Habs' Budaj Won't Start Monday

News: Peter Budaj will not start Monday's Game 2 against the Rangers, James Mirtle of TSN reports.
Analysis: The Canadiens will turn to Dustin Tokarski with Carey Price on the shelf for the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals, so Peter Budaj will play the role of backup once again. Tokarski will probably have a pretty short leash, though, so there's a good chance Budaj could get the start in Game 3 if Tokarski doesn't impress Monday.

Canadiens' Budaj Likely To Fill In For Price

News: Peter Budaj will likely take over as the Canadiens' starting goaltender with regular goalie Carey Price (leg) out for the rest of the Eastern Conference Finals.
Analysis: Peter Budaj was lit up for three goals on eight shots in relief of Price on Saturday, but he is still next in line with Price sidelined. Each of the goals Budaj allowed Saturday came on the power play, so his and his team's chances for success will improve if the Canadiens can avoid going a man down with the same frequency.

Budaj Appears In Relief: Habs To Start Him Game 2?

News: Peter Budaj was pressed into action Saturday against the Rangers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals. He entered the game to start the third period and he was welcomed with three power-play goals on the Rangers' first four shots. He allowed three goals on eight shots.
Analysis: At first, it appeared Peter Budaj entered the game to spell off Carey Price, who had been peppered through two periods. But later, there were suggestions Price had suffered an injury in the second period and may not be available for Game 2. Montreal will need Budaj to be significantly better than he was Saturday if the Habs put him in the blue paint for Game 2.

Budaj Gives Up Two In Two Minutes

News: Peter Budaj stopped 25 of 28 shots in Wednesday's overtime loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Not only did he give up the tying-goal to Marian Hossa with less than a minute remaining in regulation, he yielded the winner to Patrick Sharp less than a minute into overtime. While he's not the best option available, you could do worse and Peter Budaj (10-9) could end up with the one more nod before Carey Price takes over the reigns as Montreal begins it's playoff run.

Habs Will Start Budaj On Wednesday

News: Peter Budaj will man the net Wednesday against the Blackhawks, Marc Antoine Godin of the Montreal Press reports.
Analysis: Wednesday will mark Peter Budaj's final start of the season, with coach Michel Therrien announcing No. 1 goalie Carey Price will be in goal for the team's last two regular-season tilts. After providing a 1.97 GAA and .926 save percentage in 14 appearances before the break, Budaj has imploded since the Olympics, posting 3.24 and .887 marks in those respective categories.

Budaj Busy In Habs Win

News: Peter Budaj stopped 39 of the 43 shots he faced in Friday's 7-4 win over Ottawa, his first start in four games.
Analysis: Peter Budaj didn't get off to a great start on the evening as the Senators took a 3-0 lead early, but Budaj kept the Canadiens in the game despite being outshot almost to 2-to-1. Budaj may see a start next week if the Canadiens have sewn up the the No. 2 seed in their matchup against Tampa Bay, but figure Carey Price will get the bulk of the action, as usual.

Canadiens Tab Budaj For Friday Start

News: Peter Budaj will be in the crease Friday against the Senators.
Analysis: With Carey Price's four-game winning streak coming to an end Tuesday, coach Michel Therrien finally has a good reason to give his top netminder a rest with the postseason looming. Peter Budaj will man the net for the first time since March 24.

Canadiens' Budaj Stops 28 In Win

News: Peter Budaj made 28 saves on 29 shots in a shootout win over the Bruins on Monday.
Analysis: Peter Budaj had lost four straight games before this, and then Carey Price returned to take back the starting role, so it's nice for him to earn this win, even if he may not play a ton down the stretch.

Habs Going With Budaj On Monday

News: Peter Budaj will be in goal Monday against the Bruins, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: As expected, Peter Budaj will make his first appearance since Mar. 12 -- incidentally, a 4-1 loss to the Bruins. Boston has kept winning since that game, making it tough to recommend using Budaj as a streaming option Monday.

Habs' Budaj Probable To Start Monday

News: Peter Budaj is expected to receive the start Monday against the Bruins, John Lu of TSN Montreal reports.
Analysis: Peter Budaj will slot in the crease while Carey Price gets the night off in preparation of his expected start Tuesday against the Sabres. It's safe to say that Budaj gets the tougher draw of the two goalies in the back-to-back, as he'll be taking on a Bruins squad that has reeled off 12 straight wins, scoring four or more goals in all but three of those games.

Tokarski Gets Habs' Start Over Budaj On Sunday

News: Peter Budaj's teammate, Dustin Tokarski is slated to start Sunday's game against the Sabres.
Analysis: Carey Price did not make the trip to Buffalo after playing Saturday, so the Habs will roll with Tokarski on Sunday, while Buffalo counters with Jhonas Enroth.

Habs' Budaj Likely To Start Sunday

News:
Analysis: Price is merely getting a day to rest, after returning from a lower-body injury to win Saturday's game. Unless there's news of a setback with Price, Peter Budaj will be stuck in the No. 2 role for the rest of the season.

Budaj Struggles Again As Habs Drop Another

News: Peter Budaj was beaten for four goals on 32 shot attempts in Wednesday's loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: It was the third consecutive outing in which Peter Budaj's save percentage fell below the .900 mark, as the goalie took his fourth straight loss. Budaj was one of the better No. 2 netminders going before he was pressed into full-time duty after the Olympics thanks to Carey Price's lower-body injury. Suffice to say, Price can't return soon enough for the Habs.

Habs' Budaj Gets Start Wednesday

News: Peter Budaj will start between the pipes Wednesday against the Bruin, John Lu of TSN reports.
Analysis: Peter Budaj has been saddled with three straight losses, and was yanked in his last outing after giving up two goals on 11 shots to the Sharks. He'll continue to get the majority of the starts for the Canadiens until Carey Price (lower body) returns, which could be fairly soon considering that Price was a full participant in Wednesday's morning skate.

Budaj Yanked In Habs' Loss

News: Peter Budaj was pulled from the crease early in the second period after allowing two goals in the first 11 shots he faced Saturday against San Jose.
Analysis: Two tallies in just over 20 minutes isn't a mortal sin, but the first of those was uber-soft, resulting from Peter Budaj's mishandling a puck during a Montreal power play. Whenever Carey Price can return, Budaj will get a one-way ticket to the end of the bench.

Habs To Start Budaj On Saturday

News: Peter Budaj will be in goal Saturday vs. the Sharks, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: With Carey Price still slowed by a lower-body injury, Peter Budaj will make his fifth start in the last six games for the Canadiens. Budaj seems to have been exposed while playing more regularly for the Canadiens, as he's only posted a save percentage above .900 in one of his previous four contests.

Habs' Budaj Lit Up In Phoenix

News: Peter Budaj was beaten for five goals on 23 shots in Thursday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: Peter Budaj's made all five starts for the Habs since the Olympics, as Carey Price (lower body) is still sidelined, and the results have been decidedly mixed -- he's 2-2-1 and has allowed 17 goals in that span.

Budaj Handed Thursday Start For Montreal

News: Peter Budaj will start in goal Thursday night, The Montreal Gazette's Dave Stubbs reports.
Analysis: Peter Budaj was rested for Wednesday's game, which should allow him to be fresh for Thursday's start while Carey Price (lower body) remains out. In four starts since returning from the Olympic break, Budaj has allowed 12 goals and won twice.

Habs' Budaj Not Starting Wednesday

News: Updating a previous report, Peter Budaj will not start Wednesday against the Ducks, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: It was assumed Peter Budaj would get the starting nod Wednesday with Carey Price (lower body) on injured reserve, but it sounds like they'll give him the day off after he made the first four starts out of the break for the Canadiens. Dustin Tokarski will make his season debut in his stead. Budaj is presumably on track to get the start for the second game of the back-to-back Thursday vs. the Coyotes, but it's possible Price could be ready to play by then, after he was on the ice for Wednesday's morning skate.

Habs' Budaj Will Start Wednesday

News: Peter Budaj will start between the pipes Wednesday against the Ducks, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: This comes as no surprise, considering Carey Price is still on the shelf with a lower body injury. The Habs also acquired goalie Devan Dubnyk from the Predators on Wednesday, but Peter Budaj is still expected to retain the backup job when Price returns.

Habs' Budaj Tabbed To Start Monday

News: Peter Budaj will be in the crease Monday against the Kings, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Peter Budaj will make his fourth straight start with Carey Price still slowed by a lower-body injury. He's produced a mixed bag of result in his run as the No. 1 starter with a 2-0-1 record and a .896 save percentage.

Canadiens' Budaj Lets In Two In Loss

News: Peter Budaj made 20 saves on 22 shots in a loss to the Kings on Monday.
Analysis: With Carey Price on injured reserve, Peter Budaj is the de facto starter for the Habs for now. He's currently having the best season of his career, with a .918 save percentage and a 2.20 GAA.

Habs' Budaj: Back-To-Back Wins

News: Peter Budaj made 22 saves in a 4-3 overtime win over Toronto on Saturday night.
Analysis: He'll be between the pipes until Carey Price returns from his minor injury. He has back-to-back wins, but has allowed eight goals in those two games. He's a risk.

Canadiens' Budaj To Start Again Saturday

News: Peter Budaj will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Regular goaltender Carey Price is battling a lower-body injury and did not practice Friday, so Peter Budaj will start his third straight game Saturday. Budaj gave up five goals in his last start Thursday, but he had not allowed more than three goals in a game all season prior to that, and owns a 2.16 GAA and .920 save percentage in 16 games (13 starts).

Habs' Budaj Shaky In Thursday's Win

News: Peter Budaj allowed five goals on 32 shots, but ended up with a 6-5 win Thursday as Montreal outlasted the Penguins in a shootout.
Analysis: If it were allowed, both teams would arguably have been better off pulling their goalies and turning the nets around, as everything seemed to get by them. Peter Budaj the tended twine for the second night in a row –- his first back-to-back starts of the season –- and miraculously came away with his seventh win in 13 tries. He hasn't had much fantasy relevance in his backup role to workhorse Carey Price, but you should keep him on your radar in case Price's lower-body ailment is worse than expected. The Habs play again Saturday at home against the Leafs with Price's availability still in question; monitor closely.
