Artyukhin jumps back into lineup

News: Thrashers RW Evgeny Artyukhin was back in the lineup on Tuesday against the Devils after missing one game with an upper-body injury. He had no points in 8:18 of ice time and finished at even. Artyukhin also avoided the penalty box.
Analysis: Artyukhin has played regularly for the Thrashers since joining the team at the trade deadline. He has been a decent offensive presence at times, but Artyukhin is still more of a checking-line presence. He has marginal Fantasy appeal when healthy.

Artyukhin has upper-body issue

News: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Thrashers RW Evgeny Artyukhin, who missed Saturday's loss to the Penguins with an upper-body injury, returned to practice Monday.
Analysis: Artyukhin has averaged just 16 points over his first three NHL seasons, but his 151 PIM last campaign made him an attractive option in deeper leagues that reward bad behavior coming into 2009-10. Unfortunately he's only managed 70 minutes in the penalty box so far, which has really hurt his Fantasy value.

Ducks get Oystrick for Artyukhin

News: The Ducks have acquired D Nathan Oystrick from the Thrashers, along with a conditional pick in the 2011 draft, in exchange for RW Evgeny Artyukhin.
Analysis: Oystrick has played the entire 2009-10 season in the AHL, producing 23 points in 41 games. He has 12 points in 53 games with Atlanta. Artyukhin had nine points in 37 games for the Ducks this season. At 6-4, 254, the 26-year-old Russian is known more for throwing his sizable frame around than anything, although he has been behaving himself a little more this season. Artukhin has some minimal value in super-deep seasonal formats that reward bad behavior, while Oystrick remains barely worth worrying about in Fantasy play.

Artyukhin matches single-game best

News: The Sports Xchange reports Ducks LW Evgeny Artyukhin picked up a goal and an assist on Tuesday against the Sabres to match his career high for points in a game, reached three times previously. Artyukhin also has a two-game goal streak, equaling another career high established on three previous occasions.
Analysis: Artyukhin has only played six times in January, but he already has six points and a plus-4 rating. He was a healthy scratch a lot in December because he wasn't playing well. He seems to have gotten the message, but Fantasy owners shouldn't race to waivers to add Artyukhin, who still has marginal Fantasy appeal.

Artyukhin playing way back into lineup

News: The Orange County Register reports that Ducks RW Evgeny Artyukhin, who was a healthy scratch a lot in December because of his propensity to turn the puck over, has played in two of the last three games and done very well. "He’s big, he’s physical," said coach Randy Carlyle. "He’s a big-time guy that’s hard to handle. He’s got to skate and hang onto that puck. Not turn it over. Play physical and stay in the structure. It’s the most positive effect he’s had on a game in a long time for our team."
Analysis: Artyukhin isn't on the ice for his offensive skills, but is instead more useful in picking up penalty minutes. He's only worth owning in the deepest of leagues that reward bad behavior.

Artyukhin slips up Tuesday

News: The Sports Xchange reports after acquiring LW Evgeny Artyukhin from the Tampa Bay Lightning in an offseason trade, the Ducks have worked with the hulking Russian to rein in a habit of bad penalties that got nearly out of control early in the season. The effort had appeared to pay off, Artyukhin taking only three minor penalties during an 18-game stretch since he took three penalties in a 5-0 loss to visiting St. Louis on Oct. 17. Artyukhin, though, was guilty of slashing, holding and tripping penalties, all in the offensive zone, during Tuesday night's 4-3 loss to visiting Los Angeles. The lone Kings power-play conversion, after the Artyukhin holding infraction, wound up being the difference in the game.
Analysis: Even Daniel Carcillo slips up once in awhile despite the fact he is no longer a penalty hound. Artyukhin dresses most nights to play on the Ducks' checking line. He doesn't post a lot of points, and if he isn't taking a lot of penalties, then he pretty much has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Artyukhin back from suspension

News: Anaheim RW Evgeny Artyukhin was back from his suspension on Saturday against the Coyotes but failed to record a point.
Analysis: Artyukhin was suspended three games for slew-footing Dallas' Matt Niskanen. He is mostly just used as an enforcer and is a low-end Fantasy option for the most part. Only have him active in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin hit with suspension

News: Anaheim Ducks right wing Evgeny Artyukhin has been suspended three games by the NHL for a slew-footing incident in Wednesday night's game against the Dallas Stars. Stars defenseman Matt Niskanen was injured on the play at 4:23 of the second period, though no penalty was called on the play.
Analysis: Artyukhin, who was also suspended two games last January, has two goals and 23 penalty minutes in eight games this season. He will miss games against Columbus on Saturday, Toronto on Monday and Vancouver on Oct. 30, and will be eligible to return Oct. 31 at Phoenix. While Artyukhin will chip in with a goal or point on occasion, he is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when active.

Artyukhin gets first 2009 goal

News: Ducks RW Evgeny Artyukhin got his first goal and 11th of his NHL career when he banged in a feed from Corey Perry in the second period Tuesday against the Wild.
Analysis: While Artyukhin will chip in with a goal or point on occasion, he was acquired in the offseason for his checking-line presence. Artyukhin is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Ducks add Artyukhin in trade

News: The Ducks have acquired right wing Evgeny Artyukhin from Tampa Bay for left wing Drew Miller and a third-round selection in the 2010 NHL draft. The deal was announced Thursday.
Analysis: Artyukhin had six goals and 10 assists in 73 games with the Lightning last season, his second in the NHL. He set career highs in goals, appearances and penalty minutes. The winger was selected by Tampa Bay in the third round of the 2001 draft. He also played for the Lightning in 2005-06, when they reached the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. Artyukhin is merely a lower-line presence for the Ducks and has limited Fantasy appeal.

Artyukhin scores 1st goal in a month

News: Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin scored his first goal in a month when he lit the lamp in Friday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Artyukhin has modest offensive talents and is primarily on the ice as a checking-line forward for Tampa Bay. He remains a low-end Fantasy option in standard leagues and a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin scores first March goal

News: Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin scored a goal during Sunday's 8-6 win against the Flames. He opened the scoring 11:07 into the game with his fifth goal and first score since Jan. 12.
Analysis: Artyukhin has modest offensive talents and is primarily on the ice as a checking-line forward for Tampa Bay. He remains a low-end Fantasy option in standard leagues and a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin done with suspension

News: Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin returned from a two-game suspension Tuesday against the Canadiens. He managed an assist in 12:21 of ice time and finished at even. He has one goal and three assists in his last six games.
Analysis: Artyukhin has modest offensive talents and is primarily on the ice as a checking-line forward for Tampa Bay. He remains a low-end Fantasy option in standard leagues and a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin suspended two games

News: The NHL has suspended Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin two games for his knee-on-knee hit to Florida's Ville Peltonen during Saturday's game.
Analysis: Artyukhin is a hard hitter and that isn't going to change. He has skills at both ends of the ice, but remains a low-end Fantasy option in standard leagues and a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

NHL might suspend Artyukhin

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning forward Evgeny Artyukhin might be getting a call from the league office after a knee-on-knee hit to Florida's Ville Peltonen during Saturday's game. Both Artyukhin and Peltonen stayed on the ice for a short period of time. Peltonen, however, had to be helped off the ice while not putting any weight on his right leg. Florida coach Pete DeBoer called the play a dirty hit, but said they would let the league decide.
Analysis: Artyukhin knocked out Kings rookie defenseman Drew Doughty with a clean hit Monday, but that's his game. He is a hard hitter and that isn't going to change. Artyukhin has skills at both ends of the ice, but remains a low-end Fantasy option in standard leagues and a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin chips in goal Monday

News: Evgeny Artyukhin and Mark Recchi scored 41 seconds apart late in the first period, Vincent Lecavalier also had a goal, and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Los Angeles Kings 3-1 Monday night. Steven Stamkos got the primary assist on Artyukhin's goal, tipping Vladimir Mihalik's backhanded clearing pass ahead to Artyukhin and starting a 3-on-1 rush. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound right wing carried the puck into the right circle with Adam Hall on the other side of defenseman Peter Harrold, then took a wrist shot that beat Erik Ersberg to the stick side. It was his second point in two games and first goal in seven appearances.
Analysis: Artyukhin has been a low-end scorer for the Lightning this season, but is primarily on the ice to play defense and stir it up. Artyukhin pretty much has Fantasy value in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin has three points in last seven

News: Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin tallied an assist in 11:47 of ice time Friday against the Ducks. It was his third point in seven games, but his first assist since Dec. 8.
Analysis: Artyukhin has been a good contributor this season among the Lightning's lower-line forwards, but he is asked more to be a defender than scorer. Artyukhin pretty much has Fantasy value in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin's mistakes send him upstairs

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning LW Evgeny Artyukhin was a healthy scratch Saturday against Colorado, his first healthy scratch of the season. Interim head coach Rick Tocchet said Artyukhin struggled in Friday's game at Minnesota, with at least three Artyukhin mistakes leading directly to scoring chances against.
Analysis: Tocchet said he wanted Artyukhin to watch a game from a different vantage point in order to watch how things develop. He has been a staple on the team's checking line this season, but hasn't provided a lot offensively. Artyukhin remains just a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Stamkos back on second line again

News: The reports that Lightning C Steven Stamkos, after one game on the top unit, is now back on the second line in Tampa playing alongside Radim Vrbata and Vinny Prospal. Evgeny Artyukhin will play with Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis on the top line.
Analysis: Stamkos had his most productive game as a pro on Tuesday against the Panthers, so we're not sure why Tocchet decided to change things up. Stamkos' value takes a little hit with this move, but Vrbata and Prospal are no slouches. Keep a close eye on how Stamkos does over the next few games if these lines stick. Artyukhin and his massive 6-4 frame will try and free up some room for the Lightning stars, but the Russian only has four points this season and can be ignored for the time being except in leagues that reward PIM.

Artyukhin scores first Tuesday

News: Tampa Bay RW Evgeny Artyukhin scored a goal and added an assist in the Lightning's 4-3 shootout loss to the Panthers on Tuesday night. Artyukhin scored his first goal of the season in the 3rd period to make it 3-2 Florida and assisted on Steve Eminger's goal in the 3rd to force overtime.
Analysis: Artyukhin has been a good spark for the Lightning on their checking line in recent weeks, but he has just four points on the entire season. He can't help Fantasy owners much if his production doesn't rise. Artyukhin remains just a flier in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Artyukhin returns from groin injury

News: Tampa Bay RW Evgeny Artyukhin returned to the lineup Wednesday against the Panthers after missing two games because of a lower body injury. He didn't have a point in 10:47 of ice time and finished at minus-1. He also spent two minutes in the penalty box.
Analysis: Artyukhin has been a good spark for the Lightning on their checking line in recent weeks, but he has taken 29 shots this season and hasn't scored. He has just two points and can't help Fantasy owners much if his production doesn't rise. Artyukhin remains just a flier in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

News: The St. Pete Times reports that Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin (groin) is back to full strength and will play Wednesday at Florida.

Artyukhin sidelined vs. Capitals

News: Lightning RW Evgeny Artyukhin missed a second straight game Monday against the Capitals with a suspected groin injury. He is day-to-day and questionable for Wednesday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Artyukhin has been a good spark for the Lightning on their checking line in recent weeks, but he has taken 29 shots this season and hasn't scored. He has just two points and can't help Fantasy owners much if his production doesn't rise. Artyukhin remains just a flier in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

Artyukhin nursing groin injury

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning LW Evgeny Artyukhin was a scratch on Saturday against Philadelphia, sidelined with an undisclosed injury, but it appears to be a groin strain that has slowed the 6-foot-5 forward down the past couple of days. He will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.
He is a risky start Week 6 (Nov. 10-16).

Artyukhin wins it for Lightning

News: Evgeny Artyukhin is best known as a tough guy on the ice. For one night, the Tampa Bay Lightning right wing turned into a game-winning scorer. Artyukhin scored in the eighth round of a shootout to lead the Lightning past the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday night. "I just watched the goalie and tried to shoot low," Artyukhin said. "That worked." Artyukhin has four goals in 82 career NHL games, and none in his last 33 dating back to Feb. 9. It was first career shootout attempt Saturday. "I just had a hunch about Arty," Tampa Bay coach Barry Melrose said. "I thought, let's put the big guy out there and see what he could do." Artyukhin talked with his brother, who celebrated a birthday Saturday, on the phone before the game. Scoring a goal was discussed as a gift. "I tried all game to score," Artyukhin said.
Analysis: Artyukhin has still not scored a point this season for the Lightning. He took eight shots on goal Saturday but contributed to Fantasy more by getting two minutes for high-sticking Chris Phillips. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.
