Devils' Clowe Confirms Concussion

News: Ryane Clowe confirmed that he sustained his second concussion of the season following a hit to the head from the Panthers' Quinton Howden back on Mar. 31, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe didn't play the rest of the season following the concussion, the third or fourth he's sustained in less than a calendar year. The forward previously hadn't dealt with any head injuries prior to his final season in San Jose, but because of the numerous concussions he's endured over such a short period of time, there's viable concerns about his long-term health. The 2014-15 campaign will mark the second year of the five-year, $24.25 million contract he signed with the Devils last summer, a deal that already looks like a major mistake.

Devils' Clowe (Head) Likely Out Sunday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) will likely miss Sunday's contest against the Bruins, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been listed as day-to-day with the injury and since the Devils have no stock in Sunday's game, they will likely play it safe to prevent further injuries. Clowe will likely wait until next season to suit up again.

Devils Still Viewing Clowe As Day-To-Day

News: GM Lou Lamoriello said the team is still viewing Ryane Clowe (head) as day-to-day, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been out of the lineup since ramming his head into the boards Monday against the Panthers, but received word from doctors that he would be fine earlier in the week. The Devils will continue to gauge how Clowe is feeling during Monday's morning skate before deciding if he'll be a part of the lineup against the Flames.

Devils' Clowe Out Saturday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) is out for Saturday's contest against Carolina, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: The injury isn't thought to be serious, yet Ryane Clowe will miss a third consecutive game.

Devils' Clowe Likely Out Friday

News: Ryane Clowe (head) did not participate in warmups before Friday's game against the Capitals, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Devils GM Lou Lamoriello indicated that the injury isn't serious, but Ryane Clowe is set to miss a second consecutive game. The forward injured his head Monday and did not travel with the team for Tuesday's game in Buffalo.

New Jersey's Clowe Day-To-Day

News: Ryane Clowe -- who left Monday's game against the Panthers with an apparent head injury -- is considered day-to-day, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Though GM Lou Lamoriello indicated that Ryane Clowe is "fine," the winger did not travel with the team to Buffalo, where the Devils take on the Sabres on Tuesday.

Devils' Clowe Leaves Early With Head Injury

News: Ryane Clowe left Monday's game against the Panthers with an apparent head injury, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports. He had a goal and two assists in the game before exiting.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe left with just under two minutes remaining in the second period, after hitting his ear on the boards. The forward missed 32 games earlier this season with a concussion, so the fear certainly exists that he could be done for the season if he's diagnosed with another. The Devils should update his condition within the next day.

Devils' Clowe: Three Points Over Last Four

News: Ryane Clowe tallied his sixth goal of the season in Thursday's shootout loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: It will probably be difficult for Ryane Clowe to ever justify the four-year, $19.4 million contract the Devils shelled out for him in the offseason, but he's at least started to pick things up in the second half after an injury-riddled start to the campaign. Clowe has 10 points in 14 games since the break, including three in his last four contests.

Devils' Clowe Picks Up Goal, Assist Saturday

News: Ryane Clowe had a goal and assist in Saturday's win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe was one of six Devils that finished with two points in a game that was every bit as lopsided as the score would suggest. Both Clowe's goal and assist surprisingly came on the power play, where just four of Clowe's 24 points had come from entering Saturday.

Devils' Clowe Returns To Practice

News: Ryane Clowe (soreness) took part in Friday's practice, The Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe sat out Thursday due to some soreness, but his return a day later indicates his absence is not a concern. Clowe was a scoring machine in early January, but he will attempt to snap a six-game scoreless streak when the Devils return to action next week.

Devils' Clowe Misses Practice With Soreness

News: Ryane Clowe missed Thursday's practice due to general soreness, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: This isn't anything that is expected to prevent Ryane Clowe from playing in the Devils' next game Thursday vs. the Blue Jackets. Coach Pete DeBoer is just giving him some extended time off during the Olympic break.

Devils' Clowe Quiet Lately

News: Ryane Clowe has one assist in the last five games with no goals and a minus-5 rating.
Analysis: After a hugely productive stretch in early January, Ryane Clowe has cooled off. He's still seeing scoring opportunities, but New Jersey as a whole is struggling in that department. Clowe did have five shots on goal in Friday's overtime loss to Nashville and a fight at the end of Tuesday's loss to St. Louis. There's little room for his numbers to go but up.

Devils' Clowe: Two More Points

News: Ryane Clowe had two points -- a goal and an assist -- in Saturday's loss to Phoenix. The goal came on the power play. He now has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his last seven games.
Analysis: That concussion is a thing of the past. This Newf is picking up steam and there's little to do but to jump on board for the ride. See if he's on your waiver and snap him up.

Devils' Clowe Suddenly Producing

News: Ryane Clowe picked up two assists -- one of them on the power play -- went plus-1 and added two penalty minutes in Tuesday's win over Montreal.
Analysis: He's got a five-game point streak now, totaling a goal and six assists in that span, and both of Ryane Clowe's power-play points on the year have come in the last two games. After a concussion kept him sidelined from mid-October until the end of December, it appears he's finally rounding back into form.

Devils' Clowe Notches Two Points

News: Ryane Clowe scored his first goal of the season and added an assist against the Maple Leafs on Sunday.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been limited to 15 games on the season, and he only has seven points, but he has five points in his last four contests, so maybe his numbers will pick up.

Clowe On Devils' Score Sheet

News: Ryane Clowe's assist on New Jersey's first goal in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Penguins was his first point since October.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has two assists through nine games on the season, having missed most of October, December and all of November with a concussion. He's given the team a physical presence since returning to the lineup last Friday and should see more scoring chances as he continues to play himself into midseason form.

Devils' Clowe In Again Saturday

News: Ryane Clowe will be in the lineup again Saturday after skating 10:38 in his return to action Friday night, Rich Chere of the Newark Star Ledger reports.
Analysis: With a limited role at even strength Friday, the Devils appears to be easing Ryane Clowe back into action. It is a good sign, however, that he'll be playing on consecutive days fresh off of his stint on IR.

Devils' Clowe To Play Friday

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) confirmed he would be activated from IR to play Friday vs. the Blue Jackets, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: It took over two months, but it looks like Ryane Clowe is finally ready to return to action following a lengthy absence due to the concussion. Before suffering the head injury, Clowe played in just six games, scoring only one point for a struggling Devils' attack. It may take him a little bit to reestablish some rhythm, but he should provide a decent upgrade on the offensive end.

Devils' Clowe Says He's Ready To Return

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) has declared himself ready to play, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Before he can suit up, Ryane Clowe's assertion needs to be backed by the team. It seems as if the talented winger is heading for a Friday return, and he can now be considered day-to-day. The Devils come out of the Christmas break with a back-to-back, meaning that Clowe could return Saturday, if he can't go Friday.

Devils' Clowe Will Not Return Monday

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) will not play Monday against the Blackhawks, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Though Ryane Clowe will not be available Monday, coach Pete DeBoer seemed to indicate that the forward is very close to returning, but just needs some extra time to get his wind back. Look for him to return shortly after the Christmas break, which will grant Clowe three full days to recover before the Devils resume play.

Devils' Clowe Out Saturday

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) will not play Saturday vs. the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Despite the news Saturday that Damien Brunner (knee) would miss the next four weeks due to injury, coach Pete DeBoer doesn't believe Ryane Clowe is quite ready to play yet and won't rush him back into action. News on Clowe's recovery has been positive of late, so there's still a chance he could play Monday vs. the Blackhawks before the league heads into Christmas break.

Clowe Likely To Play Saturday

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) will more than likely be in the lineup Saturday when the Devils face Washington considering the injury suffered by teammate Damien Brunner (knee) in Friday's loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe has been practicing with the team but there simply wasn't a roster spot available. The odds of him playing on Saturday are high as Brunner's injury looked like more than a minor one considering he needed to be helped off the ice. Clowe has one point in six games after getting his bell rung in October.

Devils' Clowe Out Friday

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) is out for Friday's game against the Ducks but will travel with the Devils on their upcoming two-game road trip in Washington and Chicago, Tom Gulitti of the Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe returned to practice Monday but has yet to play in a game since Oct. 13. His presumed presence on the upcoming road trip indicates that he may have a shot to return Saturday in Washington or Monday in Chicago, though the Devils haven't mentioned a specific target date.

Devils' Clowe Not Confident He'll Play This Weekend

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) doesn't think he'll suit up in any games over the weekend, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Although coach Pete DeBoer hasn't ruled Ryane Clowe out for Friday, the forward believes he'll need further practice time to make up for the conditioning he lost due to his lengthy absence. Clowe was a full participant in Thursday's session, skating on the top line with Travis Zajac and Jaromir Jagr.

Devils' Clowe Close To Returning

News: Ryane Clowe (concussion) could make his return to the lineup Friday against the Ducks, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Ryane Clowe hasn't discussed a return with the coaching staff yet, but said he's close to being able to suit up again. The winger only played in six games this season, recording an assist and a minus-5 rating before suffering a concussion.
