Two Goals For Flames' Stajan

News: Matt Stajan scored twice Wednesday in a 6-3 win over the Ducks.
Analysis: Matt Stajan has strung together three nice games since missing five contests for the birth of his child, scoring three goals and four points. Still, he's got just seven goals and seven assists in 44 games on the season, so it's tough to assess his little three-game point streak as anything other than an anomaly at this point. Go ahead and keep an eye on him, though, and don't be afraid to pull the trigger if he continues his strong play.

Flames' Stajan Nets Goal In Return

News: After missing five games for the birth of his child, Matt Stajan ripped a shot past Jimmy Howard in a 5-2 win over Detroit.
Analysis: Matt Stajan only has five goals and 11 points this season, but he returned with a vengeance Friday. While he isn't the scorer the Flames thought he might be when they acquired him, he's turned into a nice grind-line center.

Flames' Stajan To Return Friday

News: Matt Stajan is expected to return to the lineup Friday night against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Matt Stajan is in line to suit up Friday night for the first time since Feb. 20. He will likely skate as the Flames' fourth-line center.

Flames' Stajan Expected To Return

News: Matt Stajan is expected to re-join the team Wednesday after the birth of his child.
Analysis: Matt Stajan left the team last week for the expected birth of his child, and it appears that he'll be back in time for Thursday's contest against the Bruins. Michael Ferland and Emile Poirier were both recalled from AHL Adirondack last week, so it's likely one of the two forwards will be sent back down when Stajan is activated.

Flames' Stajan On Leave

News: Matt Stajan is on leave from the Flames for the expectant birth of his child, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: With Matt Stajan on leave and Paul Byron having been placed on IR, the Flames have recalled fellow forwards Michael Ferland and Emile Poirier from AHL Adirondack.

Flames' Stajan Adds Assist Thursday

News: Matt Stajan notched an assist in Thursday's loss to the Kings.
Analysis: With nine points over 37 games, Matt Stajan is on track to submit his lowest scoring output of his career this season. He doesn't offer much impact in the hit or PIM categories either, further deflating his fantasy value.

Calgary's Stajan Dishes Assist In Victory

News: Matt Stajan registered an assist Saturday in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Sharks.
Analysis: With the emergence of Sean Monahan, Matt Stajan has been pushed out of the top-six center spot. However, a checking-line role may suit Stajan better, as he only has eight points in 27 games and isn't under as much pressure to score.

Flames' Stajan Pots Two In Defeat

News: Matt Stajan potted two goals and won 10 of 18 faceoffs in Friday's loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: Injuries have limited Matt Stajan to just 24 games this season, but he's otherwise given the Flames some steady play as their checking-line center. Still, it represents a far lesser role than he enjoyed last season with the Flames as a second- or third-line player, which has been reflected in a drop in ice time of nearly seven minutes. The two-goal night amounts to little more than a nice showing for Stajan, who should remain far off the fantasy radar in most formats.

Flames' Stajan A Likely Scratch Thursday

News: Matt Stajan is expected to serve as a healthy scratch Thursday versus the Sabres, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: The expected return of Joe Colborne (wrist) from injured reserve looks like it will cost Matt Stajan a lineup spot, at least for this night. Stajan himself recently returned from a long-term injury, producing one point in the two games since his activation.

Flames' Stajan Notches Assist In Return

News: Matt Stajan dished an assist Saturday in a 3-2 loss to San Jose, his first game back after missing more than a month.
Analysis: Matt Stajan had about a point every other game last season, and that is about the maximum output he's going to give. The young guns have taken a lot of the top line spots in Calgary, but Stajan will provide stability to one of the bottom lines.

Flames' Stajan To Play Saturday

News: Matt Stajan will play Saturday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Matt Stajan was cleared to play for Thursday's game, but received an extra couple days of rest instead. He will need to be activated before the game Sunday, and will likely center the fourth line in his return.

Flames' Stajan Won't Return Thursday

News: Matt Stajan (knee) will not play Thursday against the Avalanche, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan has been cleared for a return to action and was on the ice for morning skate, but the Flames decided to give him another day to get back up to speed on the conditioning front. Coach Bob Hartley could slot Stajan back into his lineup Saturday versus the Sharks.

Flames Clear Stajan To Play

News: Matt Stajan (knee) has been cleared by doctors to play Thursday against the Avalanche, NHL.com's Aaron Vickers reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan hasn't been formally activated from IR just yet, but the Flames seemingly created room for his return by sending Corban Knight back to AHL Adirondack. The bottom-six forward has been out since late October with the knee injury.

Flames' Stajan Skating At Practice

News: Matt Stajan skated with the practice group Monday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan is at the start of the four-to-six-week timetable initially set for his return, and it looks like six weeks will be more accurate. He should get back in the lineup in a few weeks, but needs to start practicing fully again first.

Flames' Stajan Skating Again

News: Matt Stajan (knee) is beginning to skate on his own again, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan is at least a couple weeks away from playing still, but it's good to see him getting back on the ice. Once he is cleared for contact, he should be close to a return.

Flames' Stajan (Knee) Placed On IR, Out 6 Weeks

News: Matt Stajan (knee) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 590 The FAN reports.
Analysis: Initial reports had Matt Stajan missing somewhere between 4-6 weeks, but the Flames are reportedly preparing to be without him until closer to the back end of that timetable. Markus Grandlund was recalled to provide depth at the center position, though Maikel Backlund figures to inherit Stajan's role along the second line.

Flames' Stajan (Knee) Could Miss 4-6 Weeks

News: Matt Stajan (knee) could miss 4-to-6 weeks, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The FAN reports.
Analysis: The team hasn't confirmed as much, but it sounds like Matt Stajan is in danger of missing at least a month after leaving Tuesday's game with the knee injury. Mikael Backlund figures to move up to the second line in the interim, with Lance Bouma likely seeing an increase in playing time as well.

Flames' Stajan Leaves Tuesday's Game

News: Matt Stajan left in the third period of Tuesday's 2-1 shootout loss to Montreal and did not return.
Analysis: It's not known how serious the injury is, so consider him day-to-day until he gets examined further.

Flames' Stajan Gets On Scoresheet

News: Matt Stajan tallied his first point of the season with an assist in a 4-1 win against Winnipeg on Sunday.
Analysis: Matt Stajan has had an up and down career with Calgary, never reaching the heights he did in Toronto. The 30-year-old's best fantasy days are behind him, and he is a bottom-six center for the Flames.

Flames' Stajan Scores In Victory

News: Matt Stajan scored in the Flames' 4-3 shootout win against the Kings on Wednesday.
Analysis: Matt Stajan has endured some tough personal times this season, but is playing some of his best hockey to end the season. He has nine points in his last seven games, including a four-point outburst.

Flames' Stajan Will Play Wednesday

News: Matt Stajan (personal) will play Wednesday against the Kings, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan hasn't suited up since April 1 due to a personal matter, but was in the midst of a four-game point streak before the hiatus. He has 13 goals and 18 assists in 60 games on the season.

Flames' Stajan To Miss Rest Of Road Trip

News: Matt Stajan (personal) has returned to Calgary and will miss the final three games of the team's road trip, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan previously missed time in March following the passing of his newborn child, and it now looks like he'll head back to home to attend further to his personal affairs. It's been a tough season on the ice and from a personal standpoint for Stajan, but he had been on a four-game points streak before leaving the team.

Flames' Stajan Tallies 13th Goal

News: Matt Stajan registered his 13th goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Matt Stajan's goal came on a breakaway, which he easily finished for his seventh point in six games. The 13 goals are his highest total since the 2009-10 season, and have mostly been a byproduct of an unsustainable 19.1 shooting percentage.

Stajan's Penalty-Shot Goal Helps Flames Cruise

News: Matt Stajan scored on a penalty shot and added three assists to the Flames' lopsided win over the Oilers on Saturday night. He ended the night plus-4.
Analysis: This doesn't necessarily portend a huge final push in the regular season. Many players have enjoyed big nights at Edmonton's expense this year.

Flames' Stajan Rejoins Team

News: Matt Stajan (personal) rejoined the Flames on Monday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Matt Stajan took a leave of absence from the team for the past week after the death of his newborn son. With the support of his teammates, Stajan will attempt to move on from the devastating personal loss. He figures to be in the lineup Tuesday vs. the Sabres.
