Former Hab Armstrong Heads To Sweden

News: Colby Armstrong has signed to play with the Vaxjo Lakers of the Swedish Elite League, according to reports from overseas.
Analysis: He's the kind of older "middle-class" player who has been marginalized by the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. He is unlikely to return to the NHL.

Habs' Armstrong Will Not Return Next Season

News: Colby Armstrong will not return to the Canadiens next season, Renaud Lavoie of RDS.ca reports.
Analysis: The 30-year-old winger will reportedly move on after just one season in Montreal. He put up just five points (2G, 3A) while averaging more than 11 minutes in 37 games last season, so Colby Armstrong's unlikely to be a highly sought-after free agent.

Armstrong In Lineup For Montreal Win

News: Colby Armstrong played 16:14 in Friday's Game 2 victory over Ottawa in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong was busy in the victory and delivered one of the hits of the evening when he leveled teammate Rene Bourque. Armstrong is filling in for one of Montreal's several injured forwards and may be in the lineup for Sunday's Game 3. Stay tuned.

Canadiens' Armstrong Returns To Lineup

News: Colby Armstrong returned to the Montreal lineup after missing 10 games due to a knee injury. He skated 7:47 on the fourth line and saw minimal action on the penalty-kill unit.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong will continue to skate on the fourth line as the season concludes, giving him little fantasy value.

Canadiens' Armstrong Skates With Fourth Line

News: Colby Armstrong (knee) skated with the fourth line with Jeff Halpern and Brandon Prust during Monday's practice, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong is expected to return to action Tuesday night against New Jersey, though head coach Michel Therrien won't reveal his lineup until sometime prior to the game.

Habs' Armstrong Set To Return

News: Colby Armstrong is expected to return to the lineup Tuesday at New Jersey, according to TSN.ca. The forward has missed the last 10 games due to a right knee injury.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong only has five points in 35 games this season and will probably see third- or fourth-line minutes, so he's likely not going to be the guy to save your season in the final week.

Habs' Armstrong Out Thursday

News: Colby Armstrong (knee) will not play Thursday, Renaud Lavoie of RDS reports.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong was a game-time decision and will not suit up. He should be considered day-to-day going forward.

Habs' Armstrong A Game-Time Decision Thursday

News: Colby Armstrong (knee) is a game-time decision for Thursday's game against the Lightning.
Analysis: With just five points and 34 PIMs in 35 games to date, Colby Armstrong's status is of more import to the Habs' depth up front than it is to fantasy owners.

Habs' Armstrong Placed On IR

News: Colby Armstrong (knee) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Marc Godin of La Presse reports.
Analysis: This doesn't come as a surprise after Colby Armstrong was ruled out for the Habs' game on Friday against the Flyers. The IR-inducing knee injury occurred on Monday when Armstrong had a rough collision with the Hurricanes' Patrick Dwyer. Armstrong laid on the ice for several moments and was eventually helped to the locker room. The specifics of the injury have not been fully disclosed.

Habs' Armstrong Not On Flight To Philadelphia

News: Colby Armstrong (knee) did not travel with the team Tuesday to Philadelphia, Renaud Lavoie of RDS reports.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong injured his knee Monday against the Hurricanes and will not play against the Flyers on Wednesday. Ryan White has taken his place on the team flight.

Canadiens' Armstrong Leaves Game

Analysis: Colby Armstrong had to be helped off the ice in the third period following a collision with the Hurricanes' Patrick Dwyer.

Habs' Armstrong Follows Up

News: Colby Armstrong scored his second goal in as many games Tuesday night in Montreal's overtime loss to Buffalo. After scoring his first goal of the season in Saturday's win over New Jersey, Armstrong followed up the very next game scoring a game-tying goal with less than four minutes left in regulation.
Analysis: Goal-scoring is not Colby Armstrong's game, especially when he's locked into fourth-line duty. But he was promoted to the third line for Tuesday's game and skated with more skilled offensive players like Lars Eller and Alex Galchenyuk. While Brandon Prust continues to deal with a shoulder injury, perhaps we'll see more of Armstrong on the skilled units.

Canadiens' Armstrong Scores

News: Colby Armstrong scored his first goal of the season Saturday night in Montreal's win over New Jersey.
Analysis: A rare point for the fourth-line forward, who registered his first one in eight games.

Habs' Armstrong To Play Monday

News: Colby Armstrong (face) will skate Monday night against Carolina, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong took a puck to the face during Saturday night's win over Philadelphia. As a fourth-liner, Armstrong carries little fantasy value.

Canadiens' Armstrong Leaves Game

News: Colby Armstrong left Saturday night's win over Philadelphia late in the game after taking a puck to the face, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong was one of four Canadiens to leave the ice. He'll be evaluated Sunday in advance of Monday night's game in Carolina.

Montreal's Armstrong Delivers Hits

News: Colby Armstrong was credited with five hits Wednesday night in Montreal's loss to Ottawa.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong is seeing strictly fourth-line duty with the Habs this season and has taken just three shots on net in six games.

Habs Armstrong Signs with Utah Grizzlies of ECHL

News: Colby Armstrong has agreed to play with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL during the NHL lockout, the Grizzlies' official site reports.
Analysis: The Grizzlies are excited to add a veteran NHL player to their team during the lockout. Colby Armstrong will join the team immediately and has the rare opportunity of playing on the same team as his brother, Riley.

Armstrong Lands In Montreal

News: Colby Armstrong has signed a one-year, $1 million deal with Montreal, reports Toronto's FAN590.
Analysis: He'll bring his abrasive (when healthy) style to the Habs, who sorely need this type of player and personality. He'll be offered an opportunity to win a third-line role and act as a torpedo-like forechecker.

Toronto Buys Out Armstrong

News: Toronto bought out the remaining year of Colby Armstrong's three-year, $9 million contract Saturday and Armstrong will land on unconditional waivers as a result, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Injury issues, perhaps most notably concussion and ankle troubles, played a large part in a wasted 2011 season for Colby Armstrong in which he finished with just three points in 29 games.

Maple Leafs' Armstrong Returns To Practice

News: Colby Armstrong (nose) returned to practice Friday, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Colby Armstrong wore a full cage on his helmet to protect his broken nose, which he suffered Tuesday during a fight with Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.

Broken Nose Confirmed For Leafs' Armstrong

News: Colby Armstrong's nose is broken, reports the Toronto Star. He is doubtful for Wednesday's game.
Analysis: He's listed as day-to-day for now but we think the team will monitor him very closely for concussion-like symptoms. Remember -- he hid those symptoms the last time he took a hit to the head and the team will likely be all over him this time. Reserve him for now.

Nose Injury For Leafs' Armstrong

News: Colby Armstrong left Tuesday's game after a second-period fight and did not return.
Analysis: After the game, coach Randy Carlyle said Armie had "a problem with his nose," which had been visibly cut and was dripping blood when he left the ice. We can't forget Colby Armstrong has had concussion problems in the past, so the Leafs will probably exercise extreme caution with him.

Leafs' Armstrong To Slot Back In Saturday

News: Colby Armstrong (coach's decision) will slot back into the Leafs' lineup for Saturday's game against the Capitals, reports the Toronto Star.
Analysis: It's been a rough season for Armie who has been injured, hid a concussion and now sees his name in print and online in all sorts of trade rumors. When he's on his game, Colby Armstrong is a shift disturber that other teams hate playing against, particularly along the wall and near the blue paint. But he has no points in seven games since his return from a concussion and has been a healthy scratch in four of the Buds' last seven games. Keep him benched until he shows a little more fantasy value ... and until he proves he can stay in the lineup.

Leafs' Armstrong Nets First Of Season

News: Colby Armstrong notched his first goal of the season in his return to action Saturday.
Analysis: He'd been a healthy scratch in four of the Leafs' last seven games and he has struggled mightily this season with injuries. He only skated 11 shifts and 8:05 on the game so it remains to be seen if he'll remain in the lineup on an ongoing basis.

Leafs Make Armstrong Healthy Scratch Again

News: Colby Armstrong remains a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against Calgary, reports Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050.
Analysis: It wasn't about maintenance; it was about him needing to step up his game. Keep him on your bench until he's back for a couple games.
