Coyotes' Smith To Play In Worlds

News: Mike Smith will play for Canada at the upcoming World Championships, reports Sarah McLellan of AZ Central.
Analysis: Mike Smith is coming off a tough year in which he posted just a 3.14 goals against and .904 save percentage - both marks the worst he has produced in his four years in Arizona. The team in front of him was truly terrible (the Coyotes gave up more than 200 shots more than they took at even strength this year) and Smith couldn't make up the difference. Perhaps time at the Worlds playing with a stronger cast will help him to put this season behind him.

Coyotes' Smith Stops 36 Shots In Season Finale

News: Mike Smith made 36 saves on 38 shots in Saturday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: A great final outing for Mike Smith, who finishes the season 14-42-5 with a .904 save percentage and 3.16 GAA. His ratios gradually improved over the season, but with the Coyotes losing so often, Smith wasn't of much fantasy value. With some promising young talent in the Arizona organization, Smith is likely to see his win total recover in the coming years.

Coyotes' Smith Draws Saturday Start

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Ducks, Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Analysis: The Coyotes' hopes of finishing with the league's worst record were dashed after the Sabres lost Friday against the Blue Jackets, but even if tanking is off the table, don't expect the Coyotes to rise to the occasion here. The Ducks are poised to finish with the best record in the Western Conference, while Mike Smith enters the crease with a horrid 14-41-5 record to go along with an equally poor 3.18 GAA and .903 save percentage. Smith's terrible season could lead the Coyotes to explore other options in goal heading into 2015-16.

Smith Yanked As Coyotes Get Routed

News: Mike Smith was responsible for the first four goals of Thursday's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Vancouver. He made 20 saves before being pulled late in the second period.
Analysis: In a season of misery, what's another loss? This one was No. 41 in the count for the season, and the 10th loss Mike Smith has taken in his last 13 outings. The offseason can't come soon enough for him and the Coyotes.

Coyotes Going With Smith On Thursday

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Canucks, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has posted save percentages above .900 in 12 of his last 14 outings, but has won on just four of those occasions, with three of those coming in overtime or a shootout. Simply put, Smith can't catch a break even when he's playing well, as there's not enough offensive talent around him to keep him in contention for victories most nights. Don't put much faith in Smith during the Coyotes' final two games of the season.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Tuesday

News: Mike Smith was the first goalie off the ice at morning skate and is thus in line to start Tuesday's road game against the Flames, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith, who stopped 42 of 45 shots in Saturday's 5-3 win over San Jose, heads into Tuesday's contest with an 0-3-0 mark against the Flames this season, to go along with a 4.05 GAA and .833 save percentage in that span. As those numbers would suggest, he's one of the weaker goalie options on the board for Tuesday's slate.

Coyotes' Smith Takes 40th Loss

News: Mike Smith stopped 29 of 32 shots Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to Calgary.
Analysis: Mike Smith had been on something of a hot streak by his standards, with three wins in his last five outings, but with this loss, he became the first goalie to absorb 40 regulation defeats in a season since Marc Denis dropped 41 in 2002-03 for the Blue Jackets. Ouch.

Coyotes' Smith Makes 42 Saves In Win

News: Mike Smith was outstanding Saturday, stopping 42 of 45 shots in a win over San Jose.
Analysis: The Coyotes may be well out of the playoff picture and piling up the losses, but Mike Smith has been playing very well of late, stopping 149 of the last 160 shots he's faced (.931 save percentage). The 33-year-old's 14-39-5 record this season is awful, but if you're looking for some decent rate stats in these final few games, Smith could be your man.

Coyotes' Smith To Start Saturday

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for the second half of the Coyotes' back-to-back set Saturday in Arizona, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Louis Domingue will lead things off Friday night to afford Mike Smith a measure of rest. Smith's play has improved over the last month or so, but he's still upholding a putrid ratios (3.14 GAA, .904 save percentage) to match his equally toxic 13-39-5 record. It's hard to trust him on any given night.

Coyotes' Smith Falls To Sabres

News: Mike Smith made 32 of 34 saves in a 4-1 loss to the Sabres on Monday. The other two goals were empty-netters.
Analysis: The nightmare season continues for Mike Smith, who -- despite making 75 saves the last two games -- came away the loser in each. His save percentage (.904) and GAA (3.14) are both disastrous and close to the worst of his nine-year career, and his 13 wins in 57 starts gives him his worst winning percentage since he won 13 in 36 starts in 2009-10 with Tampa Bay.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Monday

News: Mike Smith is slated to start Monday's home game against the Sabres.
Analysis: Mike Smith, who has allowed 10 goals over his last three games, has picked up two wins in that span, including a 4-3 overtime victory this past Thursday against the Sabres in Buffalo.

Yotes' Smith Makes 43 Saves In Loss

News: Mike Smith made 43 saves in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: The loss certainly wasn't his -- he only allowed one even-strength goal against a high-powered offence. Still, his season is all but forgettable; you just can't win on the ice or in fantasy with a stat line like his (13-37-5, 3.16, .902 heading into Saturday).

Coyotes Turn To Smith In Net Saturday

News: Mike Smith will make his fifth consecutive start in net Saturday against the Penguins, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has been faced with a barrage of shots recently, averaging 35 saves over the span. He's won each of the last two contests, and he'll look to make it a third Saturday. However, Smith will need to be up to the task, as he will take on a Penguins offense averaging 2.72 goals per game.

Consecutive Wins For Coyotes' Smith

News: Mike Smith stopped 32 of 35 and ended up with a 4-3 overtime victory Thursday against the Sabres.
Analysis: Whoa, consecutive wins (both in overtime)! This is only the second time all season that Mike Smith has managed to win two starts in a row, and the last time was in early November. So it's been a struggle, but hey, this is a positive to build on.

Coyotes' Smith Set To Play Thursday

News: Mike Smith will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Sabres, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has been playing his best hockey of the season thus far in March (2.33 GAA, .936 save percentage), but his offense didn't show up for him until Tuesday night against the Red Wings, with the goalie finally scoring a 5-4 overtime win. It was just the second victory for Smith in his last 17 outings, but he'll have a great shot at getting wins in back-to-back outings for the first time since November when he takes the net Thursday. The Sabres are the only team in the league with a worse record than the Coyotes, and rank last in scoring with just 1.78 goals per game.

Smith, Coyotes Beat Wings In OT

News: Mike Smith gave up four goals on 37 shots, but came away with a 5-4 overtime win against the Red Wings on Tuesday.
Analysis: Well, that was unexpected. The Coyotes (along with the Oilers and Sabres) are the league's doormat, while the Wings are in strong playoff position, but Mike Smith got some nice offensive support (or a bad game from Jimmy Howard on the other end -- you be the judge) and made some quality saves to deliver his first win since March 5, snapping a six-game losing skid. Curiously, he'd been much better over most of that losing streak than he was Tuesday.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Tuesday

News: Mike Smith is in line to start Tuesday's game against the Red Wings, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Though Mike Smith sports a 2.13 GAA and a .941 save percentage in March, he remains a risky roll while playing behind the Coyotes, who are 0-7-1 over their last eight games.

Coyotes' Smith Stops 41 Shots In Loss

News: Mike Smith stopped 41 of 43 shots in Sunday's loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: Another terrific outing from Mike Smith, who hasn't got much goal support of late. While he's stopped 109 of the last 114 shots he's faced (.956 save percentage), he's somehow still lost 15 of his last 16 games, dropping his record 11-37-5 on the season. Smith's .902 save percentage is on the rise, but with the team in front of him, don't expect a big increase in wins anytime soon.

Coyotes' Smith Makes 34 Saves In Loss

News: Mike Smith made 34 saves on 36 shots in Saturday's loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Another great game from Mike Smith, who has stopped 68 of the last 71 shots he's faced. Unfortunately, he's not getting much support and has now lost 14 of his last 15 games, dropping his record to 11-36-5 on the season. While his rate stats are trending upwards, Smith has a league-high 36 losses and is the starter on a team that just can't seem to win.

Coyotes' Smith Starting In Net Sunday

News: Mike Smith will start between the pipes Sunday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Mike Smith posted good outings in net each of his last two starts, but came up empty in the win column against the Kings and Penguins despite allowing two or less goals in each. He will start in the crease Sunday, looking to break a string of losses.

Coyotes' Smith Will Start Saturday

News: Mike Smith will start in net against the Penguins on Saturday, Sarah McLellan of The Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith will enter Saturday looking for just his 12th win on the season. Not surprisingly, his save percentage currently sits at .900 which is accompanied by a 3.20 GAA.

Coyotes Likely To Go With Smith On Saturday

News: Mike Smith is likely to receive the start for Saturday's game against the Penguins.
Analysis: Mike Smith gave way to rookie Louis Domingue in the Coyotes' last game Thursday against the Avalanche, which resulted in a 5-2 loss. With a four-game losing streak and losses in 13 of his past 14 starts, Smith simply can't be counted on to deliver promising results Saturday, despite the ratio improvement he's shown in defeat the last few times out.

Coyotes' Smith Sharp In Loss

News: Mike Smith stopped 34 of 35 shots he faced Monday, but took a tough luck 1-0 loss at the hands of the Kings.
Analysis: Although Mike Smith has allowed two or fewer goals in four of his last five starts, this was his fourth loss in a row and his 13th loss in his last 14 starts. With the Coyotes looking toward the future there will be a lot of tough nights for the veteran goalie and his fantasy value is as low as it has ever been since he arrived in Arizona.

Coyotes Turn To Smith On Monday

News: Mike Smith is on track to start Monday's game against the Kings, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith has dropped three straight starts, which has dropped his record to 11-34-5, to go along with a 3.24 GAA and .898 save percentage for the low-scoring Coyotes.

Coyotes Stick With Smith On Monday

News: Mike Smith will start Monday's game against the Kings.
Analysis: Mike Smith, who has lost his last three turns, remains a risky roll while working behind the low-scoring Coyotes' attack. The team has managed just three goals over its last four contests.
