Rangers Assign Bell to AHL Hartford

News: The Rangers assigned Brendan Bell to AHL Hartford on Tuesday, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: Brendan Bell played in his first game of the season Saturday night, but apparently the Rangers aren't interested in keeping him in the lineup at this time. He'll head to Hartford to get more playing time.

Rangers' Bell In Lineup Against Oilers Saturday

News: Brendan Bell will be in the lineup Saturday night against the Oilers, according to Steve Zipay of Newsday.
Analysis: Coach John Tortorella said he's looking to get a little more speed and quickness into the lineup with the addition of Brendan Bell, playing over Jeff Woywitka.

Rangers Recall Bell

News: Brendan Bell has been recalled by the Rangers, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: No word yet on the corresponding move, but Brendan Bell should provide blue-line depth for the Rangers during their upcoming road trip.

Rangers Send Bell To Hartford

News: Brendan Bell has been sent to Hartford (AHL), Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Tim Erixon is staying with the big club, so Brendan Bell heads to Hartford for now as the Rangers want to get a longer look at the former first-round pick.

Rangers' Bell Placed On Waivers

News: The Rangers placed Brendan Bell on waivers Tuesday, according to NHL.com's Dan Rosen.
Analysis: With Marc Staal set to miss the opening two games of the year, it looked like Brendan Bell had a chance to remain with the Rangers for the short term. This move combined with Stu Bickel also being placed on waivers leaves the Rangers with only five healthy defensemen, including Michael Sauer (shoulder). Expect a veteran signing or trade before the season officially begins.

Rangers' Bell Close To Locking Up Roster Spot

News: Brendan Bell has had himself a strong training camp and has survived final cuts to the defense, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Brendan Bell has always had good offensive skills for a defensemen but he's shown enough improvement on the defensive side to stick with the Rangers', to start the year. In all likelihood when Marc Staal returns and Michael Sauer is completely healthy, that either Bell or Stu Bickel will be demoted. Bell has little fantasy value but if he stay with the team, it's possible he could work his way into some second unit power-play time.

Brendan Bell Eyes Roster Spot With Rangers

News: Signed by the Rangers in August to a one year deal, Brendan Bell has played 101 NHL games with Toronto, Phoenix and Ottawa according to Newsday
Analysis: Brendan Bell has shown some offensive ability from the backline with 21 points in 53 gamed in 2008-2009 for Ottawa. He hasn't shown the defensive consistency to stick in the NHL. He said playing in Europe re-ignited his passion for the game and gave him time to reflect on his game. Bell is competing for one of two defensemen roster spots with Michael Del Zotto, Tim Erixon, Pavel Valentenko and Tomas Kundratek. He enter camp clearly behind all the named defensemen, however the Rangers still need a power-play defensemen. If Bell can show coach John Tortorella he's not a defensive liability, he could push hard for a roster spot.

Analysis: He'll likely spend the season adding organizational depth on the blue line in the AHL for the Blueshirts.

Blues, Blue Jackets make minor trade

News: Columbus made a minor league trade on Monday as they sent winger Pascal Pelletier to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for D Brendan Bell and C Tomas Kana.
Analysis: Pelletier, 26, has three goals and 13 assists in 16 games with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch this season. The Newfoundland native played seven games for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2008-09. 26-year-old Bell has four goals and 13 assists with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen so far this campaign. The 6'1, 205-pound blueliner was a third-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. Kana, 22, has six assists in 11 games with the Alaska Aces of the ECHL. None of these players have any Fantasy value right now.

Bell assigned to Peoria (AHL)

News: The Blues assigned defenseman Brendan Bell to Peoria of the AHL. He had two assists in three preseason games.
Analysis: We were a little perplexed when Bell chose to sign with the Blues in the offseason since they had a pretty established blue line. Now, Bell has to live with his decision as he opens the year in the minors. Bell has some decent offensive skills, but still remains more of a low-end Fantasy option when up in the NHL.

Blues add D Bell

News: The St. Louis Blues have signed D Brendan Bell, who played with the Ottawa Senators last season.
Analysis: Bell should slot in on one of the top two pairings in St. Louis and will be a decent sleeper option in deeper leagues heading into the 2009-10 season. He had a career-high 21 points last campaign.

Bell could be finished with Sens

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Brendan Bell played his 100th NHL game Thursday against the Devils, but perhaps also his last as a Senator at Scotiabank Place. An Ottawa native, Bell is an unrestricted free agent come July and will be seeking to sign a one-way contract, something he didn't have this season. Bell could get it from the Senators, who may need him to keep a spot on the blue line warm for first-rounder Erik Karlsson for a year. But then, there's also a chance he could get a more lucrative offer elsewhere.
Analysis: In 51 games with the Senators, Bell has six goals and 15 assists. With teams desperate for puck-moving defensemen, he could be in demand. Bell did his best work for coach Cory Clouston, but he really has no loyalties to the Sens. Track Bell's offseason progress before taking a flier on him Draft Day 2009. He could have sleeper potential for next season.

Bell gets third straight two-pointer

News: Senators D Brendan Bell assisted twice in Saturday's win over the Islanders, giving him three straight two-point games.
Analysis: Bell has suddenly come out of nowhere with this nice streak, so don't expect it to last. He's a nice young prospect, but still a little raw to be used in Fantasy play.

Senators defensemen help out in win

News: Senators defensemen Brendan Bell, Filip Kuba and Chris Phillips all picked up two assists in Thursday's win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Bell has taken a back seat to Chris Campoli since the former Islander arrived at the trade deadline. While he remains a nice young prospect, he should probably not be used in Fantasy play right now. Kuba is now only two points behind his career high of 37. He has come down to earth after a hot start, but remains a decent low-end starting Fantasy forward in deeper formats. Phillips doesn't do enough to be anything more than a low-end Fantasy option.

Bell scores twice as Sens win

News: Senators D Brendan Bell scored twice in Tuesday's win over the Sabres. The goals were Bell's first since January.
Analysis: Bell has taken a back seat to Chris Campoli since the former Islander arrived at the trade deadline. While he remains a nice young prospect, he should probably not be used in Fantasy play right now.

Brendan Bell

Bell placed on waivers by Sens

News: The Toronto Sun reports the Senators placed D Brendan Bell on waivers Tuesday and could send him down the Binghamtom of the AHL if he clears.
Analysis: Bell was having a nice run with the Senators in early February as he was the new quarterback on the power play when coach Cory Clouston took over. But as soon as the team traded for Chris Campoli, Bell was on the outside looking in. Another team might take a flier on Bell, but he has little to no Fantasy value until further notice.

Brendan Bell

Bell misses most of third period

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Brendan Bell was benched in the third period Monday against the Predators. "That's a coach's decision," said coach Cory Clouston, who leaned heavily on D Chris Phillips and D Filip Kuba in the final 20 minutes of a 2-0 win.
Analysis: It's not like Bell has been playing poorly for Ottawa since Clouston has taken over. He has five assists in his last six games and has become a solid quarterback on the power play. Clouston is well aware of Bell's talents from their days in the AHL, so he should continue to see a fair amount of PT down the stretch. Bell has low-end Fantasy appeal at this time.

Brendan Bell

Bell playing well for new coach

News: Senators D Brendan Bell tallied a pair of assists and finished at even in 18:24 of ice time Wednesday against the Sabres. He now has four assists during a three-game point streak.
Analysis: Bell's playing time has gone up significantly since coach Cory Clouston came aboard and it's no surprise since they worked together earlier this year in the minors. Under Clouston's guidance, Bell had six goals and nine assists in 15 games for Binghamton (AHL). Bell has always struggled in the NHL, but he has shown solid offensive skills dating back to his days in junior hockey and the minors. Perhaps he is finally ready to take the next step with Clouston's help.

Bell's goal lifts Sens to win

News: Brendan Bell scored Ottawa's third power-play goal of the game with 1:22 remaining to lift the Senators to a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. Bell put a shot from the right side past Jose Theodore 18:38 into the third with five seconds remaining in a penalty to Washington's Alexander Semin. Bell has scored three times in his last five games.
Analysis: Bell remains one of the Senators' lower-end defenseman and is on the back-end of their rotation. However, he has six points in 22 games and might get a little more playing time with his recent surge. Until Bell becomes a regular player, he has little Fantasy appeal.

Bell has second goal in three games

News: Senators D Brendan Bell scored a goal during Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Bruins. Bell tied it 3 for Ottawa with 5:28 remaining in the second when he converted a pass from Dean McAmmond and beat Manny Fernandez. It was his second goal in three games.
Analysis: Bell has seen an increase in playing time over the last few weeks due to injuries along the blue line for Ottawa. He has never been a top offensive player, so despite his recent success, he has limited Fantasy appeal.

Bell has first goal since 2007

News: Brendan Bell added his first goal in six games with Ottawa in the second period during Wednesday's 5-1 win against the Thrashers. Bell scored Ottawa's second power-play goal 18:54 into the second for his first NHL goal since Jan. 20, 2007. He also added an assist and spent two minutes in the penalty box.
Analysis: The former Phoenix Coyotes is in his first season with the Senators, but hasn't played more than 10 games in the NHL in two seasons. He has pretty much been organizational depth throughout his career, so despite the big game, Bell has limited Fantasy appeal.

Senators call up Bell

News: The Senator have recalled D Brendan Bell from Binghamton (AHL).
Analysis: Bell split time last season with the Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage (AHL). In 69 games with the Rampage, he scored seven goals and added 24 assists for 31 points while recording 80 penalty minutes. He recorded no points in two games with the Coyotes. In 48 career NHL games with Toronto and Phoenix, Bell has scored one goal and added six assists while recording 27 penalty minutes. He is not a recommended Fantasy option.

Senators add Bell to organization

News: The Senators signed defenseman Brendan Bell to a one-year, two-way contract Friday. The 25-year-old Bell spent the 2007-08 season in the Phoenix organization.
Analysis: Bell split time last season with the Coyotes and the San Antonio Rampage (AHL). In 69 games with the Rampage, he scored seven goals and added 24 assists for 31 points while recording 80 penalty minutes. He recorded no points in two games with the Coyotes. Bell sent back to AHL

News: The Sports Xchange reports D Brendan Bell was reassigned to San Antonio of the AHL after Saturday's game against the Kings. He appeared in two games for the Coyotes and failed to record a point.
Analysis: Bell had led San Antonio defenseman with four goals and was second with 12 points before his recall. He is in his first year with the Coyotes after spending the last two with Toronto. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve when he is with the Coyotes.

Coyotes recall D Bell

News: Coyotes D Nick Boynton served a one-game suspension Thursday against the Sharks for instigating a fight on Monday between the teams. With Boynton suspended, the Coyotes recalled Brendan Bell from San Antonio of the American Hockey League for the first time this season. To make room for Bell, Phoenix pushed LW Josh Gratton through waivers and assigned him to San Antonio.
Analysis: Bell had led San Antonio defenseman with four goals and was second with 12 points before his recall. He is in his first year with the Coyotes after spending the last two with Toronto. He is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve while he is with the Coyotes.
