Hawks' Raanta Thrives In Relief

News: Antti Raanta stopped 11 of 12 shots in relief of Corey Crawford in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Crawford was pulled with less than five minutes remaining in the first period after surrendering three goals on 13 shots. The Blackhawks were unable to dig themselves out of the three-goal deficit despite Antti Raanta's steady work in the net, but if nothing else, the team can take solace in that their backup goalie has looked highly capable this season. In his nine appearances, Raanta carries a 6-2-0 record, 1.73 GAA and .944 save percentage.

Hawks' Raanta Shuts Down Maple Leafs

News: Antti Raanta stopped all 31 of the shots he faced in Sunday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Well, that was simply a Antti Raantastic effort from the 25-year-old. Raanta has been very reliable this season, winning five straight games and allowing only eight goals in that span. With a crazy .945 save percentage and 1.76 GAA on the season, Rannta is a great fantasy option whenever starter Corey Crawford is given the night off.

Hawks' Raanta To Start Sunday Night

News: Antti Raanta will start for the Blackhawks against the Maple Leafs on Sunday night in a back-to-back scenario, the CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: With starting goalie Corey Crawford returning last night from a foot injury, it was expected that Antti Raanta would get the start. Raanta could continue to get one of the back-to-back scenario as the season goes along; but when Crawford was healthy, Hawks' head coach Joel Quenneville was going Crawford even in the back-to-back scenarios. Raanta has a 5-2 mark with a 2.01 goals against average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage this season.

Hawks' Raanta To Backup Crawford Saturday

News: Antti Raanta will back up Corey Crawford Saturday, but could get the call on Sunday night against the Maple Leafs, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: In previous seasons, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville had split back-to-back games between his two goalies. For most of 2014-15 he has stuck with Crawford for most if not all of these scenarios. Crawford, though, is just returning from a foot injury that kept him out for a few weeks so the team might go to Antti Raanta against Toronto on Sunday night. Raanta has a 5-2 mark with a 2.01 goals against average (GAA) and a .938 save percentage this season.

Hawks' Raanta Stays In NHL, Darling Sent Down

News: Antti Raanta will remain with the Blackhawks as the team sent down Scott Darling to Rockford of the AHL on Tuesday, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: The decision to keep Antti Raanta up with the big club and send Darling down to Rockford was a tough one. The move was made with the anticipation that starting goalie Corey Crawford will return this weekend after missing a few weeks because of an injury. While Crawford was out, Darling actually had more starts, but the move might have been to give more net time for Darling. Unless Crawford sustains another injury, Raanta will most likely only see an occasional start. He has played well in goal with a 5-2 record, a 2.01 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. Despite the return of Crawford, Raanta will probably start in a back-to-back scenario this weekend, Saturday against Columbus and Sunday against Toronto.

Raanta Gives Up Three, 'Hawks Still Win

News: Antti Raanta gave up three goals on 29 shots Tuesday, but held down the fort enough to end up with a 5-3 win over the Wild.
Analysis: That's four straight wins for Antti Raanta, though he wasn't nearly as good in this one as he'd been in the prior victories. He surely would have preferred to deliver a more impressive outing, considering the 'Hawks are going to have to choose between Raanta and Scott Darling for backup duties when Corey Crawford's ready to return, which could be as soon as this weekend.

Blackhawks' Raanta To Start Second Straight

News: Antti Raanta will be in goal for Tuesday's game against the Wild, CSN's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will start his second straight game after giving up just one goal in a victory over the Flames on Sunday. He will square off against an uneven Minnesota squad that won its last time out, but has alternated wins and losses over its last 11 games.

Hawks' Raanta Strong In Win

News: Antti Raanta stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Making his first start in over a week, Antti Raanta picked up his third straight win and has allowed just five goals on 106 shots in that span. The 25-year-old has been solid in limited action, sporting a 4-2-0 record, but he'll likely be sent back down to AHL Rockford once starting goalie Corey Crawford returns from injury.

Hawks' Raanta To Start Sunday

News: Antti Raanta will start Sunday against the Flames, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta sat Saturday against the Islanders for the third straight game in favor of Scott Darling, but will finally take a spot back in net Sunday against the Flames. His last start came a week before Friday, when he made 38 stops on 41 shots against the Canadiens.

Hawks' Raanta Takes The Seat Again Saturday

News: Antti Raanta will be on the bench again on Saturday, as the Blackhawks go with Scott Darling in goal against the Islanders, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will be on the bench for the third straight game. With starting goalie Corey Crawford expected to be back next week after suffering a foot injury, Raanta is looking to be the odd man out and is expected to be sent down to AHL Rockford. Still, there's a good chance Raanta will be called upon to start Sunday against Calgary for the second game of a back-to-back scenario. Raanta is 3-2-0 this season with a 2.02 GAA and a .942 save percentage.

Hawks' Raanta Takes A Seat Saturday Night

News: Antti Raanta will be on the bench Saturday against the Predators as the Blackhawks go with Scott Darling in goal, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: This is per usual for Hawks coach Joel Quenneville to go with the backup in a back-to-back situation, especially with two goalies with not as much experience as Corey Crawford, who is out with an injury. Antti Raanta has won two straight games, stopping 78 of 82 shots in that span. He is expected to get most of the starts for the next few weeks until Crawford returns from his injury.

'Hawks Raanta Makes 38 Saves In Win

News: Antti Raanta made 38 saves on 41 shots in Friday's win over the Canadians.
Analysis: Antti Raanta Claus is coming to town folks, and he's just in time for Christmas. With Corey Crawford (foot) out two to three weeks, Raanta has taken over starting duties and hasn't disappointed. The 25-year-old has won two straight games, stopping 78 of 82 shots in that span. He is worth a look right now with Crawford out, as the Blackhawks are red-hot and have won eight of their last nine games. The 'Hawks do play again Saturday, though, so expect Scott Darling to start the second half of the back-to-back.

Blackhawks' Raanta To Get Start Friday

News: Antti Raanta will be in the crease Friday against the Canadiens, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: The Blackhawks will begin a back-to-back set Friday, so look for Scott Darling to make the start Saturday against the Predators. For the time being, though, it appears Antti Raanta will be the Blackhawks' netminder of choice most nights until Corey Crawford returns. Raanta turned in a stupendous outing in place of Crawford on Wednesday night, stopping 40 of 41 shots to defeat the Blues.

Hawks' Raanta Stops 40 In Win

News: Antti Raanta allowed one goal on 41 shots in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Blues.
Analysis: Antti Raanta was excellent Wednesday, backstopping his team to a comfortable victory despite being outshot. With starter Corey Crawford (foot) on the shelf for a couple weeks, expect Raanta to split starts with Scott Darling between the pipes for the Hawks.

Blackhawks' Raanta To Start Wednesday

News: Antti Raanta will start Wednesday against the Blues.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will get the start in place of Corey Crawford, who will be sidelined with a lower-body injury. Raanta has given up just six goals on 90 shots this season, but may be a bit rusty, having not started a game since Oct. 25.

Blackhawks' Raanta Practices

News: Antti Raanta (illness) returned to practice Tuesday, Tracey Myers of CSNChicago.com reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta was a surprise scratch from Saturday night's start against the Oilers after coming down ill, but he seemed to be feeling better Monday after taking the last couple days off. He'll serve as the backup to Corey Crawford for Wednesday's game against the Avalanche, but it's uncertain when his next spot start might come around.

Hawks' Raanta Ill, Won't Start

News: In a last-minute change, the Blackhawks will start Corey Crawford on Saturday against the Oilers instead of expected starter Antti Raanta, who is ill, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will be in uniform as the backup, but it will be Crawford between the pipes for the Blackhawks in the first game of a back-to-back. If Raanta is healthy enough, he may go Sunday against Vancouver instead, though Chicago may want to stick with Crawford for that tough matchup.

Hawks' Raanta To Start Saturday

News: Antti Raanta will be in the crease Saturday against the Oilers, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: It looks like coach Joel Quenneville will save Corey Crawford for the tougher game of the Blackhawks' back-to-back Sunday versus Vancouver, so Antti Raanta will be in the net for his first outing since returning from AHL Rockford on Monday. The backup netminder has gone 1-2 in his previous three appearances, but his sterling .933 save percentage suggests he hasn't benefited from much offensive support.

Hawks' Recall Raanta From AHL

News: Antti Raanta was officially recalled from AHL Rockford on Monday, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta was sent down over the weekend just to get a few starts under his belt since he has played for the Blackhawks since Corey Crawford returned from injury. In the backup role this season, the 25-year-old goalie has compiled a 1-2-0 record in three games played while allowing 2.7 goals per game.

Blackhawks' Raanta To Rejoin Team Thursday

News: Antti Raanta is expected to rejoin the Blackhawks in advance of Thursday's game against the Flames, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: It appears Antti Raanta was assigned to AHL Rockford over the weekend strictly an attempt to pick up a couple of starts, as he hadn't been used since Corey Crawford returned from injury. Scott Darling was recalled to serve as Crawford's backup during Sunday's win over the Stars, but he'll head back to the minors later this week to make room for Raanta to rejoin the big club.

Blackhawks Assign Raanta To AHL

News: The Blackhawks assigned Antti Raanta to AHL Rockford on Saturday.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will be replaced as the backup goalie by Scott Darling, who was recalled from Rockford on Saturday. The two have posted nearly identical numbers at the NHL level this season, but the Blackhawks will roll with Darling as Corey Crawford's top backup for now.

Blackhawks' Raanta Sticking Around

News: Antti Raanta will remain with the Blackhawks after the team assigned Scott Darling to AHL Rockford on Friday, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta was prepared to log full-time duty in place of the injured Corey Crawford, who missed the Blackhawks' previous six games, but he ended up giving way to the high-performing Darling over the last three contests. Darling looks like he could be the more capable backup at this stage now that Crawford's healthy, but Raanta's more expensive NHL contract might have made the team unwilling to dispatch him to the minors. As a result, Raanta will remain with the Blackhawks until further notice, but he'll struggle to see the ice now that Crawford is healthy.

Arrow Pointing Down For Hawks' Raanta

News: Antti Raanta could be heading to Rockford of the AHL after the Blackhawks announced Thursday that Scott Darling will start against Ottawa, his third game in a row between the pipes, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Antti Raanta will be in the press box on Thursday, as Corey Crawford will be backing up Darling against the Senators. The Blackhawks can't keep three goalies around for long. so somebody is going to have to be shipped to Rockford soon. It could just be a move to showcase Darling for a possible trade or they just want to get a gauge on Darling, but either way, it doesn't seem like a good sign for Raanta.

Hawks' Raanta To Travel For 2-Game Road Trip

News: Antti Raanta, Scott Darling and Corey Crawford are all traveling with the team on its two-game road trip to Ottawa on Thursday and Toronto on Saturday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Darling has surprisingly started the last two games, leaving Antti Raanta on the bench even with Crawford still out with an upper-body injury. Raanta has looked pretty good in his own three starts (1-2, 2.03 GAA, .933 save percentage) this season, but management clearly likes what it sees in Darling. Both Darling and Raanta can be sent down to AHL Rockford without going through waivers. The Blackhawks are expected to name the starting goalie against Ottawa later Thursday.

Hawks' Raanta On Bench Tuesday Night

News: Antti Raanta being on the bench Tuesday night is not news, but the Blackhawks going with Scott Darling in goal is particular interesting with Corey Crawford still out with an upper-body injury, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Darling looked good against the Senators on Sunday, but it's a surprise that they are going with Darling against a team like the Ducks on Tuesday night. After practice on Tuesday, Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville would not say who would be going down to Rockford of the AHL, Antti Raanta or Darling, when Crawford return which is expected to be Thursday in Ottawa. Raanta has looked pretty good in the three starts (1-2, 2.03 goals against average and .933 save percentage) this season, nothing spectacularly, but not enough to lose his back-up gig. Raanta could still be sent down to Rockford without having to go through waivers.
