Preds' Roy Scratched Monday

News: Derek Roy was a healthy scratch Monday versus the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The writing was certainly on the wall for Derek Roy, given that he was skating on the fourth line and seeing less than 10 minutes of ice time prior to his benching. Roy was expected to be an impact player for the Preds this season after signing as a free agent during the summer, however he has managed just 10 points in 26 games so far, and now can't even seem to find himself a spot in the lineup. As a result, his stock has fallen sharply and he should not be counted on for fantasy production right now.

Preds' Roy On Track To Return Thursday

News: Derek Roy (upper body) is set to return to the lineup Thursday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: After a five-game absence, Derek Roy stepped into center the fourth line at Wednesday's practice, and figures to slot in there on Thursday with Paul Gaustad (lower body) not expected to play. Roy's return will allow the Predators to avoid calling up an extra forward, as the only other options (Gaustad and Taylor Beck) are injured.

Preds' Roy Practices Wednesday

News: Derek Roy (upper body) participated in Wednesday's practice, Eric Stromgren of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy substituted in for Paul Gaustad (lower body) as the center of a line that included Eric Nystrom and Gabriel Bourque. It's a sign of progress for Roy, who has missed the Preds' previous five games, but it's unclear if he'll be a lineup option for Thursday's game in Arizona.

Preds' Roy To Miss Third Straight

News: Derek Roy (upper body) will not play Thursday against the Predators, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy will miss his third straight game with the upper-body injury, with no word on when he might rejoin the Nashville lineup. The veteran center has 10 points in 22 games this season.

Preds' Roy (Upper Body) Out Of Lineup Tuesday

News: Derek Roy (upper body) is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, and remains day-to-day, Eric Stromgren of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: At this point, there is no exact word on the severity of the injury, nor is there an expected timeline for Derek Roy's return. Keep him on your fantasy bench until further details are known.

Preds' Roy Out With Upper-Body Injury

News: Derek Roy missed Saturday's game with an upper-body injury, but practiced with the team Monday, Eric Stromgren of the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: We expect an update on Derek Roy's availability for Tuesday's matchup with the Hurricanes prior to game time. Roy has a goal and nine assists in 22 games for the Preds so far this season.

Roy Scores First Of Year For Preds

News: Derek Roy broke through with his first goal of the season in the first period of Tuesday's 9-2 manhandling of the Leafs.
Analysis: The tally snapped a four-game point drought for Derek Roy, who now owns a modest eight points in 18 games of the year -- a number fairly representative of his skills at this point in his career. Those 60-plus-point days are long gone and not coming back.

Preds' Roy Dishes Two In Win

News: Derek Roy handed out two assists in Thursday's victory over the Stars.
Analysis: While Derek Roy's dished out a modestly respectable seven helpers in 13 games, he's failed to score a goal this year. However, he did put a season-high five shots on goal Thursday, suggesting that he might be on the verge of breaking through.

Preds' Roy Chips In For Win Over Coyotes

News: Derek Roy tallied an assist during Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over the Coyotes, giving him four points in six games to start the season.
Analysis: Derek Roy has been a steady source of offense for the new-look Preds this season, skating primarily on the team's second line alongside Colin Wilson and Craig Smith. Going forward, Roy should continue to see plenty of opportunities to add to his totals, both at even strength and on the power play.

Preds' Roy Enjoying New Linemates In Camp

News: Derek Roy has been skating with Craig Smith and Colin Wilson so far in training camp, the Tennessean reports. "They're both good players with the puck and real smart," Roy said of his new linemates. "Smitty's an offensive dynamic with a great shot. Colin is a great passer and has great vision around the ice. I'm looking forward to playing with those guys and seeing where it goes."
Analysis: With Mike Fisher out until at least late November with a ruptured Achilles, new coach Peter Laviolette has to decide who will be centering his top two scoring lines. At this stage, Derek Roy appears to be right in the mix, while Mike Ribeiro and Olli Jokinen - the Preds' two other free agent acquisitions earlier this summer - will also get a look. A second line of Wilson-Roy-Smith seems like a pretty decent second line possiblity, assuming the trio shows some chemistry together. However, it's still just the first week of camp, and there's sure to be a lot more line juggling to come, so don't assume anything is written in stone just yet.

Predators Sign Roy To One-Year Deal

News: Derek Roy signed a one-year, $1 million contract with Predators on Tuesday, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy spent last season with the Blues, scoring nine goals and 28 assists. He's bounced around the NHL of late, spending time with Buffalo, Dallas and Vancouver - in addition to St. Louis - since 2012. Still just 31 years old, Roy will hope to find a more permanent home with the Predators. "Derek brings us added depth, playmaking ability and experience at center, helping complement our young, developing wingers," GM David Poile said. "He has played in a number of roles, averaging about 19 minutes of ice time throughout his career, and is effective on the power play. He provides our coaching staff with some added skill and maturity down the middle when putting together our lineup for the coming season."

Blues' Roy Returns To Lineup

News: After serving as a healthy scratch in Game 3, Derek Roy returned to the lineup for Wednesday's Game 4 loss to the Blackhawks, logging 10:43 of ice time.
Analysis: Derek Roy was able to muster three shots on goal in the loss, but it appears he's no longer viewed as cornerstone player offensively for the Blues. His 10:43 of ice time was about three minutes less than he averaged during the regular season.

Blues' Roy (Undisclosed) Back On Sunday

News: Derek Roy (undisclosed) is back in the lineup for the Blues on Sunday.
Analysis: Derek Roy missed Friday's contest with an undisclosed injury so the fact that he is back on Sunday is good news for a team missing eight of its normal starters on Sunday and points to the fact that he should be fine for the playoffs.

Blues' Roy Out Friday

News: Derek Roy will not play Friday due to an unspecified injury, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The nature of Derek Roy's injury is uncertain, but he was able to play in Thursday's game against the Wild, so it likely happened sometime during that contest. It remains to be seen if the injury will cost Roy any further action beyond Friday's game.

Blues' Roy Demoted To Fourth Line

News: Derek Roy was bumped to the fourth line Tuesday against the Flyers, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: In a move that does absolutely nothing for Derek Roy's already meager fantasy value, coach Ken Hitchcock broke up the "Dallas Three" third line of Brenden Morrow, Roy and Steve Ott, moving Roy to the fourth line with Maxim Lapierre and Ryan Eaves. Not surprisingly, Roy finished the contest with zero points in just 10:18 of ice time, and now has just a single assist in his last 15 games.

Blues' Roy Will Play Thursday

News: Derek Roy (lower body) will play Thursday against the Wild, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Coach Ken Hitchcock said Derek Roy would occupy a role as the third-line center alongside Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott. Roy missed the Blues' previous two contests with the injury, but has diminished those concerns by practicing the last few days.

Blues' Roy Questionable For Thursday

News: Derek Roy (lower body) could be back in the lineup Thursday against the Wild, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy had a positive workout during Wednesday's skate and it looks as though the lower-body injury isn't a long-term concern. He's missed the past two games with the injury, but with a positive showing at Thursday's morning skate, there's a good chance he'll draw back in for the Blues.

Blues' Roy Dealing With Injury

News: Derek Roy is, in fact, dealing with a lower-body injury after being scratched for Sunday's 1-0 shutout victory over the Penguins, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. He will not play Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: After a promising start to his career -- he tallied 63, 81, 7 and 69 points in four consecutive seasons with the Sabres -- the 30-year-old has recorded just 42 points in his last 79 games, so any type of injury will only further send his fantasy stock tumbling. The former 32-goal scorer has found the back of the net just nine times with St. Louis this season, and has averaged a career-low 2:21 on the power play -- albeit as part of an explosive Blues offense bursting with firepower. If for some reason you've hung onto Derek Roy hoping for a turnaround, the combination of injury news and so few games remaining should be reason enough to cut him loose.

Blues' Roy Takes Seat Sunday

News: Derek Roy was not on the ice for warm-ups and is not in the lineup for Sunday against the Penguins, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: There aren't any reports of an injury so it could just be a day off. If he is hurt, the Blues will update his condition soon.

Roy Returns To Blues Mix

News: Derek Roy recorded an assist in 14:12 worth of ice time in Monday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: Derek Roy was a healthy scratch in Nashville this past Saturday, but he rejoined the Blues' lineup Monday, skating on a line with Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott, breaking his nine-game scoreless streak in the process.

Blues' Roy Sits Out Saturday's Game

News: Derek Roy was a healthy scratch Saturday against the Preds, the St Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Derek Roy was scoreless in nine games since the Olympic break, but with some moving parts up front for the Blues, he could be back in the team's lineup Monday against the Jets.

Blues' Roy Registers Goal, Assist In Victory

News: Derek Roy had a goal and assist in the first period of Saturday's win over the Jets.
Analysis: The goal was Derek Roy's first in 25 games, dating all the way back to Dec. 12 against the Maple Leafs. Though finding twine has been hard to come by recently for Roy, he's managed to stay productive with assists in three of his previous four games.

St. Louis' Roy On Point Streak

News: The play making center has an assist in each of the last three games for the Blues.
Analysis: St. Louis is getting a nice return on their investment with Derek Roy. After signing him in the off-season the 12 year vet is on pace for his best season since 2009-10. He may only net about 12-15 goals but if you are seeking helpers he is on pace for 40-45.

Blues' Roy: Flu-Like Symptoms

News: Derek Roy missed Saturday's game due to flu-like symptoms, reports the Associated Press.
