Goals Piling Up For Flyers' Raffl

News: With a marker in Saturday's loss to the Sharks, Michael Raffl has scored a goal in three straight games and four of his last five contests.
Analysis: Michael Raffl has certainly made the most of his opportunity to skate next to Jakub Voracek and Claude Giroux, and figures to be deployed on the top line for the remainder of the season. With 20 goals in his 61 games, Raffl has more than doubled his total (nine) in the category from 2013-14.

Flyers' Raffl Bags Goal In Win

News: Michael Raffl scored a shorthanded goal in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Michael Raffl has been on an impressive scoring streak, picking up points (including three goals) in his last five games. The 26-year-old has also suffered through cold spells throughout the season, so he's at just 22 points -- matching last season's total -- in 52 games.

Flyers' Raffl: Goal, Assist In Win

News: Michael Raffl scored his 14th goal of the season and added an assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Michael Raffl broke a six-game drought, one of many such pointless streaks he's endured this season. His inconsistency makes him a liability in all but the deepest leagues.

Flyers' Raffl Scores In First Game Back

News: Michael Raffl picked up the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: It was Michael Raffl's first game since Jan. 20 as he had been dealing with a bout of pneumonia. His scoring is up from last year, but with a shooting percentage of 16.8 much of that could be accounted for by good puck luck.

Flyers' Raffl Will Play Sunday

News: Michael Raffl (illness) will return to action Sunday against the Sabres, NHL.com's Adam Kimelman reports.
Analysis: Michael Raffl has been sidelined with pneumonia since Jan. 27, missing seven games over that span. He'll likely return to his role as a second-line winger for the Flyers. Raffl has tallied 15 points through 40 games with the Flyers this season.

Flyers' Raffl Skates With Team Thursday

News: Michael Raffl (illness) participated in Thursday's practice, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Analysis: Though he took part in line rushes with the Flyers during the session, Michael Raffl will not be a lineup option for Friday's game against the Blue Jackets, as the team wants to give him more time to recover from the bout with pneumonia. The Flyers initially projected Raffl to miss the entirety of their current four-game road swing, but if the winger continues to progress well in practices the next couple of days, he could be an option for the final game of the trip Sunday in Buffalo.

Flyers' Raffl Not Likely To Travel On Road Trip

News: Michael Raffl (pneumonia) is not likely to travel with the Flyers for their four-game trip beginning Sunday in Washington and ending Feb. 15 in Buffalo, Randy Miller of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: With Michael Raffl having yet to resume practicing as the Flyers prepare to depart for Washington, it's likely he'll remain in Philadelphia to further recover from his bout with pneumonia. Since Raffl hasn't played in over seven days, the Flyers could elect to move him to injured reserve to free up a roster spot for a healthy forward during the road trip.

Flyers' Raffl Dealing With Pneumonia

News: Michael Raffl has pneumonia in his left lung, and he will be kept off the ice for a few days.
Analysis: The team refers to it as a "small bout" of pneumonia, but any lung issue makes it difficult to play hockey. Michael Raffl has already missed three games, and he will likely miss at least one or two more contests.

Flyers' Raffl Not At Practice

News: Michael Raffl (illness) was not at Tuesday's practice, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Michael Raffl, who is dealing with an upper respiratory infection, was reportedly coughing and hacking after his last practice. He's seemingly in danger of missing a fourth straight game, but he'll have two more days to recover before Thursday's contest with the Islanders.

Flyers' Raffl Out For Saturday's Game

News: Michael Raffl (illness) will not play Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Tim Panaccio of CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: Michael Raffl will sit out a third straight game while he continues to fight an upper respiratory infection. He'll need to resume skating with the team before a lineup return will be considered.

Isles' Raffl (Illness) Misses Practice Friday

News: Michael Raffl (illness) did not practice Friday, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: After missing contests on Tuesday and Thursday, Michael Raffl is uncertain for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs. Given that he hasn't skated since at least Monday, Raffl appears no better than questionable.

Flyers' Raffl Still Dealing With Illness

News: Michael Raffl (illness) was not on the ice for Thursday's morning skate and is not expected to play later in the evening against the Jets, CSN's Tim Panaccio reports.
Analysis: Michael Raffl previously missed Tuesday's game due to his illness. A return shouldn't be considered forthcoming until he hits the ice to regain conditioning.

Flyers' Raffl Sidelined Tuesday

News: Michael Raffl (illness) is not slated to play Tuesday against the Coyotes, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: As a result, the Flyers recalled Petr Straka from Lehigh Valley to replace Michael Raffl in Tuesday's lineup.

Flyers' Raffl Affected By Illness

News: Michael Raffl is feeling under the weather as Tuesday's game against the Coyotes approaches, CSN Philadelphia reports.
Analysis: With Michael Raffl iffy for Tuesday's contest, the Flyers have recalled fellow forward Petr Straka from AHL Lehigh Valley.

Flyers' Raffl Gets Game-Winner

News: Michael Raffl nabbed the game-winning goal in Saturday's 4-3 triumph over the Sabres.
Analysis: The forward's 12th goal of the season puts him fourth on the team in that category, but doesn't necessarily put his value on the rise. In three consecutive games, Michael Raffl has seen his ice time fall below his 14:13 average TOI for the season, and he's still not receiving much usage on the Flyers' power play.

Flyers' Raffl Collects Two Points In Win

News: Michael Raffl bagged a goal and a helper in Saturday's 7-4 win over Toronto.
Analysis: He must have read our last post and adjusted his offense as a result. Still, he'll need more consistent production to become a regular fixture in fantasy formats. But if he happened to be in your lineup, two points are always nice. The question is, "Why is he in your lineup?"

Flyers' Raffl Not Finding Scoresheet Often

News: Michael Raffl has managed only two points -- both goals -- in 12 games since Nov. 1.
Analysis: The winger started the year with seven points in his first 10 games, and his production has dropped considerably since then. His shot percentage continues to hover above last year's average, so a continued decline isn't out of the question.

Flyers' Raffl Collects First Point Since Return

News: Michael Raffl scored the opening goal in Wednesday's 5-4 shootout loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: The winger is averaging about a half point per game this season. Still, at 17.9%, his shot percentage is hovering well above average, so that average may drop in the coming weeks.

Flyers' Raffl (Ankle) To Return Wednesday

News: Michael Raffl (ankle) will return to the starting lineup Wednesday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Michael Raffl will make his return to the lineup a bit earlier than expected, as he wasn't fully expected to return to action until this weekend. He skated in Wednesday's morning skate, however, and felt well enough during pregame warmups to give it a go. He'll likely return to his regular role at left wing on the Flyers' second line.

Flyers Activate Raffl

News: Michael Raffl (ankle) was activated from injured reserve Wednesday in advance of the Flyers' game against the Red Wings.
Analysis: The 25-year-old enjoyed a spot on the top line with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek prior to missing the past eight games with the injury, but it looks like Michael Raffl will settle in on the Flyers' second trio in his return Wednesday. Chris VandeVelde (lower body) was moved to IR to open up a roster spot for Raffl.

Flyers' Raffl Likely To Return Wednesday

News: Michael Raffl (ankle) was a full participant at the Flyers' morning skate and looks on tap to play Wednesday against the Red Wings, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Michael Raffl hadn't been expected to return to action until the weekend, but the Flyers evidently upgraded his status after he was able to practice Tuesday without any apparent issues. He hasn't been activated from IR yet and will officially enter Wednesday's contest as a game-time decision, but coach Craig Berube said that Raffl will play on a line with Scott Laughton and Wayne Simmonds barring a setback during pregame warmups. Raffl who has six goals in 12 games, has missed the Flyers' previous eight games with the ankle issue.

Flyers' Raffl An Option For Friday Or Saturday

News: Michael Raffl (ankle) may return to action as soon as Friday against the Rangers, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: The Flyers seemed to be targeting a Saturday return for Michael Raffl initially, but ended up making a slight adjustment after he practiced Tuesday for the first time since suffering the injury approximately three weeks ago. The young winger showed strong rapport with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek in the early going, so it seems likely coach Craig Berube would plug him back in on the top line once he's deemed healthy.

Flyers' Raffl Could Play Saturday

News: Michael Raffl (lower body) could play Saturday against the Rangers, Sam Carchidi of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Analysis: Michael Raffl is expected to skate with the team Tuesday, but won't be available for any of the team's next three games. The winger potted six goals and an assist in 12 games before getting hurt, but hasn't been in the lineup since Nov. 4.

Flyers Place Raffl On IR

News: Michael Raffl (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Analysis: Michael Raffl is expected to miss around four more weeks while recovering from the lower-body injury, so the move to IR will not affect his recovery timetable. It appears the transaction was made in order for the Flyers to activate Andrew MacDonald in advance of Thursday's loss to the Wild.

Flyers' Raffl (Lower Body) Out Six Weeks

News: Michael Raffl (lower body) has been ruled out for six weeks, Frank Seravalli of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Analysis: It's believed that Michael Raffl is dealing with a foot injury, which he likely sustained while blocking a shot during the third period Tuesday's victory over the Oilers. Raffl had solidified a spot on the Flyers' top line with a team-leading six goals before the injury, but it looks like Chris VandeVelde will receive the first shot at replacing the Austrian winger, after skating in his spot at Wednesday's practice. It's more likely, however, that Brayden Schenn, who started the season alongside Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek before being replaced by Raffl, will eventually reclaim the spot on the top line before long. Look for Raffl to make his return to the Flyers at some point in late December.
