Canucks' Hamhuis Sets Up Two Thursday

News: Dan Hamhuis grabbed two helpers Thursday -- his first points in five games -- in a 4-2 home loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: The assists bring his total to just 17 on the season, which is especially disappointing after he put up 20 in 31 fewer games last year. It's not all Dan Hamhuis' fault, however, as the Canucks' lack of offense (last in the Western Conference and 28th overall with 2.30 goals per game) has been well documented. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the main accomplishment for the 31-year-old B.C. native this season is bringing home gold for Team Canada at the Olympics -- an achievement that doesn't impact fantasy stats. On the bright side, he leads the Canucks with a plus-14 rating and his shot total of 149 is his highest in 10 NHL seasons, so with a little puck luck next year, he could see a moderate uptick in goals.

Canucks' Hamhuis Gets It Done Against Wild

News: Dan Hamhuis racked up an assist and went plus-3 in 24:24 of ice time in Wednesday's win over the Wild.
Analysis: A solid outing from the 31-year-old, who has been heating up as of late. Dan Hamhuis now has has three points (a goal and two assists) in his last five games, and has posted a plus-8 rating over his past seven games. He only has 19 points in 72 games on the season, but has the potential to generate some fantasy value down the stretch.

Canucks' Hamhuis Ends 48-Game Goal Drought

News: Dan Hamhuis scored his fifth goal of the season in Sunday's win over Florida, ending a 48-game goal drought.
Analysis: Wow, 48 games, had it really been that long? Dan Hamhuis has gone cold as of late, tallying only two points in his last 15 games. It has been a forgettable year for the 31-year-old, who only has 17 points through 68 games. It's not all bad though, as his plus-10 rating is quite impressive, considering the way the Canucks have struggled. Still, you can't be happy with the fact he is on pace to post a lower point total this season than he did in a shortened campaign (47 games) last season.

Canucks' Hamhuis Returns With Gold

News: Dan Hamhuis has returned to Vancouver after winning gold with Team Canada at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi,Team 1040's Jeff Paterson reports.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis played in all but one of Team Canada's six games, failing to register a point, while averaging only 4:02 of ice time per game. With Drew Doughty, Shea Weber, Duncan Keith, and Alex Pietrangelo all part of Canada's defense core, it wasn't expected that Hamhuis would play much. Though he didn't play a big role in the team's success, the Olympic experience should benefit Hamhuis, as he got to play with some elite players. Hopefully the break will do some good for Hamhuis, as he was struggling in the NHL entering the Olympics, failing to register a point in his last five NHL games, and going minus-4 in that span.

Canucks' Hamhuis Ready To Play Saturday

News: Dan Hamhuis (undisclosed) is expected to play in Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis has missed the past two games for Vancouver with an undisclosed injury, but has been given the green light for Saturday's game. He should be safe to deploy unless his status changes before game time.

Canucks' Hamhuis Day-To-Day

News: Dan Hamhuis (undisclosed) will not play Thursday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: He'll be a spectator for the second straight game. The Canucks list Dan Hamhuis as day-to-day in advance of Saturday's game against the Leafs.

Canucks' Hamhuis To Sit Tuesday

News: Dan Hamhuis (undisclosed) will not play Tuesday against the Bruins, Amalie Benjamin of the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: Though the nature and extent of the injury remain unknown, Dan Hamhuis apparently suffered the undisclosed ailment in Monday's loss to the Red Wings. He'll take a seat Tuesday with new acquisition Raphael Diaz taking his spot in the lineup.

Canucks' Hamhuis Ends Scoring Drought

News: Dan Hamhuis ended a seven-game scoring drought on Sunday, collecting an assist and going plus-2 in a win over Phoenix.
Analysis: While it's nice to see Dan Hamhuis back on the scoresheet, he has been bumped off both power-play units, with Chris Tanev being his replacement. Hamhuis is a solid defenseman, but only has 15 points in 53 games this season, making him an overall disappointment for fantasy owners.

Canucks' Hamhuis Plays Career-High 36:12 In Win

News: Dan Hamhuis played a career-high 36:12 in Saturday's shootout win over Calgary.
Analysis: Though he didn't register a point, Dan Hamhuis was given first star honors for his great defensive performance. In a game that saw 188 penalty minutes in the first period alone, Hamhuis stepped up and showed why he is a great leader on the blueline in Vancouver. His offensive totals have been disappointing though, as he is pointless in his last five games and only has 14 points in 50 games on the season.

Canucks' Hamhuis Notches Two Helpers

News: Dan Hamhuis picked up two assists while playing 32:30 against the Flyers on Monday.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis has 13 points in 41 games, which is about what you'd expect from him, but he's gone plus-12 and logs a lot of ice time, so he generates some fantasy value there.

Canucks' Hamhuis Contributes On Power Play

News: Dan Hamhuis picked up a power-play assist in a win over the Jets on Sunday.
Analysis: He has only collected 10 points in 39 games this season, but his defensive play has improved drastically of late. He now has a plus-10 rating on the year and has played himself back into Olympic consideration.

Canucks' Hamhuis Struggling Offensively

News: Dan Hamhuis fired three shots on goal Sunday against Colorado, but was held without a point for the eighth time in nine games.
Analysis: After putting up 24 points in a shortened campaign last season, Dan Hamhuis has only collected eight points in 31 games this season. He's still averaging 22:56 of ice time per game, but has transitioned back into more of a defensive role with the team. Hamhuis has struggled on both ends, though, and is on pace to post his worst plus-minus rating in three years.

Canucks' Hamhuis Scores Third Goal In Four Games

News: Dan Hamhuis scored his third goal in four games in a 5-1 loss to the Kings on Saturday. He led all Canucks with 22:19 of ice time.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis also collected two penalty minutes and dished out two hits in the loss. He is heating up as of late and has put his early season struggles behind him.

Canucks' Hamhuis Strikes Again

News: Dan Hamhuis scored for the second consecutive game Tuesday, tallying early in the second period in a shootout loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: He'd been cold early in the year, but finally seems to be turning things around recently. Still, he's never been a high-end offensive contributor, so don't expect much.

Canucks' Hamhuis Breaks Scoring Slump

News: Dan Hamhuis broke out of a scoring slump Saturday, tallying his second goal of the season in a win over Toronto.
Analysis: Prior to Saturday, Dan Hamhuis had only one point over his past 12 games. He has been moved back onto the top power-play unit and saw 7:06 of man advantage time Saturday. He may be starting to turn things around offensively.

Canucks' Hamhuis Has Gone Cold

News: Dan Hamhuis has only two points over his past 12 games and is a minus-1 on the season.
Analysis: What happened to the Dan Hamhuis who led the Vancouver blueline in scoring last season with 24 points in 47 games? His power-play time has gone down about 30 seconds from last season and he seems to be lacking the offensive spark that made him so successful. He might turn it around, but the Canucks have been getting plenty of offense from other defensemen. Give it some more time before you give up on him completely, though.

Canucks' Hamhuis Sits Out Practice With Injury

News: Dan Hamhuis sat out Wednesday's practice with an upper-body injury, the Vancouver Province's Ben Kuzma reports.
Analysis: The injury apparently stemmed from a blocked shot attempt that Dan Hamhuis suffered in the second period of Tuesday's game, but it's not expected to sideline him for Thursday's contest. Hamhuis hadn't been particularly productive through his first seven games anyway, so it might be most prudent for fantasy owners to keep him on the bench Thursday now that he's nursing an injury.

Canucks' Tortorella Not Worried About Hamhuis Starting Slow

News: Coach John Torterella is not worried about Dan Hamhuis going minus-4 and having six turnovers over his first six games, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: "It's a different situation when different staffs come in. We're trying to make it smooth. I have full confidence he's going to be the player we know he is." Dan Hamhuis led the team in defensemen scoring last season but only has two points through his first six games and has lost his spot on the top power-play unit. He has been a defensive liability at times this season and his minus-4 rating is reason for concern. Hamhuis likely won't be as valuable as he was last season in fantasy hockey, but don't give up on him yet. As Tortorella noted, Hamhuis will turn it around soon and get back to his usual level of play.

Hamhuis Scores In Canucks Victory

News: Dan Hamhuis scored his first goal of the season in Vancouver's 6-2 victory over the Oilers on Saturday evening.
Analysis: The goal was a weak one from the blue line and it's more likely to make the blooper reel than the highlight reel. Nevertheless, a goal is a goal and Dan Hamhuis now has his first marker of the season. He is a solid fantasy option but it's worth pointing out that he has lost his spot from last season on the team's deadly top power-play unit. He averaged 3:01 of man advantage time Saturday while fellow defenseman Jason Garrison and Alexander Edler all logged over seven minutes.

Canucks' Hamhuis Back In Action

News: Dan Hamhuis logged 22:38 of ice time in Vancouver's 5-0 preseason loss to the Sharks Tuesday. It was his first game back after missing time with general soreness.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis looked fine in Tuesday's game and was one of the only Canuck players to go even in their 5-0 loss to the Sharks. He fired two shots on goal and also dished out a hit. The soreness was likely nothing to worry about as Hamhuis appears to be back in top form.

Canucks' Hamhuis Close To Returning

News: Dan Hamhuis (general soreness) is close to returning to action, TSN's Farhan Lalji reports.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis has missed the past few Canuck practices but appears close to returning. The elite two-way defenseman is a fixture on the Canucks defense corpse and you should see him back in no time.

News: Dan Hamhuis (general soreness) will return to action Tuesday as the team takes on the Sharks, Team 1040's Blake Price reports.

Canucks' Hamhuis Misses Practice With General Soreness

News: Dan Hamhuis missed the team's practice Sunday morning with general soreness, Team 1040's Jeff Paterson reports.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis led all Canucks defenseman in points last season and is hoping to duplicate his success this season. He likely skipped practice as a precautionary measure and there is no reason to be concerned.

Canucks' Hamhuis Racking Up Points

News: Dan Hamhuis dished out his 20th assist of the season in Monday's 3-1 win over Chicago.
Analysis: Dan Hamhuis has been on a tear in April, racking up eight points (2 G, 6 A) in 11 games. With 24 points in 46 games, Hamhuis is scoring at a pace that would result in his first 40-point effort over an 82-game schedule. Make sure he's in your lineup for the final couple games of the season.

Canucks' Hamhuis On Career-Best Pace

News: Dan Hamhuis picked up an empty-net goal in Monday's 2-0 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: The goal was Dan Hamhuis' fourth of the season, which matches his total in 82 games last season. He's also picking up assists (15) at a steady rate and would be on pace to set a career high in points if there were a full 82-game schedule this year.
