Caps' Ward Pots Goal In Loss

News: Joel Ward scored a power play goal in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames.
Analysis: After posting a career-high 24 goals last season, Joel Ward is on pace to reach somewhere in the 30-40 range. He may not get there, but he seems to be building on last year's 49 point campaign, and could be a worthwhile pick up.

Caps' Ward Tallies Two Goals In Win

News: Joel Ward netted two goals in 16:20 of ice time in Saturday's win over Calgary.
Analysis: A dominant performance from Joel Ward, who opened the scoring with a power-play tally in the first period, before scoring the eventual game-winning goal at even strength in the second period. Although his fourth-line role isn't ideal for fantasy owners, Ward has still managed four goals in seven games this season, making him worth a look in deep leagues. His great shot comes in use on the power play, where he lines up on the Capitals' second unit. Expect another 20-goal season from the 33-year-old.

Caps' Ward Pots Goal In Victory

News: Joel Ward scored his second goal of the season in Thursday's 6-2 win over the Devils.
Analysis: Joel Ward's unassisted marker with 17:35 remaining in the third period resulted in the Devils removing goalie Cory Schneider from the game. The winger is off to a respectable start to the 2014-15 campaign, but don't expect him to repeat last season's 24-goal, 49-point performance, which was aided heavily by an unsustainable 18 percent shooting rate.

Caps' Ward Tallies Assist In Sunday's Win

News: Joel Ward had an assist and two PIM's in 17:25 of ice time during the Capitals' 1-0 win over Buffalo on Sunday.
Analysis: Joel Ward played with Jason Chimera and rookie Andre Burakovsky at even-strength. Like Chimera, Ward had a banner year last season. Although the two have great chemistry, it wouldn't be surprising to see his production regress some this season. Keep an eye on him, but he's probably only worth drafting in deeper leagues.

Caps' Ward To Play In World Championship

News: Joel Ward has been selected to Team Canada's roster for the upcoming IIHF World Championships in Belarus, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: Joel Ward had a career year in his third season with the Capitals. Part of one of the more formidable third lines in the NHL this season, Ward compiled career highs with 24 goals and 49 points while spending most of the season alongside Jason Chimera and Eric Fehr. Entering the final season of a four-year, $12 million contact, Ward will have plenty of incentive to build on this year's campaign, and is certainly worth keeping an eye on in later rounds of next season's fantasy drafts.

Banner Year Rolls On For Caps' Ward

News: Joel Ward supplied a goal and two assists in Thursday's 5-2 victory over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Joel Ward continues to put his previous career-best numbers for a season in the dust, boosting his goal and assists totals to 24 apiece in both categories. He's provided at least a point in three straight contests.

Goals In Four Straight For Caps' Ward

News: Joel Ward scored for the fourth consecutive game Thursday in Los Angeles, tallying the Caps' only goal in a 2-1 shootout loss.
Analysis: The marker came on his only shot of the game -- the second time that's happened in these four games. At age 33, Joel Ward has a stunning 22 goals and 42 points on the season -- both easily career highs.

Goal Streak Rages On For Caps' Ward

News: Joel Ward scored a goal in his third straight game in Tuesday's win over the Ducks.
Analysis: We're barely halfway through March, but Joel Ward is already enjoying his second-most productive offensive month of the season, as he's totaled four goals and four assists in 10 games. He could be worthy of adding in deeper leagues while he remains hot.

Caps' Ward Adds Two More Points

News: Joel Ward contributed a goal and assist in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: With the Leafs holding Alexander Ovechkin to just one shot on goal in the game, third-liners Joel Ward and Jason Chimera stepped up to buoy the Capitals' attack. Ward's first-period power-play tally allowed him to reach the 20-goal plateau for the first time in his career.

Caps' Ward Starting To Heat Up

News: Joel Ward provided a goal in Wednesday's loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: That's three straight games in which Joel Ward has provided points for the Capitals. He doesn't see a lot of ice time as a member of the third line, but his presence on the power play presents him with more scoring opportunities than his overall minutes might suggest.

Two-Point Game For Caps' Ward

News: Joel Ward notched a goal and assist in Saturday's 4-2 victory over the Bruins.
Analysis: Improved health has allowed Joel Ward to make a run at establishing a new personal-best in scoring this season, as he's now matched the career-high 35 points he previously posted with the Predators back in 2008-09. With 21 games remaining on the Capitals' schedule, expect Ward to surpass that total with ease.

Capitals' Ward Expected To Play Saturday

News: Joel Ward (personal), who was granted leave from Friday's practice for personal reasons, took the morning skate and is expected to dress for Saturday night's match against New Jersey, Adam Vingan of NBC4 Washington reports.
Analysis: Joel Ward should be good to go for the Caps' pre-Olympic finale against New Jersey on Saturday. With 17 goals, Ward is second only to Alex Ovechkin for the team goal lead, and has two goals and an assist in his last three games. He will face a stingy Devils team that has allowed two goals against or less in four straight games.

Capitals' Ward Tallies Three Points

News: Joel Ward scored two goals, including a power-play score, and had an assist versus the Red Wings on Sunday.
Analysis: Joel Ward is finally putting up the kind of numbers the Capitals hoped for when they signed him. He has 17 goals and 33 points in 56 games. He's already tied his career high in goals, and is two points away from his high in points.

Caps' Ward Riding Four-Game Point Streak

News: Joel Ward's assist during Sunday's 2-1 shootout loss to Buffalo was his fourth point in as many games.
Analysis: With 27 points in 45 games so far this year, Joel Ward is on pace to easily surpass the career-high 35 points he posted back in 2008-09. Ward is a steady-eddie performer who boasts modest fantasy value in medium to deeper formats - don't be afraid to snap him up if he's still available in your league.

Caps' Ward On Career Pace

News: Joel Ward scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's overtime loss to the Devils.
Analysis: He has 11 each of goals and assists, and he's on a career pace that has 50 points as a possibility. There's real value in his game, particularly in deep formats. Don't be afraid to take a chance on him.

Ward Scores In Washington Loss

News: Joel Ward grabbed his 10th goal of the season in Friday's loss to Florida.
Analysis: Joel Ward has already surpassed his goal totals in each of the last two seasons and appears poised to make a run at 20-plus goals for the Caps. He's not shooting the puck terribly often but he's finding the net with more regularity. He has two points over the last four games.

Caps' Ward Posts Two Assists In Loss

News: Joel Ward recorded two assists in Wednesday's loss to the Senators.

Surprising Goal Output Continues For Caps' Ward

News: Joel Ward scored his ninth goal of the year Tuesday in an overtime win over the Jackets.
Analysis: That's three consecutive games with a goal for the veteran winger, who's nearly averaging a marker every two games. His previous career high is 17, set back in 2008, and he looks to be on pace to obliterate that. Joel Ward's already got one more goal than he scored all of last year, and three more than he scored the year before.

Caps' Ward Doubles Goal Totals

News: Joel Ward snagged a hat trick in Friday's win over Philadelphia, doubling his season's goal total to six.
Analysis: Joel Ward has 10 points through 13 games for the Caps and cannot be entirely discounted despite the regression most expect will be coming. Ward has more value to the Capitals than most fantasy leagues, as much of what he does on the ice is not measurable in the box score.

News: Joel Ward (illness) did not practice Thursday, the Washington Post reports.

Caps' Ward Returns In Game 1

News: Joel Ward returned to the ice in a 3-1 win over the Rangers in Game 1 on Thursday.
Analysis: Joel Ward last played on April 7, when he took a puck to the knee. He had 8 goals and 12 assists in the regular season. Ward skated for just over eight minutes and is a welcome sight for the Caps' defense that continues to allow opposing offenses high shot totals.

News: Joel Ward acknowledges that he is dealing with a little lingering discomfort in his bruised left knee, Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Joel Ward still hopes to suit up for Thursday's playoff opener against the Rangers, with further clarity on that front likely to come after the team's morning game-day skate.
