Oilers' Gordon Done For The Season

News: Boyd Gordon (back) is likely out for the remainder of the season, Jonathan Willis of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon remains bothered by the back issue and will miss an eighth consecutive game Thursday against the Sharks. Since Gordon failed to resume practicing as of Wednesday, the club will probably opt to shut him down in an effort to get him healthy heading into the 2015-16 campaign, which will be a contract year.

Oilers' Gordon Still Unavailable

News: Boyd Gordon (back) will not play in Tuesday's game versus the Kings.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon appeared on the cusp of returning to the lineup in late March after he was cleared to travel on the Oilers' road trip, but it appears he's been slow to progress since that time. He'll sit out for the seventh straight contest Tuesday, and with only two games remaining on the team's schedule, it's beginning to look doubtful that he suits up again this year.

Oilers' Gordon Set To Sit Again Thursday

News: Boyd Gordon (back) will not play Thursday against the Kings, Jack Michaels of Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon resumed skating with the team Wednesday, but he may need to get in another full practice before the team green lights his return. The fourth-line center may be ready to play Saturday against the Flames.

Oilers' Gordon Remains Out Wednesday

News: Boyd Gordon (back) will not return to the Oilers' lineup Wednesday against the Ducks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon is traveling with the Oilers on their road trip and was able to skate with the team Wednesday morning, but he'll still need a little more practice time before reentering the lineup. Though he could be ready to play Thursday against the Kings, Gordon will be forced to sit out a fourth consecutive game.

Oilers' Gordon Will Join Team On Road Trip

News: Boyd Gordon (back) will travel with the Oilers for their upcoming road trip, Reid Wilkins of 630 CHED radio reports.
Analysis: It isn't clear if Boyd Gordon will be able to play in the first game of the Oilers' road trip on Monday against Colorado. However, the fact that he's travelling with the team is certainly encouraging. The Oilers should provide an update on his status prior to Monday's matchup with the Avalanche.

Oilers' Gordon Out Another Game

News: Boyd Gordon (back) will not play Friday against the Stars.
Analysis: Though the Oilers will miss Boyd Gordon's skills in the faceoff circle, the center's absence will cause considerably fewer ripples in the fantasy realm. Gordon has tallied only 13 points in 68 games this season while primarily skating on the Oilers' fourth line.

Oilers' Gordon Day-To-Day

News: Boyd Gordon (back) won't play Wednesday against the Avalanche, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: With Boyd Gordon still day-to-day, look for the Oilers to roll out a fourth line on Wednesday comprised of Luke Gazdic, Matt Hendricks and Rob Klinkhammer.

Oilers' Gordon Questionable For Wednesday's Game

News: Boyd Gordon (back) is questionable to play Wednesday against the Avalanche, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon didn't participate in Tuesday's practice after leaving Monday's loss to the Jets due to the back concern. The Oilers seem to be at least somewhat hopeful that a day off the ice might be exactly what Gordon needs to cure what ails him, so an official verdict on his status won't be rendered until Wednesday's morning skate. Matt Hendricks would likely move over to the fourth-line center spot if Gordon isn't able to play against the Avalanche.

Oilers' Gordon Leaves Monday With Back Injury

News: Boyd Gordon will not return to Monday's game against the Jets after suffering a back injury.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon should be considered day-to-day moving forward ahead of Wednesday's game against the Avalanche. It's still unclear how severe the injury is, but Edmonton will likely have an update in due time.

Gordon (Undisclosed) Takes The Ice Monday

News: Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) was on the ice for Monday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: There was some fear that Boyd Gordon would be unable to take the ice Monday for an undisclosed reason, although he ultimately played nonetheless. More importantly, the 31-year-old won eight of his 13 faceoffs during 19 shifts against the Jets.

Oilers' Gordon (Undisclosed) Warming Up

News: Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) is warming up for Monday's game, Oilers' play-by-play man Jack Michaels reports.
Analysis: The nature of Boyd Gordon's injury remains under wraps, but continue to consider him questionable to play until a final call is made by the team.

Oiler's Gordon Iffy To Play Monday

News: Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) may not be able to play Monday, according to the Oilers web site.
Analysis: The Oilers are expected to be without several players tonight and may in fact be shorthanded so they are likely to wait until the last minute before making a final determination on Boyd Gordon's status for Monday.

Gordon Scores Oilers' Lone Goal In Defeat

News: Boyd Gordon netted the Oilers' only goal in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to the Wild.
Analysis: He got the Oilers on the board late in the second period when his wraparound shot bounced off the skate of Wild forward Kyle Brodziak and into the net. With only 10 points in 43 games this season, Boyd Gordon offers limited ability as a scorer, but he makes up for it through his dominance in the faceoff circle. He ranks 12th in the league with 464 faceoff victories and holds a higher winning percentage (56.0%) than all but three of those players above him.

Oilers Activate Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon (back) has been activated from injured reserve and will play Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, Boyd Gordon made it through the Oilers' gameday skate without incident. He'll be plugged back in on the fourth line Thursday, centering Matt Hendricks and Steve Pinizzotto.

Oilers' Gordon Set To Return Thursday

News: Boyd Gordon (back) is set to return to the lineup Thursday against the Sharks, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon took part in rushes with the fourth line at Wednesday's practice and should be formally activated from IR on Thursday morning. He missed just over a week with the back issue. The Oilers will be glad to welcome their top face-off artist back to the lineup, but he won't be able to provide the offensive lift the Oilers desperately need right now.

Oilers Move Gordon To IR

News: Boyd Gordon (back) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: The Oilers weren't expecting Boyd Gordon to return to game action anytime soon, so the move to IR will afford the team some more roster flexibility in their attempt to cover for his absence. Expect the team to recall a forward from AHL Oklahoma City prior to Sunday's tilt with the Rangers.

Oilers' Gordon Not Close To Return

News: Coach Dallas Eakins said after Friday's morning skate that Boyd Gordon (back) isn't close to returning.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon is one of the Oilers' top faceoff specialists and penalty killers, but he otherwise brings little utility in the fantasy realm. The team should have a better idea on a possible return timetable for the center once he starts skating again.

Oilers' Gordon Out Tuesday With Back Issue

News: Boyd Gordon will sit out Tuesday's game against the Sharks with a back issue, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: Though Boyd Gordon's injury hurts the Oilers' depth in their bottom-six, the club will be fortunate to welcome back Matt Hendricks (leg) into the lineup following a four-game absence. The extent of Gordon's injury remains unknown at this time, so he could potentially be a lineup option for Wednesday's game against the Ducks.

Shortie For Oilers' Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon scored a shorthanded goal and finished plus-1 in Tuesday's loss to Dallas.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon doesn't produce much offense, but he is good for about one shortie per year. With four goals in 22 games this season, Gordon's well ahead of his typical scoring pace, which says a lot about his offensive abilities.

Oilers' Gordon Nets Game-Winner

News: Boyd Gordon netted the game-winning goal Friday against the Sabres.
Analysis: The goal came late in the third period off a brilliant pass from Teddy Purcell. Boyd Gordon has now scored in two straight games and is up to four points in 14 games on the season. Don't read too much into this recent streak, as the fourth-liner won't keep it up and has never surpassed 29 points in a season.

Oilers' Gordon Nets First Goal

News: Boyd Gordon scored his first goal of the season in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: Boyd Gordon staked the Oilers to an early lead with a first-period power-play goal, but was otherwise quiet during his 27 shifts, aside from winning 13 of 26 faceoffs. Locked into a bottom-six role for the Oilers this season, Gordon will struggle to contribute points with much regularity.

Oilers' Gordon In Line To Serve As No. 3 Center

News: Boyd Gordon is expected to serve as the Oilers' No. 3 center to begin the season, ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Though filling the hole at the second-line center spot is the more pressing need for the Oilers, it appears that rookie Leon Draisaitl or Mark Arcobello will be given the opportunity to do so before Boyd Gordon does. Gordon is serviceable two-way depth center for the Oilers, but he doesn't offer enough offensive upside to keep up with the likes of David Perron and Nail Yakupov on the wings. Look for Gordon to finish with another season where he hovers around the 20-point mark.

Oilers Shut Down Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon (shoulder) has been shut down for the season.
Analysis: With just two games left in the Oilers' season, they'll shut the center down to try to get him healthy for the summer. Boyd Gordon will finish the 2013-14 campaign with eight goals and 13 assists in 74 games.

Scoring Tapering Off For Oilers' Gordon

News: Boyd Gordon enters the Olympic break with just two points over his last 12 contests.
Analysis: With a move to a top-six role not on the horizon, Boyd Gordon will probably struggle to provide consistent points for fantasy owners the rest of the way. Considering that an awful Edmonton defense routinely damages the plus/minus rating of their skaters, it's probably best for Gordon's owners to look elsewhere to replace his moderate scoring.

Oilers' Gordon Scores Sixth Goal Friday

News: Boyd Gordon scored his sixth goal of the season during the Oilers' 5-2 loss to the Ducks on Friday.
Analysis: The goal was Boyd Gordon's first in 16 games and his first point in his last four. Obviously, he is not known for his scoring touch, but with a minus-11 rating and an average of just 14:57 of ice time, he's not doing much of anything for fantasy owners. And with just 12 penalty minutes on the season, he's not even contributing that way.
