Panthers' Upshall Scores Winning Goal Saturday

News: Scottie Upshall netted his seventh goal of the season, the game winner, against the Sabres on Saturday.
Analysis: This was Scottie Upshall's second goal in four games after not scoring a goal since Dec. 28. He is not a high volume shooter, nor does he pick up penalty minutes and has seen inconsistent amounts of ice time, logging only 10:42 on Saturday, and as a result has limited fantasy value.

Panthers' Upshall Scores In Loss

News: Scottie Upshall scored the team's lone goal in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall's tally ends a 21 game drought without a goal, and though he's gotten on the scoresheet in just two of his last 15 games, they've both been in his last three contests. Still, the winger has just 13 points in 44 games and sports a minus-3 rating, so his fantasy value is restricted to the deepest formats.

Panthers' Upshall Records Assist In Win

News: Scottie Upshall notched an assist and posted a plus-1 in Thursday's shootout win over the Canadiens.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall scored his first point since Jan. 11 and has struggled offensively this season. After a career high 37 points last season, which included 15 goals and 22 assists, Upshall has just 12 points this season. He has minimal fantasy value unless he can string together good performances consistently.

Panthers' Upshall Takes Three Shots In Win

News: Scottie Upshall took three shots on goal in Tuesday night's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall has just one point since he scored his last goal on Dec. 28. The 31-year-old is not a high-volume shooter and doesn't pick up penalty minutes and as a result has limited fantasy value.

Panthers' Upshall Slated To Sit

News: Scottie Upshall is in line to be a scratch from Monday's lineup against the Canucks, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall, who has recorded just one helper on his last 10 games, is slated to sit Monday, which -- due to the NHL All-Star break -- means that his next chance to suit up won't come until Jan. 27 against the Red Wings.

Panthers' Upshall Producing Since Return

News: Scottie Upshall scored Florida's lone regulation goal and fired off a season-high six shots in Thursday's 2-1 shootout win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall's found his way onto the scoresheet in both games since being activated from IR, having tallied an assist in his return Tuesday. But he's averaged less than 11 minutes over these two games, which is not conducive to consistent offensive production.

Panthers Activate Upshall From Injured Reserve

News: The Panthers activated Scottie Upshall (ankle) from injured reserve Tuesday.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall made it through Tuesday's morning skate, so he will be in the lineup Tuesday night for the first time since Nov. 24.

Panthers' Upshall Cleared To Play

News: Scottie Upshall (ankle) has been cleared to play, Matthew DeFranks of the Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: There's still no word on Scottie Upshall's status for Tuesday's game against the Capitals, so keep an eye out for an update after Tuesday's morning skate. The winger hasn't played since Nov. 24, but racked up three goals and four assists in 17 games before getting hurt.

Panthers' Upshall Won't Be Activated Friday

News: Scottie Upshall (ankle) won't be activated from injured reserve in advance of Friday's game against the Red Wings, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall declared he was good to go after practicing fully Thursday, but coach Gerard Gallant appears inclined to wait a little longer before bringing the forward into the fold. Friday's game will mark the first game of a back-to-back, so it's possible that the Panthers simply didn't want to have Upshall play two days in a row immediately upon his return. Upshall could have a better shot at playing Saturday in Buffalo.

Panthers' Upshall Expected To Play Friday

News: Scottie Upshall (ankle) is expected to play Friday against the Red Wings, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall turned in a solid practice while skating with the rest of the team in Detroit on Thursday and should be able to punch his ticket back into the lineup with his participation in Friday's morning skate. The Panthers only have 21 players on their 23-man roster at the moment, so the team wouldn't need to clear a spot for his activation from IR.

Panthers' Upshall To Practice Thursday

News: Scottie Upshall (ankle) is expected to practice with the team Thursday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall hasn't been ruled out from playing in Friday's game against the Red Wings, but because he's missed over two weeks with the injury, it seems unlikely that he'll find his way back into the lineup right away. Instead, Upshall will probably need to take part in back-to-back practices without any limitations before the Panthers feel comfortable activating him from IR.

Panthers' Upshall (Ankle) Could Play Friday

News: Scottie Upshall (ankle) won't travel with the team to St. Louis, but could meet the team in Detroit on Friday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall resumed skating Friday and is working his way back from an injury that sent him to the disabled list Nov. 27. The team should update his availability at some point before Friday's contest.

Panthers' Upshall To Skate Friday

News: Scottie Upshall (leg) will resume skating Friday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall will take the ice Friday for the first time since injuring his leg in late November. It's not clear how much practice time he will need before he is declared ready to play, but it would seem he has a chance to return to action sometime next week.

Panthers Place Upshall On IR

News: Scottie Upshall (leg) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: The Panthers made the move in order to free up a roster spot for goalie Dan Ellis, who was recalled from AHL San Antonio in the wake of Roberto Luongo suffering an injury Wednesday night. In addition to placing Scottie Upshall on IR, the Panthers also pushed his estimated return timetable back from one week to two weeks, according to Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Look for him to return to action around mid-December.

Panthers' Upshall (Ankle) To Miss A Week

News: Scottie Upshall will miss at least a week due to an apparent ankle injury, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall missed two games last week due to a lower-body injury, and suffered a setback upon returning to the lineup Monday against the Wild. The winger was spotted wearing a walking boot after Tuesday's practice and looks like he'll be off the ice for the next few days as the Panthers wait for him to recover from the injury.

Panthers' Upshall Seen Wearing Walking Boot

News: Scottie Upshall did not take part in Tuesday's practice and was seen wearing a walking boot after the session, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: It's not clear what type of setback Scottie Upshall is dealing with, but as he needs assistance just to walk, his availability for Florida's next game Wednesday is certainly in question.

Panthers' Upshall Will Play Monday

News: Scottie Upshall (lower body) will return to the lineup Monday against the Wild, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: After missing a couple games with the injury, Scottie Upshall will slide back into the lineup Monday, along with Sean Bergenheim (lower body) and Brandon Pirri (concussion). Upshall picked up three goals and four assists in 16 games before getting hurt.

Panthers' Upshall Skates Saturday Morning

News: Scottie Upshall (lower body) was on the ice for Saturday's morning skate, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: In addition to Scottie Upshall, fellow injured forwards Brandon Pirri and Sean Bergenheim took to the ice. Coach Gerard Gallant was reluctant to say whether any of those players would return to the lineup later in the evening against the Predators, but Upshall and Pirri in particular seemed to be ready to go. No decision on the status of either player will likely be known until the Panthers take part in their pregame warmup.

Panthers' Upshall Has Lower-Body Injury

News: Scottie Upshall will be held out of Thursday's game against the Sharks due to a lower-body injury, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: The Panthers are labeling Scottie Upshall as day-to-day, so it remains possible that he'll be able to return to lineup Saturday in Nashville. The winger has three goals and seven points over 16 games with the Panthers on the season.

Panthers To Scratch Upshall

News: Scottie Upshall will miss Thursday's game against the Sharks with what appears to be an undisclosed injury, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall was held out of the third period of Tuesday's game against the Kings, suggesting he might have suffered some kind of injury earlier in the contest. The Panthers haven't indicated what's ailing him, so he'll just be considered day-to-day for now. With Upshall unavailable to play, recent AHL call-up Rocco Grimaldi will suit up for his second straight game.

Panthers' Upshall Finds Scoresheet Three Times

News: Scottie Upshall potted a pair of goals and added an assist in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Flames.
Analysis: He also fired four shots on goal and picked up two PIM in 12:57 of ice time. Scottie Upshall nearly tripled his point total in this one, as the trio of points brought his ledger from two to five over 12 games.

Panthers' Upshall Scores Game Winner Thursday

News: Scottie Upshall ended his goal scoring slump Thursday in the third period against the Coyotes, scoring the game winner.
Analysis: Having only one assist coming into the contest against Arizona, Scottie Upshall needed to get something going. The goal was the eventual game winner and he also contributed four penalty minutes and two hits in just over 15 minutes of ice time. This was by far his best game of the season.

Florida's Upshall Contributes Assist In Loss

News: Scottie Upshall assisted on the Panthers' lone goal in Saturday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Scottie Upshall found Derek MacKenzie for a power-play tally late in the second period, but the game's outcome had already been decided by that point. The 31-year-old figures to swing between the Panthers' second and third line this season while seeing a decent amount of time with the man advantage.

Panthers' Upshall Playing Tuesday

News: Scottie Upshall (ankle) is playing Tuesday against the Islanders, Harvey Fialkov of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Although Scottie Upshall is probably not quite at 100 percent health, the Panthers felt comfortable enough using him after he was able to take part in pregame warmups without limitations. Look for him to receive close to his usual allotment of minutes.

Panthers' Upshall Questionable For Tuesday

News: Scottie Upshall is dealing with an ankle injury and will be a game-time decision Tuesday against the Islanders, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: With the Panthers out of the running for the playoffs this season, it seems more likely than not that the team will rest Scottie Upshall, if for no reason other than to preserve his long-term health. We'll find out during pregame warmups if he'll suit up Tuesday.
