Predators Sign Roy To One-Year Deal

News: Derek Roy signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Predators on Tuesday, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy spent last season with the Blues, scoring nine goals and 28 assists. He's bounced around the NHL of late, spending time with Buffalo, Dallas and Vancouver - in addition to St. Louis - since 2012. Still just 31 years old, Roy will hope to find a more permanent home with the Predators. "Derek brings us added depth, playmaking ability and experience at center, helping complement our young, developing wingers," GM David Poile said. "He has played in a number of roles, averaging about 19 minutes of ice time throughout his career, and is effective on the power play. He provides our coaching staff with some added skill and maturity down the middle when putting together our lineup for the coming season."

Blues' Roy Returns To Lineup

News: After serving as a healthy scratch in Game 3, Derek Roy returned to the lineup for Wednesday's Game 4 loss to the Blackhawks, logging 10:43 of ice time.
Analysis: Derek Roy was able to muster three shots on goal in the loss, but it appears he's no longer viewed as cornerstone player offensively for the Blues. His 10:43 of ice time was about three minutes less than he averaged during the regular season.

Blues' Roy (Undisclosed) Back On Sunday

News: Derek Roy (undisclosed) is back in the lineup for the Blues on Sunday.
Analysis: Derek Roy missed Friday's contest with an undisclosed injury so the fact that he is back on Sunday is good news for a team missing eight of its normal starters on Sunday and points to the fact that he should be fine for the playoffs.

Blues' Roy Out Friday

News: Derek Roy will not play Friday due to an unspecified injury, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The nature of Derek Roy's injury is uncertain, but he was able to play in Thursday's game against the Wild, so it likely happened sometime during that contest. It remains to be seen if the injury will cost Roy any further action beyond Friday's game.

Blues' Roy Demoted To Fourth Line

News: Derek Roy was bumped to the fourth line Tuesday against the Flyers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: In a move that does absolutely nothing for Derek Roy's already meager fantasy value, coach Ken Hitchcock broke up the "Dallas Three" third line of Brenden Morrow, Roy and Steve Ott, moving Roy to the fourth line with Maxim Lapierre and Ryan Eaves. Not surprisingly, Roy finished the contest with zero points in just 10:18 of ice time, and now has just a single assist in his last 15 games.

Blues' Roy Will Play Thursday

News: Derek Roy (lower body) will play Thursday against the Wild, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Coach Ken Hitchcock said Derek Roy would occupy a role as the third-line center alongside Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott. Roy missed the Blues' previous two contests with the injury, but has diminished those concerns by practicing the last few days.

Blues' Roy Questionable For Thursday

News: Derek Roy (lower body) could be back in the lineup Thursday against the Wild, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy had a positive workout during Wednesday's skate and it looks as though the lower-body injury isn't a long-term concern. He's missed the past two games with the injury, but with a positive showing at Thursday's morning skate, there's a good chance he'll draw back in for the Blues.

Blues' Roy Dealing With Injury

News: Derek Roy is, in fact, dealing with a lower-body injury after being scratched for Sunday's 1-0 shutout victory over the Penguins, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He will not play Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: After a promising start to his career -- he tallied 63, 81, 7 and 69 points in four consecutive seasons with the Sabres -- the 30-year-old has recorded just 42 points in his last 79 games, so any type of injury will only further send his fantasy stock tumbling. The former 32-goal scorer has found the back of the net just nine times with St. Louis this season, and has averaged a career-low 2:21 on the power play -- albeit as part of an explosive Blues offense bursting with firepower. If for some reason you've hung onto Derek Roy hoping for a turnaround, the combination of injury news and so few games remaining should be reason enough to cut him loose.

Blues' Roy Takes Seat Sunday

News: Derek Roy was not on the ice for warm-ups and is not in the lineup for Sunday against the Penguins, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: There aren't any reports of an injury so it could just be a day off. If he is hurt, the Blues will update his condition soon.

Roy Returns To Blues Mix

News: Derek Roy recorded an assist in 14:12 worth of ice time in Monday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: Derek Roy was a healthy scratch in Nashville this past Saturday, but he rejoined the Blues' lineup Monday, skating on a line with Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott, breaking his nine-game scoreless streak in the process.

Blues' Roy Sits Out Saturday's Game

News: Derek Roy was a healthy scratch Saturday against the Preds, the St Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy was scoreless in nine games since the Olympic break, but with some moving parts up front for the Blues, he could be back in the team's lineup Monday against the Jets.

Blues' Roy Registers Goal, Assist In Victory

News: Derek Roy had a goal and assist in the first period of Saturday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: The goal was Derek Roy's first in 25 games, dating all the way back to Dec. 12 against the Maple Leafs. Though finding twine has been hard to come by recently for Roy, he's managed to stay productive with assists in three of his previous four games.

St. Louis' Roy On Point Streak

News: The play making center has an assist in each of the last three games for the Blues.
Analysis: St. Louis is getting a nice return on their investment with Derek Roy. After signing him in the off-season the 12 year vet is on pace for his best season since 2009-10. He may only net about 12-15 goals but if you are seeking helpers he is on pace for 40-45.

Blues' Roy Will Play Sunday

News: Derek Roy (illness) will play Sunday against the Stars.
Analysis: It seems Derek Roy has kicked the flu bug that kept him out of Saturday's game, as he's set to slot back into the lineup against Dallas.

Blues' Roy Scratched For Saturday's Game

News: Derek Roy was scratched from the lineup Saturday vs. the Blackhawks, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: The Blues reported no indication that Derek Roy was dealing with an injury coming into Saturday's game, so his last-minute scratch comes as a surprise. It's possible he could be dealing with an illness, but the team should provide an update shortly.

Roy's Assists Help Blues Crush Oilers

News: Derek Roy collected a pair of assists and four penalty minutes Saturday in St. Louis' 6-0 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: In his past 16 games, stretching back to mid-November, he has 16 points (3G, 13A). If you drafted him based on his scoring pace in the past three seasons, you've reaped a nice dividend thus far.

Roy's Helpers Carry Blues Over Avs

News: Derek Roy pocketed two assists in Wednesday's 4-1 win at Colorado. After a lengthy drought, he's made the score sheet in four of his last five games.
Analysis: Playing for his fourth franchise in less than a year and a half, he finally seems comfortable in his role with the Blues. He's still behind the pace he set in his halcyon years with the Sabres, but he'll put up respectable point totals because of the talent of the skaters around him in St. Louis.

Breakout Game For Blues' Roy

News: Derek Roy snapped a five-game scoreless slump with a goal and two assists in Thursday's win over Colorado.
Analysis: He'd been struggling along this year, managing just a point every other game entering Thursday's action, but hopefully the big game will finally kickstart Derek Roy. He's not the scorer he once was, but he's still capable of more than his mediocre early returns.

Blues' Roy Battling Through Cold Spell

News: Derek Roy has just two points in his last nine games.
Analysis: After delivering six points in his first five games of the season, Derek Roy has fallen into a prolonged cold spell, with his ice time and shots on goal declining accordingly. Roy might still remain roster-worthy in deeper fantasy leagues, but it's growing increasingly tougher to justify trotting him out in the starting lineup while he isn't producing.

Roy Begins To Pay Dividends For Blues

News: Derek Roy scored a goal and added an assist Saturday as the Blues downed the Rangers, 5-3.
Analysis: The Blues took a chance signing Derek Roy in the offseason and his reunion with coach Ken Hitchcock has started with a bang. His goal and assist both came on the power play, which is a great sign for anyone who picked him up late in the draft. Snatch him up if he still happens to be on your waiver wire.

STL To Add Roy Pending Physical

News: Derek Roy agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with St. Louis on Saturday, St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Jeremy Rutherford reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy will sign the deal so long as he passes the team's physical. Roy's numbers have been a bit up-and-down over recent years, with a 22-point, 30-game showing in Dallas preceding a six-point, 12-game showing in Vancouver last year, and just 44 points in 80 games from 2011.

Roy Bags PPG In Canucks' Loss

News: Derek Roy opened the scoring Saturday with a power-play marker against Edmonton. The Oilers pulled away late to take a 7-2 win.
Analysis: In 12 games after being acquired from Dallas, Derek Roy logged a disappointing three goals and three assists. Fantasy owners who drafted him hoping that he'd return to his point-per-game days were frustrated this season.

Canucks' Roy Finds Net In Losing Effort

News: Derek Roy netted his sixth goal of the season in Thursday's loss to the Stars.
Analysis: His goal was the only offense Vancouver could muster Thursday night. Derek Roy only has four points through eight games since joining the Canucks, but three of those points have come in the past three games, which coincides with his promotion to second-line duty alongside Ryan Kesler. As long as he's skating with a talented player like Kesler, Roy has a chance to be a steady source of points.

Canucks' Roy Two Points In Top Six Role

News: Derek Roy picked up a goal and an assist in Monday's win over the Predators.
Analysis: Derek Roy played right wing on the second line, with Ryan Kesler and Jannik Hansen assuming the other two spots. Moving up from a less-talented third line should pay dividends for Roy down the stretch.
