Red Wings' Datsyuk Feeling Good Heaing Into Camp

News: Coach Mike Babcock relayed that Pavel Datsyuk (knee) said he was feeling "the best he has in years" this offseason, suggesting he'll be ready to go for training camp, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: Considering Pavel Datsyuk hasn't played since late April, it's no surprise he's feeling spry, but there's serious questions he'll hold up for 82 games as he enters his age-34 campaign. He's missed a total of 76 games over his last four seasons, muting the impact of the nearly point-per-game production he provides when healthy. Considering his injury history, Datsyuk might not be worth the markup price his name will cost fantasy players on draft day.

Wings' Datsyuk Mulls Knee Options

News: GM Ken Holland noted that it has yet to be decided whether Pavel Datsyuk will undergo a minor knee procedure this offseason, mlive.com reports. "It has to be determined whether four months off and a commitment to the gym will give him the power and the quickness we're used to," Holland said.
Analysis: The alternative to surgery is rest and rehab, but even if Pavel Datsyuk does have a procedure done to remove possible dead tissue in his left knee, he'd be looking a three-month recovery period, so his status for the 2014-15 season would presumably not be impacted. Datsyuk was limited to 45 games this past season, recording 17 goals and 37 points in the process.

Datsyuk Not Enough In Wings Loss

News: Pavel Datsyuk scored once and assisted on Detroit's other goal in Saturday's 4-2 loss to Boston that saw the Wings eliminated from the playoffs.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk finished the five-game series with four points in the final two games, both Detroit losses. His individual effort in Game 1 gave Detroit its lone win of the series but even Datsyuk couldn't do everything against a superior opponent in Boston.

Datsyuk's Two Points Not Enough For Wings

News: Pavel Datsyuk assisted on Niklas Kronwall's power-play goal and gave the Red Wings a 2-0 lead with his own goal in the second period, but they blew the lead and took a Game 4 loss to Boston, 3-2 in overtime.
Analysis: A loss like that can really take the air out of your tires, and the Wings have to be feeling particularly deflated now that they've lost three straight, including two at home, after winning Game 1. Pavel Datsyuk scored Game 1's only goal, then had been quiet in the second and third games (scoreless with just one shot in each), so it's good to see him get more involved again. But it might be too late with the Wings down 3-1.

Datsyuk Grabs Wings' Winner

News: Pavel Datsyuk scored the only goal in Friday's 1-0 win over Boston in Game 1 of their Atlantic Division semifinal series, his 37th career playoff goal.
Analysis: The goal was a Pavel Datsyukian effort in every sense of the word as the Russian wizard collected the puck near his own zone by casually reaching behind him with one hand and pulling the puck up to his stick. After that it was simply a matter of skating through the Bruins defense and beating Tuukka Rask. Datsyuk will need to be at his best to continue Detroit's momentum against a strong Boston squad.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Gathers Two Assists In Finale

News: Pavel Datsyuk assisted on two goals in Sunday's regular season finale against the Blues.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk has returned in strong fashion after missing over a month with a knee injury, accumulating four points in his six games since coming back. The Red Wings will count on him to be a focal point of their attack as they enter their 23rd consecutive postseason appearance.

Wings' Datsyuk Looking Strong

News: Pavel Datsyuk scored a goal for the second straight game in Tuesday's win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Despite having played in just three games since missing more than a month with a knee issue, Pavel Datsyuk's looking playoff-ready. He should be in your fantasy lineups for the season's final games -- unless the Wings decide to rest him.

Wings' Datsyuk: First Point Since Injury Return

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) scored a power-play goal in a loss Saturday to the Canadiens.
Analysis: It's his first point since his return from injury. Be careful with his activation this coming week. The Wings will be careful with him -- and maybe even rest him -- if they've secured a playoff spot.

Red Wings' Datsyuk A Game-Time Decision

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) will be a game-time decision Saturday against the Senators, Brendan Savage of MLive reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk finally returned Friday, and while no setback was reported after the game, it may be the case that Detroit wants to ease its injured superstar back into action.

Wings' Datsyuk Pointless In Return

News: Pavel Datsyuk had one shot on goal in 17:45 of ice time in Detroit's 3-2 win over Buffalo. The game was his return from a knee injury that has kept him out of the lineup since the Olympics.
Analysis: All is getting better in Detroit as the Wings welcome back their all-world center as they cling to the East's first wild card spot in the season's final week. Pavel Datsyuk is a special player and a welcomed sight to owners who've been enduring his absence. Hopefully you were able to stay as alive in the title race as Detroit has without him.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Confirms He'll Play Friday

News: After taking part in Thursday's practice, Pavel Datsyuk confirmed on Twitter that he will be back in the lineup Friday against the Sabres, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk will see action for the first time since Feb. 27, as his knee's been holding up fine since he resumed skating last week. He's slated to center the second line with Darren Helm and Justin Abdelkader on Friday.

Detroit's Datsyuk May Play Friday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) skated Thursday and it appears he expects to play Friday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: As the final push for the playoffs comes to a head, the Red Wings need all hands on deck, especially one of their most talented players. How Pavel Datsyuk feels Friday will ultimately dictate his availability, but his return looks likely at this point.

Wings' Datsyuk Won't Play Wednesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) will not play Wednesday night against the Bruins.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk took part in the team's morning skate Wednesday, but won't be available when the team takes the ice. The star center hasn't suited up since Feb. 27, and made no mention of Friday's contest with the Sabres. He racked up 15 goals and 18 assists in 39 games before getting hurt.

Wings' Datsyuk Making Progress

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) indicated that he will skate Wednesday morning, and there's a chance he could play in that evening's contest against the Bruins, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: That said, Pavel Datsyuk acknowledged that his conditioning is not quite up to speed, with the report suggesting that a return to action Friday against the Sabres seems like a more realistic scenario for the forward.

Wings' Datsyuk Skates Again

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) skated during the Red Wings' optional practice Wednesday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: It's encouraging that Pavel Datsyuk was able to skate for the second time in three days, but GM Ken Holland was quick to point out that there's no chance the center will suit up for Thursday's game against the Canadiens. As long as the team is hanging around in the playoff picture, though, there's a chance Datsyuk could return for the last couple games.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Resumes Skating

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) took to the ice for some light skating Monday.
Analysis: It was his first time skating since being shut down with the knee injury three weeks ago. Time is running out for Pavel Datsyuk to return for games before the end of the season, but if he continues to make progress over the next week or so and the Red Wings remain in the thick of the playoff race, a late cameo can't be ruled out.

Red Wings' Datsyuk To Miss Three Weeks

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) will be out for the next three weeks, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: GM Ken Holland said Pavel Datsyuk would not require surgery, but will instead be reevaluated after three weeks with the hope that he's put his knee issues behind him by that point. Datsyuk's long-term absence certainly explains Wednesday's acquisition of David Legwand, who figures to assume most of Datsyuk's duties at center. That being said, Legwand will have a tough time replicating the near point-per-game production Datsyuk has provided over the last few seasons for the Red Wings.

Red Wings' Datysuk Will Not Play Thursday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Avalanche, Chuck Pleiness of the Macomb Daily reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk apparently hasn't shown enough improvement in his recovery from the knee injury despite not practicing the last several days. The Red Wings will be patient with him so as not to rush him back into the lineup before he's ready, but his absence really hurts the team with injuries at the center spot starting to pile up again.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Skips Practice

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) did not practice Wednesday, Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News reports.
Analysis: Even if Pavel Datsyuk was feeling better and deemed ready to play for Thursday's game against the Avs, the Red Wings seem content to limit his practice time the rest of the season just to be on the safe side. The team could wait until Thursday's morning skate before announcing Datsyuk's status for the game.

Red Wings' Datsyuk To Miss Tuesday's Game

News: GM Ken Holland said Pavel Datsyuk (knee) will be held out of Tuesday's game against the Devils, MLive.com's Ansar Khan reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings gave Pavel Datsyuk a break from practice over the weekend with the hope that it would aid his recovery after he was forced out of last Thursday's game prematurely, but he's apparently still slowed by the injury. For now, Holland is optimistic that Datsyuk will play this coming Thursday against the Devils, but that could be subject to change if he fails to make much progress over the next couple of days.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Given Weekend Off

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) has been given the weekend off to rest up, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings are hoping to have Pavel Datsyuk at his best for the playoff push, so they're giving him the weekend off to heal his ailing knee. He likely won't miss any games, but don't expect him to practice much for the rest of the season.

Wings' Datsyuk Will Play Wednesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk (knee) will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Canadiens, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk battled through some lingering knee pain during the Olympics, but it sounds like he's feeling well enough to suit up Wednesday. The star center recorded 15 goals and 18 assists in 37 games before getting hurt prior to the Olympic break.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Hopes To Play Wednesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk is still feeling pain in his knee, but hopes to play Wednesday, Ansar Khan of MLive reports.
Analysis: It was assumed Pavel Datsyuk would be good to go for Wednesday's game after playing well at the Olympics, but it appears his knee is still sore. In all likelihood, he will play, but practice on Tuesday instilled a little doubt. The Red Wings need Datsyuk in the lineup with their other big scorer, Henrik Zetterberg, out for the rest of the regular season.

Wings Expect Datsyuk Back Tuesday

News: Pavel Datsyuk is expected to be back in Detroit for practice Tuesday and then play in Wednesday's game, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Pavel Datsyuk came into the Olympics hampered by a knee injury but didn't show it, tallying five points in five games. Detroit will be happy to have a healthy Datsyuk back, especially with Henrik Zetterberg out indefinitely.

Red Wings' Datsyuk Dishes Out Three In Russian Win

News: Pavel Datsyuk picked up three assists for the Russians in their qualifying-round victory over Norway on Tuesday.
Analysis: Despite coming into the Olympics hobbled by a lower-body injury, Pavel Datsyuk has now compiled five points over his four contests in Sochi. While the Red Wings would surely prefer that he take the extended break to rest up, he'll be back on the ice Wednesday against Finland, with the Russians looking to advance to the semifinals.
