Pens' Ehrhoff Nursing Concussion

News: Christian Ehrhoff admitted Sunday that it was a concussion that had sidelined him since March 24, NHL.com's Wes Crosby reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff appeared to be trending toward a return from the head injury during the Penguins' first-round playoff series with the Rangers, but those plans were halted after he recently endured a setback in his recovery. The blueliner has said that he suffered multiple concussions during the season, so it sounds like he'll plan on taking it easy over the summer in an attempt to the start of next season. Ehrhoff will become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Sidelined

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) did not participate in Monday's morning skate, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: While the Penguins' lineup for Monday's Game 3 against the Rangers hasn't been finalized, the report relays via coach Mike Johnston that Christian Ehrhoff "just hasn't been progressing," which suggests that the blueliner can be effectively ruled out for the contest.

Pens' Ehrhoff (Upper Body) Out Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff will not play on Saturday in Game 2 of the Penguins' playoff series against the Rangers.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff was able to participate in the Penguins' morning skate on Saturday, but still isn't quite ready to make his return to the Pens' lineup. His next chance to suit up will come on Monday.

Pens' Ehrhoff (Upper Body) Skates Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) participated in the Penguins' morning skate on Saturday, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff is still questionable to play in Game 2, but the fact that he was able to participate in the Penguin's morning skate indicates that he has a legitimate shot of returning to Pittsburgh's lineup for the second game of their series with the Rangers. The team will provide an update on his status prior to puck drop on Saturday.

Pens' Ehrhoff (Upper Body) Day-To-Day

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) remains day-to-day in advance of Game 2 against the Rangers, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Both Christian Ehrhoff and Derrick Pouliot are questionable to play in Game 2 on Saturday, as the team did not provide an update on their respective statuses Friday. Look for more information following Saturday's morning skate.

Pens' Ehrhoff Ruled Out For Game 1

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) will not play in Game 1 of the Pens' playoff series with the Rangers on Thursday.
Analysis: On a positive note, Christian Ehrhoff said that he's now in the day-to-day phase of his recovery after being cleared to take contact Tuesday. He participated in Wednesday's practice in a limited fashion, but should increase his involvement over the next couple of days. A return to the lineup for Saturday's Game 2 in New York shouldn't be ruled out.

Pens' Ehrhoff Limited In Practice

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: After being cleared for contact a day earlier, Christian Ehrhoff rejoined his mates on the ice, but didn't appear to be skating on a regular pairing. As a result, he appears doubtful to play in Thursday's playoff opener against the Rangers, though coach Mike Johnston should provide an update on that front the morning of the game. If Ehrhoff is made unavailable, Derrick Pouliot -- who is also recovering from an injury -- or AHL call-ups Brian Dumoulin and Scott Harrington could enter the lineup Thursday.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Day-To-Day

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) has been cleared for contact, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: That said, the Penguins still consider Christian Ehrhoff day-to-day as Thursday's playoff opener against the Rangers approaches. He's been able to practice with the team for the last two days without any complications.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Skates On Monday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) joined his teammates for Monday's optional practice.
Analysis: Meanwhile, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review relays that Christian Ehrhoff skated extensively Monday, but there has been no concrete update on when the blueliner might play again. The Penguins open up their playoff slate on Thursday against the Rangers.

Pens' Ehrhoff Out Friday, Doubtful For Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Islanders and is doubtful to play Saturday in Buffalo, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff took to the ice Friday morning, but was limited to skating with the Penguins' conditioning coach rather than with the rest of the team. Since Ehrhoff won't have an opportunity to take contact before Saturday's contest, it looks pretty safe to rule him out for the weekend. However, if the Penguins still haven't clinched a playoff spot by then, desperate times may call for desperate measures.

Pens' Ehrhoff To Return This Weekend?

News: Pens coach Mike Johnston said Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) might return to the lineup this weekend. "Ehrhoff is skating at home (in Pittsburgh)," Johnston said. "We like the way he's progressing. He could possibly be ready for the weekend, but I won't have any confirmation of that until Wednesday."
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff's season has bordered on catastrophic for fantasy owners. The defenseman has 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 49 contests, with only two points on the power play. Given Pittsburgh's recent spate of injuries on the blue line, however, the team will take any and all healthy bodies.

Pens Aiming To Have Ehrhoff For Playoffs

News: Coach Mike Johnston said there's a chance that Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) could be ready to play by the time the postseason begins, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff resumed skating last week, but still hasn't taken part in a full-contact session with the Penguins. It doesn't look like Ehrhoff will have the opportunity to prove himself healthy and ready to go for the Pens' final two regular-season contests, but if the team is able to secure a playoff spot, the blueliner might be an option by the time Game 1 rolls around.

Pens' Ehrhoff Ruled Out Through Tuesday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) will not travel to Ottawa for Tuesday's game against the Senators, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff has just two more chances to play before the end of the regular season, with the Penguins facing the Islanders on Friday and Sabres on Saturday. While the team would probably prefer that he get a tune-up game before the start of the playoffs, Ehrhoff may have already played his last regular-season game this year.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Ruled Out For Weekend

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) will not play in Saturday's game against the Blue Jackets nor Sunday's game against the Flyers, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: No surprise here, as the Penguins seemingly just hope to have Christian Ehrhoff back for the playoffs. It wouldn't be shocking to see the defenseman get a tune-up game or two before the end of the regular season, but expectations should remain close to non-existent.

Pens' Ehrhoff Resumes Skating Wednesday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) resumed skating on his own prior to Wednesday's optional team session, Jenn Menendez of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston said that the team would check back in on Christian Ehrhoff's status Thursday morning before deciding if he'll be able to participate in practice with the rest of the team. It's still up in the air if he'll be able to get back in the lineup before the regular season ends, but given that Ehrhoff is already skating, a return during the first round of the playoffs seems plausible.

Pens' Ehrhoff Won't Skate For A Week

News: Coach Mike Johnston said Friday that Christian Ehrhoff (upper body) won't be able to skate until next week, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Johnston wouldn't reveal the nature of Christian Ehrhoff's upper-body injury, but there's reason to think he may have suffered a recurrence of a concussion after slamming head-first into the boards in Tuesday's game against the Blues. The Penguins don't appear to have a definitive timetable for Ehrhoff's return, but if he's indeed able to skate next week, the team might shed more light on his condition. Derrick Pouliot is expected to benefit the most from Ehrhoff's absence.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Sidelined

News: According to coach Mike Johnston, Christian Ehrhoff will be out for several days with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff can be ruled out for Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, which will leave the team a player short for the contest. Though the blueliner is being listed as day-to-day, his status for the Penguins' two tilts this weekend appears murky at best.

Disastrous Season Continues For Pens' Ehrhoff

News: Pens coach Mike Johnston offered no update on Christian Ehrhoff following Tuesday's loss, but it appears as though the defenseman may have suffered another head injury.
Analysis: The 2014-15 campaign has pretty much been a nightmare scenario for the veteran blueliner. He hasn't been able to stay healthy, and when he has skated, he's put up only 14 points in 49 contests.

Pens' Ehrhoff Suffers Injury In Lineup Return

News: Christian Ehrhoff skated just two shifts before leaving Tuesday's game against the Blues after crashing into the boards, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: The bad luck continues for Christian Ehrhoff, who returned in mid-March from a long-term absence due to a concussion before an undisclosed issue quickly resurfaced and forced him out of the Pens' previous game over the weekend. That injury didn't prevent Ehrhoff from suiting up Tuesday, but he saw just 1:13 of ice time before a check from the Blues' Vladimir Tarasenko sent him to the locker room. Ehrhoff appeared to crash headfirst into the boards on the hit, which only creates more concern that he might be at risk of another concussion. The Penguins aren't providing specifics on his injury just yet, but more information should become available after the match concludes.

Pens' Ehrhoff Looks Good To Go

News: Christian Ehrhoff (undisclosed) is on the ice for pregame warmups and looks to be good to go for Tuesday's tilt with the Blues, Jenn Menendez of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: As expected, the Penguins are skating seven defensemen Tuesday, with Christian Ehrhoff set to pair up with Ben Lovejoy on the second pairing. Ehrhoff missed one game due to the undisclosed issue.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Expected To Play

News: Coach Mike Johnston expects Christian Ehrhoff (undisclosed) to play Tuesday against the Blues.
Analysis: With forwards Evgeni Malkin and Patric Hornqvist still ailing, the Penguins appear on track to dress seven defensemen and eleven forwards Tuesday night.

Pens' Ehrhoff Misses Game Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff missed Saturday's game with a "nagging injury," Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: The injury is not related to a concussion which forced Christian Ehrhoff off the ice for nearly one month. The defender skated during warmups Saturday, so the ailment probably won't keep him out of the lineup for an extended period.

Ehrhoff Back In Pens' Lineup Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (concussion) will return to the lineup Saturday afternoon against the Bruins.
Analysis: The defender has 13 points in 44 games, including just one point on the power play. The Pens will pair Christian Ehrhoff with recently-acquired Ben Lovejoy as their second unit.

Pens' Ehrhoff Takes Full Contact

News: Christian Ehrhoff (concussion) took full contact during Friday's practice.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff indicated he "felt good" following the session and has received the go-ahead from the Penguins to resume playing. He'll likely get in another skate Saturday morning, and if all goes well, he could be back in the lineup later in the evening against the Bruins.

Pens' Ehrhoff Could Return Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (concussion) will return to the lineup Saturday against the Bruins if he completes practice Friday without incident, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff has been hampered by a concussion for more than one month, ever since he fell awkwardly after a collision with the Caps' Alexander Ovechkin. The blueliner has only scored three goals and 13 points in 44 games, including just one point on the power play.
