Pens' Scuderi Helps Out Tuesday

News: Rob Scuderi was credited with an assist in Tuesday's overtime loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi only has nine points in 80 games this season, as he's mostly tasked with shot-blocking duties in front of the Pens' net. Perhaps his greatest attribute this season has been staying healthy, as all of Olli Maatta, Kris Letang, Paul Martin, and Christian Ehrhoff have missed significant time due to injuries.

Pens' Scuderi Returns To Action

News: Rob Scuderi (foot) returned to action Sunday against the Blue Jackets, logging 18:26 of ice time.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi hurt his foot in the Penguins' previous game against the Capitals last Wednesday, but the team's three-day break in the schedule before Sunday's game afforded him enough recovery time. Christian Ehrhoff sat out Sunday to accommodate Scuderi's placement in the lineup.

Pens' Scuderi Skates Saturday

News: Rob Scuderi (foot) participated in Saturday's practice, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi had been off the ice since logging 16:47 of action in Wednesday's win over the Penguins, but his return to practice suggests he might be available for the Pens' next game Sunday against the Blue Jackets. The team should have a clearer idea on Scuderi's status before pregame warmups.

Pens' Scuderi Dealing With Ailing Foot

News: Rob Scuderi missed Thursday's practice with a suspected foot injury, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Rob Scuderi might have taken a shot off his foot during Wednesday's win over the Capitals, but the defenseman indicated he's not dealing with a fracture or anything serious. The Penguins will see if Scuderi is able to get in a skate within the next couple of days before determining his status for Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets.

Pens' Scuderi Picks Up Rare Assist

News: Rob Scuderi registered an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's win over the Flames.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi has no goals and six assists in 52 games. With no lofty hit, block, or PIM totals to make up for his lack of offense, Scuderi will have difficulty carving out fantasy value in any format.

Pens' Scuderi Out-Points Sidney Crosby On Tuesday

News: Rob Scuderi tallied two assists in a 4-1 win in Minnesota on Tuesday.
Analysis: The stay-at-home defenseman went out for dinner and came back with his first two helpers of the year. Rob Scuderi, who continues to skate with Simon Despres on the Pens' third pairing, also collected three blocked shots. The 35-year-old is in the second year of a four-year, $13.5 million deal. He's picked up his play after a dismal 2013-14, but has little fantasy value outside of leagues that reward blocked shots.

Pens' Scuderi Staying Consistent

News: Rob Scuderi has two assists in 29 games at the Olympic break.
Analysis: The blueliner doesn't usually chip in on offense much, so his steady play on the back end is probably more valuable to the Penguins than it is to fantasy owners.

Pens' Scuderi Activated From Injured Reserve

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) was activated from injured reserve and will play Sunday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Team doctors gave Rob Scuderi a clean bill a health earlier this week, and the 34-year-old is set to return Sunday following a two-month stint on the shelf with the ankle injury. He'll pair up with Robert Bortuzzo.

Pens' Scuderi A Possibility For Sunday's Game

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) could return from injured reserve for Sunday's game vs. the Blue Jackets, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi has received full medical clearance from doctors to play in games and is just waiting for coach Dan Bylsma to choose to use him in his lineup. The Penguins are still without blueliners Kris Letang and Paul Martin, making Scuderi's impending return a welcome development for the team's defensive effort.

Pens' Scuderi Set To Receive Bone Scan

News: Rob Scuderi is scheduled to receive a bone scan on his fractured ankle Thursday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: If Rob Scuderi receives news that is ankle is healing as expected, he'd likely receive clearance for full practices, rejoining the lineup after logging a few sessions. The defenseman last played Oct. 26 before suffering the fracture.

Pens' Scuderi Nearing Return

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) is expected to return Dec. 27 at Carolina, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi has missed more than the last two months. He has one assist and 19 blocks in 11 games for the Pens.

Pens' Scuderi Inching Close To Return

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) is closing in on a return to the lineup, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: It seems plausible that Rob Scuderi could be activated for either of the team's two contests before Christmas, but any decision on that front likely wouldn't happen until the conclusion of Saturday's morning skate. When Scuderi does finally return, he won't be rejoining typical defensive mate Kris Letang, who has since landed on IR with an upper-body injury.

Penguins' Scuderi Skates Monday

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) returned to practice Monday for the Penguins, Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi was able to skate on his own and worked on the fourth line defensive pairing for the Penguins in practice. His return date is still uncertain, but it appears he took a big step in the right direction Monday.

Pens' Scuderi Could Return To Practice Soon

News: Coach Dan Bylsma said it's possible that Rob Scuderi (ankle) could return to practice next week, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi had been doing largely off-ice rehab workouts since undergoing surgery for a broken ankle in late October. He's closing in on the six-week mark of the six-to-eight week timetable he was originally given following the procedure, so it appears he's right on schedule with his recovery at the moment.

Pens' Scuderi To Ramp Up Rehab Soon

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) is expected to ramp up his rehab in the next week or so, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi's rehab has been moving along "at a moderate rate," according to coach Dan Bylsma, but he'll increase the intensity of his workouts soon. His timetable was set at 6-to-8 weeks after suffering the ankle injury.

Pens' Scuderi Begins Minimal Rehab Work

News: Rob Scuderi (ankle) has begun minimal activities during his rehabilitation, Shelly Anderson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: The defenseman underwent surgery two weeks ago for a broken ankle and probably won't hit the ice until next month. He remains on a 6-8-week timetable for his recovery.

Pens' Scuderi Undergoes Surgery

News: Rob Scuderi underwent successful surgery on his ankle Wednesday.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi has been ruled out indefinitely as a result of the procedure. Though not nearly as prolific offensively as defensive partner Kris Letang, Scuderi does provide quality protection on the blue line for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pens' Scuderi Out Indefinitely

News: Rob Scuderi has a broken ankle and will be out indefinitely, the team's website reports.
Analysis: Pittsburgh's defense will miss the stay-at-home blueliner, as will goalie Marc-Andre Fleury. Look for Robert Bortuzzo, Deryk Engelland and possibly Simon Despres to come off the bench as the Pens' sixth defenseman.

Pens' Scuderi Leaves Saturday

News: Rob Scuderi left Saturday's game with an apparent left leg injury and is not expected to return.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi has little value in fantasy due to a lack of scoring ability, but his loss would make things tougher for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, as he's one of the better defensive defensemen in the NHL.

Scuderi Back In Pittsburgh

News: Rob Scuderi signed a four-year contract with the Penguins worth an average of $3.375 million per season, according to the Penguins' official site.
Analysis: Rob Scuderi was a member of their Cup-winning side in 2009 and also won a Cup with Los Angeles in 2012. He brings a veteran presence to the blue line as well as some of the defensive presence they need on a team that has been spotty in its own end.

Kings' Scuderi Has Multi-Point Night

News: Rob Scuderi had a pair of assists in Wednesday's win over Calgary.
Analysis: Considering that he doubled his season output with the two-point effort Wednesday, Rob Scuderi is best left on the waiver wire in most formats as he doesn't offer much in the depth categories either (10 hits, 11 blocked shots entering Wednesday's game).

Kings' Scuderi To Play Monday

News: Scuderi will play Monday despite missing practice Sunday and the morning skate Monday, the Kings' official site reports.
Analysis: He's a stay-at-home type, more valuable to Jonathan Quick and the Kings' blue line as a whole rather than fantasy owners.

Scuderi doesn't miss a game

News: Kings D Rob Scuderi was able to play Thursday against the Oilers after leaving Monday's game with flu-like symptoms. He tallied an assist and plus-1 rating in 21:04 of ice time. It was his eighth assist and first point in eight games.
Analysis: Scuderi has no goals in 51 games. We are not shocked by Scuderi's low offensive output because we have seen this before. He has always been more of a defensive stopper in his career. Scuderi has little Fantasy value in standard leagues, but is a nice option in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats when healthy.

Scuderi leaves game with illness

News: Kings D Rob Scuderi left Monday's game against the Ducks with flu-like symptoms. He had no points in 9:49 of ice time and finished at even. He has no points in his last seven games.
Analysis: Scuderi missed some time in November and early December with a lower-body injury, but he hasn't had a setback in that regard. Scuderi has no goals in 50 games and has only seven assists. We are not shocked by Scuderi's low offensive output because we have seen this before. He has always been more of a defensive stopper in his career. Scuderi has little Fantasy value in standard leagues, but is a nice option in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats when healthy.

Scuderi back from eight-game absence

News: Kings D Rob Scuderi returned to the lineup on Monday against the Flames after missing eight games with a lower-body injury. He totaled no points in 18:29 of ice time and finished at even. Scuderi has not tallied a point since Oct. 8.
Analysis: We are not shocked by Scuderi's low offensive output because we have seen this before. He has always been more of a defensive stopper in his career. Scuderi has little Fantasy value in standard leagues, but is a nice option in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats when healthy.
