Senators Sign Johnson

News: The Senators have signed Aaron Johnson to a one-year, two-way contract.
Analysis: Aaron Johnson spent the 2013-14 season with the Rangers' AHL affiliate in Hartford, notching 40 points in 75 games. The 31-year-old, who last saw NHL action with the Bruins in 2012-13, gives the Sens' organization a reliable veteran depth option in case of injuries to their defensive ranks.

News: Aaron Johnson was assigned to AHL Hartford on Wednesday.

Rangers Sign Johnson

News: Aaron Johnson inked a one-year deal with the Rangers on Friday, reports the New York Rangers.
Analysis: The former third-round (2001) pick of the Columbus Jackets will don the seventh NHL jersey of his career. Aaron Johnson, who set a career high in points (16) during his second stint with Columbus in 2011-12, had 10 penalty minutes, five blocks and 18 hits in just 10 games with the Bruins last season.

Bruins’ Johnson Likely In Lineup Thursday

News: Aaron Johnson is in line to join the Bruins' lineup going forward due to Adam McQuaid's shoulder injury.
Analysis: Aaron Johnson, who has played in five games this season, gives the Bruins an experienced blue line option to turn to for the time being, with McQuaid out 3-4 weeks. There's not much fantasy upside to be had here though and it's possible that the Bruins will call up another blueliner or trade for one in the coming days.

Bruins Recall Johnson

News: Aaron Johnson has completed his conditioning stint with AHL Providence and has be recalled by the Bruins, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: He'll replace David Warsofsky as the Bruins' No. 7 blueliner, an assignment that figures to result in Aaron Johnson being a healthy scratch as long as the team's top six defenders remain healthy.

Bruins' Johnson Heads To Providence

News: Aaron Johnson will join AHL Providence on a conditioning loan, the Bruins' official site reports.

Johnson Signs With Bruins

News: Aaron Johnson has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Bruins, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Aaron Johnson played in 56 games last season with the Blue Jackets, recording career highs in assists, with 13, and points, with 16. The 29-year-old defenseman has played in 281 career NHL games, totaling 62 points and 217 penalty minutes. He projects as a depth blueliner for the B's, one of a handful of players who will jostle for the team's No. 6 and No. 7 defense slots.

Blue Jackets' Johnson Back In Action

News: Aaron Johnson (upper body/lower body) notched a shot on goal and recorded two blocked shots in 7:32 worth of ice time in Saturday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Aaron Johnson hadn't played since Feb. 19, but with just 13 points and a minus-4 rating in 39 games thus far, he's only worthy of consideration in deeper leagues.

Columbus' Johnson Out Tuesday

News: Aaron Johnson (upper body/lower body) will not play against San Jose on Tuesday, Columbus Dispatch writer Aaron Portzline reports.
Analysis: The team specifically said that his midsection is unaffected. It's not clear how Aaron Johnson managed to snag injuries on opposite ends of his body, nor whether he's any worse than day-to-day at the moment.

Jackets' Johnson Stretches Assist Streak To Three Games

News: Aaron Johnson picked up an assist for the third straight game Friday.
Analysis: Before you get too excited, keep in mind that this is the longest scoring streak of Aaron Johnson's career. He remains a depth defenseman on a bad club, and he'll have to prove a lot more than this to be worthy of fantasy consideration.

Johnson Remains Depth Defenseman For Blue Jackets

News: Despite various injuries to other members of the Blue Jackets blue line, Aaron Johnson has been a frequent scratch this season and in just 19 games has two goals and seven points with a minus-2 rating.
Analysis: Rookies John Moore and now David Savard have both gotten play ahead of the veteran Aaron Johnson, and with the Jackets' season already a lost cause that isn't likely to change any time soon.

Two-Point Night For Blue Jackets' Johnson

News: Aaron Johnson scored a power-play goal and added an assist in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Injuries keep piling up on the Jackets' blue line so even with James Wisniewski set to return from his suspension next week Aaron Johnson's spot in the lineup should remain secure. Despite Friday's outburst he's not an offensive threat though, especially with Wisniewski taking over a power play spot.

Johnson Finds Scoresheet For Blue Jackets

News: Aaron Johnson picked up an assist in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Wild.
Analysis: He didn't look out of place after being a healthy scratch for the opener on Friday. Right now there's a three-way battle for two blue line spots between Aaron Johnson, Kris Russell and rookie David Savard, but once James Wisniewski is back from his suspension in six games one of those three will head down to the AHL and one will start seeing a lot of time in the press box. Every positive impression Johnson can make between now and then gets him one step closer to staying in the NHL.

Johnson Will Begin Season As Blue Jackets' Seventh Defenseman

News: Aaron Johnson will open the season on the NHL roster as the Jackets' seventh defenseman.
Analysis: It won't provide any fantasy value but his spot is safe for at least eight games, after which James Wisniewski will return from his suspension and the club may have to decide whether to keep Aaron Johnson or David Savard on the roster.

Preds' Johnson Sent to Minors

News: Johnson was reassigned to AHL Milwaukee on Tuesday, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: "He played very, very well," coach Barry Trotz said. "Most players ask for the opportunity to make an impression. He made an impression. He made us make a hard decision. I am sure we will see Aaron back at some point here."

Johnson Inks Deal with Preds

News: Johnson signed a one-year, two-way contract with Nashville on Tuesday, The Tennessean reports. The deal is worth $550,00 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the AHL level.
Analysis: Johnson played 41 games between Calgary and Edmonton last season, recording four goals and six assists. With only 46 points in 225 career games, he's not much of a scorer, but he does have a plus-13 career rating despite playing on some lackluster teams.

Trade a good thing for Johnson

News: Oilers D Aaron Johnson scored a goal and tallied an assist on Monday against the Blue Jackets. The Oilers cut it to 4-3 when Johnson pounced on a rebound at 7:45 of the third. He has two goals and two assists in his last four games.
Analysis: Even though he went from a contender to a pretender, Johnson has benefited personally from a trade to Edmonton. He was basically a rotational blueliner with the Flames. In Edmonton, he is playing every night and even getting power-play minutes. Johnson might be a sleeper Fantasy option down the stretch just for the fact Edmonton has nothing to lose by playing him.

Staios shipped to Flames for Johnson, pick

News: The Oilers have traded D Steve Staios to the Flames for D Aaron Johnson and a third-round pick.
Analysis: A 14-year NHL veteran, Staios has just seven points and a minus-14 in 40 games this season. He will continue to have little to no Fantasy value. Johnson has played just twice in 2010 as a consistent healthy scratch. He is also not worth worrying about.

Johnson getting used to press box

News: The Sports Xchange reports Flames D Aaron Johnson watched from the press box for a sixth consecutive contest on Tuesday against the Senators and has played just once since Jan. 11.
Analysis: Johnson has no points in his last nine games, so he isn't giving the coaching staff many reasons to play him. He left Chicago in hopes Calgary would provide a chance for more playing time. Unfortunately, Johnson still finds himself as a rotational blueliner. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

Johnson has rare appearance in Jan.

News: The Sports Xchange reports Flames D Aaron Johnson played for the first time in 12 games on Wednesday against the Stars, having been a healthy scratch since the Jan. 2 game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He had no points in 11:24 of ice time and finished at minus-1.
Analysis: Johnson has produced one goal and three points in 22 games. He left Chicago in hopes Calgary would provide a chance for more playing time. Unfortunately, Johnson still finds himself as a rotational blueliner. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

Johnson makes Flames debut

News: D Aaron Johnson made his Flames debut during Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets. Acquired in an Oct. 7 trade with Chicago, it was Johnson's first game since April 12. Johnson was a healthy scratch for all 17 of Chicago's playoff games last season. He had no points in 17:58 of ice time.
Analysis: Johnson has proven through the years that he can be a factor on the blue line when given a chance. However, no one has yet to give him full-time work in the NHL. Until Johnson becomes a regular, he doesn't have much Fantasy appeal.

Flames trade Greentree to Blackhawks

News: The Flames acquired D Aaron Johnson from the Blackhawks in exchange for LW Kyle Greentree on Wednesday.
Analysis: Greentree was almost a point-per-game guy in the AHL last season with 76 points in 79 contests, but the 25-year-old has only played in four NHL games. Along with Johnson, who played 38 games for Chicago last season, Greentree has no Fantasy value at this time.

Johnson sticking around Chicago

News: The Blackhawks came to terms with five free agents Monday. They gave forward Troy Brouwer and goalie Corey Crawford two-year deals, while forward Ben Eager, forward Colin Fraser and defenseman Aaron Johnson all got one-year contracts. "I am happy to have these five players back with us. They are quality individuals who played an important role with us last season and their talents are a big part of our goals for next season," GM Dave Tallon said.
Analysis: The 26-year-old Johnson totaled three goals, eight points and a career-high plus-19 rating in 38 games for the Blackhawks in 2008-09. He was fairly productive when he was on the ice, but since Chicago was so loaded on the blue line Johnson was often a healthy scratch. Until he gets full-time work again, Johnson has minimal Fantasy appeal.
