Oilers Activate Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon (back) has been activated from injured reserve and will play Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, Boyd Gordon made it through the Oilers' gameday skate without incident. He'll be plugged back in on the fourth line Thursday, centering Matt Hendricks and Steve Pinizzotto.

Oilers' Gordon Set To Return Thursday

News: Boyd Gordon (back) is set to return to the lineup Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon took part in rushes with the fourth line at Wednesday's practice and should be formally activated from IR on Thursday morning. He missed just over a week with the back issue. The Oilers will be glad to welcome their top face-off artist back to the lineup, but he won't be able to provide the offensive lift the Oilers desperately need right now.

Oilers Move Gordon To IR

News: Boyd Gordon (back) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: The Oilers weren't expecting Boyd Gordon to return to game action anytime soon, so the move to IR will afford the team some more roster flexibility in their attempt to cover for his absence. Expect the team to recall a forward from AHL Oklahoma City prior to Sunday's tilt with the Rangers.

Oilers' Gordon Not Close To Return

News: Coach Dallas Eakins said after Friday's morning skate that Boyd Gordon (back) isn't close to returning.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon is one of the Oilers' top faceoff specialists and penalty killers, but he otherwise brings little utility in the fantasy realm. The team should have a better idea on a possible return timetable for the center once he starts skating again.

Oilers' Gordon Out Tuesday With Back Issue

News: Boyd Gordon will sit out Tuesday's game against the Sharks with a back issue, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Though Boyd Gordon's injury hurts the Oilers' depth in their bottom-six, the club will be fortunate to welcome back Matt Hendricks (leg) into the lineup following a four-game absence. The extent of Gordon's injury remains unknown at this time, so he could potentially be a lineup option for Wednesday's game against the Ducks.

Shortie For Oilers' Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon scored a shorthanded goal and finished plus-1 in Tuesday's loss to Dallas.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon doesn't produce much offense, but he is good for about one shortie per year. With four goals in 22 games this season, Gordon's well ahead of his typical scoring pace, which says a lot about his offensive abilities.

Oilers' Gordon Nets Game-Winner

News: Boyd Gordon netted the game-winning goal Friday against the Sabres.
Analysis: The goal came late in the third period off a brilliant pass from Teddy Purcell. Boyd Gordon has now scored in two straight games and is up to four points in 14 games on the season. Don't read too much into this recent streak, as the fourth-liner won't keep it up and has never surpassed 29 points in a season.

Oilers' Gordon Nets First Goal

News: Boyd Gordon scored his first goal of the season in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon staked the Oilers to an early lead with a first-period power-play goal, but was otherwise quiet during his 27 shifts, aside from winning 13 of 26 faceoffs. Locked into a bottom-six role for the Oilers this season, Gordon will struggle to contribute points with much regularity.

Oilers' Gordon In Line To Serve As No. 3 Center

News: Boyd Gordon is expected to serve as the Oilers' No. 3 center to begin the season, ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Though filling the hole at the second-line center spot is the more pressing need for the Oilers, it appears that rookie Leon Draisaitl or Mark Arcobello will be given the opportunity to do so before Boyd Gordon does. Gordon is serviceable two-way depth center for the Oilers, but he doesn't offer enough offensive upside to keep up with the likes of David Perron and Nail Yakupov on the wings. Look for Gordon to finish with another season where he hovers around the 20-point mark.

Oilers Shut Down Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon (shoulder) has been shut down for the season.
Analysis: With just two games left in the Oilers' season, they'll shut the center down to try to get him healthy for the summer. Boyd Gordon will finish the 2013-14 campaign with eight goals and 13 assists in 74 games.

Scoring Tapering Off For Oilers' Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon enters the Olympic break with just two points over his last 12 contests.
Analysis: With a move to a top-six role not on the horizon, Boyd Gordon will probably struggle to provide consistent points for fantasy owners the rest of the way. Considering that an awful Edmonton defense routinely damages the plus/minus rating of their skaters, it's probably best for Gordon's owners to look elsewhere to replace his moderate scoring.

Oilers' Gordon Scores Sixth Goal Friday

News: Boyd Gordon scored his sixth goal of the season during the Oilers' 5-2 loss to the Ducks on Friday.
Analysis: The goal was Boyd Gordon's first in 16 games and his first point in his last four. Obviously, he is not known for his scoring touch, but with a minus-11 rating and an average of just 14:57 of ice time, he's not doing much of anything for fantasy owners. And with just 12 penalty minutes on the season, he's not even contributing that way.

Oilers' Gordon (Face) Returns To Game

News: Boyd Gordon (face) returned to action to start the second period of Saturday's game. He had taken a puck to the face on the first shift of the game.
Analysis: He returned, repaired and ready for action. Great news for the Oilers and his owners.

Oilers' Gordon Takes Puck To Face

News: Boyd Gordon took a puck to the face on the first shift of Saturday's game against St. Louis and went immediately to the Oilers' dressing room, reports CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: There's no word on the severity or whether he'll return. He was expected to shadow Alex Steen all night, so this could be a big loss for the Oilers if the injury is severe.

Oilers Activate Gordon From IR

News: Boyd Gordon (shoulder) was activated from IR on Friday.
Analysis: Coach Dallas Eakins said Boyd Gordon is fully healthy and will be available Friday vs. the Canucks, but there's no guarantee that he'll be inserted into the lineup right away. Despite not enjoying a regular top-six role, Gordon was still reasonably productive before his injury with 11 points in 27 games.

Oilers' Gordon Remains Sidelined

News: Boyd Gordon (shoulder) will not play Thursday against the Bruins.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon's shoulder is still sore, so he will miss his sixth straight game. Gordon could miss more action with the Oilers playing every other day until the Christmas break, but he was able to skate Thursday, so he should be able to resume playing in the near future.

Oilers' Gordon Nearing A Return

News: Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said Sunday that Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) is close to returning to the lineup.
Analysis: The Oilers deactivated Boyd Gordon on Friday, but with a backdated IR stint (to Nov. 30), he'll be eligible to return at any time. While Gordon took part in Saturday's morning skate, he appears questionable, at best, for Tuesday's game against Carolina.

Oilers Move Gordon To IR

News: Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Bob Stauffer of 630 CHED reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon had missed the previous three games with the injury and hadn't been practicing of late either, so it was clear he wasn't returning anytime soon. The Oilers recalled Anton Belov to take his place on the 23-man roster.

Oilers' Gordon Out For Sunday

News: Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) will not play Sunday against the Stars.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon sat out the third period of Friday night's loss to the Blue Jackets due to whatever this injury is that is hindering his play. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Gordon Could Replace Ryan Nugent-Hopkins

News: Boyd Gordon could move up to the second line if Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (shoulder) is unable to start the season with the team, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon is not known as a high scoring forward, but does bring energy to his game. He would most likely play on a line with Nail Yakupov and David Perron if RNH isn't ready for opening night.

Edmonton Signs Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon signed a three-year deal with Edmonton on Friday, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon will be a bottom six forward in Edmonton, someone who will be relied upon to do the little things that help you win games.

Gordon Adds Two Points In Coyotes Win

News: Boyd Gordon recorded a goal and an assist in the Coyotes' 3-1 win over the Oilers on Wednesday.
Analysis: The two points only brought the winger's season total to 13 in 40 games played though, so his offensive production would need to increase a lot more to make him a viable fantasy option in the future.

Coyotes' Gordon: Three Points In Three Games

News: Boyd Gordon scored during Phoenix's 3-2 shootout loss to the Sharks on Saturday, giving him three points in the team's last three games.
Analysis: The goal marked Boyd Gordon's 10th point (second goal) through 35 games.

Coyotes' Gordon Has Two-Point Night

News: Boyd Gordon had a two-point game in the Coyotes' overtime loss to Minnesota on Wednesday.
Analysis: Typically, Boyd Gordon's contributions at the offensive end are unreliable. He'll continue to hold a depth role in Phoenix, as he's delivered just nine points this season, while the goal he scored Wednesday night was his first of the season.

Coyotes' Gordon To Play Saturday

News: Boyd Gordon (upper body) will play Saturday against the Stars, Sarah McLellan of The Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon returned to practice Thursday after missing almost a week and a half with an upper body injury sustained during a collision with teammate Kyle Chipchura.
