Sabres' McCormick Works Out Tuesday

News: Cody McCormick (leg) took to the ice during Tuesday's optional practice.
Analysis: Cody McCormick's participation was likely limited, as it's generally been speculated that he won't play again this season. Until the Sabres provide word that he is seeing involvement in contact drills, McCormick will likely continue to focus on maintaining his conditioning before heading into the offseason.

Season Likely Over For Sabres' McCormick

News: Cody McCormick, who has only played 33 games this season due to blood clots, appears unlikely to return the rest of the way this season, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: That said, Cody McCormick also seems happy the problem has been pinpointed and is hopeful to return at full strength next season. Assuming that's the case, he'll finish is 2014-15 campaign with four points, 40 penalty minutes, 77 hits, and 29 blocks.

Sabres' McCormick Likely Out For Season

News: McComick, who had been hospitalized due to a blood clot in his leg, appears likely to miss the rest of the season, the Sabres' official site reports.
Analysis: Though Cody McCormick was discharged from the hospital last week, coach Ted Nolan doesn't think that the forward will return to action before the conclusion of the season. "It looks like he's out for the year," Nolan indicated Sunday. "There's nothing official, but that was one of the remarks I heard right at the beginning when he was in the hospital. So right now, I'm not banking on him coming back." Who will replace McCormick full-time remains to be seen with Phil Varone and Matt Ellis demoted Monday. The fourth-line agitator has been one of the Sabres better veteran players this season and his presence will be missed. However, this does open the door for youngsters such as Mikhail Grigorenko or Johan Larsson to make a further impression in the NHL. The Sabres will likely use the All-Star break to re-evaluate the roster.

Sabres Place McCormick On IR

News: Cody McCormick was placed on injured reserve Monday due to the blood clot in his leg.
Analysis: Cody McCormick was discharged from the hospital Monday after he was placed under evaluation for the clot, but still faces an uncertain recovery timetable. By placing him on IR, the team can open up a roster spot and attempt to cover for his absence.

Sabres' McCormick Out Of Hospital

News: Cody McCormick, who needed to have treatment for a blood clot in his leg this weekend, is out of the hospital. However, there's no timetable for his return, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The Sabres, already without stars among their forward ranks, have a banged-up unit up front right now, and it sounds like they may be without Cody McCormick's grit and toughness at least a bit longer.

Sabres' McCormick Hospitalized With Blood Clot

News: Coach Ted Nolan indicated Cody McCormick has been hospitalized due to a blood clot and is out indefinitely, John Vogl of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick has been nursing a lower-body injury but hasn't missed any time since late December. The blood clot diagnosis is obviously concerning, and his timetable for return is undetermined at this point. For now, his biggest concern likely involves getting the blood clot removed. For the Sabres, this means a spot in the lineup has opened up for someone such as Mikhail Grigorenko or Phil Varone to stick around a little longer. Varone has been more impressive recently and has the edge for now.

Sabres' McCormick Out With Injury Tuesday

News: Cody McCormick is nursing a lower-body injury and isn't expected to play Tuesday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Cody McCormick obtained some sort of injury in Saturday's game, as he was barely able to walk Sunday and didn't feel strong enough to practice Monday. He'll retain the day-to-day tag for now, with the Sabres recalling Tim Schaller from AHL Rochester to fill his spot in the lineup.

Sabres' McCormick Set To Play Tuesday

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) took part in line rushes during morning skate and looks poised to play Tuesday against the Devils, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: It looked like Cody McCormick was on track to sit this one out to take more time to recuperate, but when Drew Stafford left the team to witness the birth of his child, coach Ted Nolan likely changed his plans. McCormick figures to only see limited minutes as a member of the Sabres' fourth line.

Sabres' McCormick Officially A Game-Time Decision

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) is officially a game-time decision for Tuesday's tilt with the Devils.
Analysis: Cody McCormick hasn't been able to take to the ice since Saturday's game, and though he's been feeling better the past couple of days, his health remains something of a question mark. The Sabres will reexamine his situation closer to pregame warmups, and if it's determined he can't go, the team will try to get by with an 11-forward, seven-defenseman lineup.

Sabres' McCormick Set To Return Saturday

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) will be activated from injured reserve to play Saturday against the Islanders, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick had missed the club's previous six games with the lower-body injury, but it looks like the holiday break provided enough time for the forward to nurse himself back to full health. He's set to center a checking line with Johan Larsson and Patrick Kaleta in his return to action.

Sabres' McCormick To Remain Out Tuesday

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) will remain out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Red Wings.
Analysis: Cody McCormick traveled with the team to Detroit with an outside possibility of playing Tuesday, but the team will have him wait until after the Christmas break before making his return. It will be the sixth consecutive game McCormick has missed due to the injury.

Sabres' McCormick Placed On IR

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Sunday.
Analysis: With several Sabres players succumbing to either injury or illness over the weekend, Cody McCormick was moved to IR in order to facilitate a roster spot for a healthy call-up. McCormick last played Dec. 11, so he's eligible to be activated from IR as soon as the Sabres determine he's ready to play. Coach Ted Nolan indicated Monday that McCormick could be activated as soon as Tuesday's game against the Red Wings, according to Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.

Sabres' McCormick Takes To Ice Saturday

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) was able to get in a brief skate before Saturday's practice, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: It looks to be just a preliminary step in the recovery process for Cody McCormick, who is being viewed as week-to-week by the Sabres. The team isn't likely to have a firmer timetable for his return until he resumes practicing with the rest of the team.

Sabres' McCormick Week-To-Week

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) is considered week-to-week, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick has already missed the last three games with the injury and doesn't seem to be particularly close to a return. The Sabres could place him on injured reserve in the next few days to open up a roster spot for a healthy body at AHL Springfield.

Sabres' McCormick To Miss Third Straight

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) will not play Tuesday against the Jets.
Analysis: It doesn't sound like Cody McCormick has resumed skating since suffering the lower-body injury last Thursday. He could be moved to injured reserve if he remains absent over the next several contests.

Sabres' McCormick Not Expected To Play Saturday

News: Cody McCormick (lower body) isn't expected to play Saturday against the Panthers.
Analysis: Coach Ted Nolan suggested the injury Cody McCormick sustained Thursday against the Flames wasn't overly serious, but it appears significant enough to keep the forward out of the lineup for at least Saturday's match. Cody Hodgson would likely enter the lineup in place of McCormick.

Sabres' McCormick Suffers Lower-Body Injury

News: Cody McCormick suffered a lower-body injury during Thursday's game against the Flames and will not return.
Analysis: The origin of Cody McCormick's injury is unclear, but it will cause him to miss the remainder of Thursday's contest. The team will likely provide an update on his status before Saturday's game against the Panthers.

Sabres' McCormick To Return Thursday

News: Cody McCormick (concussion) will be activated from IR and play Thursday against the Lightning, WGR 550 Sports Radio reports.
Analysis: Coach Ted Nolan declared after Wednesday's practice that Cody McCormick received full clearance to return to game action, ending just over a one-week absence. Tim Schaller will be sent down to AHL Rochester to clear a room for McCormick on the 23-man roster.

Sabres Move McCormick (Concussion) To IR

News: Cody McCormick (concussion) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Cody McCormick reported improvement with his condition Monday, but he's not quite ready to return to action Tuesday against the Lightning, which will be the fourth straight game he's missed. Moving McCormick to IR will allow the Sabres to restock on some depth at forward by adding Tim Schaller from the minors.

Sabres' McCormick Remains Sidelined

News: Cody McCormick (concussion) will not play Tuesday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Cody McCormick said he is "feeling pretty good," but he is still going through the concussion protocol, so he will not play Tuesday. McCormick took part in Tuesday's morning skate and also skated Monday, however, so his return should not be far off.

Sabres' McCormick Practices

News: Cody McCormick (concussion) practiced with the team Monday, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick took a skate to the face, but returned to the ice a couple days later, and practiced Monday without restriction. There's no word yet on whether or not he'll suit up for Tuesday's game against the Lightning at this point.

Sabres' McCormick (Concussion) Skates Wednesday

News: Cody McCormick (concussion) took part in Wednesday's optional skate, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick remains under the concussion protocol after taking a skate to the face in Saturday's game versus the Capitals, but his participation at practice would seem to be a good sign. Though he'll sit out Wednesday's game against the Jets, McCormick could be ready to go for Friday's tilt with the Canadiens.

Sabres' McCormick Could Have Concussion

News: Cody McCormick (head) is undergoing concussion protocol, Bill Hoppe of the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick took a skate to the face in Saturday's game, and headed straight to the locker room. Given his history with concussion problems, it's certainly a bad sign that he could be dealing with yet another one.

Sabres' McCormick Takes Skate To Face

News: Cody McCormick left Saturday's game against Washington after taking a skate to the face and will not return.
Analysis: It was a scary incident, as Cody McCormick took a skate to the face that seemed perilously close to dealing some serious damage. It was a hard blow nonetheless, and raises the issue of a potential concussion given McCormick's history with head injuries. He's day-to-day until we know more.

Sabres' McCormick Will Play Saturday

News: Cody McCormick (undisclosed) will be in the lineup Saturday against the Blackhawks, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Cody McCormick was considered questionable heading into the day after missing Friday's practice, but the maintenance day was all he needed to regain health. He's expected to center the Sabres' checking line.
