Bacashihua or Grahame Up for the Avs

News: Either Bacashihua or John Grahame will get the call for the Avs to replace the injured Craig Anderson for Thursday's game in Calgary, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Anderson went back to Denver to have his knee examined instead of moving on to Calgary with the team Tuesday night. Peter Budaj will get the starting nod while Anderson is out most nights.

Avs' Bacashihua Sent To AHL

News: Bacashihua was reassigned to AHL Lake Erie on Sunday, reports the Denver Post.
Analysis: No surprise here, as Peter Budaj is once again expected to play backup to Avs' starter Craig Anderson this season. Bacashihua has spent several years trying to crack an NHL roster, but never seems to be able to take his game to the next level. He possesses zero fantasy value at this point in time.

Avs send five to AHL

News: The Denver Post reports that the Avalanche have sent the following players to Lake Erie of the AHL: G Jason Bacashihua, D Darcy Campbell, D Aaron MacKenzie, C Matt Hendricks and C Nathan Smith.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value, so continue to ignore them in all formats.

Bacashihua agrees to deal with Avs

News: The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Cody McLeod to a one-year contract and reached deals with six others Monday. Colorado also agreed to terms with forwards Philippe Dupuis and Nathan Smith, defensemen Darcy Campbell and Aaron MacKenzie, and goaltenders Jason Bacashihua and Tyler Weiman.
Analysis: Bacashihua last played in the NHL in 2006-07 with the Blues. He was 3-7-3 with a 3.15 GAA amd .896 save percentage. He used to be a backup to Manny Legace, but now is nothing more than organizational depth in Colorado. Ignore Bacashihua in Fantasy formats.

Bacashihua ends up in Colorado

News: The depth in the Blues' goaltending system has taken a deep hit in the last week. G Juuso Riksman returned to Peoria (the Blues' AHL affiliate) after a one-month loan to a Swedish team. When Riksman came back, the Blues traded goalie Jason Bacashihua to the Avalanche earlier in the month. Well, now Riksman has decided that he's returning to Europe.
Analysis: That leaves Marek Schwarz as the Blues' only legitimate candidate to play in St. Louis if an injury occurs to either Manny Legace or Hannu Toivonen. Schwarz is the best of the lot, so watch him in keeper leagues if one or both of the Blues' goalies go down. Bacashihua and Riksman can be ignored in most formats for now.

G Bacashihua sent to minors

News: Jason Bacashihua was assigned to Peoria of the AHL on Wednesday, as he failed to beat out Manny Legace or Hannu Toivonen for one of the two goaltender jobs in St. Louis.
Analysis: Bacashihua might be back at some point if injuries open up a spot, but avoid him in all Fantasy leagues for now.

Bacashihua to stick around

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Manny Legace (knee) will not be back this season, as he continues to rehab his left knee after arthroscopic surgery on Feb. 27. "It's more about getting prepared for next year now," Legace said.
Analysis: With Legace staying on the shelf, the Blues will depend on Curtis Sanford and Jason Bacashihua for Fantasy Week 27 (April 2-8). Bacashihua remains useful only in the largest of Fantasy leagues which average points per game in a scoring period.

Bacashihua wins vs. Edmonton

News: Jason Bacashihua allowed just two goals on 18 shots in Thursday's game against the Oilers, as the Blues picked up another win.
Analysis: The Oilers have scored more than two goals just twice since March 7, a span covering 12 games. The solid performance might have bought Bacashihua another start on Saturday against Anaheim, although that might be a much taller order.

Bacashihua relieves Sanford

News: Blues goalie Curtis Sanford, returning after missing two games with a lower body injury, was yanked after allowing three goals on 12 shots in Tuesday's game against Columbus. "When your team is struggling that's when you need your goalie to step up, and I wanted him to step up more than he stepped up," coach Andy Murray said. "I took a few other guys out of the game if you were watching." Jason Bacashihua finished up, stopping 12 of 13 shots.
Analysis: It wouldn't be surprising to see Bacashihua get the nod for Thursday's game against the Oilers. He is only worth a look in the largest of Fantasy leagues which average points per game in a scoring period at this point.

Bacashihua gets first win of season

News: Blues G Jason Bacashihua made 40 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings Saturday. It was his third start in March and his first win all season.
Analysis: Bacashihua has made only seven starts this season. Needless to say, he has very limited Fantasy value and should only be used in leagues that use averages in a scoring system.

Bacashihua starts on Monday

News: Bacashihua made his first start since Dec. 13 for St. Louis and made some sensational saves in finishing Monday's shootout loss at Calgary with 30 saves.
Analysis: Dating to last season, Bacashihua has gone 15 games -- 10 starts -- since his last victory on April 9, 2006. He is 0-8-3 in that span.

Blues forced to use two goalies

News: Blues G Curtis Sanford was chased from Saturday's game against the Canadiens after giving up three goals on 10 shots. He was replaced by Jason Bacashihua, who allowed just one goal on 12 shots in a 4-1 loss.
Analysis: Bacashihua could have earned himself a start after his fine relief performance Saturday. Still, he should only be used in league that have average scoring systems. Sanford on the other hand remains a low-end Fantasy option in most leagues.

Bacashihua recalled, plays

News: According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Manny Legace tweaked his groin in practice on Saturday and he did not travel to Chicago for Sunday's game against the Blackhawks. Jason Bacashihua was recalled from Peoria of the AHL to serve as the backup to Curtis Sanford, but he got action. Sanford was pounded for four goals on 11 shots through two periods and Bacashihua ended up stopping all five shots he faced in the third.
Analysis: Bacashihua would likely see a slight increase in Fantasy value if Legace's injury is of the long-term variety, but he is still nothing more than a low-end No. 2 or solid No. 3 Fantasy goaltender in leagues which average points per game in a scoring period.

Bacashihua headed to AHL

News: Curtis Sanford (groin) will head to Peoria of the AHL to begin a conditioning assignment. The St. Louis Blues also have assigned Jason Bacashihua to Peoria of the AHL and recalled Marek Schwarz.
Analysis: Schwarz will serve as the backup to the red hot Manny Legace, perhaps until late January when Sanford is expected to return to health. None of these goaltenders are worth using while Legace is rolling along.

Blues use two goalies Wednesday

News: Jason Bacashihua made 41 saves and Marek Schwarz had one stop when he played briefly in the second period in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Avalanche. Schwarz came in at 15:10 after Milan Hejduk's goal and Bacashihua returned 2:17 later.
Analysis: Neither Bacashihua or Schwarz should be used in Fantasy leagues at this time.

News: Jason Bacashihua allowed four goals on 25 shots in Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets.

Bacashihua loses to Wings

News: Jason Bacashihua allowed four goals on 43 shots in Thursday's game at Detroit, losing in overtime.
Analysis: Bacashihua might get another start in the near future after the impressive performance, but he is not a recommended Fantasy starter in most leagues.

Bacashihua appears in relief

News: Manny Legace allowed three goals on 12 shots and he was pulled in Tuesday's game against the Red Wings in favor of Jason Bacashihua. The backup came on and allowed two goals on 20 shots.
Analysis: Bacashihua will likely be rewarded with the start on Thursday at Detroit. Set your lineups accordingly in all daily Fantasy leagues.

Bacashihua plays again Friday

News: Jason Bacashihua started on Friday for the Blues against the Canucks stopping 40 shots in a 4-2 loss.
Analysis: Bacashihua has been playing well while in net, but should not be owned in any Fantasy leagues as he probably won't get much playing time in the near future.

Bacashihua appears on Thursday

News: Manny Legace allowed four goals on 15 shots in Thursday's game at Edmonton before being pulled early in the second period in place of Jason Bacashihua. The recent recall from Peoria of the AHL finished up with two goals on 13 shots.
Analysis: Legace will look to rebound in Friday's game at Vancouver, but coach Mike Kitchen might reward Bacashihua with a start instead. Curtis Sanford is out for the game due to a strained groin.

G Bacashihua to get his shot

News: According to published reports, general manager Larry Pleau said it is the competition for the starting goaltender job is "wide open" and Jason Bacashihua, Manny Legace and Curtis Sanford will all head to training camp with an equal opportunity to win the job.
Analysis: Bacashihua is still considered the No. 3 goaltender in terms of our Fantasy depth chart right now, as Legace is expected to be the starter. Avoid him on Draft Day, but monitor his progress during the preseason.

Bacashihua to start in minors?

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Jason Bacashihua accepted the team's qualifying offer during the offseason and he will likely start the season with Peoria of the AHL.
Analysis: The team signed Manny Legace on Tuesday and they have Curtis Sanford playing out his final contract season. Barring a trade of Sanford before the season begins, Bacashihua will have no Fantasy appeal playing for Peoria.
