Pens Place Ehrhoff On IR

News: Christian Ehrhoff (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: With the Penguins already ruling out the blueliner until after the Christmas break, his placement on injured reserve doesn't really qualify as much of a surprise. He won't be eligible for activation until Dec. 27, though his return could be pushed back further if he fails to progress as rapidly as the Penguins hope. Top prospect Derrick Pouliot was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in a corresponding move and could make for an intriguing replacement option for Christian Ehrhoff.

Pens' Ehrhoff Out At Least Three Games

News: Christian Ehrhoff (lower body) will miss Saturday's game against the Panthers, along with the Pens' other two games before Christmas break, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: The defenseman could miss additional time, but the organization provided no further information during Saturday's report. Christian Ehrhoff had played in all 31 games for Pittsburgh, recording two goals, 10 points and a team-best plus-15 rating. The team could look to move him to injured reserve in order to create some roster flexibility while he's out.

Penguins' Ehrhoff Out Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (lower body) appears to be out of the lineup Saturday against the Panthers, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Given that the Penguins recalled two blueliners from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday without any immediate explanation, it would seem to indicate that Christian Ehrhoff, who didn't participate in the team's morning skate, will be forced to miss his first game of the season. He could be a candidate for injured reserve if the Penguins believe his injury is more serious than a day-to-day situation.

Pens' Ehrhoff Has Lower-Body Injury

News: Coach Mike Johnston said Friday that Christian Ehrhoff was suffering from a lower-body injury and remains under evaluation, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: With the extent of Christian Ehrhoff's injury unknown at this time, the blueliner's status remains in limbo for Saturday's game against the Panthers. Brian Dumoulin would likely draw into the lineup Saturday in the event Ehrhoff is deemed unavailable.

Pens Expected To Update Ehrhoff's Status On Friday

News: Pens coach Mike Johnston expects to know more about the extent of Christian Ehrhoff's undisclosed injury after additional testing Friday morning.
Analysis: The Penguins defenseman twice collided with the Avs' Jarome Iginla, with Iginla initiating the first check and Christian Ehrhoff, the second one. The hits were both up high, making it possible that Ehrhoff is suffering from a shoulder-related ailment.

Pens' Ehrhoff Suffers Undisclosed injury

News: Christian Ehrhoff suffered an undisclosed injury in Thursday's game against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff played the entire first period but didn't return for the remainder of the game, likely indicating the issue occurred at some point during the first period. Coach Mike Johnston didn't have an update on him after the game, but Ehrhoff will be evaluated Friday, and will likely receive an update following the evaluation.

Pens' Ehrhoff Nets 2nd Game-Winner In Four Games

News: Christian Ehrhoff scored his second goal of the season with less than two minutes remaining in regulation to give the Pens a 3-2 win Saturday.
Analysis: He led Pittsburgh with a season-high seven shots on goal and also registered a pair of hits. Christian Ehrhoff remains stuck on the team's No. 2 power-play unit behind Olli Maatta and Paul Martin but saw 2:38 TOI on Pittsburgh's second unit Saturday. The defenseman now has nine points (2G, 7A) in 26 games.

Pens' Ehrhoff Practices On Top PP With Letang Out

News: Christian Ehrhoff practiced on Pittsburgh's No. 1 power-play Monday, an indication that the team will use him in that position against the Devils on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff ranks just seventh in average power-play time (1:32 TOI) on the Pens and has just one point on the man advantage in 23 contests. However, he's playing with more confidence and scored his first goal of the year Saturday. Ehrhoff will look to add to his 149 career PP points Tuesday.

Pens' Ehrhoff Scores First Goal In 46 Games

News: Christian Ehrhoff scored his first goal of the season Saturday night in Carolina, finishing plus-2 with three hits and four shots on goal.
Analysis: The goal proved to be the game-winner when the Hurricanes scored in the final minute of regulation. Christian Ehrhoff has disappointed fantasy owners with just eight points -- and only one on the power play -- in 23 games, but he does hold a team-best plus-14 rating. Olli Maatta replaced an injured Kris Letang (lower body) instead of Ehrhoff on the team's top power-play unit Saturday, limiting Ehrhoff's value to even-strength play.

Ehrhoff Showing Small Signs For Pens

News: Christian Ehrhoff collected his sixth assist of the season and finished plus-2 against the Islanders on Friday.
Analysis: The defenseman has disappointed fantasy owners in 2014-15 but has two points, 10 hits, four blocks and a plus-7 rating in his last four games. Christian Ehrhoff also registered four shots on goal Friday, so perhaps there's still hope for a fantasy turnaround.

Ehrhoff To Play Point On Second-Unit Power Play

News: Christian Ehrhoff and Paul Martin will play the points of Pittsburgh's second power-play with Olli Maatta (thyroid tumor) sidelined.
Analysis: The way the team's top unit is clicking -- the Penguins are clicking at a league-leading 41.9 percent -- Christian Ehrhoff might not see much time. Kidding aside, coach Mike Johnston has given his second unit the last 45 seconds of a two-minute man advantage and Ehrhoff figures to benefit during Maatta's absence.

Pens' Ehrhoff Finding His Game

News: Christian Ehrhoff earned his second helper -- a power-play assist -- in as many games Saturday against Buffalo.
Analysis: The ex-Sabre continues to acclimate himself with his new team. His role figures to grow with Olli Maatta expected to miss a significant portion of November. If a fantasy owner happened to drop him because of his early season slumber, then he makes for a good waiver-wire pickup.

Ehrhoff Warming Up In Pittsburgh

News: Christian Ehrhoff tallied just his third assist of the season in Pittsburgh's 3-0 blanking of Los Angeles on Thursday.
Analysis: The helper is a good sign, especially with fellow top-four defenseman Ollie Maatta headed for tumor surgery Tuesday. Christian Ehrhoff, who attempted seven shots Thursday (including missed nets and blocked shots), saw 2:55 on the power play -- second-most among Pittsburgh blueliners behind Kris Letang. He makes for a good play Saturday, when the Pens host his ex-teammates from Buffalo.

Better Days Ahead For Pens' Ehrhoff?

News: Christian Ehrhoff went pointless in Pittsburgh's 8-3 win Tuesday and has only two assists in eight games for the Pens.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff saw more power-play time (3:16) than usual Tuesday, a trend which could continue when Olli Maatta misses time while recovering from thyroid surgery -- which is scheduled for Nov. 4. From a fantasy perspective, Ehrhoff has been a bust, but that could change with an increase in power-play time.

Ehrhoff Not On Pens' Top PP Unit Thursday

News: Christian Ehrhoff is not skating as part of the Penguins' top power-play unit during Thursday's game-day skate.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff may have to wait to show what he can do on the man advantage, but the team is still working out its kinks with new head coach Mike Johnston. For now, Kris Letang is serving as the point man, with Patric Hornqvist, Chris Kunitz, Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby rounding out the No. 1 unit.

Ehrhoff Assists In Penguins Win Saturday

News: Christian Ehrhoff tallied an assist Saturday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The defenseman saw considerable time paired with Kris Letang, both at even strength and on the power play. Christian Ehrhoff makes for a fine rebound candidate in fantasy leagues, especially those which use the plus-minus category.

Ehrhoff Signs With Penguins

News: Christian Ehrhoff has signed a one-year, $4 million deal with the Penguins, NHL Network reports.
Analysis: After being bought out by Buffalo, Christian Ehrhoff will get a chance to reestablish his value on a one-year deal with the Penguins. Assuming he sees his share of power-play duty with Pittsburgh, he also figures to see a boost in his fantasy value after recording 33 points and a minus-27 rating in 79 games for the low-scoring Sabres last season.

Ehroff Appears Not Long For Buffalo

News: The Sabres have initiated a compliance buyout of Christian Ehrhoff's contract, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Analysis: The Sabres are in full rebuild mode and Christian Ehrhoff hasn't been coming anywhere close to producing (33 points and a minus-27 rating in 79 games last season) at a rate worthy of his 10-year, $40-million deal. The team previously decided to use its other, non-compliance buyout on an even more disappointing Ville Leino. The only trick will be meeting the league's salary floor, as the Sabres were nowhere near it even before the two buyouts. General manager Tim Murray isn't worried about reaching the floor at the moment. Remember that Dale Tallon's Panthers were far away from the cap floor as well just three years ago.

Ehrhoff's 33 Points Tops Among Sabres Defensemen

News: Christian Ehrhoff scored six goals and 33 points in 2013-14, statistically his best season with the Sabres to date.
Analysis: Since signing a massive 10-year, $40 million contract with the Sabres, Christian Ehrhoff has managed to score just 19 goals over three seasons. After posting three consecutive 30-assist seasons with San Jose and Vancouver, Ehrhoff has put up just 27, 17 and 27 assists in his three campaigns with Buffalo. It's clear that the German defenseman isn't good enough to spearhead a team's offensive attack and missed having the quality of forwards he enjoyed with his two previous teams. The Sabres are rebuilding and still deciding on Ehrhoff's future. If he's not part of the team's plan, the expectation is that he will be bought out this summer, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Sabres' Ehrhof Will Miss Sunday With Concussion

News: Christian Ehrhoff suffered a mild concussion in Saturday's game and will miss the Sabres' season finale Sunday.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff will finish the season with six goals and 27 assists. The eight-year veteran will look to continue a successful career next season.

Sabres' Ehrhoff Good To Go

News: Christian Ehrhoff (head) will play Tuesday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff, who took a puck to his right ear Sunday against the Flyers, ended up taking about 40 stitches as a result, but he'll be out there Tuesday for the Sabres, nonetheless.

Sabres' Ehrhoff: Game-Time Decision Tuesday

News: Christian Ehrhoff (head) will be a game-time decision Tuesday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff took a puck to the right ear Sunday against the Flyers, requiring 40 stitches to repair a gash. While he was fortunate to avoid a concussion, his ear may still be a little sensitive to the touch of a helmet. We'll probably have to wait until pregame warmups to find out his status for Tuesday night's contest.

Sabres' Ehrhoff Hit By Puck

News: Christian Ehrhoff took a puck to the side of his head in Sunday's loss to the Flyers and had to leave the contest, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Coach Ted Nolan thinks the injury might be somewhat serious, so consider Christian Ehrhoff a very risky proposition for the final period of weekly leagues. The Sabres remain a MASH unit, and as the NHL's worst team, the season can't end soon enough.

Sabres' Ehrhoff Submits No-Trade List

News: Christian Ehrhoff has listed eight teams he will not accept trade to, as per terms of his contract, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: It's "part of the business," according to Christian Ehrhoff, and the Sabres' request for a list comes as no surprise as the team prepares to hold a fire sale. The Sabres signed Ehrhoff for $40 million in 2011, but the results have been lackluster. A talented puck-moving defenseman, there will be plenty of teams after Ehrhoff's services. The Sabres want fair value in return, which may impede negotiations, but the smart money is on Ehrhoff leaving Buffalo. His fantasy value takes a boost if he figures into his new team's power play strategy. Stay tuned.

Ehrhoff's Two Goals Carry Sabres

News: Christian Ehrhoff opened and closed the scoring Tuesday against Carolina, notching the game's first goal as well as the game-winner in a 3-2 triumph.
Analysis: Christian Ehrhoff scored on the power play for the first time all season in the first period, and he's now totaled eight points in his last eight games as he showcases his talent for a potential trade out of Buffalo.
