Ducks' Heatley Showing Improvement

News: Dany Heatley (groin) took part in a full practice Thursday, but isn't sure when he might receive clearance to start playing in games, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley noted that while his condition is improving, he's still moving "a little slower" than he anticipated. He'll probably need a few practices to get back up to full speed. As a result, it might be safe to rule him out of Friday's game against the Columbus, but it's possible that he could return later in the weekend against the Sharks.

Ducks' Heatley Unlikely To Return Over Weekend

News: Dany Heatley (groin) continues to make progress while skating, but is expected to miss the Ducks' two weekend contests against the Wild and Blues, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Even though the Ducks still haven't settled on a top-line left wing since Dany Heatley acquired the groin injury, the team is of no mind to rush him back and potential worsen the ailment. With Patrick Maroon joining Heatley on injured reserve Wednesday, it appears Matt Beleskey and Emerson Etem are the top candidates to skate on the Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry line.

Ducks' Heatley Unlikely For Home Opener

News: Dany Heatley (groin) resumed skating in Anaheim on Sunday, but is unlikely for the team's home opener against Minnesota on Friday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley was placed on IR on Tuesday, but his timetable was unclear. The fact that he is skating is a good sign and an indication he is closing in on a return, but coach Bruce Boudreau expressed a return date later than Friday.

Ducks' Heatley Placed On IR

News: Dany Heatley (groin) will be placed on injured reserve Tuesday, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley hasn't skated since suffering the groin injury last week and can probably safely be ruled out for the Ducks' first two contests. The veteran winger was expected to open the season on the top line next to Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry to start the season, but the Ducks will have to table that plan temporarily while he remains out of commission. Matt Beleskey or Patrick Maroon could receive the appointment to the top line in the interim.

Heatley Still Not Skating

News: Anaheim's top offseason acquisition, Dany Heatley (groin) remains sidelined and has yet to resume skating, the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley was penciled in on the top line with Captain Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, but now someone else gets to play with the dynamic duo. And who that will be, who knows. Coach Bruce Boudreau has a lot of options with the depth at his disposal. Patrick Maroon would likely get the first shot, although that is speculation, as we are just going by how well he played with the two superstars last season, especially in the post-season. He will travel with the team to start the season, but muscle strains are tricky. Have other options available for those that drafted the previous 50 goal scorer.

Ducks' Heatley (Groin) Out At Least A Week

News: Dany Heatley suffered a groin injury during Sunday's preseason contest and will be out for a minimum of one week, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: The injury puts Dany Heatley's availability for the Oct. 9 regular season opener against the Penguins in serious jeopardy, but perhaps more significantly, it could end coach Bruce Boudreau's experiment with Heatley on the top line next to Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. With Heatley unable to practice Monday, Patrick Maroon occupied the top left wing spot, and would likely do so for as long as Heatley remains sidelined.

Ducks' Heatley Scores In First Game With New Team

News: Dany Heatley had the opening tally and eventual game winner in the Ducks 4-0 victory over the Avalanche in his first pre-season game with his new team.
Analysis: Dany Heatley has been skating with Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry on the team's top unit. If he starts the season alongside these top fantasy performers he may have some deep league value.

Ducks' Heatley Could Play On Top Line

News: Coach Bruce Boudreau said he thinks Dany Heatley can be a better fit with captain Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry on the top line this season than Dustin Penner was last year, Pro Hockey Talk reports.
Analysis: Boudreau noted that this offseason's free-agent experiment has been "a dangerous player" every time he's seen him. If Dany Heatley gets the first crack at playing alongside these two top-10 fantasy picks, his value would skyrocket, but we'll see how things go during the preseason. While Heatley has two 50-goal seasons on his resume, he's been on a steady decline since the 2006-07 campaign and the Ducks have a lot of other options. If he does get top-line time, Heatley could return late value on draft day.

Heatley Signs With Ducks

News: Dany Heatley has signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Ducks, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: The 33-year-old Dany Heatley -- who notched 12 goals and 28 points in 76 games with the Wild this past season -- isn't the elite goal-scorer he once was, but he'll provide the Ducks with an experienced option at left wing. Keep an eye on who he ends up skating with in training camp, as Heatley could see increased production with Anaheim if he ends up on a scoring trio.

Heatley On Board Again For Wild

News: Dany Heatley notched an assist on one of Minnesota's two goals in Friday's Game 1 loss to Chicago, giving him four points in the last three games.
Analysis: Dany Heatley also threw his body around in the first period, slamming Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook into the boards after a whistle. Heatley is a shell of the player he used to be but he can still be effective.

Wild's Heatley: Vintage Performance In Game 7

News: Dany Heatley registered a goal and two assists in Minnesota's Game 7 victory over the Avalanche on Wednesday.
Analysis: Dany Heatley has been a major disappointment for the Wild this season, but he saved one of his best games of the campaign when the team needed it most. His marker in the second period tied the game at two apiece, and he picked up secondary helpers on both of Nino Niederreiter's goals, including his game-winner in overtime.

Wild's Heatley Will Play Monday

News: Dany Heatley will be in the lineup against the Avalanche on Monday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley was a healthy scratch in the first two games of the Wild's opening-round playoff series, but will get a chance to dress in Game 3 in an attempt to give the team a spark, considering they're down two games to none. Heatley collected 12 goals and 16 assists in 76 games this season, but also ended with a minus-18 rating.

WIld's Heatley Benched Again

News: Dany Heatley was a healthy scratch for the fifth time in six games in Tuesday's win over Boston.
Analysis: Dany Heatley is back to the bench with Nino Niederreiter returning from an injury. It doesn't look like Heatley is going to have much of a role in the playoffs.

Wild's Heatley Returns To Fourth Line

News: Dany Heatley had two hits and had 8:49 of ice time in Thursday's shootout loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Dany Heatley's play has declined so much that he was benched the previous two games. He was on the fourth line with Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter sidelined with injuries.

Wild's Heatley Stuck On Bench

News: Dany Heatley was a healthy scratch for a second consecutive game in Monday's win over the Kings, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: It's not clear when Dany Heatley will return to the lineup, as he's struggled this season and was minus-7 over his past five games before he was benched.

Wild To Scratch Heatley On Saturday

News: Dany Heatley will be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Coyotes, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Yeo had been close to pulling Dany Heatley from the lineup in recent games, but ultimately chose not to due to the forward's presence on the power-play. However, Heatley's two costly turnovers in Thursday's loss to the Blues left Yeo will no choice but to bench the former star forward, who has a minus-7 rating in his past five games.

Massive Goal Drought For Wild's Heatley

News: Dany Heatley has failed to register a goal in his last 13 games.
Analysis: It's a season-worst slump for Dany Heatley, which is saying a lot, considering his glacially slow start to the campaign. With no sign of Heatley returning to a top-six role anytime soon, it's probably safe to write him off as a useful fantasy commodity in shallow formats at this point in his career.

Wild's Heatley Registers Assist

News: Dany Heatley had an assist in Tuesday's shootout loss to Edmonton.
Analysis: Dany Heatley has been moved to the fourth line with the trades for Matt Moulson and Cody McCormick. Despite the assist, he's getting less playing times with less than ten minutes of ice time the past two games.

Heatley Posts PPG In Minnesota's Loss

News: Dany Heatley scored on the power play and added an assist in Saturday's loss to the Flames in Calgary. His ledger stands at 10-11-21 in 57 contests.
Analysis: This season has been a reverse-breakout; his offense has fallen off the table, even contrasted with his modest output in recent years.

Wild's Heatley Tallies Two Points

News: Dany Heatley scored the game-winning goal and had an assist against the Predators on Sunday.
Analysis: Dany Heatley has four points in his last two games, but he is very much not the player he used to be. He only has nine goals and 17 points on the season and he is a minus-12 as well.

Wild's Heatley Demoted To Fourth Line

News: Dany Heatley was moved to the fourth line from the second line in Thursday's loss to Anaheim. He had just 9:43 of ice time.
Analysis: Dany Heatley had a resurgence with three goals in six games, but he's been scoreless the past three games and looks back into the coach's doghouse.

Wild's Heatley Moves To Top Power-Play Unit

News: Dany Heatley was moved to the Wild's top power-play unit in Wednesday's practice, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley had been on the second unit previously. He got off a slow start to the season, but has turned his play around lately, with three goals in his last six games, and this move can only help his fantasy value.

Wild's Heatley Scores Lone Goal In Loss

News: Dany Heatley scored the Wild's lone goal in Friday's loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: It's the fourth marker in six games for Dany Heatley, who finally seems to be heating up after a mostly dismal first quarter of the season. If Heatley can at least remain a semi-regular fixture in the scoring column as he's proven to be in the past, the Wild would be able to squeeze out some needed productivity outside of their top six.

Wild's Heatley Scores Fifth Goal

News: Dany Heatley scored his fifth goal of the season in Wednesday's loss to Phoenix. He skated on the Wild's top line with Mikko Koivu and Charlie Coyle with Zach Parise out with a foot injury, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Dany Heatley has just eight points in 26 games this season, but is showing signs of life with three goals and four points in his last five games.

Wild's Heatley Delivers Two Points Wednesday

News: Dany Heatley scored his fourth goal of the season and added an assist in Wednesday's win over the Senators.
Analysis: From an offensive standpoint, it was Dany Heatley's best game of the season, as the veteran forward had yet to deliver more than one point in any one contest prior to Wednesday. Remarkably, the production came in a season-low 9:44 of time on ice. Heatley now has registered a goal in back-to-back games and while that hardly qualifies as a breakthrough, it at least makes him worth keeping a tab on considering his pedigree as a scorer.
