Habs' Budaj Gives Up Six In Game 5 Loss

News: Peter Budaj allowed six goals on 29 shots in Thursday's series-ending Game 5 loss at the hands of the Senators.
Analysis: This series was effectively over when Carey Price was hurt. Peter Budaj served as a reasonable backup this year, but he's not a guy you want to be forced to roll out come playoff time.

Canadiens' Budaj Starting Thursday

News: Peter Budaj will start for Montreal in Thursday night's Game 5 against Ottawa, the Hockey Inside Out blog reports.
Analysis: Carey Price (lower body) has been ruled out for the remainder of the series. Robert Mayer will serve as Peter Budaj's backup.

Habs' Budaj Thrust Into Action, Loses In OT

News: Peter Budaj entered in overtime Tuesday in Game 4 against Ottawa after Carey Price suffered a lower-body injury. He faced just two shots in 2:32, the second of which was Kyle Turris' game-winner.
Analysis: With the Habs fighting to even the series, the loss of Price would be a really tough blow. Peter Budaj is a fairly capable backup, but he was only entrusted with 10 starts all season and is certainly no long-term answer in goal. Of course, with the Canadiens down 3-1 in the series, there might not be much of a long term.

Canadiens' Budaj Starting Saturday

News: Peter Budaj will start in goal against Toronto on Saturday, the Montreal Gazette's Dave Stubbs reports.
Analysis: Both Peter Budaj and Carey Price have struggled a bit lately, but it is still surprising to see Budaj get the nod when the Canadiens still have a shot at the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Budaj is 7-1-1 on the year, despite his uninspiring .906 save percentage.

Habs Yank Budaj After One

News: Peter Budaj was pulled after the first period during the Canadiens' 6-4 loss to the Penguins on Wednesday.
Analysis: Peter Budaj allowed three goals on just nine shots in the opening frame, and was replaced by Carey Price, who had been pulled during each of his last two starts as well. With both goaltenders currently struggling, it will be interesting to see who the Habs go with against the Lightning on Thursday, with the playoffs approaching.

Habs Turn To Budaj Wednesday

News: Peter Budaj will start Wednesday's game against the Penguins, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: He'll get the nod Wednesday, in the wake of Carey Price being pulled from his last two starts. In 11 games to date -- including eight starts -- Peter Budaj has recorded a 7-1-1 record with a 2.19 GAA and a .915 save percentage. He'll face a Pittsburgh squad Wednesday that has won four straight contests.

Budaj Strong In Relief For Habs

News: Peter Budaj made 22 saves in relief Saturday after entering the game half-way through the first period. Starter Carey Price had given up three goals on four shots.
Analysis: He's been one of the league's best backups this season and made several great saves in relief once he settled in. He's a great handcuff until season's end -- the Habs may give Price some time off in preparation for the playoffs.

Habs' Budaj Rolls To Easy Win

News: Peter Budaj faced just 15 shots Thursday, stopping 14 of them in a 5-1 win over Buffalo.
Analysis: Peter Budaj's only gotten into nine games this year, but he's collected seven wins (all in a row). Amazingly, five of those wins have required him to make fewer than 20 saves.

Habs' Budaj Inks Two-Year Extension

News: Peter Budaj has signed a two-year contract extension with the Canadiens, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: Peter Budaj was set to hit free agency after the season, but this will keep him under the Canadiens' control through the end of the 2014-15 campaign. He has been excellent as a backup to Carey Price this season and has a shiny 6-1-1 record to show for it. He surrendered nine goals in his first two starts, but has allowed just eight goals in six outings since then.

Habs' Budaj Stops 33 In Spot-Start Win

News: Peter Budaj, making just his seventh start of the year and first since March 10, stopped 33 of 34 shots Thursday in a win over the Jets.
Analysis: Despite the limited opportunities, Peter Budaj has a six-game winning streak going for the impressive Habs. Nonetheless, expect Carey Price back out there Saturday against Boston.

Budaj Saves Canadiens' Bacon

News: Peter Budaj replaced Carey Price on Wednesday and stopped 14 of 15 shots in the third period/overtime and all six shootout attempts in Montreal's wild 6-5 win over Boston.
Analysis: Peter Budaj made several big stops in the third to keep Montreal within a goal or two while they mounted a comeback. Price should be back in the net Saturday against the Rangers.

Habs Start Budaj Sunday

News: Peter Budaj will start Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Peter Budaj will give Carey Price -- who started Saturday's 4-3 win over the Lightning -- a break for the sixth time this season. To date, Budaj is 3-1-1 with a 2.56 GAA and .906 save percentage.

Habs' Budaj Wins Sunday

News: Peter Budaj stopped 14-of-16 shots in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Panthers

Canadiens' Budaj Stops 31 In Win

News: Peter Budaj made 31 saves on 34 shots in a win over the Bruins on Sunday.
Analysis: Peter Budaj has only appeared in five games this season, and Carey Price isn't going to lose his job anytime soon. That leaves Budaj a matchup play at best.

Habs Start Budaj Sunday

News: Peter Budaj will get the start in goal Sunday against the Bruins.
Analysis: With the Habs having dropped a 7-6 decision to the Penguins on Saturday, Peter Budaj will give Carey Price a breather on Sunday against the red-hot Bruins, who have won six straight contests.

Canadiens' Budaj Picks Up Shutout

News: Peter Budaj stopped all 19 shots he faced for a shootout win over the Hurricanes on Monday.
Analysis: Carey Price was Peter Budaj's backup for this game, which means he will likely return from his illness soon, relegating Budaj back to being a seldom-used backup.

Habs' Budaj Starting In Goal Sunday

News: Peter Budaj will get the start in goal Monday against Carolina. "[Carey] Price is feeling better," coach Michel Therrien said. "But Budaj will be in goal against the Canes on Monday."
Analysis: In three games this season, Peter Budaj is 1-1 with a .884 save percentage and a 3.24 GAA. He will make his second straight start in place of the ill Price on Monday.

Habs' Budaj Notches First Win Of Season

News: Peter Budaj made 18 saves in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Flyers.

Habs' Budaj Likely To Start Saturday

Canadiens' Budaj Gives Up Four

News: Peter Budaj stopped 36 of 40 shots Thursday night in Montreal's 5-4 shootout loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: The Sabres were hungry in their barn Thursday after getting punked in Montreal last Saturday, but Peter Budaj did not play well, surrendering tying goals immediately after the Habs took 1-0 and 2-1 leads. Despite that, he was in a position to win in regulation, but Thomas Vanek poked the puck into the net out of a scrum with two seconds left to force overtime.

Budaj Struggles In Montreal Loss

News: Peter Budaj gave up five goals on 27 shots in a losing effort against Ottawa on Wednesday.
Analysis: With Carey Price getting the night off due to games on consecutive days, Peter Budaj did very little to impress in his first appearance of the season. The Habs have back-to-back games again Saturday and Sunday, so it will be interesting to see if Price is given the nod for both starts.
