Career Likely Over For Devils' Clowe

News: General manager Lou Lamoriello acknowledged Monday that Ryane Clowe (concussion) is unlikely to play again, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports. "All indications are it's going to be very difficult for him to play the game again," Lamoriello said.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe was diagnosed with his fourth concussion in a year and a half when he took a hit to the head Nov. 6 against the Blues, costing him the remainder of the season. The 32-year-old hasn't resumed skating while he continues to await medical clearance that will probably never come. He still has three years remaining on the five-year, $24.25 million contract he inked with the Devils in the summer of 2013.

Devils Ruling Clowe Out For Season

News: General manager Lou Lamoriello announced Friday that Ryane Clowe (concussion) wouldn't play with the Devils again this season, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe joined the Devils for their road trip to Chicago on Friday, but only because the coaching staff thought the team could use another veteran voice in the locker room. It's unclear what the future might hold for Clowe, who hasn't played since Nov. 6 due to the concussion and has endured multiple head injuries over his career. The Devils will wait and see how he progresses in his recovery over the summer before determining if he'll be ready to play in 2015-16. After this season concludes, Clowe will still have three years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $4.85 million.

Devils' Clowe Traveling With Team

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) is traveling on the Devils' current road trip, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: It's unclear whether this has any significance, as Ryane Clowe has not played in a game since Nov. 6, and it was last reported that he may miss the rest of the season. His ability to travel with the team does not necessarily make him any closer to playing in games.

Devils' Clowe (Concussion) Could Be Out For Season

News: Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said Thursday that it's "very vague at this point" if Ryane Clowe (concussion) will be able to play again this season, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been sidelined since Nov. 8 with a concussion, the fourth he's sustained in less than a year and a half. He's been able to work out on the ice in recent weeks and has reported some improvement, but because of his extensive history of head injuries, it's unclear if doctors will be willing to clear him for a return to action. If Clowe fails to return this season, it's possible that his career could come to a premature end due to concerns about his long-term health.

Devils' Clowe (Head) Could Miss Extended Time

News: Coach Peter DeBoer said Ryane Clowe "is out. Maybe it looks long-term," Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has suffered multiple concussions over the course of his career, and it appears they are beginning to catch up with him. The latest is his fourth in the past two years, and his coach's suggestion that he could be out for an extended period of time doesn't bode well for his prospects. The team will likely be very careful handling his recovery and return, which looks like it could be a ways off.

Devils Place Clowe On IR

News: Ryane Clowe (head) was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, retroactive to Nov. 6.
Analysis: The Devils haven't revealed the results from the test that were ran on Ryane Clowe after he sustained a head injury last Thursday, but it seems more likely than not that the winger is dealing with a concussion. If that's the case, it would mark the fourth concussion in less than two years for Clowe, perhaps making him highly susceptible to a lengthy absence. Martin Havlat was activated from injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Devils' Clowe (Head) Won't Play Monday

News: Ryane Clowe won't play Monday against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe didn't practice Sunday and now the team has confirmed that he won't travel to Boston with the team Monday. With he and Adam Henrique (lower body) out, the team may need to make a move before the game.

Devils' Clowe (Head) Not Practicing Sunday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) didn't practice with the team Sunday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe left Thursday's game early after getting hit in the head, and the report suggests he may have suffered a concussion. His absence from Sunday's practice indicates that his status for Monday's game against the Bruins remains unclear, and the team may need to make a move if neither he, Adam Henrique (lower body) nor Michael Cammalleri (neck) are able to play Monday.

Devils' Clowe (Head) Out Friday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) will miss Friday's game against the Red Wings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe left Thursday's game in the first period and didn't return after reportedly taking a stick to the nose and chin and getting hit in the head, according to GM Lou Lamrieollo. He will miss Friday's contest at a minimum, though his status moving forward still appears to be cloudy.

Devils' Clowe Won't Return With Undisclosed Injury

News: Ryane Clowe suffered an undisclosed injury in the first period of Thursday's game against the Blues and will not return.
Analysis: The origin of Ryane Clowe's injury remains clouded, but it will cost him at least the remaining 40 minutes of Thursday's contest. The team should reveal more about the ailment in the future, and his status for Friday's game should be monitored.

So Far, So Good For Devils' Clowe

News: Ryane Clowe tallied his first goal of the season in Saturday's victory over the Panthers.
Analysis: Dogged by concussion issues over the last two seasons, Ryane Clowe had a healthy training camp and will attempt to give the Devils some return on their $19.4 million investment in him. The 32-year-old has two points in the team's first two contests, and could settle into the range of 40 to 50 points if he plays close to a full season.

Devils Clowe To Make Preseason Debut Thursday

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) will play in Thursday's exhibition game.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe missed the first portion of training camp after recovering from a concussion suffered in late March, but he returned to practice a couple weeks ago, and is now ready to make his preseason debut. Barring any unexpected symptoms over the next few days, it seems likely that Clowe will be available for the Devils' season opener.

Devils' Clowe Impressing, Yet To Play In Preseason

News: Ryane Clowe (post-concussion) is practicing, but has not yet played in any of the team's preseason games.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe continues to train with the team but has not played in a preseason game as of yet and has been impressing. "He actually looks great," said Devils goal Peter DeBoer. "He's taking contact. He will get in some games here. No setbacks, it's just there's no sense in rushing this."

Devils' Clowe Cleared For Camp

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) has been cleared for full participation in training camp, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe doesn't expect to be thrown into preseason action right away, but the fact that he'll be able to more or less fully participate in training camp has to be a relief for the Devils, who will take a $4.85 million cap hit on the forward for the next three seasons. Still, there's no guarantee Clowe can return to the 40-point per season level, especially while he remains at extreme risk for suffering another debilitating concussion.

Clowe Looks Ready For Devils Camp

News: Ryane Clower (concussion) underwent tests for post-concussion syndrome on Tuesday and should be ready for training camp.
Analysis: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello said the exams were "very positive" and expects that "everything is on track for him to be at camp." Ryane Clowe sustained several concussions last season while scattering, rather unevenly, 26 points over 43 games and expects to be in the lineup on Opening Day. Clowe will see some top-six minutes while in the lineup, but his inconsistency and propensity for injury do not make him the safest pick.

Devils' Clowe Awaiting Clearance For Camp

News: Ryane Clowe skated at the Devils' informal practice Thursday, noting he was "feeling pretty good" as he continues to recover from a season-ending concussion, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe hopes to receive clearance to return to the ice for full contact by the start of training camp, but he'll first have to visit a concussion specialist early next week before an official decision is made on his status. The 32-year-old has suffered three or four concussions over the last calendar year, which could make him more vulnerable than most to future head injuries if he returns to action too quickly. While Clowe did produce when he played last season (26 points in 43 games), the health risk he presents may make it worthwhile to steer clear of him on draft day.

Devils' Clowe Confirms Concussion

News: Ryane Clowe confirmed that he sustained his second concussion of the season following a hit to the head from the Panthers' Quinton Howden back on Mar. 31, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe didn't play the rest of the season following the concussion, the third or fourth he's sustained in less than a calendar year. The forward previously hadn't dealt with any head injuries prior to his final season in San Jose, but because of the numerous concussions he's endured over such a short period of time, there's viable concerns about his long-term health. The 2014-15 campaign will mark the second year of the five-year, $24.25 million contract he signed with the Devils last summer, a deal that already looks like a major mistake.

Devils' Clowe (Head) Likely Out Sunday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) will likely miss Sunday's contest against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been listed as day-to-day with the injury and since the Devils have no stock in Sunday's game, they will likely play it safe to prevent further injuries. Clowe will likely wait until next season to suit up again.

Devils Still Viewing Clowe As Day-To-Day

News: GM Lou Lamoriello said the team is still viewing Ryane Clowe (head) as day-to-day, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been out of the lineup since ramming his head into the boards Monday against the Panthers, but received word from doctors that he would be fine earlier in the week. The Devils will continue to gauge how Clowe is feeling during Monday's morning skate before deciding if he'll be a part of the lineup against the Flames.

Devils' Clowe Likely Out Friday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) did not participate in warmups before Friday's game against the Capitals, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello indicated that the injury isn't serious, but Ryane Clowe is set to miss a second consecutive game. The forward injured his head Monday and did not travel with the team for Tuesday's game in Buffalo.

New Jersey's Clowe Day-To-Day

News: Ryane Clowe -- who left Monday's game against the Panthers with an apparent head injury -- is considered day-to-day, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Though GM Lou Lamoriello indicated that Ryane Clowe is "fine," the winger did not travel with the team to Buffalo, where the Devils take on the Sabres on Tuesday.

Devils' Clowe Leaves Early With Head Injury

News: Ryane Clowe left Monday's game against the Panthers with an apparent head injury, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. He had a goal and two assists in the game before exiting.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe left with just under two minutes remaining in the second period, after hitting his ear on the boards. The forward missed 32 games earlier this season with a concussion, so the fear certainly exists that he could be done for the season if he's diagnosed with another. The Devils should update his condition within the next day.

Devils' Clowe: Three Points Over Last Four

News: Ryane Clowe tallied his sixth goal of the season in Thursday's shootout loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: It will probably be difficult for Ryane Clowe to ever justify the four-year, $19.4 million contract the Devils shelled out for him in the offseason, but he's at least started to pick things up in the second half after an injury-riddled start to the campaign. Clowe has 10 points in 14 games since the break, including three in his last four contests.

Devils' Clowe Picks Up Goal, Assist Saturday

News: Ryane Clowe had a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe was one of six Devils that finished with two points in a game that was every bit as lopsided as the score would suggest. Both Clowe's goal and assist surprisingly came on the power play, where just four of Clowe's 24 points had come from entering Saturday.
