Coyotes Stick With Smith On Monday

News: Mike Smith is slated to start Monday's home game against the Sabres.
Analysis: Mike Smith, who has allowed 10 goals over his last three games, has picked up two wins in that span, including a 4-3 overtime victory this past Thursday against the Sabres in Buffalo.

Yotes' Smith Makes 43 Saves In Loss

News: Mike Smith made 43 saves in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: The loss certainly wasn't his -- he only allowed one even-strength goal against a high-powered offence. Still, his season is all but forgettable; you just can't win on the ice or in fantasy with a stat line like his (13-37-5, 3.16, .902 heading into Saturday).

Coyotes Turn To Smith In Net Saturday

News: Mike Smith will make his fifth consecutive start in net Saturday against the Penguins, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has been faced with a barrage of shots recently, averaging 35 saves over the span. He's won each of the last two contests, and he'll look to make it a third Saturday. However, Smith will need to be up to the task, as he will take on a Penguins offense averaging 2.72 goals per game.

Consecutive Wins For Coyotes' Smith

News: Mike Smith stopped 32 of 35 and ended up with a 4-3 overtime victory Thursday against the Sabres.
Analysis: Whoa, consecutive wins (both in overtime)! This is only the second time all season that Mike Smith has managed to win two starts in a row, and the last time was in early November. So it's been a struggle, but hey, this is a positive to build on.

Coyotes' Smith Set To Play Thursday

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Sabres, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has been playing his best hockey of the season thus far in March (2.33 GAA, .936 save percentage), but his offense didn't show up for him until Tuesday night against the Red Wings, with the goalie finally scoring a 5-4 overtime win. It was just the second victory for Smith in his last 17 outings, but he'll have a great shot at getting wins in back-to-back outings for the first time since November when he takes the net Thursday. The Sabres are the only team in the league with a worse record than the Coyotes, and rank last in scoring with just 1.78 goals per game.

Smith, Coyotes Beat Wings In OT

News: Mike Smith gave up four goals on 37 shots, but came away with a 5-4 overtime win against the Red Wings on Tuesday.
Analysis: Well, that was unexpected. The Coyotes (along with the Oilers and Sabres) are the league's doormat, while the Wings are in strong playoff position, but Mike Smith got some nice offensive support (or a bad game from Jimmy Howard on the other end -- you be the judge) and made some quality saves to deliver his first win since March 5, snapping a six-game losing skid. Curiously, he'd been much better over most of that losing streak than he was Tuesday.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Tuesday

News: Mike Smith is in line to start Tuesday's game against the Red Wings, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Though Mike Smith sports a 2.13 GAA and a .941 save percentage in March, he remains a risky roll while playing behind the Coyotes, who are 0-7-1 over their last eight games.

Coyotes' Smith Stops 41 Shots In Loss

News: Mike Smith stopped 41 of 43 shots in Sunday's loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: Another terrific outing from Mike Smith, who hasn't got much goal support of late. While he's stopped 109 of the last 114 shots he's faced (.956 save percentage), he's somehow still lost 15 of his last 16 games, dropping his record 11-37-5 on the season. Smith's .902 save percentage is on the rise, but with the team in front of him, don't expect a big increase in wins anytime soon.

Coyotes' Smith Makes 34 Saves In Loss

News: Mike Smith made 34 saves on 36 shots in Saturday's loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Another great game from Mike Smith, who has stopped 68 of the last 71 shots he's faced. Unfortunately, he's not getting much support and has now lost 14 of his last 15 games, dropping his record to 11-36-5 on the season. While his rate stats are trending upwards, Smith has a league-high 36 losses and is the starter on a team that just can't seem to win.

Coyotes' Smith Starting In Net Sunday

News: Mike Smith will start between the pipes Sunday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Mike Smith posted good outings in net each of his last two starts, but came up empty in the win column against the Kings and Penguins despite allowing two or less goals in each. He will start in the crease Sunday, looking to break a string of losses.

Coyotes' Smith Will Start Saturday

News: Mike Smith will start in net against the Penguins on Saturday, Sarah McLellan of The Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith will enter Saturday looking for just his 12th win on the season. Not surprisingly, his save percentage currently sits at .900 which is accompanied by a 3.20 GAA.

Coyotes Likely To Go With Smith On Saturday

News: Mike Smith is likely to receive the start for Saturday's game against the Penguins.
Analysis: Mike Smith gave way to rookie Louis Domingue in the Coyotes' last game Thursday against the Avalanche, which resulted in a 5-2 loss. With a four-game losing streak and losses in 13 of his past 14 starts, Smith simply can't be counted on to deliver promising results Saturday, despite the ratio improvement he's shown in defeat the last few times out.

Coyotes' Smith Sharp In Loss

News: Mike Smith stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced Monday, but took a tough luck 1-0 loss at the hands of the Kings.
Analysis: Although Mike Smith has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his last five starts, this was his fourth loss in a row and his 13th loss in his last 14 starts. With the Coyotes looking toward the future there will be a lot of tough nights for the veteran goalie and his fantasy value is as low as it has ever been since he arrived in Arizona.

Coyotes Turn To Smith On Monday

News: Mike Smith is on track to start Monday's game against the Kings, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has dropped three straight starts, which has dropped his record to 11-34-5, to go along with a 3.24 GAA and .898 save percentage for the low-scoring Coyotes.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Monday

News: Mike Smith will start Monday's game against the Kings.
Analysis: Mike Smith, who has lost his last three turns, remains a risky roll while working behind the low-scoring Coyotes' attack. The team has managed just three goals over its last four contests.

Coyotes' Smith Suffers Third Straight Loss

News: Mike Smith suffered his third straight loss Saturday against the Devils, allowing four goals on 29 shots.
Analysis: With the defeat, Mike Smith now has 34 losses this season -- the most in the NHL. While Smith had been playing well of late, the Coyotes don't score much, so Smith has managed just one win in his last 13 games. His .898 save percentage appears to be on the upswing, but if you're looking for wins, Smith isn't your man.

Coyotes' Smith Will Start Saturday

News: Mike Smith will start between the pipes in Saturday's game against the Devils, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith will be looking for just his 12th win on the season during Saturday's game. He'll take the ice with a .899 save percentage and a 3.23 GAA.

Coyotes' Smith Stops 42, But Takes Another Loss

News: Mike Smith was excellent Thursday, stopping 42 of 44 shots against Chicago, but ended up with a hard-luck loss.
Analysis: Meanwhile, Corey Crawford faced only 18 shots on the other end, so the Coyotes clearly didn't hold up their end of the bargain. Mike Smith has now dropped 11 of his last 12 starts, although he's been terrific over the last three.

Coyotes' Smith To Man Net Thursday

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Blackhawks, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has shown improved performance over his last several outings, but with a feeble Coyotes attack unable to muster much offense, the wins still aren't coming with any regularity. He'll once again be an undesirable play Thursday against the powerful Blackhawks, who will counter with a red-hot goalie in Corey Crawford in their net.

Yotes' Smith: Tough-Luck Loser

News: Mike Smith was the game's third star Saturday night after delivering a 33-save performance in a 2-0 loss to Montreal. He allowed just a single goal.
Analysis: This has been a season to forget Mike Smith who has suffered through an erosion of confidences and success. Saturday's effort was a strong one, but that doesn't change the fact that they've come too few and far between. There is a small ray of hope, though, in his last two -- he's allowed just three goals total against the Habs and Orcas. Maybe he'll save his career, but he won't save your squad.

Coyotes Give Net To Smith On Saturday

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Wild, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith will more than likely square off against his former understudy in Devan Dubnyk, who has been spectacular since claiming the Wild's No. 1 goalie job. Meanwhile, Smith has continued to flounder for the lottery-bound Coyotes, though he did recently help the team end its 10-game losing streak with a strong effort Thursday against Vancouver. Outings of that variety have been too infrequent for Smith, who will carry a horrid 11-31-5 record, 3.30 GAA, and .895 save percentage into Saturday's match.

Smith, Coyotes Snap Losing Skid

News: Mike Smith led the Coyotes out of their 10-game losing streak Thursday, stopping 32 of 34 and then all three in the shootout to come away with a 3-2 win over Vancouver.
Analysis: Mike Smith's first win in nearly a month, dating back to Feb. 9, is a nice morale boost for him and his team, but fantasy owners simply can't trust the veteran netminder this year, what with his horribly inconsistent play and the hole-filled lineup in front of him.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Thursday

News: Mike Smith is slated to start Thursday's game against Vancouver, Sportsnet's Dan Murphy reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith is a risky fantasy roll these days, with the low-scoring Coyotes in the midst of franchise record-tying, 10-game losing streak and Smith's last win having occurred back on Feb. 9.

Coyotes' Smith Allows Three Goals Tuesday

News: Mike Smith allowed three goals on 34 shots Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: It was Mike Smith's ninth loss in a row, despite the fact that he let in fewer than four goals for the first time in three starts. With the Coyotes clearly committed to a rebuilding effort, Smith is likely to have a tough time the rest of the way, but considering his 3.33 GAA and .894 save percentage this year, you probably gave up on him a while ago.

Coyotes' Smith In The Crease Tuesday

News: Mike Smith will be in the net Tuesday against the Ducks, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith dropped his eighth straight game Saturday against the Bruins and only saw his team context dip further south when the Coyotes dealt No. 1 center Antoine Vermette to the Blackhawks hours later and top blueliner Keith Yandle to the Rangers on Sunday. With the Coyotes demonstrating no desire to be competitive over the final few weeks of the season, it's hard to imagine many scenarios where Smith will enter the night as a favorite to pick up the win. That certainly won't be the case against the Ducks, who outpace the Coyotes by 40 points in the Western Conference standings.
