 and 31 at Anaheim and San Jose, respectively.

Hawks' Raanta Shines In Win

News: Antti Raanta turned away 35 of 36 shots in a 6-1 rout of the Coyotes on Tuesday.
Analysis: He continues to play like one of the better backups in the league, bouncing back nicely in this one from a substandard outing 11 days ago in Edmonton. Antti Raanta doesn't often get chances to start in his role as the backup to Corey Crawford, but when he does, he's a strong play.

Hawks Turn To Raanta On Tuesday

News: Antti Raanta is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Coyotes, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta -- owner of a 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage -- will draw his second start of the month on Tuesday, with Corey Crawford presumably in line to start Wednesday's game against the Penguins.

Raanta, Blackhawks Lose To Oilers Friday

News: Antti Raanta was brutal against Edmonton on Friday, giving up four goals on 21 shots in a 5-2 loss. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Analysis: After a six-game rest, Antti Raanta laid an egg against the league's worst team, dropping his record to 6-3-0 to go with a still-impressive 1.96 GAA and .934 save percentage in limited action this year. Corey Crawford is the man in the Windy City -- keeping Raanta glued to the bench most nights except in back-to-back situations where Crawford requires a rest -- and although Raanta's usually good for an occasional spot start given the potency of the Blackhawks offense, performances like this don't inspire much confidence.

Hawks' Raanta In Net Friday

News: Antti Raanta will start in net against the Oilers on Friday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will get the start in the second of back-to-back games Friday against the Oilers. His last appearance came in relief of Corey Crawford in late December, with him stopping 11 of the 12 shots he faced. He has been solid for the Blackhawks in net this season, but hasn't seen a lot of action, carrying a 6-2-0 record with a .944 save percentage and 1.73 GAA into the matchup.

Hawks' Raanta On The Bench Saturday

News: Antti Raanta will be on the bench on Saturday as the Blackhawks go with Corey Crawford to start against the Avalanche, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Despite Antti Raanta coming in relief for Crawford in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Jets, there is still no doubt that Crawford is still the Blackhawks' number one goalie. Unless Crawford gets injured or pulls another performance like he had against the Jets, Raanta might not see the ice on either January 8 or 9 when the Blackhawks have a back-to-back scenario. Raanta carries a 6-2-0 record, 1.73 GAA and .944 save percentage.

Hawks' Raanta Thrives In Relief

News: Antti Raanta stopped 11 of 12 shots in relief of Corey Crawford in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Crawford was pulled with less than five minutes remaining in the first period after surrendering three goals on 13 shots. The Blackhawks were unable to dig themselves out of the three-goal deficit despite Antti Raanta's steady work in the net, but if nothing else, the team can take solace in that their backup goalie has looked highly capable this season. In his nine appearances, Raanta carries a 6-2-0 record, 1.73 GAA and .944 save percentage.

Hawks' Raanta Shuts Down Maple Leafs

News: Antti Raanta stopped all 31 of the shots he faced in Sunday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Well, that was simply a Antti Raantastic effort from the 25-year-old. Raanta has been very reliable this season, winning five straight games and allowing only eight goals in that span. With a crazy .945 save percentage and 1.76 GAA on the season, Rannta is a great fantasy option whenever starter Corey Crawford is given the night off.

Hawks' Raanta To Start Sunday Night

News: Antti Raanta will start for the Blackhawks against the Maple Leafs on Sunday night in a back-to-back scenario, the CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: With starting goalie Corey Crawford returning last night from a foot injury, it was expected that Antti Raanta would get the start. Raanta could continue to get one of the back-to-back scenario as the season goes along; but when Crawford was healthy, Hawks' head coach Joel Quenneville was going Crawford even in the back-to-back scenarios. Raanta has a 5-2 mark with a 2.01 goals against average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage this season.

Hawks' Raanta To Backup Crawford Saturday

News: Antti Raanta will back up Corey Crawford Saturday, but could get the call on Sunday night against the Maple Leafs, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: In previous seasons, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville had split back-to-back games between his two goalies. For most of 2014-15 he has stuck with Crawford for most if not all of these scenarios. Crawford, though, is just returning from a foot injury that kept him out for a few weeks so the team might go to Antti Raanta against Toronto on Sunday night. Raanta has a 5-2 mark with a 2.01 goals against average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage this season.

Hawks' Raanta Stays In NHL, Darling Sent Down

News: Antti Raanta will remain with the Blackhawks as the team sent down Scott Darling to Rockford of the AHL on Tuesday, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: The decision to keep Antti Raanta up with the big club and send Darling down to Rockford was a tough one. The move was made with the anticipation that starting goalie Corey Crawford will return this weekend after missing a few weeks because of an injury. While Crawford was out, Darling actually had more starts, but the move might have been to give more net time for Darling. Unless Crawford sustains another injury, Raanta will most likely only see an occasional start. He has played well in goal with a 5-2 record, a 2.01 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. Despite the return of Crawford, Raanta will probably start in a back-to-back scenario this weekend, Saturday against Columbus and Sunday against Toronto.

Raanta Gives Up Three, 'Hawks Still Win

News: Antti Raanta gave up three goals on 29 shots Tuesday, but held down the fort enough to end up with a 5-3 win over the Wild.
Analysis: That's four straight wins for Antti Raanta, though he wasn't nearly as good in this one as he'd been in the prior victories. He surely would have preferred to deliver a more impressive outing, considering the 'Hawks are going to have to choose between Raanta and Scott Darling for backup duties when Corey Crawford's ready to return, which could be as soon as this weekend.

Blackhawks' Raanta To Start Second Straight

News: Antti Raanta will be in goal for Tuesday's game against the Wild, CSN's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will start his second straight game after giving up just one goal in a victory over the Flames on Sunday. He will square off against an uneven Minnesota squad that won its last time out, but has alternated wins and losses over its last 11 games.

Hawks' Raanta Strong In Win

News: Antti Raanta stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Making his first start in over a week, Antti Raanta picked up his third straight win and has allowed just five goals on 106 shots in that span. The 25-year-old has been solid in limited action, sporting a 4-2-0 record, but he'll likely be sent back down to AHL Rockford once starting goalie Corey Crawford returns from injury.

Hawks' Raanta To Start Sunday

News: Antti Raanta will start Sunday against the Flames, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta sat Saturday against the Islanders for the third straight game in favor of Scott Darling, but will finally take a spot back in net Sunday against the Flames. His last start came a week before Friday, when he made 38 stops on 41 shots against the Canadiens.
