Craig Cut By Blue Jackets

News: Ryan Craig was waived by the Blue Jackets on Monday, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The 32-year-old Ryan Craig is an AHL journeyman whose chances of cracking the Blue Jackets' Opening Night roster were remote, at best. He'll return to the familiar confines of Springfield, where he supplied 18 goals and 15 assists over 55 games last season.

Blue Jackets Send Craig To AHL Springfield

News: Ryan Craig (lower body) was sent down to AHL Springfield on Friday, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Ryan Craig had been working his way back from the lower-body injury but the Blue Jackets want him on the ice a little more often as he works his way back into game shape. He'll see plenty of ice time at Springfield and should be back soon.

Blue Jackets' Craig Appears Set To Play Friday

News: Ryan Craig (lower body) was present at morning skate and looks to be good to go for Friday's game against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Ryan Craig skated on the fourth line with Mark Letestu and Corey Tropp during morning skate without any setbacks to his lower-body injury. He's appeared in five games this season with the big club, averaging just 7:19 of ice time per contest.

Jackets' Craig Questionable For Friday

News: Ryan Craig (lower body) is questionable for Friday's game against the Hurricanes, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The center is in his second stint up with the Jackets this season, but has only suited up for five games so far. With zero points and a minus-3 rating, his status for Friday should only have a minor impact on fantasy leagues.

Jackets Recall Craig From AHL

News: Ryan Craig was recalled from AHL Springfield by the Blue Jackets on Monday.
Analysis: Ryan Craig will be making his second trip to the NHL this season after playing three games for the Blue Jackets earlier this season. In 22 games with AHL Springfield this year, he has 12 points on six goals and six assists. He will provide some depth at forward for the Blue Jackets.

Jackets' Craig Sent To AHL

News: Ryan Craig was assigned to AHL Springfield by the Blue Jackets on Monday.
Analysis: Ryan Craig played in three games while he was up with the Blue Jackets this season and did not record a point in that stretch. He only averaged 6:35 of ice time in the majors, so he will return to AHL Springfield to see more regular ice time.

Blue Jackets Recall Craig

News: Ryan Craig was recalled from AHL Springfield on Friday.
Analysis: The 31-year-old Ryan Craig is probably just organizational depth at this stage in his career and isn't set to see much ice time. The Blue Jackets decided that youngster Tim Erixon was best off receiving regular playing time with Springfield, sending him down in a corresponding move to make room for Craig.

Columbus Re-Signs Craig

News: Ryan Craig signed a two-year, two-way deal with Columbus on Friday.
Analysis: Ryan Craig hasn't seen the NHL since 2010, so he will likely remain no more than an emergency depth player for the Blue Jackets.

Craig Waived by Pittsburgh

News: The Penguins placed Craig on waivers Tuesday afternoon, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Craig will likely join the Baby Pens unless another organization claims him by 3:00 PM Wednesday. Craig had a strong camp before a groin injury helped derail his chances of making the team.

Craig Dealing With Groin Injury

News: Craig is expected to miss his second straight day of practice Monday with a sore groin, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Craig is having a strong camp but could easily fall out of the race for making the team if he misses additional time. From a fantasy perspective, Craig doesn't score enough or fight enough to offer much help for poolies.

Craig's season likely over

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning LW Ryan Craig will likely miss the remaining three games of the season after suffering an injury to his left arm Friday against the Devils. Craig was wearing his arm in a sling after the game and missed Saturday's tilt with the Islanders.
Analysis: The 27-year-old forward has just six points in 54 games this season. He has primarily been bothered by a groin injury in 2008-09, but even when healthy, he just chews up lower-line minutes. Craig has little to no Fantasy value, so his absence is hardly being missed.

Craig has two goals in six games

News: Martin St. Louis, Andrej Meszaros and Ryan Craig scored during a 2:03 span of the second period to lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to their fourth victory in six games, 4-1 over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. Craig gave Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead at 16:51 with his second goal of the season. Both goals have come in the last six games.
Analysis: Craig has played just 24 games this season as he has battled a groin injury for most of the campaign. He has always been a marginal offensive weapon for the Lightning and has little to no Fantasy value.

Craig fights twice with Asham

News: Lightning LW Ryan Craig returned to the lineup Saturday against the Flyers in place of LW Evgeny Artyukhin, who was out with a groin injury. Craig didn't record a point in 6:57 of ice time, but got into two fights with Arron Asham.
Analysis: Craig dealt with his own groin injury earlier this season, so he feels Artyukhin pain. However, once everyone is healthy, Craig might be back on the inactive list. Continue to ignore Craig in all Fantasy formats.

Craig returns for Lightning Sat.

News: Tampa Bay C Ryan Craig returned to action from a groin injury on Saturday night against Ottawa. Craig played 8:21 on the ice and did not record any points in the game. He took two shots on goal.
Analysis: Craig returned to very limited action and is nothing more than a lower-line forward. He has marginal Fantasy appeal and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Craig still out of action Thurs.

News: Lightning C Ryan Craig (groin) did not return to action Thursday against the Senators. He has been out since injuring his groin in practice Oct. 8, but is once again skating an close to returning.
Analysis: When Craig is finally ready to dress, it will likely be as nothing more than a lower-line forward. He has marginal Fantasy appeal and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Craig getting closer to playing

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning LW Ryan Craig, who suffered a setback in his recovery from a groin strain he originally suffered Oct. 8, has returned to practice and declared he is close to being ready to play.
Analysis: When Craig is finally ready to dress, it will likely be as nothing more than a lower-line forward. He has marginal Fantasy appeal and can be ignored in Fantasy.

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning LW Ryan Craig suffered a setback in his recovery from a groin strain he suffered on Oct. 8. After missing two days of practice this week, however, Craig returned to skate with the team on Saturday.
Analysis: Craig has played in 127 NHL games, netting 30 goals and 57 points, and has very minimal Fantasy value. It's still best to keep him reserved until further notice.

Lightning re-sign Craig, ink Niskala

News: The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed restricted free agent C Ryan Craig to a two-year, $1.575 million contract on Wednesday. Craig missed 72 games last season due to back and knee injuries. The Lightning also signed D Janne Niskala to a one-year, $600,000 deal. He was acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday for a 2009 sixth-round draft choice.
Analysis: Craig has played in 127 NHL games, netting 30 goals and 57 points, and has very minimal Fantasy value. Niskala has a lot of work to do to become Fantasy viable, so it's safe to ignore him on Draft Day as well.

Craig undergoes knee surgery

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning C Ryan Craig underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a torn ACL and meniscus in his left knee. He's expected to miss up to six months, but will try to rehabilitate the knee quickly enough to rejoin the team in the event of a playoff run.
Analysis: That all puts an end on Craig's 2007-08 season. He has one goal and one assist in seven games. He has only played 127 games in his career, so he still has a long ways to go. But he can be dropped in all Fantasy formats as he is done for the season.

Ryan Craig remains sidelined

News: Ryan Craig (knee) was unable to play Tuesday at Atlanta.
Analysis: The Lightning have not announced any plans on when Craig might once again suit up. He is not a huge part of the gameplan, and he is merely a low-end Fantasy reserve when healthy.
