Wings' Datsyuk Expected To Miss Start Of Season

News: Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) doesn't expect to be ready for the start of the regular season in October, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: That said, the veteran forward doesn't expect to miss extended action out of the gate. "I'll miss only a little bit at the beginning of the season," he said Sunday. Pavel Datsyuk underwent surgery June 26 to repair ruptured tendons in his right ankle, and the original timetable of a four-to-six-week rehab period appears to have been overly optimistic. Doctors are now suggesting that a four-to-five-month timetable is more realistic, Brendan Savage of MLive.com reports. Datsyuk, who missed eight of the Red Wings' final 14 regular season games last season, scored 26 goals and 65 points in 63 contests before notching five points while suiting up for all seven of the team's playoff games.

Wings' Datsyuk Undergoes Ankle Surgery

News: Pavel Datsyuk underwent ankle surgery on Friday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk had the surgery done to repair several ruptured tendons he suffered in his ankle after blocking a shot in one of the final games of the Red Wings' regular season. He will be in a cast for four to six weeks, and will have his ankle reevaluated in three months. At this point in time, it seems that Datsyuk will likely miss at least a portion of Detroit's training camp, and may not even be ready to return to action at the start of the regular season.

Wings' Datsyuk Gets Eventual Game-Winner

News: Pavel Datsyuk's first-period goal Tuesday ended up being the game-winner in a 3-0 Game 3 victory.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk now has three points in three games for the Red Wings, good for best on the team. He has been a force in this series and should continue at about a point-a-game pace.

Datsyuk's Two Goals Lift Wings To Game 1 Win

News: Pavel Datsyuk scored at even strength and on the power play in Thursday's Game 1 victory over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: An ankle issue limited Pavel Datsyuk in the season's final days, but he looks to be over it. The brittle star will need to avoid picking up another injury, but if he can stay on the ice, The Magician will be a playoff difference-maker.

Wings' Datsyuk Practices Monday

News: Pavel Datsyuk was a full participant in practice Monday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk could have played Saturday but with the game virtually meaningless, the Red Wings gave him the game off. When he's been healthy this season, he's been lights out, so he should be a valuable asset in the playoffs.

Wings To Rest Datsyuk Saturday

News: Pavel Datsyuk will not play in Saturday's season finale against the Hurricanes, Ansar Khan of Mlive.com reports.
Analysis: With Pavel Datsyuk struggling to stay healthy the last month or so, the Red Wings don't want to take any chances with him in a largely meaningless game. He should be good to go for Game 1 of the playoffs.

Wings' Datsyuk Streaking To Finish Line

News: Pavel Datsyuk scored a goal and added an assist Thursday in a 4-3 overtime loss to Montreal.
Analysis: That's three straight with a point and 13 points in the last 11 contests for Pavel Datsyuk, who looks like he's healthy and ready to do some damage in the playoffs.

Wings' Datsyuk Shakes Off Ankle Ailment

News: Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) delivered an assist on the game-tying goal, then scored the game-winner Tuesday against Carolina.
Analysis: He was iffy before the game with the ankle ailment, which he appeared to have suffered or aggravated Sunday against Washington. But it didn't slow him down at all, as Pavel Datsyuk's strong campaign continues -- he's operated at better than a point-per-game pace, but unfortunately has only appeared in 62 contests this year due to injuries.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Appears Set To Play

News: Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) is taking part in line rushes and appears on track to play Tuesday against the Hurricanes, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings have Dan Cleary on the ice as an extra skater, but Pavel Datsyuk's involvement on line rushes with Darren Helm and Henrik Zetterberg suggests he's set to play. Lower-body injuries have put Datsyuk's status in question for seemingly the last several weeks on an ongoing basis, but he's an easy lineup inclusion whenever he's guaranteed to play. He's tallied 24 goals and 61 points across his 61 games.

Wings' Datsyuk On Track To Play Tuesday

News: Coach Mike Babcock expects Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) to play Tuesday against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk wasn't on the ice for the Wings' morning skate, but it appears as though he's on track to give it a go Tuesday, an outcome that would be supported by his presence in warmups as the Wings' 7:30 ET faceoff approaches.

Wings' Datsyuk Skips Morning Skate

News: Pavel Datsyuk (ankle) did not participate in the Wings' morning skate, but GM Ken Holland suggested that the forward will participate in warmups in advance of Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Unless his status is further clarified as the day progresses, we'll view Pavel Datsyuk -- who may have re-aggravated his ankle injury Sunday -- as a game-day call for the Wings' 7:30 ET faceoff on Tuesday.

Wings' Datsyuk May Have Tweaked Ankle

News: Though he was able to finish Sunday's game against the Caps, Pavel Datsyuk appeared to re-aggravate his ankle injury early in the third period of the contest, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: With Justin Abdelkader not expected to play Tuesday against the Hurricanes and Pavel Datsyuk's status to be determined, the Red Wings recalled fellow forward Landon Ferraro from AHL Grand Rapids on Monday. In two games since returning to the Detroit lineup after a two-contest absence, Datsyuk has recorded one assist.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Says He'll Return

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) said Friday that he will return for Saturday's game against the Wild, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk was expected back for Thursday's game against the Bruins, but it sounds as if he's confident this time around. His optimism seems to be justifiable, given that he was a full participant in Friday's practice, where he skated on the Red Wings' second line and saw involvement in power-play drills. While owners should still check back, Datsyuk will likely be fine for the final five games of the season.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Practicing Friday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (upper body) is practicing Friday, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk was expected to return for Thursday's game against the Bruins but ultimately didn't end up playing. He now hopes to be back for Saturday's game against the Wild, and it seems he has a decent chance to suit up. Meanwhile, both Tomas Jurco (upper body) and Erik Cole (upper body) were absent from Friday's practice.

Wings' Datsyuk Out Thursday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) won't play Thursday against the Bruins, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Khan previously relayed during the Wings' morning skate that it appeared as though Pavel Datsyuk's ankle was still bothering him. Whether or not that's the issue, Datsyuk hopes to play Saturday against the Wild.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Expected Back Thursday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) is expected to return to the lineup Thursday against the Bruins, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk didn't skate Wednesday morning a day after being scratched against the Senators with the lower-body injury, but the Red Wings don't seem to believe he suffered a setback upon his return to the lineup over the previous weekend. The team could just be playing it safe with the center with the playoffs approaching, so if he's able to complete Thursday's morning skate without incident, he'll likely draw back into the lineup.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Sits Out Tuesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) isn't on the ice for pregame warmups and will not play Tuesday against the Senators, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk returned from a lower-body injury over the weekend to play in back-to-back games, the latter of in which he picked up a goal and assist. However, it appears he might have aggravated something while playing, as he'll now be forced out of his 17th game of the season due to injury. Having Datsyuk healthy for the postseason is paramount to the Red Wings' potential success, so it wouldn't be a surprise if the team limited the forward a bit over the final few games of the regular season.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Notches Two Points

News: Pavel Datsyuk netted his 24th goal of the season and had an assist in Sunday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: After returning to the lineup Saturday against Tampa Bay, it didn't take long for the 36-year-old to return to form Sunday against New York. He's now got 60 points in 59 games and should be an automatic roll whenever he's in action.

Wings' Datsyuk Returns To Lineup Saturday

News: Pavel Datsyuk had two shots and no points in his return to the lineup Saturday in a 4-0 victory over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk had missed the last five games with a lower body injury and helped Detroit to a big win over a possible first-round playoff opponent. He should be solid for the rest of the season, as the Red Wings made absolutely sure he was 100 percent before letting him back in the lineup.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Looks To Be In

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) is participating in pregame warmups and looks to be back in the lineup Saturday against the Lightning, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings didn't appear to be skating any extra forwards in warmups, so it looks safe to count Pavel Datsyuk after the forward missed the past five games. Staying healthy has been a bit of an issue for Datsyuk this season, but he's managed to deliver elite production when healthy. He has compiled 23 goals, 35 assists, and a plus-11 rating over his 57 games.

Wings' Datsyuk A Game-Time Decision Saturday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's tilt with the Lightning, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk has appeared to be on the cusp of a return for some time, but it still remains up in the air if he'll be able to play for yet another game. On a positive note, Datsyuk was able to take part in line rushes with Tomas Tatar and Darren Helm during Friday's practice, while also skating on one of the Red Wings' power-play units. With the team not holding a morning skate ahead of Saturday's 2:00 ET puck drop, look for Datsyuk's availability to be determined during pregame warmups.

Wings' Datsyuk (Lower Body) Remains Out

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) will not play Thursday against the Sharks.
Analysis: It was thought Pavel Datsyuk would be back by Thursday at the latest, but he just can't seem to shake this injury. The Red Wings also don't want to endanger Datsyuk's chances of aggravating the ailment before the playoffs, so getting him back quickly hasn't been a huge priority. His next shot to play is Saturday against Tampa Bay.

Wings' Datsyuk A Candidate To Play Thursday

News: General manager Ken Holland said that Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) could play Thursday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk has been sidelined the last four games with the lower-body injury, after the Red Wings originally projected him to miss half that timetable. He's been able to skate the last couple of days to provide some evidence that he's getting healthier, but his status for Thursday's game may not be known for certain until after the Red Wings complete their morning skate.

Wings' Datsyuk Out Tuesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) will not play in Tuesday's game against the Coyotes, according to Ansar Khan of MLive.com.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock has stated there aren't any lineup changes Tuesday, so Pavel Datsyuk will rest up for another game. Signs point to a return for Thursday's tilt with the Sharks, but he will need to endure no further setbacks with the injury before being cleared to play.

Wings' Datsyuk Iffy For Tuesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (lower body) isn't optimistic about playing Tuesday against the Coyotes, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk, who the report notes is dealing with a lingering lower-body injury, thus appears to have a better chance of suiting up Thursday against the Sharks, assuming no setbacks in practice.
