News:Ray Emery (lower body) is expected to return for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals, the Daily Herald's Tim Sassone reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery, who will serve as the backup to Corey Crawford once he returns, missed the entire first round of the playoffs. It sounds like he should be back for Game 1 in the second round.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) won't be available Thursday against the Wild, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery is close to a return, however, but with fellow goalie Corey Crawford having helped the Hawks open up a 3-1 lead in their playoff series against the Wild, the Hawks will play it safe with Emery on Thursday.
Blackhawks' Emery (Lower Body) Doubtful For Game 5
News:Ray Emery is doubtful for Thursday's Game 5 against Minnesota.
Analysis: It sounds like Henrik Karlsson will continue to serve as Corey Crawford's backup.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) will not be available Tuesday against the Wild, Tracey Meyers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery practiced Monday, but it will be up to Henrik Karlsson to back up Corey Crawford again in Game 3 on Tuesday in Minnesota.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) practiced with the team Monday, Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald reports.
Analysis: It looks like Ray Emery will be available to play against the Wild on Tuesday, but don't expect him to get the start. Corey Crawford has been solid in the first three games of the series, and there's no reason to throw Emery out there right after an injury.
Hawks' Emery Skates Sunday, Out Game 3, Uncertain Game 4
News:Ray Emery, who will miss Game 3 against the Wild on Sunday because of a lower-body injury, skated Sunday and Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he was uncertain about Game 4, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: There does not seem to be much of a hurry to get Ray Emery suited up. The Blackhawks seem to be in good shape with Corey Crawford in goal and a 2-0 lead over the Wild. An injury to Crawford, should that happen, would hurry the Blackhawks to get Emery back with inexperienced Henrik Karlsson as the current backup for Crawford.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) has been ruled out for Sunday's Game 3 against Minnesota.
Analysis: Henrik Karlsson will back up Corey Crawford on Sunday, while Ray Emery has not been ruled out for Game 4. He skated Saturday and should be nearing a return.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) won't play Friday against the Wild, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: That said, Ray Emery will likely travel with the Hawks to Minnesota on Saturday, where Games 3 and 4 of the team's playoff series will be held. With Emery still sidelined, Henrik Karlsson is in line to continue to back up Corey Crawford on Friday.
Hawks' Emery (Lower Body) Not Expected Back Friday
News:Ray Emery (lower body) is not expected to be back Friday although Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville did not definitely say that he would be suited up for Game 2 against the Wild, Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Without Ray Emery it hurts the Blackhawks' depth at goalie with an inexperienced Henrik Karlsson backing up Corey Crawford. It does give Quenneville an out because Emery had outplayed Crawford during the regular season. The Blackhawks though were still going to give Crawford the better chance to start in the playoffs.
Blackhawks' Emery (Lower Body) Ruled Out For Game 1
News:Ray Emery (lower body) will be out for Tuesday's playoff opener, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery missed the final two games of the regular season due to the lower-body injury. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) did not practice Monday, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: It's unclear whether or not Ray Emery has a shot to suit up Tuesday against the Wild, but his absence from Monday's practice reinforces that Corey Crawford is the Chicago goalie to target in playoff pools.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) will miss Friday and Saturday's season finale, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Corey Crawford will start in net Friday and the Blackhawks will likely defer the start to Carter Hutton on Saturday in Ray Emery's absence. The Blackhawks are leaning on the safe side here as the top seed in the Western Conference is locked up, and will sit Emery for the team's final two games. The injury doesn't seem to be overly serious, as he should be ready to go for the postseason.
News:Ray Emery (lower body) did not particpate in Friday morning's skate,
ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: It's hard to see the Blackhawks running Ray Emery out on Friday and possibly Saturday, the final two regular-season games with the team already clinching everything including the President's Trophy. Emery left Wednesday's game, but Blackhawks' coach Joel Quenneville said Thursday that his injury was not serious. The injury could mean that the Blackhawks go with Corey Crawford to start the playoffs.
Injury Not Considered Serious For Blackhawks' Emery
News: Coach Joel Quenneville said Thursday that Ray Emery's lower body injury was "not serious," CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: In any case, expect the Blackhawks to go with Corey Crawford in goal over the final two games to preserve Ray Emery's health for the playoffs. The 30-year-old Emery has posted a gaudy 17-1-0 record this season to go along with a .922 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery left during the first period of the Blackhawks' 4-1 win over the Oilers with an apparent lower body injury.
Analysis:Ray Emery allowed one goal on eight shots before leaving, but more importantly could miss some more time with this reoccurring injury. Corey Crawford will take over goaltending duties if Emery can't go, but don't be surprised if Carter Hutton gets a start in one of the back-to-back games the Hawks have to end the regular season.
News:Ray Emery will start in goal for the Hawks on Wednesday against the Oilers, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: This is good news for Ray Emery owners, since Chicago plays back-to-back games to end the season -- Friday against the Flames and Saturday against the Blues -- and Emery will probably get the start in one of those as well. Emery does not have a good track record against the Oilers although it has only been four games against Edmonton. He has a .779 save percentage and a 6.67 goals against average versus the Oilers in his career including allowing five goals in two games this season.
News:Ray Emery (lower leg) will back up Corey Crawford on Monday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Even though Ray Emery won't start, the fact that he's available means he'll probably get at least one more start before the playoffs begin. With Emery's record this season now at a ridiculous 16-1-0, that start likely means another win.
News: Coach Joel Quenneville said Friday that Ray Emery, who is dealing with a lower-body injury, will be out again when the Blackhawks take on the Coyotes on Saturday, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: The Blackhawks have first place in the West long locked up, so there's no need to rush Ray Emery back. Carter Hutton will likely back up Corey Crawford on Saturday, unless the Blackhawks decide to go off the board and give Hutton an audition.
News:Ray Emery is dealing with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: As a result, he won't be available to suit up Friday against the Preds, with Carter Hutton having been recalled from AHL Rockford to serve in a backup capacity while Ray Emery is sidelined.
News:Ray Emery (unspecified reason) was not present for Thursday's practice, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: It's unclear whether or not there is an injury in play here, but in any case, the Blackhawks have recalled fellow goalie Carter Hutton from AHL Rockford.
News:Ray Emery was the first goaltender off the ice in Monday's practice and is expected to start Monday's game against the Stars, Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: With Corey Crawford getting the start Sunday night, Ray Emery is expected to start the back end of the doubleheader Monday. Emery will look to continue the success he had in his last start, a 20-save shutout against the Wild.
News:Ray Emery made 16 saves on 18 shots in a win over the Stars on Monday.
Analysis:Ray Emery is now 16-1-0 on the season, and he is in the top 10 in both save percentage and GAA. However, Corey Crawford has been equally impressive, and likely will remain the starter, leaving Emery a spot start option.
News:Ray Emery will start Monday's game against the Stars, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: He'll get the nod Monday, after Corey Crawford drew the assignment in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Blues.
News:Ray Emery will be backing up Corey Crawford again on Sunday against the Blues, but you could expect Emery back between the pipes on Monday against the Stars, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: With the Blackhawks already in the playoffs, coach Joel Quenneville still needs to decide the goalie he will go with in the postseason. There are eight games including Sunday's game and you could see the two goalies splitting time before the playoffs. In addition to Monday's game, there are two more instances of back-to-back scenarios for the team. Ray Emery is 2-2 in his career against Dallas with a .901 save percentage and a 2.76 goals against average.
News:Ray Emery will start Tuesday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: It will be the third straight start for Ray Emery, whose record now stands at 14-1 after back-to-back wins this past weekend.
News:Ray Emery made 19 saves on 22 shots in a win over the Predators on Sunday.
Analysis:Ray Emery got the chance to start back-to-back games against Nashville thanks in part to blanking the Preds on Saturday. This game wasn't as good, but he is still now 14-1-0 on the season.
News:Ray Emery is slated to start Sunday's game against the Predators, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery, who stopped all 20 shots he faced in Saturday's 1-0 win over Nashville on Saturday, will get another chance in short order to thwart the Preds on Sunday, this time at home.
News:Ray Emery stopped all 20 shots he faced to shut out the Predators on Saturday afternoon.
Analysis: The win improved Ray Emery's record to 13-1 for the season as he continues to deliver strong ratios (.923 save percentage, 1.95 GAA) while backing up Corey Crawford. Emery could see a decent amount of playing time down the stretch if the Hawks opt to rest up Crawford a bit more in anticipation of a long playoff run.
News:Ray Emery will start Saturday against the Predators, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: With the start Saturday, it is expected that Corey Crawford will start Sunday in a back-to-back scenario. A quality outing on Saturday for Ray Emery would allow more time in goal for him. He is 12-1-0 on the season with a .919 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average. He has not had much success against Nashville although the sample is small. He has had two starts against the Predators and is 0-2 with a 5.44 goals against average and .750 save percentage
News:Ray Emery is expected to start Saturday against the Predators, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: If he does start, it would be the first minutes in a little more than a week for Ray Emery. And if Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville opts to go with Crawford on Saturday, there is no doubt that he will have Emery in goal against Nashville on Sunday in a back-to-back scenario. A quality outing on Saturday for Emery would allow more time in goal for him. He is 12-1-0 on the season with a .919 save percentage and a 2.09 goals against average. He has not had much success against Nashville although the sample is small. He has had two starts against the Predators and is 0-2 with a 5.44 goals against average and .750 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery allowed two goals on 24 shots in Friday's loss to Anaheim.
Analysis:Ray Emery did enough to keep Chicago in the game, allowing just two goals against one of the NHL's top teams. He's been a solid option for owners as Emery sees a few starts every handful of games as part of the Hawks' goalie tandem with Corey Crawford. Look for Emery's solid numbers to continue whenever he plays.
News:Ray Emery will start Friday's game against the Ducks, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery, who blanked the Flames on Tuesday, will get a crack Thursday at an Anaheim squad that has now dropped four straight contests.
News:Ray Emery improved to 12-0-0 on the year Tuesday with a 16-save shutout win over the Flames.
Analysis:Ray Emery's been the league's best backup, but this was his first shutout in his 13 starts this season. He certainly makes the 'Hawks feel comfortable with resting Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery will start Tuesday's game against the Flames, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: As expected, with Corey Crawford having started Monday's 5-4 loss to the Kings. Ray Emery's record stands at 11-0-0 in 14 games (including 12 starts) to date.
News:Ray Emery is on track to start Tuesday's game against the Flames, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery getting the nod Tuesday on the second leg of the Hawks' back-to-back set of games would not be a real surprise, given that Corey Crawford started Monday's 5-4 loss to the Kings.
News:Ray Emery stopped 17 shots in Monday's win over Colorado.
Analysis: With the victory Monday, Ray Emery is now sitting at 11-0-0 as he continues to impress for the 'Hawks after returning from a potentially career-ending hip injury a year ago. As long as he continues to play well, Emery should see a start every three or four games in relief of Corey Crawford now that Crawford is healthy.
News:Ray Emery will start Monday's game against the Avs, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: The start will be the 12th of the season for Ray Emery, whose record is a sparking 10-0-0, while working behind the NHL's top team. The Avs, meanwhile, have dropped three straight contests.
News:Ray Emery let in three goals on nine shots against the Oilers on Sunday. He only played 9:19 before getting pulled.
Analysis:Ray Emery wasn't likely to continue his pace from the beginning of the season, but he's going to usually do better than this as well. This is just an off night.
News:Ray Emery will start Sunday's game against the Oilers.
Analysis: The Hawks finally lost in regulation time on Friday, but Ray Emery still sports a 10-0-0 record to go along with a 2.05 GAA and .924 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery was called in for the third period Friday night in the Blackhawks' first regulation loss of the season, a 6-2 decision against the Avalanche.
Analysis:Ray Emery only gave up one goal on 12 shots in the third period. Hawks top goalie Corey Crawford gave up five goals on 19 shots on goal. Despite entering in relief, Emery is still the backup goalie, but more outings by Crawford similar to this would allow Emery more starts.
News:Ray Emery set an NHL record in Wednesday night's win over Colorado with the most consecutive victories at the start of the season for a goalie by going 10-0-0, Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery has revived his career since coming to the West Side of Chicago in the last two years. Since signing with the Hawks before the 2011-12 season, he has a sparkling 17-0-3 record at the United Center. Picking him up as a waiver wire or deep in the draft was a wise choice, but he is still the back-up to Corey Crawford, who is expected to start on Friday against Colorado.
News:Ray Emery made 20 saves in Wednesday's 3-2 win over Colorado.
Analysis: The victory improved Ray Emery to 10-0-0 on the season, while his turnaround in Chicago over the last 18 months after returning to the NHL from avascular necrosis -- the same hip disease that ended the NFL career of Bo Jackson.
News:Ray Emery will start in net Wednesday against the Avalanche.
Analysis:Ray Emery has been better than advertised this season, and still has yet to lose a game. Emery is 9-0-0 with a .926 save percentage and 2.02 goals against average heading into the game against the Avalanche. His career mark against Colorado is 1-1-0 in three games with a 4.84 goals against average and .850 save percentage. With the condensed schedule this season, Emery has been regularly taking one of the back-to-back games and is still considered the backup to Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery raised his record to 9-0-0 on Friday as the Blackhawks added to their winning streak with a 4-3 victory over the Blue Jackets in overtime.
Analysis: Despite getting the win Ray Emery did not have his best showing as he gave up three goals while making 19 saves. On the other hand, most felt that Columbus outplayed the Blackhawks and in turn Emery was the named the game's third star. In addition, Emery was in goal for five of the last six periods as Corey Crawford left Friday's game after suffering an upper-body injury. The Blackhawks play Detroit on Sunday, but the team is expected to go with Crawford in net.
News:Ray Emery will start Friday's game against the Blue Jackets, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery played two periods in relief of an injured Corey Crawford (upper body) Thursday, and will remain in the lineup Friday night. Crawford was able to skate Friday despite exiting Thursday's game early; so it seems likely that, after playing nearly two full games in two nights, Emery will get a rest when Chicago takes on Detroit on Sunday.
News:Ray Emery made 15 saves in relief of Corey Crawford, who left after the first period with an upper-body injury, as the Blackhawks shut out the Blues, 3-0, on Thursday night.
Analysis: While Ray Emery was in goal for two periods, the NHL gave Crawford the victory. Crawford is considered day-to-day, but the Blackhawks have a quick turnaround, as they play Friday against the Blue Jackets. Emery should be considered the favorite to start that one.
News:Ray Emery replaced Crawford (undisclosed injury) in goal for the Blackhawks to start the second period against the Blues on Thursday.
Analysis: Depending on the severity of Crawford's injury, Ray Emery could see more ice time especially with the Blackhawks' next game tomorrow night, Friday, against the Blue Jackets. Coming into the tilt against the Blues, Emery was 8-0-0 on the season with a .927 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench Thursday night as the Blackhawks go back to Corey Crawford against the Blues, according to ESPN Chicago.
Analysis:Ray Emery could get the start Friday at home against the Blue Jackets as part of another back-to-back scenario. He collected the victory Monday in the Blackhawks' 3-2 victory as part of that back-to-back scenario. He made 19 saves while giving up a pair of goals. Emery is still the Blackhawks' backup goalie despite being 8-0-0 on the season with a .927 save percentage and a 2.08 goals against average. Crawford would have to develop an injury or go into a prolonged slump for Emery to get a larger role. The condensed schedule this season though has helped Emery get a larger share of the playing time than he might have received otherwise.
News:Ray Emery made 17 saves on 19 shots for an overtime win against the Oilers on Monday.
Analysis: Not only is Ray Emery ranked in the top 10 in both save percentage and GAA, he has also picked up a win in all eight of his games played. The Blackhawks, and their netminders, are red hot this season.
News:Ray Emery will start Monday's game against the Oilers.
Analysis: Pretty much any chance you can get to start a Chicago goalie these days, you're doing so, especially on a night with just six NHL games. The team is still yet to see its first regulation loss after 18 games.
News:Ray Emery will take a seat on the bench on Sunday as the Blackhawks go with Corey Crawford in goal, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery could be back in goal on Monday against Edmonton as part of a back-to-back scenario. Emery has been in goal for the past four games with Crawford injured. While Emery has been excellent in goal with a 7-0-0 mark and a .930 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average, Crawford is still currently considered the Blackhawks' number one goalie. Crawford would have to go into a slump or be injured for Emery to see extensive playing time.
News:Ray Emery won his seventh start of the season on Friday, stopping 26 shots in a 2-1 victory over San Jose.
Analysis:Ray Emery has been outstanding while filling in for the injured Corey Crawford and is making a serious case to claim the starting job in Chicago outright even with Crawford back in the fold. Chicago is 13-0-3 to start the season and Emery has been a boon for owners that snagged him. Play him with confidence.
News: Coach Joel Quenneville said that Ray Emery will start Friday's game against the Sharks.
Analysis: Corey Crawford is progressing, but Ray Emery will have a chance Friday to extend his winning streak to start the season (working behind the 13-0-3 Hawks) to seven games.
News:Ray Emery stopped 29 of 32 through regulation and OT, then stoned two of three shootout attempts to earn the win Tuesday against Vancouver.
Analysis: While Corey Crawford's received many of the plaudits, Ray Emery's quietly won all six of his outings this season, making his bid to be this year's Brian Elliott. Corey Crawford (upper body) may miss some more time yet, so Emery's got some short-term fantasy utility.
News:Ray Emery will start Tuesday's game against the Canucks, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery, who has won all five of his starts to date, will get another turn while Corey Crawford continues to recover from his upper-body injury.
News:Ray Emery saved 25 of the 27 shots sent his way in the Blackhawks' 3-2 victory over the Kings on Sunday.
Analysis:Ray Emery is 5-0-0 on the season and has been in goal in back-to-back games as Corey Crawford recovers from what the team says is an upper-body injury, though some are saying he has a concussion. Concussions are tricky so Crawford might not be ready for the Blackhawks' next game on Tuesday at home against the Canucks. Emery has only started one game against Vancouver and it was a loss. He has a 1.75 goals against average against the Canucks in two games.
News:Ray Emery will start Sunday's game against the Kings, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Corey Crawford (upper body) will miss another game, although he's still classified as day-to-day and could return to action fairly soon. Ray Emery was fantastic against the Sharks on Friday night, stopping 27 of the 28 shots sent his way.
News:Ray Emery raised his mark to 4-0-0 on the season by saving 27 of 28 shots in the Blackhawks' 4-1 victory over the Sharks on Friday night.
Analysis: The Sharks have had a tough time scoring recently, but a win is a win and Ray Emery has been golden in backing up Corey Crawford. He has a 2.21 goals against average and a .930 save percentage this season. Emery started for Crawford who is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and might be called on to start again on Sunday against the Kings. Depending on the seriousness of Crawford's injury, Emery could be a good pickup and is probably a good one anyway in deeper leagues. The Blackhawks went to Emery last season for a spell when Crawford was inconsistent and came through. Emery has only started twice against the Kings in his career and is 1-0-0 with one overtime loss, a 1.10 goals against average and .964 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery will be in goal Friday against San Jose.
Analysis:Ray Emery will get his fourth start of the season, spelling No. 1 goalie Corey Crawford. So far, Emery is 3-0 with a 2.59 GAA and a 92.0 save percentage, making him a decent streaming option.
News:Ray Emery saved 22 of 24 shots in the Blackhawks' 6-2 victory over the Coyotes on Thursday night.
Analysis:Ray Emery raised its record to 3-0 on the season and had a relatively easy night. The Blackhawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period when Emery faced only four shots. Phoenix only had two power plays for the entire night compared to Chicago's seven. Emery is still the backup to Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery will start Thursday's game against the Coyotes, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: It will be the third start of the season for Ray Emery, who was sharp in earning a 3-2 decision in Saturday's win over the Flames.
News:Ray Emery was on fire in goal against the Flames as he saved a career-high 45 shots in the Blackhawks' 3-2 shootout victory on Saturday night.
Analysis:Ray Emery raised his record this season to 2-0 as he also saved all three shots in the shootout. He was basically standing on his head as the Hawks were outshot 47-19 in the game including 24-6 in the third period. Emery still remains the backup goalie, but his performance could give him an additional start here or there instead of just on the back end of back-to-back scenarios.
News:Ray Emery will be in goal Saturday night against the Flames in the back end of a back-to-back, the Blackhawks' website reports.
Analysis: With the condensed schedule, Ray Emery is expected to get all back-to-back scenarios and there are 10 more this season. Emery won his sole start this season, 6-4, in Phoenix on Jan. 20. He has seven starts against the Flames and is 4-2 with one overtime loss. His goals against average is 1.57 and he carries a .939 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery "could" start in goal Saturday against the Flames, according to coach Joel Quenneville.
Analysis: Corey Crawford is making his sixth start of the season Friday, but it sounds like Quenneville is thinking of giving him a rest Saturday, though he seemed non-committal about the situation. If Crawford says he's good to go again Saturday, it's possible Ray Emery rides the pine.
News:Ray Emery made 25 saves on 29 shots in a win over the Coyotes on Sunday.
Analysis:Ray Emery got the start because Corey Crawford started on Saturday, and a performance like this isn't likely to earn him many additional starts, but it is still early.
News:Ray Emery will start Sunday's game against the Coyotes, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: With Chicago playing on back-to-back days, Ray Emery will get the nod Sunday after Corey Crawford backstopped the team to a 5-2 win over the Kings on Saturday.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench for the season opener on Saturday against the Kings.
Analysis: The Blackhawks will be going extensively with Corey Crawford, but Ray Emery saw plenty of time last season as Crawford stumbled. In addition, Emery should probably see more time even if Crawford excels with the condensed schedule this season that includes 12 back-to-back games.
News:Ray Emery might be in line for his first playoff action as a Blackhawk on Saturday, ESPN-AM 1000 in Chicago reports.
Analysis: Blackhawks' coach Joel Quenneville did not commit to Corey Crawford on Friday so Ray Emery could be in the nets for the team's pivotal Game 5 against the Coyotes. Crawford has not played poorly, but has let in some soft goals in overtime in both Game 3 and Game 4.
News:Ray Emery has agreed to a one-year extension with Chicago, Blackhawks.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Assuming nothing changes, Ray Emery will likely return as Chicago's second goalie option in 2012.
News:Ray Emery gave up four goals on 30 shots in a shootout loss to Minnesota on Sunday.
Analysis:Ray Emery has become an afterthought in net for the Blackhawks, and while Chicago has clinched a playoff berth, it is quite possible Corey Crawford will start the rest of Chicago's games. Even if Emery starts, he is a less-than-stellar option.
News:Ray Emery will start in goal Sunday against Minnesota, Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com reports.
Analysis: The 29-year-old missed Tuesday's game, and was on the bench for Thursday's contest. The Blackhawks' number one goalie has gone 15-9-3 this season with a 2.77 GAA. Though he hasn't been dominant, Ray Emery will take on a Wild team Sunday that has scored the fewest goals in the NHL this season.
News:Ray Emery (upper body) is expected to be on the bench on Thursday night against the Blues as the Blackhawks sent goalie Carter Hutton back to Rockford of the AHL.
Analysis:Ray Emery is expected to back-up Corey Crawford against St. Louis. Emery missed the game against New Jersey after coming in relief for Crawford in the 6-1 loss on Sunday, allowing two goals on nine shots. For the rest of the regular schedule, the Blackhawks are targeting giving Crawford most of the starts, but the way the team's season is going that is not a given.
News:Ray Emery (upper body) did not travel with the Blackhawks for Tuesday's game against New Jersey, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis: Consider Ray Emery day-to-day beyond Tuesday.
News:Ray Emery came in for a struggling Corey Crawford on Sunday against Nashville. He played 17:53 and let in two goals on nine shots.
Analysis:Ray Emery has not been playing much recently, though on the season his numbers are comparable to Crawford's. Right now, Crawford is the starter, but as has been the case most of the season, that hardly seems too secure.
News:Ray Emery (illness) missed practice on Thursday because of the flu, but it is expected that he will be on the bench as the Hawks go with Corey Crawford on Friday against the Stars, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery was pulled on Tuesday after giving up three first-period goals against the Blues. He started six games in a row including the Blues game. Right now, the goalie spot is up in the air and Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville is going to go with the hot hand. Both Emery and Crawford have been given ample shots to grab the starting spot full-time, but both have fumbled it away.
News:Ray Emery was pulled from the game Tuesday after giving up three first-period goals against the Blues.
Analysis:Ray Emery had started six games in a row including this one, but Tuesday's performance might halt that string. Corey Crawford came in and didn't allow a goal the rest of the way.
News:Ray Emery will start against St. Louis on Tuesday, ChicagoBlackhaws.com reports.
Analysis: St. Louis is among the toughest opponents in the league, but at least Ray Emery faces them at home, where the Blackhawks are 23-7-5.
News:Ray Emery only let in two goals on 29 shots Sunday against Los Angeles, but took the loss in a shootout.
Analysis:Ray Emery has started five games in a row, and has played well enough that he may continue to get the majority of the starts down the stretch for the Blackhawks.
News:Ray Emery will make his fifth consecutive start Sunday against the Kings, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery is 4-2-0 in his last six appearances and looks to have locked up the role of starting netminder in Chicago for the time being. He remains a risky fantasy play given the Blackhawks' defensive woes, but he should continue to see the majority of starts over Corey Crawford down the stretch and into the playoffs.
News:Ray Emery will start against the Rangers on Friday, ESPN Chicago's Jesse Rogers reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery has been feast or famine all year, and his five-goal loss to St. Louis on Tuesday may indicate the start of another famine. Even if it doesn't, the Rangers' 42-16-7 record is enough reason to look elsewhere Friday if possible.
News:Ray Emery was torched for five goals on 31 shots in Tuesday's loss to the Blues.
Analysis: Just when any little run of success has you thinking that Ray Emery might be a starting NHL goalie, he always reminds you that no, no he is not. He'd won three straight coming into Tuesday. Emery's got some fantasy value as a goalie who gets starts, but the quality of those starts is too inconsistent for him to be relied upon regularly.
News:Ray Emery will start against St. Louis on Tuesday, CSN Chicago's Tracey Myers reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery has been razor-sharp over this last three starts, stopping all but three of 74 shots, but St. Louis' home record of 26-4-4 means a regression to the mean could be in store for Emery.
News:Ray Emery only let in one goal on 24 shots Sunday against Detroit, picking up his third straight win.
Analysis:Ray Emery has only let in one goal in his last three starts, and he has a .909 save percentage and 2.58 GAA in 28 games played this season.
News:Ray Emery will start his second game in a row on Sunday against the Red Wings, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery came in relief for Corey Crawford on Wednesday to gain the win in the 5-4 victory over Toronto. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville is going for whatever hot hand he can find in goal. This obviously is a big test for Emery, who has won both starts against the Red Wings in his career with a 2.23 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery will start Friday's game against Ottawa, Tracy Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery was sharp in relief of Corey Crawford on Wednesday, stopping 23 of 24 shots in two periods worth of action. He should have no problem getting motivated for the game, as he will be facing the team that he played with from 2002-03 through 2007-08.
News:Ray Emery made 35 saves on 38 shots Sunday against Anaheim, but was on the losing end of things. He's now 11-8-2 on the season.
Analysis:Ray Emery has suffered a loss in his last four starts, and his save percentage is .903 and his GAA is 2.76 in 25 games this season. Corey Crawford has struggled a bit lately, but Emery hasn't really seized the opportunity.
News:Ray Emery is expected to be in goal against the Ducks on Sunday night after coming in relief Saturday in the loss to the Kings, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Analysis:Ray Emery did not give up a goal in the 33 minutes in relief for Corey Crawford on Saturday night. While Crawford was pulled Saturday, coach Joel Quenneville would probably have gone with Emery anyway since it is a back-to-back scenario. While Crawford is still the number one guy, a quality performance against the Ducks would definitely give Emery more starts. Emery only has two starts against the Ducks in his career, including this season's victory and only giving up one goal while making 24 saves.
News:Ray Emery made only 16 saves in the loss to the Predators on Tuesday night, and will be on the bench on Thursday against the Rangers, ESPN AM 1000 in Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery gave up three goals, but the game-winner was not necessarily his fault as Ryan Ellis's goal was deflected off of the Blackhawks' Duncan Keith and went by Emery. In the battle between Emery and Corey Crawford, who gets the start against the Rangers, Crawford will get the edge because he was considered the number one at the start of the year. Right now, the club just wants one of them to get hot and end the eight-game losing streak.
News:Ray Emery will be between the pipes for the Blackhawks Tuesday when they take on the Predators, according to Tim Sassone of The Daily Herald.
Analysis:Ray Emery has a chance to earn more playing time with the continued struggles of Corey Crawford. However, Emery is winless in five straight outings and he has allowed at least three goals in each of his last four outings.
Emery Yields Three Tallies As Hapless Blackhawks Fall
News:Ray Emery surrendered three goals on 27 shots as the Blackhawks were shut out at Phoenix on Saturday night.
Analysis: He isn't playing awfully, but the Hawks are. Until the team turns around its current eight-game skid, you should start someone else.
News:Ray Emery is expected to get the start in goal for the Blackhawks on Saturday against the Coyotes, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Analysis: This is a back-to-back scenario with Corey Crawford getting the nod Friday in the loss to the Sharks. In his last start, Ray Emery gave up four goals in the 5-2 loss to the Avalanche on Tuesday. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville is just looking to find a hot goalie between the two. The current losing streak has not been totally the fault of Emery and Crawford as the Hawks' defense has played poorly especially during the current road trip.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench on Friday night as the Blackhawks go with Corey Crawford in goal against the Sharks, according to ESPN Chicago.
Analysis: The starting goalie slot is still up in the air, but Crawford will probably get the nod against Ray Emery if the two are about even. In the two games Emery started, he allowed seven goals and made 53 saves. There is the possibility that the team trades for a goalie, but the Hawks will most likely trade for a defenseman or a physical forward than a goalie.
News:Ray Emery is expected to start in goal on Tuesday against Colorado, according to Chicago Tribune.
Analysis: This will be two starts in a row for Ray Emery. He started on Friday in the 3-1 loss to the Flames and saved 29 of 32 shots. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said that he is going with the hot hand, but admitted that Emery has not had as much of a shot as Corey Crawford has to get starts. "In Ray's situation, he hasn't had a great chance to run with it," Quenneville said. "Corey has had a lot of key games here recently. We'll see how it plays out."
News:Ray Emery came in the third period against the Oilers on Thursday after Corey Crawford was pulled in the 8-4 loss, and is expected to start against the Flames on Friday.
Analysis:Ray Emery did as well as Crawford, but he was coming in cold giving up three goals and making 13 saves. If he does start Friday, it could be an audition to grab more starts since Crawford has lost four games in a row.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench Tuesday night against Nashville despite coming on in relief for Corey Crawford on Saturday in the 5-2 loss to the Predators, according to ESPN Chicago.
Analysis:Ray Emery gave up a goal and made five saves in relief against the Predators on Saturday night. For Emery to see major minutes and starts, Crawford will have to have a few poor performances. Good as he's been, Emery is still the backup goalie.
Hawks' Defense And Emery Stifle Florida Friday Night
News:Ray Emery stopped 18 of 19 shots Friday night in the 3-1 victory over Florida.
Analysis:Ray Emery has been solid all year for the Blackhawks as he pushed his record to 11-3-2 on the season. Almost every team in the NHL would love to have the kind of numbers Emery is putting up, yet he is only a backup in Chicago. As Emery's solid play continues he is sure to gain lots of attention this offseason when he becomes a free agent.
News:Ray Emery will start in net Friday against Florida, the Blackhawks' official site reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery, who will be making his 15th start of the season Friday -- compared to Corey Crawford's 33 -- and third this month, is a tidy 10-3-2 to date.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench on Sunday night as the Blackhawks go with Corey Crawford in goal against the Sharks, Tim Sassone of the Daily Herald reports.
Analysis: Lately, Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville has alternated between Ray Emery and Crawford on back-to-back games. With Crawford in goal against the Red Wings on Saturday, this would have been Emery's spot. Crawford though, played well in goal against Detroit and Quenneville is rewarding Crawford, the team's number one goalie, with the start against the Sharks.
News:Ray Emery will get the start in goal on Thursday against the Wild, according to Blackhawks' official website.
Analysis:Ray Emery should see a start once in a while but Corey Crawford still is the No. 1 goalie. The only switch would come if Crawford has a couple of terrible outings. The recent Hawks' woes have not been the fault of the goaltending. Emery defeated the Wild earlier in the season and has a 2.88 goals against average and .920 save percentage in two games against the Wild in his career.
News:Ray Emery made 41 saves Thursday against the Flyers, but allowed five goals in the loss, including James van Riemsdyk's tiebreaker with 33 seconds left in regulation.
Analysis: This was only Ray Emery's third regulation loss of the year. He's a decent backup on a good team, which gives him a little fantasy value in deeper formats.
News:Ray Emery will get the start in goal Thursday against the Flyers, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: With the 'Hawks in line to play on consecutive days, look for Corey Crawford to play Friday against the Avalanche.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench for the fifth straight as the Blackhawks go to Corey Crawford on Monday against the Oilers, according to Chicago Tribune.
Analysis: The Blackhawks' management is firmly in the camp for Crawford. For Ray Emery to get another run of starts, Crawford would have to have a couple of bad games in a row.
News:Ray Emery will be on the bench for the second straight game Monday as the Blackhawks go with Corey Crawford in goal against the Blue Jackets, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: This is still fluid as to the number one goalie as coach Joel Quenneville goes with the hot hand. Crawford played well in the win over Montreal last Wednesday in the team's last game. While the Blackhawks face the Kings on Wednesday night, the number one goalie, at this time, might be determined until Friday night since the Hawks host the Red Wings, the first of eight against their rivals.
News:Ray Emery will be in goal against the Penguins on Tuesday night for the sixth straight game, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery has won all five of his starts since taking over for Corey Crawford. He's expected to take a seat on Wednesday night, when the Blackhawks are expected to go to Crawford against Montreal in the second of back-to-backs.
News:Ray Emery turned aside 22 of the 24 shots he faced Sunday in a win over Calgary, his ninth of the season in 13 games.
Analysis: With Corey Crawford struggling, the Blackhawks turned to Ray Emery, and he's paid off big time with strong performances and wins. If there is a Chicago goalie you want, it's Emery.
News:Ray Emery will start Sunday against the Flames, according to Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune.
Analysis:Ray Emery has won all five starts since taking over from Corey Crawford as the Hawks' starting goalie earlier this month, with a GAA of 1.93 and save percentage of .933. Nobody expected Emery to see many starts behind Crawford this season after signing with Chicago in the summer, but it appears he's the main man between the pipes for now. Take advantage of the situation for as long as it lasts.
News:Ray Emery won his fourth straight start and stopped 24 shots in the Blackhawks' 4-1 victory over the Ducks on Friday.
Analysis:Ray Emery defeated his former team and was also named the number one star. He has grabbed the starting job when Corey Crawford struggled and has ran with it. Emery is 8-1-2 this season with a .909 save percentage and a 2.54 goals against average. He should be in goal on Sunday against the Flames.
News:Ray Emery will make it four straight starts Friday for the Blackhawks, this time against the Ducks, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: In the three previous starts, the Blackhawks have won. Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville will go with Ray Emery until he loses and possibly gets hammered before going back to Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery stopped both shooters he faced in the shootout as Chicago got by Minnesota 4-3 Wednesday. It was his third straight win.
Analysis: He stopped 27 of 30 shots he faced during regulation and has now gone six straight appearances without allowing more than three goals since he surrendered seven against Edmonton on Nov. 19.
News:Ray Emery will start Wednesday against the Wild, his third straight start for the Blackhawks, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Head coach Joel Quenneville is definitely going with the hot hand, as Ray Emery has won the last two games. "There are always plans, but when a goalie gets a chance to get the net, you don't disrupt it, you let him go," Quenneville said. "You give him some confidence by putting him back in the net. He's giving us what we're looking for." Right now, Emery is the guy, but Quenneville could easily go back to Corey Crawford, so this is still fluid. Overall, Emery is 6-1-2 and recently raised his save percentage to .905.
News:Ray Emery made 35 saves on 37 shots to pick up an overtime win against San Jose on Sunday.
Analysis: With Corey Crawford struggling, Ray Emery has already made three starts and one relief appearance in December. His numbers on the season still aren't good, as he has a .905 save percentage and a 2.69 GAA, but people who spot start goalies will want to pay close attention to the situation in Chicago.
News:Ray Emery will start against the Sharks on Sunday, Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Thanks to the quality of the club skating in front of him, Ray Emery is 5-1-2 in eight starts this season despite a 2.80 GAA and .898 save percentage. Given the tough matchup against San Jose, we advise caution in deploying him Sunday.
News:Ray Emery made 31 saves on 33 shots in Thursday's overtime win against the Islanders.
Analysis: He's been a little spotty in his role as Corey Crawford's backup, but Ray Emery is still 6-1-2 in eight starts and 10 appearances overall, which is as much as you can ask from a backup.
News:Ray Emery will be between the pipes Thursday against the Islanders, Tracy Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery stepped in for Corey Crawford on Monday and did a fine job, parrying all 11 shots that came his way. Even with the shootout loss, Chicago liked what they saw in Emery.
News:Ray Emery came in for Corey Crawford on Monday against Phoenix. He stopped all 11 shots he faced, but took the loss in a shootout.
Analysis: Right now, Crawford is the man in Chicago, but if Crawford struggles, it could mean more starts for Ray Emery.
News:Ray Emery delivered 23 saves on his way to a 5-2 win over St. Louis on Saturday night.
Analysis: He doesn't get a lot of action behind Corey Crawford and he won't barring a catastrophe. But he was solid Saturday and appears to have rebounded from a few high-scoring losses in November.
News:Ray Emery will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Blues, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery has not started since giving up seven goals in 48 minutes in a loss to the Oilers on Nov. 19. While the Blues are not a high-scoring team, Emery will have to be on top of his game if he hopes to pick up a victory against a team giving up just 1.97 goals per game.
News:Ray Emery suffered through a "personally embarrassing" night Saturday as the Blackhawks got walloped for the second night in a row, losing at Edmonton, 9-2. He yielded seven goals on 27 shots (.747) in 47:32 of crease time.
Analysis: Hockey players just have to rebound from nightmares like this; the real pros have a good sense of selective amnesia. We think he'll be okay.
News:Ray Emery is expected to be in goal on Saturday night against the Oilers, Jesse Rogers of ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Not much of a surprise with back-to-back games and Calgary Friday night. Ray Emery has played well in a fill-in role and will see starts in back-to-back scenarios at least for the first half of the season.
News:Ray Emery saved 24 of the 25 shots that he faced as the Blackhawks defeated Calgary, 4-1, on Friday night.
Analysis:Ray Emery is 3-0-1 on the season with a 2.70 goals against average and a .905 save percentage. For at least the first half of the season, Emery will get the back-to-back scenarios, especially against weaker teams like the Flames. Corey Crawford will continue to get the majority of the starts in goal.
News: The probable starter in net for the Blackhawks on Friday is Ray Emery, according to Chicago Tribune.
Analysis:Ray Emery has only appeared in three games this season, and while he is 2-0-1, his .890 save percentage tells the story. In four career outings against tonight's opponent, the Flames, Emery is 2-1-1 with a .950 save percentage.
News:Ray Emery gave up five goals Friday night on 32 shots versus the Lightning.
Analysis: The loss was the first of the season thus far for Ray Emery. It's not like Emery was the starter in Chicago as he currently is playing second fiddle to teammate Corey Crawford, but the effort tonight will likely keep him second in line.
News:Ray Emery will get the tap on the pads Friday against Tampa Bay, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Analysis: Starter Corey Crawford was a busy man in Thursday's shootout victory, and with another game coming up Sunday, the Blackhawks will spread out the load a little bit.
News:Ray Emery made the most of his second start opportunity of the season Saturday, stopping 27 Columbus shots as Chicago won, 5-2.
Analysis: He's just spelling Corey Crawford, of course; but a 1.000 winning percentage will give the coaching staff the confidence to use him whenever Crawford needs the night off.
News:Ray Emery is expected to be in goal on Saturday against the Blue Jackets, ESPN-AM 1000 in Chicago reports.
Analysis: Saturday marks the second of three games in a four-day period for the Blackhawks. This would be the second start of the season for Ray Emery. In his first start he started out slowly in the first period, but rebounded to be the winning goalie in a 4-3 victory over the Jets on Oct. 13. This could be a good opportunity since Columbus has sputtered to start the year.
News:Ray Emery won in his season debut Thursday against Winnipeg, stopping 27 of 30 shots.
Analysis:Ray Emery seems like he's been around the league forever, but he's actually still just 29 years old -- not exactly a washed-up veteran. He'll see a relatively small share of action as Corey Crawford's backup, though.
News:Ray Emery will start in goal against Jets for the Blackhawks on Thursday night, ESPN 1000 in Chicago reports.
Analysis: Blackhawks starting goalie Corey Crawford missed a couple of practices this week, but was back Wednesday. Crawford admitted he was a little dinged up during the two games last weekend against the Stars. The Blackhawks are probably just being cautious since there is a long way to go this season. Ray Emery missed practice with the flu on Wednesday, but was back Thursday.
News:Ray Emery is day-to-day with a case of the flu, the Blackhawks' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: Alexander Salak was recalled Wednesday and could be forced into action Thursday if Corey Crawford has a setback with his groin injury.
News:Ray Emery won the battle of backup goalies in Chicago and was given a one-year deal Monday, USA Today reports.
Analysis: Alexander Salak, who was competing with Ray Emery for the job, was back to the AHL. Emery should be in line for 20-25 starts as the backup behind starter Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery is believed to be close to a one-year deal with Chicago, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: If that happens, Alexander Salak will be sent back to the AHL, while Ray Emery would be in line for 20-25 starts as the backup behind starter Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery did not help his cause in gaining the backup goalie job on Friday night by giving up three goals against the Penguins, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery gave up the three goals on 18 shots including one after a bad turnover when coming out of his net. He failed to make the big save in what turned out to be a close game, a 4-2 loss to the Penguins. The backup race with Alexander Salak might go down to the last cutoff day before the opener on Friday against the Stars.
News:Ray Emery will start Friday night's preseason game against the Penguins, which will most likely determine the backup goalie to Corey Crawford, Daily Herald reports.
Analysis: According to reports, the battle between Ray Emery and Alexander Salak is too close to call. Salak came into the preseason as the favorite, but Emery has some experience. Salak was solid on Sunday against the Red Wings in a 4-3 shootout loss, but Emery has experience. "We've watched them daily here," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "Organizationally we'll have that decision to make, but we like what (Emery) brings and what he's capable of doing. He's got some experience as well, so we'll see."
Blackhawks' Emery Outplayed By Rookie In Preseason Game
News:Ray Emery allowed four goals on 19 shots in relief of Alexander Salak in Thursday's preseason loss to Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Salak had stopped all eight he faced. Ray Emery was behind the eight ball to begin with in this battle for Chicago's backup goalie job, and he certainly can't have improved his fortunes with this outing.
News:Ray Emery will split time with Alexander Salak in goal for Tuesday night's preseason opener against the Oilers, Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis:Ray Emery is considered the underdog against Salak so he will have to outplay him in the preseason as the second goalie behind Corey Crawford.
News:Ray Emery is determined to win the back-up role in Chicago over rookie Alexander Salak, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Analysis: "I'm really comfortable that they have the best intentions for their club in mind when they're making decisions like that [back-up goalie]," Ray Emery said. "I feel like I can do a lot better than I have in the past." The Hawks love Salak's potential but their number one guy, Corey Crawford, enters the season as a sophomore. Emery has more experience and would provide veteran strength but he still has to win the job. He has fully recovered from avascular necrosis, the same hip disease that ended Bo Jackson's NFL career.
News: Emery will attend training camp with the Blackhawks on a tryout basis, reports TSN.ca.
Analysis: Chicago will have until Oct. 1 to sign him or release him. He performed well late in last season for the Ducks when Jonas Hiller went down; he went 7-2-0 with a 2.28 GAA and .926 save percentage in the regular season and 2-3 in the quackers' first-round playoff loss to the Preds. He enters Chicago's camp to compete for the role of back-up so his fantasy value will be limited.
News: Emery (lower body) stopped 31 shots in a 5-3 win over the Predators on Friday night.
Analysis: It was his first playoff start in four years, but Emery was sharp as his resurgence with the Ducks continues. The series is tied heading back to Nashville, and it looks like an opening round matchup that has a very good chance of taking the full seven games to settle.
If Needed, Ducks' Emery Declares Himself Fit For Game 2
News: Emery (lower body) believes that he's fit to start Game 2 Friday night if given the assignment, according to the Orange County Register.
Analysis: Emery, who returned to action after missing a week due to his ailment, could very well draw the start after relieving goalie Dan Ellis who allowed all four goals in 24 shots in Game 1 Wednesday night. Head coach Randy Carlyle said, "I would say Ray Emery is pretty much close (to) 100 percent."
News: Emery (lower body) saw action in Wednesday's Game 1 loss to Nashville.
Analysis: The local news later said Emery is still not 100 percent, but the Ducks needed to do something after Dan Ellis gave up four goals in a costly home loss. Emery stopped all six shots, so we're guessing the team might feel more comfortable going with a less-than-100-percent Emery than Ellis for Game 2.
News: Emery (lower-body injury) is still not 100 percent, NHL.com reports. "I've been gradually feeling better but not quite where I can contribute or not re-injure myself," Emery said after Monday's skate.
Analysis: With Jonas Hiller still not 100 percent either, the signs point to Dan Ellis starting in goal against Nashville on Wednesday.
News: Emery (lower body) has not started since April 6, the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Dan Ellis has started the Ducks' last two games and he could factor into the playoff equation if Emery's issue lingers. Emery's injury, which isn't believed to be serious, is not related to the offseason hip surgery that forced him to miss the first four months of the season, the Press-Telegram reports.
News: Emery (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Friday's game against the Kings, the Ducks' official site reports.
Analysis: The 10 PM ET start makes sticking with Emery on Friday risky, especially for owners who have goalie games played maximization issues.
News: Coach Randy Carlyle described the issue that forced Emery out of Wednesday's game as a lower body injury, the Ducks' official site reports.
Analysis: Without being specific about Emery's injury, Carlyle seemed to hint that it's not a major issue. "It's a lower body injury. The trainer said he had some tightness," Carlyle said. "We took a precautionary type of attitude towards it."
News: Emery is expected to start Wednesday against San Jose, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Since recording six consecutive wins in his return to the NHL last month, Emery has posted two consecutive losses to open the month of April. Wednesday will be another tough test for him as the Sharks are ranked first in the Pacific division and second overall in the Western Conference. Make sure you have exhausted all other fantasy goalie possibilities before rolling with Emery on Wednesday.
News: Emery left Wednesday's win over the Sharks with what was being described as a "minor injury," the LA Times reports.
Analysis: Given all the problems Jonas Hiller has had, any sort of injury news regarding Emery takes on greater significance. Emery was cleared to return, but with the game pretty much in hand, the Ducks had Dan Ellis finish off the game.
News: Emery let up four goals on 35 shots Monday against the Avalanche, but still picked up the win.
Analysis: Emery has yet to lose since returning to the NHL, and has a .938 SV% to this point. This has gone from being a feel-good story to a potential fantasy goldmine. If you need help in net, he's worth picking up.
News: Emery is expected to be in net for the Ducks on Monday against the Avalanche, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Emery has won four of his last five starts, recording a .952 save percentage and 1.39 GAA over that span. The Ducks will likely ride his hot hand as far as he'll take them as their playoff push continues.
News: Emery and not Jonas Hiller got the start Saturday night in Chicago, and he got the win while stopping 27 shots.
Analysis: Hiller struggled in his return from the injured list earlier this week. Should the Ducks reach the postseason, their goalie picture will be muddled.
News: Emery stopped 23 of 26 shots Wednesday night in a 4-3 overtime victory over the Stars.
Analysis: He now has three wins in as many starts for the Ducks. Emery has seemingly risen from the dead in Anaheim, but he'll likely have to play second fiddle to No. 1 goalie Jonas Hiller who was just activated from the injury list Wednesday.
News: Emery is undefeated in two starts in an Anaheim sweater after posting a terrific 2-1 win over Los Angeles on Saturday night. He turned aside 31 shots to claim the win.
Analysis: Based on the small sample size (these two starts, plus one period of mop-up duty a week ago), his composite numbers are world-class -- 0.86, .972. Temper your enthusiasm if those numerals get your blood racing; he isn't going to keep putting up numbers like that. But as long as his play sparkles, he'll steal more starts, since the rest of the Anaheim goaltending staff is either unavailable or ineffective.
News: Emery stopped 30-of-31 shots in Wednedsay's 2-1 victory over St. Louis.
Analysis: The win pushed Anaheim back into the No. 8 spot in the Western Conference standings. Dan Ellis has played generally well in March (4-2-0, 2.59 GAA), but Emery could squeeze a few more starts out of head coach Randy Carlyle if he's able to play like this in his limited opportunities.
News: Emery took the ice in an NHL game for the first time since February 1, 2010 in relief of Dan Ellis against the Coyotes on Sunday. He stopped all nine shots he faced.
Analysis: Is Emery going to have any fantasy value this season? No, but it's still nice to see him back on the ice after his terrible hip injury. It's a tremendous achievement for Emery just to play in the NHL again.
News: The Ducks recalled Emery from AHL Syracuse on Monday, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Emery has been outstanding in two games since being sent down, stopping 40 of 41 shots on Saturday and 27 of 28 starts on Monday. With Dan Ellis needing a break at some point, Emery could start Wednesday against the Rangers.
News: Emery was assigned to the AHL on Saturday, Hockey Night In Canada's Jeff Marek reports.
Analysis: The Ducks didn't end up needing to turn to Emery, and now they can go ahead with the more ideal plan of sending him back to the minors for a bit more refining.
News: Anaheim recalled Emery from the AHL on Wednesday, AnaheimDucks.com reports.
Analysis: It's not clear what the specifics are with Anaheim's plan, but Emery presumably still has some rust to shake off before he's thrown back into the fire. Curtis McElhinney's struggles could lead to playing time at the NHL level sooner than expected while Jonas Hiller battles an apparent case of vertigo.
News: Emery (hip) cleared waivers and will report to the AHL, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Emery will now get a chance to show whether he can play in his attempt to recover from his hip issue from last year. His best-case scenario seems to be one where he impresses Anaheim to the point that he gains consideration for the team's backup spot later in the year.
News: Emery has signed a two-way deal with the Ducks, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: He'll have to remain on an NHL roster if he's claimed, so the Ducks have a reasonably good chance of keeping him in their organization to rehab before calling him up later on this season as a potential backup to Jonas Hiller. Barring a claim from another club, Emery will report to Syracuse (AHL) to continue his return bid.
News: Emery (hip) may sign with Anaheim in the next week, according to a report on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada. He will have to clear waivers.
Analysis: It's an interesting angle as the Ducks' twine-tending stud, Jonas Hiller, missed Saturday's game with exhaustion. If healthy, Emery could effectively spell Hiller and keep him fresh.
News: Emery (hip) is hoping for an opportunity to return this season, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Rehabbing back from his hip surgery, Emery appears to be at the point most players are at around the end of the summer. He may not get a chance to play in the NHL this season, but he could get time in the AHL and ultimately prove he's healthy enough to get a longer look during training camp leading into the 2011-12 campaign.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Flyers G Ray Emery will require a bone graft on his hip and is out for the season.
Analysis: The rumors have been flying for weeks now that Emery was done for the season, and now it's official. He is likely also done in Philly and maybe in the NHL, but we'll just have to see how he recovers from this surgery. Drop Emery immediately in all Fantasy formats. With Emery finished, Michael Leighton becomes the concrete No. 1 the rest of the way barring a trade. However, he will have to play well to keep Brian Boucher from stealing starts. Consider Leighton and the Flyers TG both No. 2 Fantasy options, while Boucher is nothing more than a No. 3 in deeper leagues for now.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Flyers G Ray Emery (hip) didn't skate over the break.
Analysis: Emery's season could well be over, but he's still worth stashing away in most formats for the time being. Meanwhile, Michael Leighton will continue to get the majority of starts for the Flyers, with Brian Boucher getting the odd outing here and there. The Flyers play four times in Fantasy Week 20 (March 1-7) with favorable matchups against the Panthers, Lightning and Maple Leafs. Use Leighton as a solid No. 2 Fantasy goalie for the scoring period, while the Flyers TG is also a reliable secondary option.
News:The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi, who is the chief of sports medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital and used to work for the Flyers, said if goalie Ray Emery does have a torn hip labrum -- as the team is hinting -- then "it's fixable but career-threatening" situation. "Any injury to a joint is potentially a career-challenging injury," Bartolozzi said. "It can affect your timing, your speed, your agility." The Flyers have yet to reveal what the MRI exam on Emery's injured left hip produced. Instead, they have shut him down for three weeks and hope to avoid surgery until after the season. Michael Leighton and Brian Boucher are playing in Emery's absence.
Analysis: Bartolozzi said that if Emery's labrum is torn, playing after his three-week rest "unlikely will make it worse." However, he also speculated that surgery could happen before the end of the season, if Emery's condition doesn't improve. Former Flyers goalie Robert Esche had hip surgery on his labrum after the 2003-04 season, and after the lockout year his performance dropped dramatically in the two seasons that followed. Esche is now playing in Russia, where Emery was last season in the KHL. Although this report doesn't come from the Flyers, it does sound as though Emery, who will be an unrestricted free agent, has a battle on his hands. He is kind of a risky Fantasy option the rest of the way since it doesn't appear he will be 100 percent. The Flyers are sure glad they didn't act quickly when Emery returned from an abdominal issue in January and kept Leighton and Boucher. Leighton is likely to do most of the work in Emery's absence, but there are rumors that Philadelphia would like to trade for a goalie, targeting Florida's Tomas Vokoun.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Flyers G Ray Emery (hip) will miss three weeks as a precautionary measure.
Analysis: Luckily for Fantasy owners, two of those weeks will be during the Olympic break, so Emery could conceivably return to action during the first week of March. Stash him away in all formats and just cross your fingers that this hip injury isn't something that derails his Fantasy value down the stretch. Michael Leighton will fill for Emery and is worth a look in all 12-team leagues. The Flyers TG remains a No. 2 option for now.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that, two days after an MRI on his hip, there is still no word on the prognosis for Flyers G Ray Emery, who missed a fourth straight game on Wednesday against the Devils.
Analysis: The longer Fantasy owners remain in the dark about Emery's situation, the more they'll be worried that this hip issue is particularly serious. Continue to bench him in all formats until after the Olympic break at this point and keep your fingers crossed. Hopefully, we'll hear something concrete about this situation before the weekend. Emery is a No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that, according to a source, Flyers G Emery might have a torn hip labrum that could require surgery. Results of Emery's recent MRI have not yet been made available.
Analysis: Emery came out of the gate on fire this season, but then had to undergo abdominal surgery in December. This hip issue may have been contributing to that problem or vice versa, and it's not looking good for Emery's prospects the rest of this season. He did skate for an hour on Monday, but didn't push it. Stay tuned to this developing situation, as we might hear more concrete news about Emery's prognosis later on Tuesday.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery missed a third straight game on Monday against the Devils because of a hip injury. NHL.com reports Emery did skate for more than an hour on Monday, and coach Peter Laviolette said after practice that Emery felt "good."
Analysis: Michael Leighton was in net during Monday's 3-2 win and has played well again in Emery's absence. We are sure that will allow Philly to preach patience with Emery, who missed significant time with an abdominal injury. Emery is a viable No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy, so keep tabs on his progress.
News: Flyers G Michael Leighton will start in goal on Monday vs. the Devils.
Analysis: There hasn't been word on whether Ray Emery (hip) or Brian Boucher will back Leighton up on Monday, but both are clearly not worth risking in Fantasy Week 19 (Feb. 8-14) at this point. Leighton's play has been spotty of late and will face both the Devils and Canadiens twice in the scoring period, but he's probably still worth a shot in deeper leagues as a potential sleeper No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option for now.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery sat out Saturday's loss to the Wild with a hip issue. GM Paul Holmgren said Emery would be re-evaluated Monday.
Analysis: Emery didn't dress on Wednesday, but the Flyers didn't say the former Senator was injured. Now he's clearly a risky injury start for Fantasy Week 19 (Feb. 8-14). The Flyers do play four times in the scoring period, so he could get a couple of starts if healthy. Keep an eye on his status heading into Monday's lineup deadline as he can be a viable low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 option when healthy.
News: The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Flyers G Ray Emery, who has made eight straight starts, will not dress for Wednesday's game at Edmonton. Michael Leighton will start, with Brian Boucher serving as the backup.
Analysis: Emery has been heavily used since returning from abdominal surgery, and the Flyers are clearly just taking advantage of the fact they currently have three goalies on their roster. He will get another couple of days to rest before Philly plays the Wild on Saturday, so hopefully Emery will be OK to make that his second start of the week after his shutout win on Monday. Leighton remains just a handcuff for Emery owners for now, while Boucher is clearly the odd man out at the moment and shouldn't be owned outside of the deepest of two-goalie leagues. The Flyers TG is a high-end No. 2 option.
News:Mike Richards scored twice and Ray Emery made 18 saves for his third shutout of the season as the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the new-look Calgary Flames 3-0 on Monday night. Emery didn't need to make more than eight saves in any period. He has two shutouts in his last six outings.
Analysis: Emery has five wins since returning from abdominal surgery in mid-January. He has allowed more than three goals only twice in eight starts in that span as well. No matter how well Michael Leighton played in his absence, Philly likes Emery in net. He remains a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery made 31 saves Saturday in a 2-1 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: Emery only went 1-1 in Fantasy Week 17 (Jan. 25-31), but he's back to being the clear No. 1 in Philly. His schedule for next week is pretty favorable, although all three games at Calgary, Edmonton and Minnesota are on the road. With those first two opponents struggling so mightily though, Emery looks like a great sleeper low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie start for the upcoming scoring period. The Flyers TG will also be an advisable start.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery made 24 saves during a 4-3 loss to the Thrashers on Thursday. He actually held a 3-1 lead heading into the third before a late-game collapse. Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 31st goal just 29 seconds into the third to cut it to 3-2. He picked up a loose puck off a faceoff and shot one over Emery, who was sprawled on the ice. A few minutes later, Rich Peverley slipped by the defense, took a long pass from Pavel Kubina and scored a breakaway goal to tie it at 3. Then Evander Kane skated down the left side, went around the net and placed a perfect pass on Jim Slater's stick. Slater slipped it in for a 4-3 lead with 6:32.
Analysis: Emery has lost his last two starts after reeling off three straight wins. We would say his job is in jeopardy since Michael Leighton is still in town, but Philadelphia is really committed to Emery as its top netminder. Through good and bad, treat Emery as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery couldn't make it four wins in a row Sunday as Philadelphia fell 2-1 to the Penguins. Emery made 20 saves.
Analysis: Emery is back as the concrete No. 1 goalie in Philadelphia and hopefully he can continue to reclaim the form he showed earlier this season before he got hurt. Unfortunately, the Flyers only play twice in Fantasy Week 17 (Jan. 25-31), so you might want to look elsewhere in smaller leagues. The Flyers TG is a low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 option when the team plays three or more times in a scoring period.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery won his third straight start Saturday as Philadelphia defeated the Hurricanes 4-2. Emery made 33 saves.
Analysis: Emery is looking like the Fantasy goalie who began the season in such hot fashion before getting hurt. If Philly were playing more than just two games in Fantasy Week 17 (Jan. 25-31), Emery would be a solid low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy option, but his lack of games in the upcoming scoring period make him a low-end No. 2 choice in deeper leagues. The Flyers TG will go as Emery goes for the foreseeable future.
News:Ray Emery made 24 saves for his second shutout of the season, and James van Riemsdyk and Mike Richards scored in the Philadelphia Flyers' 2-0 victory over the New York Rangers 2-0 on Thursday night. Making his third straight start since returning from abdominal surgery, Emery cooled off a team that had scored 14 goals in consecutive wins. Emery has 10 career shutouts. His previous one was against Carolina in Philadelphia's season opener.
Analysis: Emery has won two straight starts and is beginning to look like the netminder that stormed out of the game with six wins in his first 10 appearances. Michael Leighton did a nice job of holding down the fort for Emery, but Philly inked the troubled netminder in the offseason to be its top goalie. Emery hasn't had any blowups in 2009-10 and has emerged as a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Philadelphia G Ray Emery was given a nice cushion on Tuesday against the Blue Jackets. Emery's teammates scored five times, including three in the 2nd period, as he cruised for the 5-3 victory. Emery stopped 25 of the 28 shots he faced for the win.
Analysis: Emery made his second consecutive start and second in January as he's finally back from an extended injury absence. Emery gave up five goals in his previous start at Washington but was solid on Tuesday. His record improves to 12-9-1 on the year. Only use Emery in deeper leagues if your alternative option isn't very appealing for now but he could gain value if he begins to play consistently. The Flyers TG remains a No. 2 choice.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery, making his first start since returning from an abdominal injury, allowed five goals on only 22 shots in a 5-3 loss to the Capitals on Sunday.
Analysis: You have to wonder why Flyers management brought Emery back against one of the league's best teams, but what's done is done. Now, we must look to Fantasy Week 16 (Jan. 18-24), during which the Flyers play four times, with back-to-back games over the weekend. Emery will likely lose at least one or two of those starts to Michael Leighton, and Brian Boucher might also get a look. Only use Emery in deeper leagues if your alternative option isn't very appealing. The Flyers TG remains a No. 2 choice.
News: Philadelphia G Ray Emery (abdomen) has been activated off IR by the Flyers on Tuesday night before the team's game against Dallas. Emery did not get the start, however, as Michael Leighton was in net for the game. Emery, who has been out since being yanked on Dec. 5 and having surgery a few days later, backed Leighton up in the Tuesday game.
Analysis: Pay special attention to how the Flyers decide to use their goalies in the coming days. Leighton could remain the team's starter until Emery gets his feet wet again and that could make Emery a tough start over the next few scoring periods. He's certainly a bit of a risky start for the upcoming scoring period, but owners in deeper leagues could surely do worse than give him a shot.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery has returned to the team following a one-game conditioning stint in the AHL.
Analysis: Emery isn't expected to be activated until Tuesday or Wednesday and will be a very risky start for Fantasy Week 15 (Jan. 11-17), as we have no idea how many games he will play in, if any. Plus, Michael Leighton is playing so well that the Flyers might just want to leave him in net.
News: The Flyers' official Twitter feed reports that G Michael Leighton will start Tuesday vs. the Stars.
Analysis: The Flyers have three games in Fantasy Week 15 (Jan. 11-17), with none of them back-to-back, and Leighton could be in line to get at least a couple of those starts. However, Ray Emery is back in Philly and is expected to be activated on either Tuesday or Wednesday. If Leighton continues his hot play on Monday though, you have to think the Flyers will continue to roll with him. He's certainly a bit of a risky start for the upcoming scoring period, but owners in deeper leagues could surely do worse than give him a shot. The Flyers TG remains a No. 2 Fantasy option for now.
News: The Flyers have sent G Ray Emery to the AHL on a brief conditioning stint. He made 12 saves on Saturday night for the Philadelphia Phantoms in a 2-1 loss.
Analysis: Emery is supposed to be back with the Flyers on Sunday, so he might well be worth a shot in Fantasy Week 15 (Jan. 11-17) if you're in a deeper league and need goalie help badly. Most other owners should just wait until he's back getting the majority of starts in Philly, which might not happen right away.
News: The Flyers' official Web site reports that G Ray Emery (abdomen) could be back later this week. Ray looks like his explosiveness is back, and Im looking for good news today, said GM Paul Holmgren. Hes getting close. I think it would be a stretch to say hed be ready for the next game (at home Wednesday vs. Toronto), but hes getting close."
Analysis: Emery has been out of action since being yanked on Dec. 5 and having surgery a few days later. Michael Leighton has been playing very well since he was brought in, but Emery had some great spells earlier this season and the Flyers will probably be expecting him to carry a heavy workload the rest of the way. Don't start Emery in Fantasy Week 14 (Jan. 4-10), but he could well return during the scoring period and will be worth a shot in the majority of leagues once he's back between the pipes. The Flyers TG is more of a No. 2 option for the time being.
News: NHL.com reports Flyers goalie Ray Emery faced shots in practice on Monday for the first time since he had abdominal surgery on Dec. 8. "I'm still a little sore and working things out, but I had a chance to go out on the ice today," Emery said. "It felt better than I thought it would so it's kind of a gradual thing." However, both Emery and coach Peter Laviolette cautioned that the injured goalie is not close to returning. "I was on the ice four or five days ago, but I didn't go down," Emery said. "I just kind of skated around and took it pretty easy. (Monday), I did a lot more. Took a bunch of shots and it went pretty well, maybe 65-70 percent."
Analysis: The addition of Michael Leighton has put less stress on rushing Emery back into action since Laviolette can rotate between two veteran NHL goalies, with the other being Brian Boucher. Emery is likely still a few weeks away from returning, so continue to keep him out of Fantasy lineups. He is a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy.
News: Flyers goalie Ray Emery will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdomen, and is expected to miss about six weeks. Philadelphia general manager Paul Holmgren made the announcement Tuesday night before the Flyers played the New York Islanders. The Flyers, who lost five straight and eight of nine, recalled goalie Johan Backlund from the Adirondack Phantoms, but will rely heavily on Brian Boucher. Emery hadn't been playing well, and was pulled from Saturday's game against the Washington Capitals after allowing five goals. Holmgren said the injury played a part in Emery's slump. "You know how hard he practices," Holmgren said. "He's been trying to fight through this, but couldn't practice the way he normally does, and his game suffered. He's a down young man, and feels he let his team down."
Analysis: Emery had been awful lately and appeared to be losing his grip on the No. 1 spot in Philly even before the injury. That spot now belongs to Boucher, though his Fantasy value shouldn't improve that much. Backlund should barely be owned in Fantasy play and the Flyers TG probably isn't even worth using as a No. 2 unit anymore.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery was yanked 31:14 into Saturday's 8-2 loss to the Capitals after allowing five goals on 17 shots. He was replaced by Brian Boucher.
Analysis: Emery has been awful lately and appears to be losing his grip on the No. 1 spot in Philly. He's way too risky of a start in Fantasy Week 10 (Dec. 7-13), so just leave him on your bench for the time being. The Flyers TG barely remains a No. 2 option with the way the team is struggling this season.
News: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Flyers G Brian Boucher will make his fourth start in the last five games when Philly hosts Vancouver on Thursday night.
Analysis: Luckily for Ray Emery's owners, the Flyers only had two games in Fantasy Week 9 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6), so this emergence of Boucher hasn't killed too many people. However, it's obviously a developing situation that should be monitored very closely. If Boucher plays well again on Thursday, he could be worth using in deeper leagues as a No. 2 Fantasy option in Week 10 (Dec. 7-13) as the Flyers play four times. However, it would be a risky decision, as one bad start and he could be back on the bench again. Emery will also have similar value until this mess clears up. The Flyers TG remains a No. 2 option as well.
News: Sabres C Tim Connolly lifted a wrist shot from the slot high over Philadelphia goaltender Ray Emery to break a 2-2 tie at 5:27 in the final period on Friday. He scored again at 10:18 when his shot bounced off Ray Emery's mask in a 4-2 defeat of the Flyers. "Their fourth goal was a bit lucky," center Mike Richards said. "But I thought we had some [scoring] chances. We just didn't capitalize like they did." Emery, who lost his third straight start, had 21 saves. He lost a 2-1 first-period lead.
Analysis: This losing streak is overshadowing what has been a good start for Emery in his first season back in the NHL. He has managed to keep his composure and play well at the same time. Philly is going to make some noise in the Eastern Conference, so don't give up on Emery. Just treat him more as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery was pulled during Monday's game against the Avalanche but avoided the loss as Colorado won 5-4. Emery was yanked after Philadelphia fell behind 4-2 about midway through the second period. Emery had 13 saves in a little less than half the game. David Jones greeted Brian Boucher, Emery's replacement, with his second goal of the game and 10th of the season to make it 5-2 with 4:44 left in the period. It was enough to hold up as Philly made a late surge in the third.
Analysis: Emery is winless in four of his last five appearances and has allowed four or more goals in two of his last three outings. He might just need a night off to get refreshed, but Emery isn't in jeopardy of losing his starting job. He should still be considered a No. 2 Fantasy option. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 unit.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery had a good game against the Coyotes but came away with a 3-1 loss. Emery allowed two goals in the game, making 18 saves. His record dropped to 11-6-1 on the season with the performance.
Analysis: Emery coughed up six goals against San Jose in his previous start, so this was a much better performance that that at least. He has been impressive in net for the Flyers and has established himseld as the unquestioned starter. However, he should still be considered just a No. 2 Fantasy option. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 unit.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery made 23 saves during a 6-3 loss to the Sharks on Friday. Emery was locked in a pretty good battle until San Jose broke open a 4-3 game with two goals in the final eight minutes. Emery has lost two of his last three starts.
Analysis: Emery hasn't had many poor nights in his return to the NHL. He has 11 wins for the Flyers and came into Friday with a 2.22 GAA. He has definitely established his role in net for Philly, but he remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG pretty much goes as Emery does.
News:Ray Emery made 33 saves for the Flyers during a 3-2 win against the Devils on Monday. Emery never trailed in the game and allowed his first goal to David Clarkson on the power play 15:42 into the second. Zach Parise then scored with one second left. Emery has won six of his last seven outings.
Analysis: The only time Emery allowed more than two goals in his last seven games was during his only loss in that span on Saturday against the Sabres. Emery has been a great addition for the Flyers and is working his way up the Fantasy ladder. Right now, he is a low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG pretty much goes as Emery does.
News: Flyers G Ray Emerys five-game win streak came to an end Saturday as Philadelphia fell 3-2 to the Sabres. Emery made 22 saves.
Analysis: Emery has been a pleasant surprise for his Fantasy owners this season, and this loss wont do too much to dampen their spirits. He is currently a top-five goalie in most formats and certainly worth using in all leagues as a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy option until he or the Flyers start to cool down. Consider the Flyers TG the same.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery made 22 saves Thursday as he beat his former team, the Senators, 5-1. Emery has now won five straight games.
Analysis: Emery is now 10-3-1 and is looking like a superb steal for all Fantasy owners who took a shot with him in drafts this fall. He is currently a top-five goalie in most formats and certainly worth using in all leagues as a low-end No. 1 or high-end No. 2 Fantasy option until he or the Flyers start to cool down. Consider the Flyers TG the same.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery was able to walk away from a tightly contested game against the Blues with a shootout win 2-1. Emery allowed only one shootout goal after the overtime period expired to Brad Boyes. In regulation and overtime, Emery faced 31 shots, turning all but a T.J. Oshie wrister away.
Analysis: Emery has now won each of his last four starts and has six wins in his last seven times out. He has been better than expected with the Flyers to open up the season and has allowed more than three goals only twice in 12 games. He remains a solid No. 2 Fantasy option. The Flyers TG should also be considered a No. 2 unit.
News:Ray Emery made 28 saves to lead the Flyers to their fifth straight victory over the Sabres, 5-2 on Friday. Emery never trailed in the game and allowed a pair of power-play scores. "We knew they have had success both offensively and defensively, so we talked about getting bodies in front of (Ryan) Miller and we did that," said Emery, who improved to 5-1-0 in his last six starts. "We got a lead early, chipped in some late goals, and played well defensively."
Analysis: Emery has allowed more than three goals in just two of 11 appearances this season. He hasn't been over that plateau in eight straight games. Emery has done a nice job in his return to the NHL and has managed to keep his cool as well. Continue to use Emery as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery stopped 26 shots during a 6-2 win against the Lightning on Monday. Emery held a 3-0 lead before allowing Steven Stamkos to score his 11th goal. Emery has won four of his last five starts.
Analysis: Emery has allowed more than three goals in just two of 11 appearances this season. He hasn't been over that plateau in seven straight games. Emery has done a nice job in his return to the NHL and has managed to keep his cool as well. Continue to use Emery as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Philadelphia G Ray Emery stopped 39 shots on Saturday in an easy 6-1 win over Carolina. Emery allowed just one goal to score in the 2nd period by Brandon Sutter. He improves to 6-3-1 on the year.
Analysis: Emery has not allowed more than three goals to score in his last six games and is 3-2-1 over that span. The Flyers seem to have made the right decision by taking a chance on Emery. Think of him as a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Philadelphia G Ray Emery stopped 32 shots on Tuesday night in a 4-2 loss to the Capitals. It was the three shots he didn't stop that cost him the win. Emery allowed goals to Alex Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin, Washington's three best offensive weapons, before being removed for the empty net late in the game.
Analysis: Emery took the loss to fall to 5-3-1 on the season. He snapped a two-game winning streak with the defeat to one of the better teams in the NHL. The Flyers seem to have made the right decision by taking a chance on Emery. Think of him as a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery got plenty of goal support and didn't face too many shots on Saturday, beating the Panthers 5-1. Emery made 17 saves in the game and allowed only the one goal which was scored by David Booth. Emery's record improved to 5-2-1 on the season with the performance.
Analysis: Emery has won back-to-back games after a three-game skid which accounts for all of his losses this season. The Flyers seem to have made the right decision by taking a chance on Emery. Think of him as a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery stopped 23 shots during regulation and overtime, then turned aside all three skaters in the shootout during Thursday's 4-3 win against the Bruins. A quiet five-minute overtime sent the teams into a shootout. Danny Briere's attempt missed wide right and Tuukka Rask stopped a shot by Mike Richards. For Boston, Ray Emery denied Blake Wheeler and Patrice Bergeron before Michael Ryder's attempt hit the post.
Analysis: Emery won for the first time in four starts on Thursday. He hit a bit of a wall after winning his first three outings, but it hasn't totally been Emery's fault either. Philly has to be pleased with the returns they are getting from Emery, who has emerged as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News:Ray Emery, who has started every game in goal for Philadelphia, made 23 saves during a 4-2 loss the Panthers on Friday. Emery blew a pair of one-goal advantages before relinquishing the lead for good on Radek Dvorak's short-handed score in the third. With David Booth in the penalty box for tripping, Dvorak scored on a breakaway. He grabbed a loose puck in the neutral zone after Chris Pronger failed to keep a Florida clearing attempt in the offensive zone. With Simon Gagne chasing him, Dvorak managed to flip a short forehand shot that went off Emery's stick.
Analysis: After winning his first three starts with Philly, Emery is 0-2-1 in his last three outings. He has allowed three or more goals in three of his past four starts as well. Emery seems to be coming back down to Earth after his hot start. Continue to view Emery as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery looked to be in for his third win of the season Saturday, but the Ducks scored twice in the last 6:44, including a game-tying goal with 16 seconds left, and then won in a shootout. Emery finished with 31 saves in the loss.
Analysis: Emery got off to a great start this season, winning his first three outings, but he has now lost two in a row. Don't panic too much though if you drafted Emery, as he certainly got you more points in Fantasy Week 1 (Oct. 1-11) than you expected. He will get every opportunity to hold on to the No. 1 job in Philadelphia and should be started in all leagues that use two goalies for Week 2 (Oct. 12-18). The Flyers TG is a high-end No. 2 option.
News: Flyers G Ray Emery experienced the bitter taste of defeat for the first time since returning to the NHL on Thursday in a 5-4 loss to the Penguins. Emery faced only 25 shots on goal in the game but let the puck get past him five times. It was the second time this season that Emery had allowed five goals in one game.
Analysis: Emery has now allowed five goals in each of his past two games but ended up with the overtime win in his previous start against the Capitals. Emery spent last season in Russia, but has returned to the NHL this year and been decent so far. He is expected to have a solid season with the Flyers and remains a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 unit.
News: Philadelphia G Ray Emery has started the season off quite well as he's now 3-0-0 after three starts. Emery stopped the high-flying Washington Capitals on Tuesday night in an overtime battle, 6-5. Emery gave up all five goals but stopped 31 shots and outlasted the Washington goaltenders.
Analysis: Emery has given up seven goals in three games but all seven have come in the last two after shutting out Carolina in the opener. Emery spent last season in Russia, but has returned to the NHL this year and flourished so far. He is expected to have a solid season with the Flyers and remains a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 unit.
News:Ray Emery made 24 saves, Jeff Carter and Mike Richards scored for the second straight night and the Flyers beat New Jersey 5-2 on Saturday, spoiling Jacques Lemaire's return as the Devils' coach. Emery came within half a period of becoming the first Philadelphia goalie since Hall of Famer Bernie Parent in 1973 to open a season with consecutive shutouts.
Analysis: Emery spent last season in Russia, but has returned to the NHL this year and flourished so far. He is expected to have a solid season with the Flyers and remains a decent No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG is also a No. 2 unit.
News:Ray Emery made 28 saves in his Philadelphia debut, leading the Flyers to a 2-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night in their opener. Emery finished with his ninth career shutout. He faced his biggest onslaught in the third period when Carolina took 12 shots, however, Emery did not buckle.
Analysis: Emery, who spent last season in Russia, returned to the NHL hoping for more performances like Friday's. He picked up where he left off in the preseason, when he had a 1.78 goals-against average and .943 save percentage. Emery's last three appearances against the Hurricanes have ended in shutouts. His last complete-game regular-season shutout was a 2-0 victory over Carolina in February 2007, when he was with Ottawa. The following season, he and Martin Gerber teamed to blank the Hurricanes, but Emery logged only about 5 1/2 minutes of ice time in that game. He probably wishes he could play every game against Carolina, but we still think Emery is going to have a fine season with the Flyers. Consider Emery a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Flyers TG also is a No. 2 option.
News:Ray Emery is getting his second -- and maybe last -- chance in the NHL. A year after Ottawa released the petulant goaltender, forcing him to turn to a Russian league when no other NHL team would take him, Emery agreed to a one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers worth about $1.5 million. General manager Paul Holmgren thinks Emery, 26, has mended his mercurial ways and can again be the player he was when he helped the Senators to the Stanley Cup finals in 2007. "I spent a great deal of time talking with Ray," Holmgren said Wednesday. "The thing that kept coming back is he's recognized there was a period in his life when he made some mistakes." Emery missed practices and clashed with teammates in Ottawa and was charged with multiple speeding violations and a road rage incident. Emery insists he's learned from the past. "I learned maybe more from those bad experiences than the good times we had there," he said. "I realize I had a great thing going and lost a lot of people that I enjoyed hanging out with. I want to get back to having those good relationships. I think that's the reason I'm going to change."
Analysis: Emery put together a record of 71-40-14 with a 2.71 goals-against average in his five seasons with Ottawa. He has appeared in 30 playoff games and went 13-7 with a 2.26 goals-against average with three shutouts as the Senators reached the Stanley Cup finals in 2007. But after a rocky 2007-08 season during which he was repeatedly late for practice and ultimately lost his starting job, the Senators cut him loose. Emery wound up in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, appearing in 36 regular-season games with Atlant Mytischi and compiling a 22-8-0 record with a 2.12 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. The Flyers will be counting on Emery. Martin Biron, their starter last season, and backup Antero Niittymaki are unrestricted free agents. Emery could be a full-time starter in 2009-10, if Philly doesn't bring back either player. Flyers coach John Stevens said he also spoke at length with Emery and believes he can be productive again. "I see it as a real good fit," Stevens said. "What impressed me was he was willing to take responsibility. If he wasn't, I would have been a lot more concerned." Continue to track the Flyers' offseason progress, but if Emery is their starter next season, he is worth a look as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie Draft Day with potential to be much more.
News:The New York Times reports former NHL goalie Ray Emery is back with his Russian club Atlant Mytishchi of the KHL after clearing up a contract dispute. Emery left the club recently for several days in a pay dispute. Emery was being paid in rubles, whose value has plunged in recent months against the dollar, and he believed this was a violation of his agreement with the Moscow club.
Analysis: When Emery left his Russian team, rumors began to swirl that he would make his return to the NHL this season and possibly sign with a contender. It doesn't seem to be the case anymore as Emery has worked out the situation. Also, he still hasn't cleaned up his image of being a locker-room cancer. Anything can happen, but Fantasy owners don't need to add Emery at this time.
News:Ray Emery will kickstart his hockey career in Russia. The 25-year-old goaltender, bought out by the Ottawa Senators in June, has signed a one-year deal worth around $2 million with Atlant Mytishchi of the new Continental Hockey League. "The reality is that since Ray's buyout there hasn't been a lot of interest, it doesn't seem like someone (in the NHL) wants to give him a second chance right now," Emery's agent J.P. Barry told The Canadian Press on Wednesday. "It's a terrific offer from Russia and we've been speaking to them for several weeks since the buyout. I've been talking to Ray a lot over the last couple of months and I know he's taken a lot of steps to make changes. This is his best opportunity to play next year."
Analysis: After helping the Senators reach the Stanley Cup final in 2007, Emery had a nightmare 2007-08 season, losing his starting job to Martin Gerber and grabbing headlines for the wrong reasons -- such as being late for practice or throwing his stick in the stands. Sens GM Bryan Murray had enough and bought him out of a deal that was to pay him $6.75 million over the next two NHL seasons. We figured Emery was headed to Russia to recoup his reputation before an eventual return to the NHL in 2009-10. Fantasy owners can leave Emery out of Draft Day plans for 2008-09.
News: Ottawa Senators goalie Ray Emery cleared waivers on Monday, becoming an unrestricted free agent after being bought out by the team. Emery was owed $6.75 million over the next two seasons. Senators general manager Bryan Murray put Emery on waivers after he couldn't find a market for the mercurial goalie.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Emery went 12-13-4 last season with a 3.13 goals-against average and an .890 save percentage. Those numbers represented a steep decline from 2006-07, when Emery was a big part of Ottawa's run to the Stanley Cup final. That season, he was 33-16-6 with a 2.47 GAA and a .918 save percentage. If a desperate NHL team doesn't want Emery, he might have to go overseas for a bit. Emery likely won't find a starting job, so consider him a low-end Fantasy reserve if he does land on his feet in the NHL.
News:Ray Emery was placed on waivers Friday by the Ottawa Senators, who intend to buy out the goalie's contract if he isn't claimed by another team within two days. Speaking before the NHL draft in Ottawa, Senators general manager Bryan Murray said he had grown tired of the distractions caused by Emery last season, and wanted to "clean the slate" after hiring new coach Craig Hartsburg last week to replace him behind the bench. After helping the Senators win the Eastern Conference title in 2007, Emery struggled this season and eventually lost the starting job to Martin Gerber in January. He was fined by the team shortly after for arriving late for practice, something he had done several times before.
Analysis: Emery has two years and $6.75 million left on his contract. If he goes unclaimed, the Senators have the option to release Emery by buying out one-third of his deal. Murray said he attempted to trade Emery this week, but couldn't find anyone interested. "And I wasn't looking for much," Murray said. Emery recently completed his third full season with the Senators, going 12-13-4 with a 3.13 goals-against average and no shutouts. His best season came in 2006-07, when he went 33-16-6 in 58 regular-season games. He was 13-7 in the playoffs and helped the Senators advance to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time before they lost to Anaheim in five games. If a desperate NHL team doesn't want Emery, he might have to go overseas for a bit. Emery likely won't find a starting job, so consider him a low-end Fantasy reserve if he does land on his feet.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber made his 11th straight start Monday against the Canadiens, but only lasted one period before being replaced by Ray Emery to begin the second. Gerber allowed three goals on 14 shots. Emery took the loss as he allowed four goals on 18 shots. The Senators lost 7-5.
Analysis: Emery has lost his last three outings and has allowed three or more goals in his last four appearances. He made his first March outing Monday and is not a favorite of new head coach Bryan Murray. Emery is nothing more than a flier in leagues that use average points per game.
News:Ray Emery allowed three goals on 38 shots, two of which were scored by Mike Knuble in the third period, and the Ottawa Senators lost 3-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers. Emery has allowed eight goals in the last two losses.
Analysis: Emery is a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Ray Emery lasted only two periods Monday against the Maple Leafs as Toronto scored five times on 21 shots. Martin Gerber took over in net for the third period and stopped all six shots he faced during a 5-0 loss.
Analysis: Emery has allowed five goals in two of his last six appearances. He has been seeing a majority of starts for Ottawa as they display him as possible trade bait. If Emery sticks around, he will likely continue to share starts with Gerber. Emery remains a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Ray Emery stopped 32 shots, including 11 in the third period and overtime, and Ottawa Senators rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in overtime Saturday.
Analysis: Emery is now two games over .500 with a record of 12-10-4. He really has been more off a distraction to the Senators this season than a valuable goalie. Ottawa might be trying to trade him, so they've been using him more often in recent games. Emery remains a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News: Senators G Ray Emery stopped 22 of 24 shots in regulation and overtime Thursday against the Blue Jackets, but faltered in the shootout when he allowed two goals on two attempts. Emery and Ottawa lost 3-2. Emery is now winless in three of his last four starts (1-2-1).
Analysis: Emery has been anything but a solid goalie in 2007-08. He is barely over .500 at 11-10-4 and has a save percentage under .900. He has created trouble in the locker room and hasn't been a role model in the community. The Sens are trying to trade him, but for now, he remains a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News: Senators G Ray Emery blew a 2-0 lead during Tuesday's game against the Flyers, but allowed just one goal in a shootout and held on for the 3-2 overtime win. He made 23 saves as he won for the first time in three starts. It was also just his second career win against Philadelphia. He came into the game with a 1-2-0 record and a 4.36 GAA in four career games against the Flyers.
Analysis: Emery has been anything but a solid goalie in 2007-08. He is barely over .500 at 11-10-3 and has a save percentage under .900. He has created trouble in the locker room and hasn't been a role model in the community. The Sens are trying to trade him, but for now, he remains a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News: Senators G Ray Emery is scheduled to start for Ottawa Tuesday against the Flyers despite a 2-6-0 record and a 3.51 goals-against average in his last nine appearances. Emery is 1-2-0 with a 4.36 GAA four career games against the Flyers.
Analysis: Emery has been anything but a solid goalie in 2007-08. He is 10-10-3 with a 3.06 GAA and .892 save percentage. He has created trouble in the locker room and hasn't been a role model in the community. The Sens are trying to trade him, but for now, he remains a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News:Ray Emery made his third start in the last four games for the Senators and had 26 saves in taking a 3-2 loss against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. The loss was the third straight for the Senators and Emery's record for the season fell to 10-10-3.
Analysis: Consider Emery a No. 2 Fantasy goalie until he wins more consistency and maybe get the top job which now belong to Martin Gerber. The Senators TG remains a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News:Ray Emery didn't have his best stuff in getting his third consecutive start on Tuesday when he gave up five goals on 39 shots in a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres. Emery allowed four of the goals on 12 shots in the third period.
Analysis: Emery had won games against Florida and Montreal and was rewarded with this third straight start. Unfortunately for him and the Senators it did not work out as planned. Consider Emery a No. 2 Fantasy goalie until he wins more consistency and maybe get the top job which now belong to Martin Gerber. The Senators TG remains a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Senators G Ray Emery will almost certainly get a chance to do something Tuesday against the Sabres that he hasn't been allowed to do in almost a month. That is, make a third consecutive start in goal. Emery was solid in Saturday's 6-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens -- making 33 saves and coming up large on a couple of occasions with his team in front by three but the game still up for grabs early in the second. The victory, which improved Emery's record to 10-8-3, should give him the assignment when the Buffalo Sabres visit Scotiabank Place on Tuesday. "I thought he looked real quick, sharp and more controlled in the net," coach John Paddock said. "If (Jason Spezza, Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley) hadn't had such a big game, he probably would have been one of the stars."
Analysis: Paddock has been eager for one of this goaltenders to stop him from rotating so much and claim the No. 1 job heading down the stretch and into the playoffs. On Saturday, Emery looked as if he might be ready to do just that. Fantasy owners have been waiting for Emery to get hot all season. A wrist injury kept Emery out until late October and was having a hard time getting starts with Martin Gerber playing so well in net. But now Gerber is sliding and Emery is soaring. His GAA is still a little high (2.96), but the Senators are excited about his progress. Consider Emery a No. 2 Fantasy goalie until he really solidifies the No. 1 job. The Senators TG remains a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Ray Emery made 33 saves to win his second straight start and 10th game of the season. Emery only allowed one goal in a 6-1 over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Analysis: Emery is up to 10 wins for the season, but he is just a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News:Ray Emery gives up four goals but the Senators score one more than the Florida Panthers on Thursday in a 5-4 win. Emery made 29 saves in the game for his first win in five starts and last six appearances on the ice for the Senators.
Analysis: Emery goes over .500 for the season, improving to 9-8-3, but he is just a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News:Ray Emery remains without a win in four starts and five appearances after losing 4-2 Saturday night to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Emery stopped 22 shots.
Analysis: Emery is a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News: Ottawa Senators goalie Ray Emery will be "fined substantially" by the team after arriving late for a team skate a day after the All-Star game. Emery's explanation for being four minutes late was that he went to Nassau Coliseum for the skate, when it was being held at the Islanders' practice rink Monday afternoon. "Ray has got to be in uniform with the rest of the team," general manager Bryan Murray said. "This is a uniform league. We have rules, and he has to follow them, just like anyone else." Murray said Emery will be "fined substantially." Murray did admit that the transgression itself wasn't as bad as it was made out to be, but this wasn't Emery's first incident this season. He threw his stick in the stands after a morning skate, angry that he wasn't starting that night's game. He also fought teammate Brian McGrattan in practice.
Analysis: Emery spoke after Ottawa's 5-2 win over the Islanders on Tuesday night. "When the club came back from the break, I just didn't go to the right location," Emery said. "I didn't want to cause a ruckus, and I want to make up for it. I haven't heard any of my teammates say it harmed them or anything like that. All I can do is show up on time and try to get through this as best as I can." Emery could be docked up to 1/187th of his $2.75 million salary, roughly $14,700. Emery is a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News:Ray Emery's season has been an up and down streak. Emery was beaten five times on 40 shots Tuesday in a 5-3 loss at Florida. It was his fourth straight loss after he had won three previous games.
Analysis: Head coach John Paddock continues to switch between Emery and Martin Gerber in net. Emery has won or lost in bunches this season. Consider Emery a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber allowed four goals on 14 shots before being replaced by Ray Emery at the beginning of the third period during Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Flyers. Emery allowed two goals on seven shots in the losing effort.
Analysis: Emery lost in a close game Saturday against the Lightning and was supposed to have the day off Sunday before Gerber had a meltdown in net. Head coach John Paddock continues to switch between Emery and Gerber in net. Consider Emery a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News:Ray Emery made 24 saves for the Senators but lost 2-0 to the Lightning on Saturday. Emery won three in a row before losing his last two starts.
Analysis: Emery won four of the seven starts he has in January. That's pretty good going for any goalie, but Emery remains a No. 2/No. 3 Fantasy goalie for the time being. The Senators TG remains a must-start Fantasy option.
News: G Ray Emery had a shutout bid ended in the third period Thursday, but still came up with a 5-1 win to beat the Hurricanes. Emery was pepperd with 19 shots in the third period and faced 37 total.
Analysis: Emery won four of the six starts he has in January. That's pretty good going for any goalie, but Emery remains a No. 2/No. 3 Fantasy goalie for the time being. The Senators TG remains a must-start Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Ray Emery stopped 23 shots during a 4-2 loss Tuesday against the Capitals. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Emery. He previously lost, ironically, Jan. 1 against the Capitals.
Analysis: Emery has made five appearances in January and is doing well for the most part. However, don't put it past John Paddock to continue and swap goalies for the Senators. Emery still remains a No. 2/No. 3 Fantasy goalie for the time being. The Senators TG remains a must-start Fantasy option.
News:Ray Emery, a backup to his opponent Dominik Hasek when he was with Ottawa during the first half of the 2005-06 season, made 27 saves for his third straight win as the Senators extended their winning streak to four games with a 3-2 win over Detroit on Saturday.
Analysis: The Senators are scoring goals for Emery and that is keeping him in games. It looks like the Senators will continue to lean on Emery for a while, but he is still a No. 3 Fantasy goalie until the wins start rolling in. Ottawa can go to Martin Geber at any time. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option.
News: The Senators called on G Ray Emery for a second straight start Saturday against the Lightning and Emery delivered with his second straight win. Emery made just 16 saves in a 4-3 overtime win. He has allowed three goals in both wins.
Analysis: Emery has not looked outstanding in the two wins, but the Senators are scoring goals and keeping him in games. Don't be surprised if the Sens lean on Emery for a little bit, but he is still a No. 3 Fantasy goalie until the wins starting rolling in. Ottawa can go to Martin Geber at any time. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Ray Emery made 36 saves during a 5-3 win Friday against the Sabres. Emery, making his first start since Dec. 22, made several big stops, especially in the second period when Buffalo peppered him with 17 shots. It was also his first win since Dec. 12 against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Emery earned the start after having to relieve Martin Gerber Tuesday against the Capitals. Don't be surprised if the Sens lean on Emery for a little bit, but he is still a No. 3 Fantasy goalie until the wins starting rolling in. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber allowed three goals on just eight shots during a 6-3 loss Tuesday against the Capitals before giving way to Ray Emery just 7:34 into the first period. Gerber has allowed 10 goals on just 37 shots against the Capitals this season -- both losses and both coming in his last two starts. Emery made 15 saves and allowed two goals in relief of Gerber.
Analysis: Emery has made just one start since Dec. 12 against the Hurricanes, when he suffered a slight hip strain. Don't be surprised if he earned himself a start after Tuesday's performance, but the Sens seem to be giving Gerber the majority of starts this season. Until that changes, consider Emery a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average scoring systems.
News: Senators G Ray Emery was in net Saturday against the Blackhawks for the first time since being pulled from a start Dec. 12 because of hip soreness. He made 25 saves, but failed to pick up the win as Chicago won 4-3 in overtime. The OT loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Emery.
Analysis: Emery got time to rest his sore hip, but still came out rusty Saturday. Martin Gerber has been playing very well and seems to have regained the top goalie job for the time being. Emery is back to being a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Ray Emery dressed as the team's backup goalie for the second straight game Saturday against the Thrashers. Emery was pulled from net on Wednesday due to soreness in his right hip. He is available to play, but the Senators have chosen to start Martin Gerber.
Analysis: Emery has won his last three starts and has made six appearances in December. He is starting to steal starts away from Gerber, but still can't be trusted outside of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie because he is not a full-time goalie. He is day to day at this juncture, but the injury doesn't appear to be too serious. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option regardless who is in net.
News: Senators G Ray Emery was not in net Thursday against the Penguins less than 24 hours after leaving a start against the Hurricanes. He picked up the win Wednesday despite making just one save.
Analysis: Emery has won his last three starts and has made six appearances in December. He is starting to steal starts away from Martin Gerber, but still can't be trusted outside of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie because he is not a full-time goalie. He is day to day at this juncture, but the injury doesn't appear to be too serious. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option regardless who is in net.
News: Ottawa Senators goalie Ray Emery left in the first period Wednesday against the Carolina Hurricanes due to soreness in his right hip. Emery stopped the only shot he faced before leaving with 14:36 left in the period, skating off when Mike Fisher gave the Senators a 2-0 lead and Carolina coach Peter Laviolette called a timeout. He was replaced by former Hurricanes goalie Martin Gerber. Senators coach John Paddock said he expected Emery would be healthy enough to be Gerber's backup Thursday night at Pittsburgh. "I was a little bit surprised, but I knew that he wasn't right" during the morning skate, Paddock said. "That's why he went off the ice. He had a problem with a sore right hip, and he was worried he was going to do something more serious to it."
Analysis: Emery earned the win despite only making one save. The Senators held on for a 6-0 win while Gerber stopped 31 shots in relief. Emery has now won his last three starts and has made six appearances in December.
News:Ray Emery stopped 23 shots in an improved defensive effort for the Senators during Friday's 4-2 win against the Stars. Emery has now won consecutive starts and has been in net for the last three games.
Analysis: Emery is still just posting average starts, but he is winning and Martin Gerber has been struggling. He will likely see a majority of starts in net as long as he has the hot hand, but here is a situation where two goalies might be sharing starts all season. Treat Emery as a No. 2 or No. 3 Fantasy goalie at this time. The Senators TG remains a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News:Ray Emery, who made 21 saves in his first shot at back-to-back starts, will get the call again Friday night against the Stars.
Analysis: That's Emery's first win in his past seven appearances. Martin Gerber is starting to struggle, so the Senators could use Emery more if he gets hot. For now, he remains a low-end Fantasy flier, whereas the Senators TG is a decent No. 2 unit since they are expected to bounce back as one of the top teams in the conference.
News: Ottawa's Ray Emery made 25 saves in a shootout loss Tuesday, including an in-close chance by Tampa Bay's Martin St. Louis in overtime. He finished with 25 saves.
Analysis: Emery hasn't secured a win in his last six appearances. Martin Gerber is starting to struggle, so the Senators could use Emery if he gets hot. For now, he remains a low-end Fantasy flier, whereas the Senators TG is a decent No. 2 unit since they are expected to bounce back as one of the top teams in the conference.
News:Martin Gerber, who shut out the Rangers 2-0 on Oct. 6, made his 19th start of the season Saturday against New York but was replaced by Ray Emery after allowing three goals on 12 first-period shots. Emery finished the game by allowing one goal on 11 shots as the Senators lost 5-2.
Analysis: Emery hasn't secured a win in his last five appearances, but did make a nice relief outing Saturday. Martin Gerber is starting to struggle, so this is the perfect time for Emery to get hot. For now, he remains a low-end Fantasy flier.
News: Senators G Ray Emery made only his fifth start of the season Wednesday against the Islanders and finished with 20 saves during a 3-2 shootout loss. Mike Sillinger beat Emery with a snap shot to begin the sixth round in the shootout. Rick DiPietro sealed New York's first shootout victory of the season when he gloved Dean McAmmond's drive.
Analysis: After a stellar performance during the Senators' run to the Stanley Cup finals last spring, Emery missed the first six games this season as he recovered from a wrist injury. Emery has lost four consecutive decisions, including a relief stint for Martin Gerber on Saturday when he allowed only one of four goals in a 4-3 home defeat to Philadelphia. Due to his slow comeback combined with the fine play of Gerber, Emery has found playing time scarce. He is still a low-end Fantasy option until he sees regular starts. The Senators TG is a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Ray Emery took over in goal in the second period Saturday against the Flyers in relief of Martin Gerber, who allowed three goals on 25 shots. Emery surrendered the final goal and made 16 saves as the Senators lost a third straight game for the first time since last March.
Analysis: Emery actually took the loss Saturday because he allowed the decisive goal in a 4-3 loss. Tough break for him. However, Gerber has struggled recently and Emery might find himself back in net the next time Ottawa hits the ice. He is still a low-end Fantasy option until he sees regular starts. The Senators TG is a No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: The Sabres peppered Ottawa goalie Ray Emery with 31 shots Wednesday. Emery, making just his second start in eight games and fourth overall, allowed four or more goals for the third time. Emery looked bad on the Sabres' second goal, a wrister from the high slot by Ales Kotalik. Other than that, he was happy with his game. Martin Gerber will be between the pipes for Ottawa Thursday when the Senators host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Analysis: Emery finished with 27 saves and lost his second in a row. Emery has now allowed four goals in each of his past three outings. The latest, which was just his fourth start of the season, saw Emery surrender three first-period goals. Martin Gerber continues to be the best option in net for the Senators right now and that kills Emery's Fantasy value. They will likely continue to split time until further notice. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options. Gerber remains a solid No. 1 Fantasy option.
News: Ray Emery stopped 31 shots in his third start of the season for the Senators, but the Capitals sent Emery to his first loss with a 4-1 victory over Ottawa. Emery, who is splitting time in net with Martin Gerber, has allowed four goals in each of his last two starts.
Analysis: Gerber continues to be the best option in net for the Senators right now and that kills Emery's Fantasy value. They will likely continue to split time until further notice. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options.
News: Ray Emery, who was making only his second start of the season, survived a four-goal third period as the Senators won 6-4 against Atlanta Thursday. Emery needed only 15 saves in the game for his second win in as many starts. Ilya Kovalchuk spoiled Emery's shutout bid midway through the third and started Atlanta's rally when he snapped a shot between the goaltender's pads on a 2-on-1 break.
Analysis: Emery looked strong in net for the first two periods Thursday, but then fell asleep in the final frame. Luckily his teammates bailed him out. Emery continues to split time with Martin Gerber, who has started the season on a roll. Sens head coach John Paddock will likely continue to split time between the two goalies as long as Gerber remains hot. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options as long as they split time in net. Fantasy owners will definitely want to keep an eye on the developments in the coming weeks.
News: Ray Emery made 31 saves in his first regular-season start of the season to help the Ottawa Senators beat the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Saturday night. Emery, who underwent offseason wrist surgery, did play two games last weekend for the Senators' AHL affiliate in Binghamton, stopping 80 of 86 shots. The Panthers got their lone goal on a power play in the second period when Richard Zednik stuffed a loose puck between Emery and the goal post.
Analysis: Emery picked up Saturday where he left off in 2006-07. He finished last season 33-16-6 with a 2.47 GAA. He also posted five shutouts. But now that Emery is back, Fantasy owners won't be totally happy. Huh? Martin Gerber started the season 6-1-0 with a 2.13 GAA in place of Emery. Sens head coach John Paddock will likely split time between the two goalies as long as Gerber remains hot. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options as long as they split time in net. Fantasy owners will definitely want to keep an eye on the developments in the coming weeks.
News: Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots in Thursday's game against the Canadiens for his sixth win in seven starts. Ray Emery (wrist), back from a conditioning assignment in the AHL, dressed as his backup.
Analysis: Gerber is showing no signs of letting up, as he has played tremendously well in Emery's stead. However, look for coach John Paddock to get Emery back involved. The two will likely split starts for the Senators, which doesn't necessarily bode well for either of their Fantasy values.
News: The Ottawa Citizen reports that head coach John Paddock will wait until Wednesday to announce his starter in net for Thursday's game against the Canadiens. Ray Emery (wrist) is back from a conditioning assignment, but Martin Gerber has done little to lose his grip on the starting job.
Analysis: Emery should be kept reserved in all Fantasy leagues until he can officially return and prove his health. We might get a goaltender split at best, unless Emery stumbles out of the gate. It's hard for Paddock to get away from Gerber right now with the Senators in first place by six points already and showing no signs of letting up.
News: Ray Emery (wrist) stopped 46 of the 48 shots he faced in a weekend conditioning assignment on Saturday with Binghamton of the AHL. The Ottawa Citizen reports Emery is nearing 100 percent and might play on Thursday against Montreal.
Analysis: Eemery will still have to play well when he is able to return to force Martin Gerber to the bench. Brian Elliott has been returned to Binghamton with Emery ready to return, but Emery should only be used in Fantasy leagues which average points per game at this point until he can officially return.
News: TSN.ca is reporting Ray Emery (wrist) has been assigned to Binghamton of the AHL on Thursday for a conditioning assignment. He is expected to play on Friday and Saturday before returning to the Senators.
Analysis: Emery is out until at least Oct. 18 against the Canadiens. Keep him reserved through Fantasy Week 3 (Oct. 15-21) until he can officially return and prove his health without any lingering effects of the injury.
News: Emery (wrist) is still a while away from returning to the Senators lineup and the team can afford to be a little more cautious with the stellar play of Martin Gerber so far. "(Yesterday) was the best (practice) I've had, where I didn't think about it all the time," Emery told the Ottawa Citizen. "I didn't take any awkward shots or anything like that. It was kind of the first day where I didn't hesitate before reacting. I still have to get my feet back under me and try to get sharp, but as far as the hand goes, it felt pretty good."
Analysis: Brian Elliott started Wednesday's game at Atlanta in his NHL debut and will continue to serve as the backup to Gerber until Emery is ready. When Emery is healthy enough, it is hard to believe coach John Paddock will be willing to take out the hot Gerber for more than a game or two here, especially if Emery is rusty in his initial appearance of the season.
News: G Ray Emery (wrist) is practicing, but no timetable has been set for his 2007-08 debut.
Analysis: Martin Gerber was 10-0-0-2 in his last 12 starts to end the 2006-07 season and he'll be starting in Emery's place. Keep Emery reserved and consider grabbing Gerber in most leagues.
News:TSN.ca reports the Ottawa Senators will go with Martin Gerber for at least the first week of the season to start in goal. Ray Emery is still recovering from the wrist injury he suffered last season. "He's not going to play in Toronto and he's not going to play on the weekend," Senators head coach John Paddock said. "It's just like any other player; he's got to be game ready."
Analysis: Gerber was 10-0-0-2 in his last 12 starts to end the 2006-07 season. He picked up three wins and a 1.97 GAA and .947 save percentage in five games during the preseason. Reserve Emery immediately and consider grabbing Gerber in leagues which allow transactions up until Wednesday night.
News: Ray Emery was able to practicipate in his first full practice on Sunday, although it remains to be seen whether he'll play in one of the team's final two preseason games either Saturday against Montreal or Sunday at Washington. "I'm close, but I'm not where I want to be as far as playing a game," Emery told Ottawa Sun. It's kind of frustrating for me right now, but I'll get in there."
Analysis: If you're a Fantasy owner of Emery or you are yet to draft and considering the Ottawa starter, consider grabbing Martin Gerber as insurance just in case he is not 100 percent to start the season and shows some rust early on. Consider Emery questionable for the opener on Oct. 3 at Toronto.
News: TSN.ca reports Ray Emery (wrist) was able to attend his first practice since training camp starter. He took shots on Wednesday and appears to be nearing 100 percent.
Analysis: Emery is expected to be ready for the Oct. 3 opener at Toronto, but it might be a good idea to get Martin Gerber onto your Fantasy roster as a backup just in case Emery aggravates the injury.
