News: Gerber signed with Vaxjo of the Swedish Elite League, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Gerber will join former Oilers Liam Reddox and Brad Moran in Sweden.
News: Gerber was removed from the ice on a stretcher during Wednesday's game at Oklahoma City (AHL), Ryan Aber reports.
Analysis: No word yet as to what caused Gerber's removal, but we'll await further information on what is surely a scary incident involving the veteran netminder.
News: Gerber has been re-assigned to the AHL, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Gerber played well in limited playing time, but with Nikolai Khabibulin due back this weekend, it's back to the minors he goes.
News: Gerber stopped 34 of 35 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 shootout win over Nashville.
Analysis: Don't look now, but Gerber is now 3-0-0 in his first three starts with Edmonton. He's still not much of a fantasy option, but considering the goaltending situation in Edmonton right now, he's going to continue to get playing time.
News: Gerber is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Predators, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: Gerber, who is back with the Oilers due to Nikolai Khabibulin's eye infection, will be making his first start for the team since Nov. 29. He allowed a total of three goals in his two November starts for Edmonton, both of which were wins.
News: Gerber has not been happy with his role this season for Edmonton, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Gerber signed a one-year contract with the Oilers during the summer, deciding to play one more season on the NHL. He has played well for Oklahoma City of the AHL and feels he would be an asset for the Oilers or another team in search of a goaltender, but as of now he is still third on the Oilers depth chart with little chance of seeing any significant playing time.
News: The Oilers have recalled Gerber from AHL Oklahoma City, Jeff Marek of CBS Sports reports.
Analysis: With Nikolai Khabibulin on IR due to an infection of the eye, Gerber will serve as Devan Dubnyk's backup in Edmonton.
News: Gerber will be sent back to Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Dan Tencer of 630 CHED AM reports.
Analysis: With Nikolai Khabibulin healthy enough to serve as the No. 2 netminder behind Devan Dubnyk, the Oilers decided to return Gerber to the AHL after a pair of strong starts for the big club.
News: Gerber won his second straight start with a 22-save effort Monday against Ottawa.
Analysis: Gerber's recently arrived in northern Alberta and has won his first two starts with the Oil. If you're in a pinch for goaltending, he's still a risky play considering his team, but he's playing his way into more starts with several goaltenders nicked up and playing inconsistently.
News: Gerber will start against the Senators on Monday, according to Bruce Garrioch of the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: The Oilers are desperate for solid goaltending, and Gerber did a fine job in his debut against the Avs on Saturday, stopping 35 of 37 shots for the win. With Nikolai Khabibulin on the shelf with a sore groin, Gerber will likely continue to get the majority of starts over the forseeable future, since fellow backup Devan Dubnyk has proven to be somewhat unreliable thus far. At the end of the day, however, it's probably wise to stay away from any and all Edmonton goalies for fantasy purposes, as they are all considered to be extremely high-risk.
News: Gerber stopped 35 of 37 shots to win in his Oilers debut on Thanksgiving against Colorado.
Analysis: Gerber was called up when Nikolai Khabibulin got hurt, but didn't get a chance to play until now. With Devan Dubnyk not exactly playing the part of franchise savior, Gerber may have earned himself some more starts. Of course, even if he plays well, he's still on the Oilers.
News: Gerber will get the tap on the pads Thursday when the Oilers take on the Avalanche, according to Oilers' Official Twitter Feed.
Analysis: It'll be his first start as an Oiler. The team is an underdog in this one as they are in most, but with only two goalies to choose from on a very mild Thursday slate, perhaps Gerber can help you.
News: Gerber has been recalled from AHL Oklahoma City, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: Gerber is being called up due to the injury of Nikolai Khabibulin. He has played in 13 games for Oklahoma City, posting a 9-4 record with a 2.56 GAA and .911 SV%. Look for him to back up Devan Dubnyk in net, getting the occasional start.
News: Gerber cleared waivers Friday, according to the Edmonton Journal.
Analysis: Gerber is purely depth in net for the Oilers. He will be assigned to Oklahoma City.
News: The Oilers placed Gerber on waivers Thursday, the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: Gerber is currently on a one-year, two-way contract that pays him $500,00 in the NHL or $200,000 in the AHL. Other teams have until noon ET Friday to claim him.
News: Former NHL goalie Martin Gerber sustained a spinal contusion over the weekend while playing in Russia's KHL and will likely be out for a few weeks.
Analysis: Gerber had been playing very well in the KHL before this injury with a 2.19 GAA and a 19-9-6 record, but he wasn't likely to return to North America any time soon. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.
News:The Sports Xchange reports G Martin Gerber, who had hoped his strong finish with the Maple Leafs last season would net him a new contract, will now play in Russia in the KHL. He was removed from contention when the Leafs signed Swedish club G Jonas Gustavsson. Ironically, Gerber signed with Atlant Mytishchiin, who lost their goalie -- Ray Emery -- when he signed with the Flyers this offseason.
Analysis: Gerber began the 2008-09 season with the Senators and was primed to be their starting goalie. However, he got off to a slow start and eventually lost out to Alex Auld and Brian Elliott. He finished the season with Toronto. Gerber went 10-14-1 with a 3.03 GAA and .902 save percentage in 26 games last season. Gerber could be back in the NHL eventually, but it's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.
News: Toronto G Martin Gerber made 37 saves against his former team and helped the Maple Leafs beat the Senators 5-2 on Saturday in the final game of the season for both clubs. With the Maple Leafs and Senators long out of playoff contention, this was no Battle of Ontario. But it was a big victory for Gerber, who started the season with Ottawa before being claimed off waivers by Toronto last month.
Analysis: Gerber took over the starting role full-time with the Maple Leafs when Vesa Toskala was lost for the season. He is not expected to have a starting job with the team when the 2009-2010 season starts. He will not likely be a player worth targeting on Draft Day 2009. The Maple Leafs TG is also a low-end option.
News: Maple Leafs G Martin Gerber played a spectacular game Tuesday, making 47 saves in 4-1 defeat of the Devils. Gerber had given up 12 goals in his previous two games.
Analysis: Gerber looked more like his opposite number, Martin Brodeur, than himself on Tuesday. Don't expect another outing like this the rest of this final week from the veteran, though. Continue to ignore him in most formats. The Maple Leafs TG is also a low-end option.
News: Toronto G Martin Gerber's second game since returning from a suspension was much like the first one as he got lit up by the Canadiens on Saturday this time. For the second straight game, Gerber allowed six goals, falling to the Canadiens 6-2.
Analysis: The loss drops Gerber's record on the season to 8-14-1. He has been rusty in his two starts since his return and has given up very crooked numbers. Gerber remains a No. 3 Fantasy goalie and the Maple Leafs TG is a low-end option.
News: Maple Leafs G Martin Gerber returned from his three-game suspension Friday against the Flyers, but it wasn't pretty in a 8-5 loss. The Flyers scored three times in a span of 4:38 to take a 3-0 lead in the first. Randy Jones got the first one on a backhander after the rebound from Daniel Briere's shot kicked right to him inside the left circle. Briere helped set up the next goal by speeding up ice and sending a perfect crossing pass to the streaking Arron Asham, who quickly pushed the puck to Claude Giroux. The rookie forward deked Gerber with a nifty fake and scored his eighth goal. Simon Gagne scored his 32nd goal on a power play, firing a slap shot from the slot through a screen. That was it for Gerber. He was replaced by Curtis Joseph after allowing three goals on nine shots. Joseph wasn't much better. He gave up two goals on five shots and returned to the bench for the start of the second period. Gerber finished the game and made 24 saves while allowing six goals.
Analysis: We have to give Gerber the benefit of the doubt Friday since he returned after taking a week off. He was certainly rusty, but since Joseph isn't a trustworthy backup, Gerber isn't in jeopardy of losing his starting job. Gerber remains a No. 3 Fantasy goalie and the Maple Leafs TG is a low-end option.
News: Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Martin Gerber received an automatic three-game suspension from the NHL on Wednesday for abusing referee Mike Leggo. Gerber was tossed with 56 seconds remaining in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout win over the Washington Capitals after he pushed Leggo and shot a puck in his direction. The actions violated rule 41.4, which calls for an automatic suspension. Curtis Joseph is expected to start in Gerber's absence and Justin Pogge will likely be recalled from the minors to take Gerber's roster spot.
Analysis: Gerber was upset after Brooks Laich's goal made it 2-2. The Capitals forward stuffed the puck under Gerber, prompting the Toronto goalie to protest. Gerber will miss Friday's game at Buffalo, March 28 against Boston and April 1 against Philadelphia. He's eligible to return April 3 when the Leafs visit the Flyers. We figured Gerber was going to be suspended, so this is no shocker. He is 5-3-0 with a 2.89 GAA since becoming the Maple Leafs' starting goalie. The suspension won't cost Gerber his starting job in Toronto, so he can still be considered a No. 3 Fantasy goalie when active.
News:Curtis Joseph stopped eight shots in overtime and Washington's three shootout chances after entering the game late in the third period, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 victory over the Capitals on Tuesday. Joseph replaced Martin Gerber with 56 seconds left in the third period after the Toronto goalie was ejected for pushing referee Mike Leggo and shooting a puck in his direction. Gerber was upset after Brooks Laich stuffed the puck under him to tie it at 2. Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 51st goal but was stopped by Joseph on Washington's final shootout attempt. Joseph finished with nine saves, while Gerber had 34 while blowing a pair of one-goal leads.
Analysis: It seems inevitable that Gerber is going to face a suspension for his actions Tuesday, unless the NHL sees his actions as a misunderstanding. But highly unlikely. The suspension won't cost Gerber his starting job in Toronto, so he can still be considered a No. 3 Fantasy goalie when active. The Maple Leafs TG remains a low-end option.
News: Toronto G Martin Gerber allowed two goals and made 26 saves against the Canadiens on Saturday. The win improves his record on the season to 8-12-1.
Analysis: Gerber continues to trade wins and losses as he has been getting the bulk of the starts with the Maple Leafs. He hasn't done much to be too impressive in net, but has worked his way to being a No. 3 Fantasy goalie and a stopgap option. The Maple Leafs TG remains a low-end option.
News: Toronto G Martin Gerber faced 42 shots on Thursday against the Panthers, allowing three of them to get past him in a 3-1 loss to the Panthers. He made 29 saves in the game as his record fell to 7-12-1 on the season.
Analysis: Gerber is currently trading starts with Curtis Joseph but is expected to eventually get the majority of the starts before the season ends as Vesa Toskala is on the IR. Gerber remains a No. 3 Fantasy option only while the Maple Leafs TG is a low-end option.
News: Toronto G Martin Gerber was not exactly solid in net against the Flames on Saturday, but did enough to earn an 8-6 win. He gave up all six goals scored against Toronto and made 29 saves.
Analysis: This was a poor showing from Gerber, but Fantasy owners will take a win however they can get it. Gerber will be leaned on to carry the goalie load down the stretch with Vesa Toskala on the IR. Still, Gerber is only a No. 3 Fantasy goalie while the Maple Leafs TG is a low-end option.
News: Maple Leafs G Martin Gerber made 26 saves during a 4-1 loss to the Lightning Thursday. Gerber stopped the first five shots he faced in the first period for a 1-0 lead, but Matt Pettinger broke through at 5:25 of the second period and the Lightning finished the game with four unanswered goals for the win. Gerber is 2-2-0 since taking over in net for the injured Vesa Toskala (hip).
Analysis: Gerber had allowed all of five goals in his first three outings with the Maple Leafs. He has been a good find thus far for the Leafs and should see a majority of starts down the stretch with Toskala on IR. However, Gerber remains more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Maple Leafs TG also has low-end Fantasy appeal.
News: Maple Leafs G Martin Gerber made 28 saves during a 3-2 overtime win against the Islanders Tuesday. Gerber blew a 1-0 lead in the first as Kyle Okposo and Blake Comeau scored in the final 2:30 minutes. Gerber then didn't allow another goal the rest of the game, making 23 saves during a scoreless second, third and overtime periods.
Analysis: Gerber has won two of three starts since joining Toronto and hasn't allowed more than three goals in any outing. He has been a good find thus far for the Leafs and should see a majority of starts down the stretch with Vesa Toskala (hip) on IR. Gerber remains more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie. The Maple Leafs TG also has low-end Fantasy appeal.
News: Maple Leafs G Martin Gerber made 14 saves during a 4-1 loss to the Oilers Saturday. Gerber was making his first home start for the Leafs since being plucked off waivers and didn't look nearly as sharp as he did during a winning debut in Washington. He held Edmonton scoreless in the first period and took a 1-0 lead in the second before Edmonton finished the game with four goals, including an empty netter from Kyle Brodziak. "The puck is going to go through you sometimes," Gerber said. "That's just the way it is when you're a goaltender."
Analysis: After putting Vesa Toskala on season-ending IR, the Maple Leafs have little choice but to trust Gerber down the stretch. Gerber is definitely worth a flier in Fantasy since he should see most of Toronto's starts, but just keep expectations in check. The Maple Leafs TG is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: New Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Martin Gerber emerged from the minor league scrap heap to make 37 saves Thursday night in a 2-1 victory over the Washington Capitals, who played without NHL goal leader Alex Ovechkin. Lee Stempniak and Pavel Kubina scored -- both in the third period -- for the Maple Leafs, who extended their season-high points streak to eight games and saw an immediate dividend from the trade-deadline decision to claim Gerber off waivers from Ottawa on Wednesday. Gerber had a shutout until the final minute. With the Capitals goaltender pulled, Alexander Semin scored for Washington with 39 seconds to play.
Analysis: Picked up on the same day Vesa Toskala announced he would need season-ending hip surgery, Gerber had been shipped to the AHL team in Binghamton by the Senators because of a 4-9-1 record and hadn't appeared in an NHL game since Jan. 8, but he got the start on his first full day with his new team. Toskala, for sure, will be tough to replace. He had been 7-0-4 since the All-Star break, but Gerber was impeccable in his first win since beating Edmonton on Dec. 30. His highlight save: While lying on the ice in front of the crease, he somehow got his stick on David Steckel's point-blank shot when the game was scoreless early in the third period. Gerber is off to a fine start with Toronto and the Maple Leafs are clicking right now, but it likely won't last. Gerber is definitely worth a flier in Fantasy since he should see most of Toronto's starts down the stretch, but just keep expectations in check. The Maple Leafs TG is at best a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: The Maple Leafs have picked up G Martin Gerber off re-entry waivers from the Ottawa Senators.
Analysis: Gerber had been toiling in the AHL since his demotion in early January, but now he'll get a chance to start in Toronto alongside Curtis Joseph with Vesa Toskala out for the season. Gerber might be worth adding in deeper leagues as a low-end No. 2 or high-end No. 3 option, but there's no guarantee how many starts he will get the rest of the way.
News: The Toronto Sun reports the Senators are taking another stab at trying to unload veteran goalie Martin Gerber. He was placed on re-entry waivers for a second time in the last two weeks Tuesday in hopes that the Hurricanes will pick Gerber up at half of the $800,000 left on his contract.
Analysis: Gerber has been toiling in the AHL since his demotion in early January. Ottawa is happy with the goalie tandem of Alex Auld and Brian Elliott at this time and just want to get Gerber's contract off the books. Some contending team could take a flier on him for the stretch run, but it won't be as a starter. Gerber could be a backup somewhere, but can be left alone in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber was assigned to Binghamton of the AHL Saturday after no one claimed him on re-entry waivers.
Analysis: Gerber has been average since his demotion to the minors, but he has played well enough to perhaps warrant a flier from another team. However, no one is looking at the 34-year-old goalie at this time and that doesn't bode well for Gerber, who has no Fantasy value until further notice.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber has cleared waivers and has been assigned to Binghamton of the AHL.
Analysis: Gerber is 4-9-1 with an .899 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average in 14 games this season, the final one of his $11.1 million, three-year deal. He became the odd man out in the Senators' crease with the emergence of rookie Brian Elliott and was sent to Binghamton on Jan. 15 on a conditioning stint. Alex Auld is the backup in Ottawa. Gerber is 2-1 with a 2.37 GAA in three AHL games. He now has very minimal Fantasy appeal as he might not be up in the NHL again this season.
News: Veteran goaltender Martin Gerber was placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. The 34-year-old from Switzerland has until noon Friday to clear waivers, allowing the Senators to send him to Binghamton of the American Hockey League.
Some team could take a flier on Gerber, but he will likely be in a backup role. He still has minimal Fantasy appeal.
News: Senators GM Bryan Murray announced Thursday that goaltender Martin Gerber was sent to Binghamton (AHL) on a two-week conditioning assignment.
Analysis: The Senators recently recalled Brian Elliott from Binghamton and he has been outstanding in net. The Senators didn't plan to carry three goalies and sending Gerber on a conditioning assignment gives them time to try and work out a trade. Gerber could land on his feet with another NHL club, but it will likely be in a backup role. He has little Fantasy value at this time.
News:The Sports Xchange reports so much for rallying around the rookie netminder. The Senators recalled Brian Elliott from Binghamton of the American Hockey League and gave him just his second NHL start in Saturday's home game against the New York Rangers. Elliott played fine by making 25 saves, but he didn't get any support in a 2-0 loss. The Senators are considering making the promotion of the 23-year-old Elliott -- the AHL's goalie of the month in December and one of the organization's top prospects -- a full-time thing. That would mean veteran goalie Martin Gerber has likely played his last game in Ottawa. If such is the case, it's believed the Senators will put Gerber on waivers. If he goes unclaimed, he'll likely be sent to Binghamton, where he will collect the remainder of his $3.7 million salary.
Analysis: The Senators are dead last in the Northeast Division right now and just haven't had a lot of success lately. Gerber nor Alex Auld are getting the job done in net, so the Senators might give the Elliott a long look in net since he is considered the future in net. Oh how far Gerber has fallen. He came into the season as the Senators' top goalie, but after a few bad starts coupled with a lower-body injury and now he appears on his way out of Ottawa. Gerber has little Fantasy value at this time.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber stopped 16 shots during a 6-4 loss to the Bruins Thursday. Gerber never led in the game, but carried a 3-all tie into the third before Boston scored three times, including an empty-net goal with 41 seconds left. Gerber has lost two straight and four of six.
Analysis: Gerber hasn't had a lot of luck lately and hasn't been able to capitalize despite Alex Auld also struggling in net for Ottawa. Gerber remains a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is at best a No. 2 option.
News: Ottawa G Martin Gerber allowed three goals and made 27 saves in a 3-1 loss to Toronto on Saturday. Gerber has started the last three games for the Senators and has a 1-2 record over that three-game span, allowing eight goals.
Analysis: Even though Gerber is getting the starts in Ottawa right now, don't let it fool you. Alex Auld is still the top guy in Ottawa and Gerber didn't exactly step up to the plate in these three opportunities. Continue thinking of him as a No. 3 of flier Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG is a No. 2 option.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber stopped 20 shots during a 3-2 win Tuesday against the Oilers. He never trailed in the game, but blew two one-goal leads before Brian Lee scored the winner 11:32 into the third period. Gerber has won three of his last five starts.
Analysis: Gerber has started the last two games for the Senators, but he is still trailing Alex Auld for the starting job in Ottawa. Gerber could eventually re-emerge as the team's top netminder, but remains more of a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is a No. 2 Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber made 29 saves Sunday but took his seventh loss as Ottawa fell 3-0 to the Canucks.
Analysis: After playing only once in November, Gerber has seen the ice five times in December and is actually doing pretty well with a 2.19 GAA. Unfortunately, the Senators offense has vanished this year and Gerber is 2-3 this month. He remains only worth using in deeper leagues that reward average points.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber came away with a 5-4 overtime win over the Stars on Saturday. Gerber had 35 saves in the game to improve to an underwhelming 3-6-1 on the year. It is Gerber's second win in his past three games, his best stretch of the year.
Analysis: Gerber didn't exactly stone the Stars on Saturday, but got enough support from his team's offense to get the overtime win. Gerber is at best a No. 2 option for the time being and so is the Senators TG.
News: Ottawa G Martin Gerber stopped 21 shots and allowed 3 goals but was bested by Ondrej Pavelec on Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the Thrashers. Atlanta's Todd White scored a goal in the 3rd on the empty net to give the game its final margin. It was Gerber's third start in four games.
Analysis: Gerber had allowed one goal in his previous two outings, including a 24-save performance for his 10th career shutout in Ottawa's 2-0 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday. Still, the loss drops his record to 2-6-1 on the year and he remains a No. 2 Fantasy goalie as he splits starts with Alex Auld. The Sens TG remains a No. 2 option, too, but has the potential to be a No. 1 choice soon.
News: The Ottawa Sun reports that Senators G Martin Gerber will start for a second straight game Tuesday night when the Thrashers visit Canada's capital city. "Alex (Auld) played great for a long time there, and we feel very fortunate that we have two guys like that," said Coach Craig Hartsburg. "Gerbs, early in the season, he had some struggles, but he stayed with it, mentally. Alex, the last couple games, has not been as sharp, so this is good opportunity for Martin."
Analysis: It looked like Auld had a solid grip on the No. 1 job in Ottawa, but Hartsburg's comments lead us to believe that if Gerber plays well again on Tuesday, he could well be right back in the mix to at least split starts for the time being. Owners of both goalies should keep a very close eye on this situation, as the Sens are playing better lately and both can be decent No. 2 Fantasy options when they're getting ice time. The Sens TG remains a No. 2 option, too, but has the potential to be a No. 1 choice soon.
News:Martin Gerber made 24 saves for his first shutout of the season, picking up a 2-0 win over the Lightning on Saturday. The win improves Gerber's record to 2-5-1 on the season. The win snaps a four-game losing streak as well.
Analysis: Alex Auld is the No. 1 goalie in Ottawa and that doesn't look like it is going to change any time soon. Bench Gerber and only keep him around as a handcuff for Auld despite the shutout on Saturday.
News: G Martin Gerber had a solid performance, but took a 2-0 loss on Wednesday against the Blackhawks. Huet, Gerber's goalie counterpart, was stellar between the pipes, getting his first shutout since coming to Chicago. Gerber's record falls to 1-5-1 and has lost four in a row.
Analysis: Alex Auld is the No. 1 goalie in Ottawa and that doesn't look like it is going to change any time soon. Bench Gerber and only keep him around as a handcuff for Auld.
News: The Ottawa Sun reports that Senators G Martin Gerber will get his first start in more than a month Wednesday when Ottawa visits Chicago. Gerber will be making just his seventh start of the season and first since a 2-1 loss in Carolina Nov. 7.
Analysis: Gerber's Fantasy value has plummeted this season and he isn't likely to unseat Alex Auld as the No. 1 in Ottawa unless Auld either gets hurt or finds himself in a major slump. Continue to bench Gerber in deeper formats and ignore him in most leagues until there is a concrete change in his status.
News: The Ottawa Sun reports that G Martin Gerber is simply biding his time as the No. 2 goalie in Canada's capital. "You have to wait for your call. That's pretty much all I can do," said Gerber. "You have to use your ice time well in practice and try to stay on top of everything. You have to push yourself as hard as you can and try to be ready and prepared and get everything out of it that you can."
Analysis: Gerber hasn't played in almost a month, and unless Alex Auld suddenly starts to struggle, Gerber isn't going to have much Fantasy value outside of deeper leagues as a No. 4 option.
News:Martin Gerber -- who set the Hurricanes' single-season records with 38 victories and a .707 winning percentage in 2005-06, his only season with them -- stopped 28 shots during a 2-1 loss Friday against Carolina in his return to the Senators' lineup after missing six games with a leg injury. Joe Corvo took advantage of an Ottawa turnover in its own zone to score the go-ahead goal. Sergei Samsonov kept the puck in the zone, Tim Gleason's slap shot was stopped by Gerber and the puck made its way to Corvo, who snapped the puck over the goalie's shoulder. That came about six minutes after Dennis Seidenberg started Carolina's comeback. He beat Gerber with a slap shot from just inside the blue line for the first power-play goal allowed by the Senators in four games. "It wasn't our best game, no question," Mike Fisher said. "We tried to stick with it. We didn't create a ton of offensive chances. We scrambled a bit in our own end. ... We just didn't handle the pucks that well tonight. (Gerber) played well and kept us in it. To lose it like that in the third is disappointing."
Analysis: Gerber has been healthy for a few games, but has remained on the bench because Alex Auld has been strong in net. Gerber had his first really good performance Friday, but Auld might remain the top dog until he cools off. We have a goalie controversy brewing in Ottawa, so view Gerber more as a No. 3 Fantasy goalie until this situation sorts itself out. The Senators TG always has high-end value.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber (leg) dressed as the team's backup goalie Thursday against the Flyers, but didn't start for the seventh straight game as coach Craig Hartsburg stuck with the hot hand in Alex Auld.
Analysis: It appears as though Gerber is over his leg injury, but the Senators have been winning without him and Hartsburg doesn't want to mess with team momentum. Gerber is likely to get back in net, but the longer Auld plays well, the worse off it is for Gerber. Keep him reserved in Fantasy until further notice.
News: Ottawa G Martin Gerber (leg) was held out of goal again on Tuesday night against Washington and has now missed six straight games. The Senators are not saying if Gerber is still hurt or they are just starting Alex Auld because they think him the better option. Auld beat the Caps so that is bad news for Gerber.
Analysis: Auld has won a few starts in Gerber's absence and the Senators might want to ride the hot hand until Gerber is at 100 percent. It doesn't help Gerber that Auld is playing well and he could see reduced playing time once he is healthy. Gerber is more of a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie when active.
News: Ottawa G Martin Gerber (leg) missed a fifth straight game on Saturday against the Lightning as the Senators chose to start Alex Auld again over the injured netminder. Gerber remains questionable for Tuesday against the Capitals.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber (leg) was not back in net Thursday against the Panthers and missed a fourth straight game. Alex Auld started in his place and made 25 saves during a 2-1 win. Gerber remains day to day and questionable for Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber (leg) was not back in net Monday against the Sabres and missed a second straight game. Alex Auld started in his place and made 25 saves during a 5-2 win. Gerber remains day to day and questionable for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: The leg injury could be a blessing in disguise for Ottawa since Gerber has gotten off to a poor start. He is 1-3-1 with a 3.39 GAA and .891 save percentage. Auld has been a better option in net for Ottawa. When healthy, Gerber is more of a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Senators G Martin Gerber suffered a pulled leg muscle in practice Friday. Brian Elliott was recalled from Binghamton and served as backup to Alex Auld during Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The leg injury could be a blessing in disguise for Ottawa since Gerber has gotten off to a poor start. He is 1-3-1 with a 3.39 GAA and .891 save percentage. Auld has been a better option in net for Ottawa. Consider Gerber an injury-risk start for Week 4 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2). When healthy, Gerber is more of a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie.
News: The Ottawa Citizen reports that Senators G Alex Auld could get back-to-back starts this weekend as coach Craig Hartsburg goes with the hot hand in Canada's capital. If Auld plays well against the Ducks on Friday, he could start again over No. 1 Martin Gerber on Saturday at Toronto.
Analysis: Gerber was a sleeper pick coming into this season as people looked for him to improve on a disappointing 2007-08 campaign, but things are not looking good for the former Carolina Hurricane. Auld has performed well as a backup over the last two seasons in Boston and Florida and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if he supplanted Gerber at some point this season. Keep a very close eye on this situation over the weekend, as we might have a controversy on our hands by Saturday night.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber allowed two goals in the first six minutes Wednesday against the Panthers and it was enough to doom him in a 3-1 loss. Gerber stopped 18 shots and the Senators are 1-3 on a five-game homestand that ends Friday night against Anaheim. Gerber allowed three even-strength goals and took the loss for the third time in four starts.
Analysis: Gerber has still not allowed fewer than three goals in a start this season and is not giving the coaching staff many reasons to keep him in net over Alex Auld. He remains the No. 1 goalie for now, but how much longer will depend on his performance. Gerber remains at best a No. 2 Fantasy goalie at this time. The Senators TG has high-end Fantasy potential.
News: Ottawa G Martin Gerber lost on Saturday against the Bruins, 4-2. Gerber allowed all four goals to score and stopped 23 shots in the game.
Analysis: Gerber has just one win on the season and has yet to allow less than three goals in any start. He continues to look over his shoulder with Alex Auld just dying to take his job. Gerber will be given many chances to remain the Senators' No. 1 goalie, but for now, he remains a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG has high-end Fantasy potential.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber stopped 34 shots during a 6-3 win Friday against the Coyotes. Gerber took a shutout bid into the third period when Shane Doan scored his third goal in four games at 2:02 to draw Phoenix to 4-1. The Coyotes came as close as 5-3 in the third period before Jason Spezza scored his third goal of the season, his second of the game, on a power play with 1:43 left to ice the win for Gerber. "There were two different games, but you know what, we hadn't played in a week so I'm happy the way things went when we were playing well," Senators coach Craig Hartsburg said.
Analysis: Gerber finally notched his first win of the season and perhaps some of the pressure is off as he continues to look over his shoulder with Alex Auld just dying to take his job. Gerber will be given many chances to remain the Senators' No. 1 goalie, but for now, he remains a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG has high-end Fantasy potential.
News: Ottawa G Martin Gerber stopped 38 shots on Saturday against the Red Wings, however, the three he allowed to get passed him were enough for the Detroit victory.
Analysis: Gerber is still trying to fend off Alex Auld as the team's No. 1 goalie. It's also difficult to imagine Gerber holding onto the No. 1 job long into the season, especially the way things started on a two-game road trip to Europe. Gerber remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie at this time.
News:The Sports Xchange reports it's too early for another goaltending controversy to be taking any serious roots in Ottawa. But seeds for one were certainly planted in Sweden. A day after Martin Gerber cost the team a point by allowing three bad goals in a 4-3 overtime loss, Alex Auld stopped 30 shots in his debut as a Senator for the team's first win Sunday against the Penguins. Auld was particularly sharp in the second period, kicking aside 15 Pittsburgh Penguin chances. He lost his shutout bid with two seconds left in the game.
Analysis: Auld, who was signed in the off season to replace Ray Emery and serve as Gerber's backup, is a 27-year-old veteran who has had success as the last line of defense on a solid team. Gerber, who is in the last year of a three-year free agent contract, has never found in Canada the form he showed as a Carolina Hurricane. It's likely Gerber has a short leash but doubtful coach Craig Hartsburg will deprive him of starting the Senators' next game -- Saturday's home opener against the defending champion Detroit Red Wings. It's also difficult to imagine Gerber holding onto the No. 1 job long into the season, especially the way things started on a two-game road trip to Europe. Gerber remains more of a No. 2 Fantasy goalie at this time.
News:Tyler Kennedy scored his second goal with 25 seconds left in overtime to lift the Pittsburgh Penguins past the Ottawa Senators, 4-3 in the first NHL regular-season opener in Sweden on Saturday. Marc-Andre Fleury made 32 saves for the Penguins. Gerber stopped 26 shots for the Senators.
Analysis: The teams will meet again on Sunday. Gerber was one of the hottest goalies to open the 2007-08 season as he won 19 of 28 starts through December. Right now, it does not look like he'll get off to such a start. A save percentage of .867 isn't going to cut it for Fantasy owners, but one game is too early to tell what kind of season he will have. Ottawa is expected to be a contender in 2008-09. Gerber passes the bill as a No. 1 Fantasy goalie. For now.
News:Ray Emery was placed on waivers Friday by the Ottawa Senators, who intend to buy out the goalie's contract if he isn't claimed by another team within two days. Speaking before the NHL draft in Ottawa, Senators general manager Bryan Murray said he had grown tired of the distractions caused by Emery last season, and wanted to "clean the slate" after hiring new coach Craig Hartsburg last week to replace him behind the bench. After helping the Senators win the Eastern Conference title in 2007, Emery struggled this season and eventually lost the starting job to Martin Gerber in January. He was fined by the team shortly after for arriving late for practice, something he had done several times before.
Analysis: Gerber was one of the hottest goalies to open the 2007-08 season as he won 19 of 28 starts through December. He cooled the rest of the way only winning 11 games while splitting time with Emery. It also didn't help that Ottawa had a huge second half collapse. The good news is that Murray is a big fan of Gerber and Ottawa is expected to be a contender in 2008-09. Gerber passes the bill as a No. 1 Fantasy goalie, unless the team makes a move to bring in some competition.
News:Martin Gerber made his 15th straight start for the Senators Tuesday against the Canadiens, stopping 24 shots in a 3-0 loss. He is now winless in his last three starts and has allowed three or more goals for five straight starts.
Analysis: Gerber started strong in early March, but has been pretty awful the last few weeks. However, Bryan Murray is not a fan of Ray Emery, so Gerber is likely to remain in net. Treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Martin Gerber stopped 27 shots for the Senators, who have won just once in their last five games after being shut down by the Boston Bruins 4-0 on Saturday afternoon. Gerber is without a win in four of the last five starts. He has also allowed three or more goals in five consecutive outings.
Analysis: Gerber was going pretty good to start March, but has been somewhat iffy recently. Not a good time to start struggling in net. Treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Jason Pominville and Derek Roy scored in the shootout past Martin Gerber, and the Buffalo Sabres earned a 4-3 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night. Gerber finished with 37 saves and is now winless in three of four starts. He has also allowed three or more goals in four straight outings.
Analysis: Gerber was going pretty good to start March, but is starting to slip. However, he is still a favorite of new head coach Bryan Murray, so it is likely Geber stays in net. Treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Martin Gerber stopped 29 shots in his 12th consecutive start and the Ottawa Senators overcame a three-goal deficit by scoring five unanswered goals in the final 7:40 to beat the Buffalo Sabres 6-3 on Tuesday night. Gerber was pulled in Monday's loss after allowing three goals on 14 first-period shots.
Analysis: Gerber is now one win shy of 100 for his NHL career. He also needs one more win to get to the 30-win mark for the season. Treat Gerber as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber made his 11th straight start Monday against the Canadiens, but only lasted one period before being replaced by Ray Emery to begin the second. Gerber allowed three goals on 14 shots. Emery took the loss as he allowed four goals on 18 shots. The Senators lost 7-5.
Analysis: Gerber is winless in three of his last four starts, and he has allowed three or more goals in three of those outings. He was going pretty good to start the month, but is starting to slip. However, he is still a favorite of new head coach Bryan Murray, so it is likely Geber stays in net. Treat him as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Martin Gerber stopped 29 shots and the Ottawa Senators lost 5-4 to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Ottawa lost the last four times to Toronto.
Analysis: With his 10th consecutive start, Gerber tied his career high -- set when he playing with the Carolina Hurricanes. Gerber has wins in four of the last six games. He can be used as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG is still a high-end Fantasy option.

The Senators remained three points behind Montreal, the leader in the Northeast Division and the East. The Canadiens won 4-2 in Boston on Thursday and have played one more game than Ottawa.
Analysis: Gerber made his ninth straight start for Ottawa, which has eight games left -- home and away against each of its four division opponents. Gerber has won four of the last five games. He can be used as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG is still a high-end Fantasy option.

"We were undisciplined and unfocused," Gerber said. "We've got to blame ourselves." The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for Gerber, who allowed less than two goals in his previous four starts.
Analysis: The Senators continues to juggle the goalie situation, but it seems as though Gerber is a favorite of new head coach Bryan Murray. Gerber has looked like the goalie that won 13 of his first 18 starts this season and can once again be used as a No. 2 Fantasy goalie. The Senators TG is still a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots for his second shutout to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night. Gerber recorded his ninth career shutout, his first since he turned aside 35 shots in a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers on Oct. 6 in Ottawa's third game of the season. Ottawa has won five of six against the Canadiens this season, including a 6-1 home victory on Feb. 9 in which Spezza recorded his first career hat trick.
Analysis: Gerber shared a shutout with Ray Emery in a 6-0 win at Carolina on Dec. 12. Gerber made 31 saves after taking over for Emery, who stopped the only shot he faced before leaving the game 5:24 into the first because of a hip injury. Gerber, who won three straight games, is good enough as a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Goalie Martin Gerber made his sixth straight start for the Senators and looks to have solidified his lock on the No. 1 position as Ray Emery sits after the Ottawa Senators beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 Tuesday night. Gerber, who made 28 saves, lost his shutout bid when Glen Murray scored with less than three minutes to play in the third period.
Analysis: Gerber is good enough as a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is a high-end Fantasy option.

Patrick O'Sullivan scored an empty-net goal with 4.3 seconds remaining. Ottawa has lost six of the last seven games.
Analysis: Gerber is good enough as a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is a high-end Fantasy option.

News: Senators G Martin Gerber made 28 saves during a 3-1 loss to the Ducks Monday. He has just one win in his last six outings and has allowed three or more goals in five of those appearances.
Analysis: Do you remember the days early in the season when Gerber was a must-start Fantasy option? Yeah, those days are gone. It appears as though new head coach Bryan Murray might stick with Ray Emery in net down the stretch. Gerber is nothing more than a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Senators TG is a high-end Fantasy option.
News:Martin Gerber made 25 saves helping the Ottawa Senators snap a three-game skid with a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. The Senators won for just the third time in 10 games.

Analysis: Emery had posted consecutive wins before allowing four goals in the third period of Ottawa's 5-1 home loss to Buffalo on Tuesday. Gerber gave up seven goals on 47 shots in his previous two starts -- both losses. Gerber is good for a low-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie at this time. The Senators TG is usually a high-end Fantasy option, but Ottawa has lost nine of the last 12 games.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber stopped 22 shots during a 4-3 loss to the Canadiens Tuesday. Gerber had stopped 92 of 98 shots in Ottawa's three wins versus Montreal coming into Tuesday. He has now lost his last two starts and has 10 losses on the season.

Analysis: Gerber made just his fifth appearance of January Sunday and looked very shaky after playing well in his previous outing -- a win against the Hurricanes. Consider Gerber a No. 2 Fantasy goalie or flier in leagues that use average points per game at this time. The Senators TG still remains a high-end Fantasy option.
News: Senators goalie Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots during a 3-1 loss to the Islanders Sunday. It was the second time in his last four outings he lost. Gerber has started two of the last three games for Ottawa.
Analysis: The Senators continue to bounce back and forth between goalies. Ray Emery had the hot hand for a while, but now Gerber seems to be getting a fair amount of starts. The situation in Ottawa remains sketchy, so look to Gerber as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie at this time. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option.
News:Martin Gerber, who stopped 22 shots during the game, denied Jochen Hecht on Buffalo's sixth attempt to give Ottawa its third straight win. Gerber has not played since Jan. 1, giving way to Ray Emery.

Gerber has allowed 10 goals on just 37 shots against the Capitals this season -- both losses and both coming in his last two starts. Emery made 15 saves and allowed two goals in relief of Gerber.
Analysis: As long as he doesn't have to face the Capitals, Gerber has been outstanding this season. He was rolling right along before two games against the Capitals, but likely will now lose some starts in favor of Emery. If Gerber still sees the majority of starts, consider him a No. 1 Fantasy option. The Senators TG is a No. 1 Fantasy option no matter who is in net.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber allowed seven goals on 30 shots in an 8-6 loss to the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.
Analysis: Gerber had only allowed a total of six goals in his previous three games before entering Saturday night, so this outing has to be counted as a slightly freakish one. It would take a couple of games like this for Gerber to lose his starting job to Ray Emery, who should get a start in one of Ottawa's back-to-back games next week. Consider Gerber a No. 2 Fantasy goalie in Fantasy Week 14 (Dec. 31-Jan. 6) as he will likely only get two starts, but the Senators TG remains one of the best starts in the league.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber tied Evgeni Nabokov for the NHL lead with 19 wins as Ottawa handled the Islanders 5-2 on Thursday night. Gerber made 25 saves.
Analysis: Gerber has now won three games in a row and his fine play of late ensures that Ray Emery remains on the bench in Ottawa. Analysis: Gerber has been outstanding since replacing Ray Emery during a game Dec. 12 against the Hurricanes. He seems to be the flavor of the month in Ottawa and has re-emerged as a solid No. 2 Fantasy goalie for the time being. Gerber is 4-1-0 in his past five starts, with a 2.00 GAA. The Senators TG remains a must-start Fantasy option.

Analysis: Gerber (15-4-1) got off to an outstanding start this season while Ray Emery was nursing an injury and remained in net for most of November even with Emery healthy. However, Emery has seen most of the action in December and could be regaining his claim as top Ottawa goalie. Emery's hip injury is not serious at this time, but Gerber remains a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or someone to use in leagues that have average points per game until further notice. The Senators TG is a No. 1 Fantasy option.

The Senators TG is a No. 1 Fantasy option.

He was replaced by former Hurricanes goalie Martin Gerber. Senators officials said Emery could return on an emergency basis, but did not. He earned the win despite only making one save. The Senators held on for a 6-0 win while Gerber stopped 31 shots in relief.
Analysis: Gerber lasted appeared in net Dec. 1 against the Rangers as the team was using the hot hand in Emery. This injury could once again open the door for Gerber to steal starts, but he is merely a low-end Fantasy option until he starts seeing regular appearances.
News:Martin Gerber, who shut out the Rangers 2-0 on Oct. 6, made his 19th start of the season Saturday against New York but was replaced by Ray Emery after allowing three goals on 12 first-period shots. Emery finished the game by allowing one goal on 11 shots as the Senators lost 5-2.
Analysis: Gerber has been pulled from net in two of his last three starts. He is winless in his last four appearances, which include consecutive losses. If he is not careful, the Senators will start handing Emery some more starts. News: Senators G Ray Emery took over in goal in the second period Saturday against the Flyers in relief of Martin Gerber, who allowed three goals on 25 shots. Emery surrendered the final goal and made 16 saves as the Senators lost a third straight game for the first time since last March.
Analysis: Emery actually took the loss Saturday because he allowed the decisive goal in a 4-3 loss. Gerber has not recorded a win in his last two starts and has allowed eight goals in that span. Analysis: Gerber hasn't really struggled this season, so there is no telling how he will rebound coming off a devastating loss like Thursday. Don't be surprised if Ray Emery picks up a start next time out, but Gerber and the Senators TG remain high-end Fantasy options until told otherwise.
News: The Sabres peppered Ottawa goalie Ray Emery with 31 shots Wednesday. Emery, making just his second start in eight games and fourth overall, allowed four or more goals for the third time. Emery looked bad on the Sabres' second goal, a wrister from the high slot by Ales Kotalik. Other than that, he was happy with his game. Martin Gerber will be between the pipes for Ottawa Thursday when the Senators host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Analysis: Emery finished with 27 saves and lost his second in a row. Emery has now allowed four goals in each of his past three outings. The latest, which was just his fourth start of the season, saw Emery surrender three first-period goals. Martin Gerber continues to be the best option in net for the Senators right now and that kills Emery's Fantasy value. They will likely continue to split time until further notice. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options. Gerber remains a solid No. 1 Fantasy option.

News: Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots for his league-leading 11th win during Saturday's 3-1 win over the Canadiens. "Everyone's talking about the way (Canadiens G Cristobal) Huet played -- he played unbelievable but our goalie played unbelievable, too," forward Chris Neil said. "He stepped up and played another solid game for us and he's done it all year."
Analysis: Neil knows what he is talking about. Gerber has won his seventh straight start Saturday and has lost just once this season. Ottawa continues to throw Ray Emery starts, but they realize benching Gerber for too long is not an option at this stage. Gerber remains a No. 2 Fantasy option and the Senators TG is still a No. 1 Fantasy option.

Ottawa, which raced through the first three rounds of the playoffs with a 12-3 mark before losing a five-game final to Anaheim last spring, is off to the best start in NHL history through 14 games with a 13-1-0 mark and a record total of 26 points.
Analysis: The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber should be treated as a low-end No. 2 option as long as he splits time in net with Ray Emery.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber made 21 saves in regualtion and overtime, and picked up his fifth straight win after making two saves in a shootout during Sunday's 2-1 victory over the Bruins. Gerber made 17 saves during Saturday's 3-2 victory against the Bruins. He now has a NHL-leading nine wins. Gerber has lost just once in nine starts and that came Oct. 11 against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The Senators are in such a great situation. They have two goalies, Gerber and Ray Emery, that are playing well and keeping Ottawa in the win column. Both goalies are going to split time in net as long as they remain consistent and the Senators keep on winning. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options as long as they split time in net.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber made 17 saves during Saturday's 3-2 victory against the Bruins for his NHL-leading eighth win of the season. He has lost just once in nine starts and that came Oct. 11 against the Hurricanes. He has since won his last four starts.
News: Martin Gerber made 25 saves for Ottawa during Saturday's 4-1 win over the Devils. Gerber made his first start since Oct. 18 and has now won his last three starts. He has won seven of his eight starts.
Analysis: Gerber remains strong in net even with the return of Ray Emery. Both goalies are going to split time in net as long as they remain consistent and the Senators keep on winning. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options as long as they split time in net. Fantasy owners will definitely want to keep an eye on the developments in the coming weeks.
News: Ray Emery made 31 saves in his first regular-season start of the season to help the Ottawa Senators beat the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Saturday night. Emery, who underwent offseason wrist surgery, did play two games last weekend for the Senators' AHL affiliate in Binghamton, stopping 80 of 86 shots. The Panthers got their lone goal on a power play in the second period when Richard Zednik stuffed a loose puck between Emery and the goal post.
Analysis: Emery picked up Saturday where he left off in 2006-07. He finished last season 33-16-6 with a 2.47 GAA. He also posted five shutouts. But now that Emery is back, Fantasy owners won't be totally happy. Huh? Martin Gerber started the season 6-1-0 with a 2.13 GAA in place of Emery. Sens head coach John Paddock will likely split time between the two goalies as long as Gerber remains hot. The Senators TG is without a doubt a No. 1 Fantasy option, but Gerber and Emery should be treated as low-end No. 2 options as long as they split time in net. Fantasy owners will definitely want to keep an eye on the developments in the coming weeks.
News: Martin Gerber stopped 28 shots in Thursday's game against the Canadiens for his sixth win in seven starts. Ray Emery (wrist), back from a conditioning assignment in the AHL, dressed as his backup.
Analysis: Gerber is showing no signs of letting up, as he has played tremendously well in Emery's stead. However, look for coach John Paddock to get Emery back involved. The two will likely split starts for the Senators, which doesn't necessarily bode well for either of their Fantasy values.
News: The Ottawa Citizen reports that head coach John Paddock will wait until Wednesday to announce his starter in net for Thursday's game against the Canadiens. Ray Emery (wrist) is back from a conditioning assignment, but Martin Gerber has done little to lose his grip on the starting job.
Analysis: Gerber remains a must-start in all Fantasy leagues despite the return of Emery. We might get a goaltender split at best, unless Emery stumbles out of the gate. It's hard for Paddock to get away from Gerber right now with the Senators in first place by six points already and showing no signs of letting up.
News: Martin Gerber made 36 saves to lift the Senators to a 3-1 victory over the Rangers on Saturday. Gerber wasn't tested much until the midpoint of the third period when the Rangers pressed during a 5-on-3 advantage. Gerber denied Brendan Shanahan at the left post, off a feed from Scott Gomez, and then stopped Gomez from point-blank range at the right post. He even threw the puck to center ice to escape trouble during the power play. Gerber's bid for his eighth NHL shutout was spoiled with 1:09 left on Jaromir Jagr's first of the season and 100th with the Rangers (2-3).
Analysis: Gerber is 6-1 against the Rangers, allowing only 11 goals in the process. Counting his 35-save, 2-0 victory last Saturday in Ottawa, Gerber has stopped all but one of the 72 New York shots he faced this season. He improved to 5-1-0 after Saturday's win and his only blemish came on Thursday when Carolina beat him for four goals. Continue to start him in all Fantasy formats while Ray Emery is not 100 percent. Continue to start the Senators TG as well.
News: Martin Gerber allowed four goals on 31 shots in Thursday's game against the Hurricanes, as he took his first loss in five starts.
Analysis: Gerber, who was rested in Wednesday's game at Atlanta, will likely be the starter for Saturday's game at N.Y. Rangers opposite Henrik Lundqvist. He remains a must-start in all Fantasy leagues despite the loss.
News: Martin Gerber made 27 saves for his fourth straight win in Monday's game against New Jersey. Gerber is starting while No. 1 Ray Emery recovers from offseason wrist surgery. "We've had more consistency this year," said Gerber, who struggled early last season before losing the starting job to Emery in mid-November.
Analysis: Gerber is playing so well that when Emery is finally able to return, he might have to play well to get his starting job back. It is hard to imagine head coach John Paddock making any kind of a chance. Gerber has re-emerged as a No. 1 Fantasy goaltender right now, but the bottom can drop out at any time.
News: Martin Gerber stopped 35 shots for his eighth career shutout and Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist, leading the Ottawa Senators to a 2-0 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday. Gerber, who got his first shutout since Feb. 14, has led Ottawa to three straight wins to begin the season while starting goalie Ray Emery recovers from offseason wrist surgery.
Analysis: As good as Gerber has been in place of Emery, he will likely head back to the bench once Emery is ready to play. Although, he remains great insurance just in case Emery remains injury-prone in 2007-08. Continue to track the news out of Ottawa, but we don't expect Gerber to be anything more than a No. 3 Fantasy goalie when Emery returns. The Senators TG is a must-start Fantasy option no matter who is between the pipes.
News: Martin Gerber made 41 saves for the Senators in Thursday's home opener against the Maple Leafs, picking up his second win in as many nights. "You play your big rival and you win both games -- it's a good start," Gerber said.
Analysis: Gerber, who is filling in for Ray Emery (wrist), might play a lot more games than originally expected with this blazing start. Emery might be ready to play on Saturday against the Rangers, but Gerber has earned the right to start that game. If he does and Emery is healthy, we might officially have a goaltender controversy.
News: Martin Gerber allowed three goals on 29 shots in Wednesday's regular season opener at Toronto, picking up the overtime win against Andrew Raycroft. He was getting the start with Ray Emery (wrist) not quite ready to return from injury.
Analysis: Gerber is the man in the crease for the Senators for at least the first three regular season games. He is still only worth a No. 3 Fantasy option in cumulative leagues, although he is a low-end No. 1 or solid No. 2 in formats which average points per game in a scoring period.
News:TSN.ca reports the Ottawa Senators will go with Martin Gerber for at least the first week of the season to start in goal. Ray Emery is still recovering from the wrist injury he suffered last season. "He's not going to play in Toronto and he's not going to play on the weekend," Senators head coach John Paddock said. "It's just like any other player; he's got to be game ready."
Analysis: Gerber was 10-0-0-2 in his last 12 starts to end the 2006-07 season. He picked up three wins and a 1.97 GAA and .947 save percentage in five games during the preseason. He is worth a look in all Fantasy leagues if you can make late lineup moves leading up to Wednesday.
News: Martin Gerber made 52 saves to help the Ottawa Senators beat the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 in a preseason game Tuesday night. Philadelphia tried to rally in the second, outshooting the Senators 22-7, but the Flyers were stymied by Gerber.
Analysis: Gerber did a tremendous job for the Senators, who were shopping him during the offseason. He appears to be settling back in as the backup and will be ready if Ray Emery (wrist) suffers any setbacks or further injuries.
News: Martin Gerber allowed two goals on 31 shots in Tuesday's game at St. Louis to pick up another win and push his unbeaten streak to 11 games.

News: Martin Gerber allowed three goals on 25 shots in Sunday's game at Chicago, as the Senators fell in a shootout. Radim Vrbata beat Ottawa goalie Martin Gerber with backhand shots high on the stick side in the extra session. "I know Gerber from Carolina," Vrbata said. "I wasn't sure he'd remember that shot. He didn't."
Analysis: Gerber's Fantasy value remains limited to those formats which average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Martin Gerber got the start in Tuesday's game at Carolina in a matchup against his former team. He made 23 saves on 25 shots to pick up the victory.
Analysis: Gerber has been impressive, as he did a great job taking over the reins when Ray Emery was suspended. Gerber is 7-0-1 in his past eight starts and a great addition in all Fantasy leagues which average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Buffalo's Martin Biron got into a rare goaltender fight with Ottawa's Ray Emery on Thursday night in Buffalo after a blindside hit on Chris Drury from Chris Neil. Martin Gerber finished up the game by allowing two goals on 17 shots and taking up a loss in the shootout.
Analysis: Emery racked up 22 penalty minutes and will likely face a stiff fine and possibly another suspension for his actions, considering the fact he just came off a suspension. That's not going to look good to the NHL. Expect a punishment to be announced as soon as Friday. Gerber was playing well in Emery's stead before and he is worth adding in all Fantasy leagues which average points per game with another possible suspension for Emery looming.
News: Martin Gerber stopped 27 shots for his sixth straight win and third in relief of Ray Emery, the Senators' No. 1 goalie who served the last of a three-game suspension for slashing Montreal's Maxim Lapierre.
Analysis: Gerber might be rewarded with another start on Thursday at Buffalo since he has been playing so well, despite the fact Emery is eligible to return from suspension.
News: Martin Gerber made 28 saves for Ottawa in a 5-3 win over the Thrashers Saturday.
Analysis: Gerber has won five straight games, including two since taking over for the suspended Ray Emery, who is eligible to return Feb. 22. Use Gerber as a stopgap Fantasy option while he is in net, but he could gain more Fantasy value since he has been playing well in net.
News: Martin Gerber made 28 saves for his first shutout of the season and 10 Ottawa players scored points in the Senators' 4-0 win over the Florida Panthers on Wednesday night. Making a rare start in place of suspended goalie Ray Emery, Gerber got his first shutout in 21 games with Ottawa this season. It was the Swiss goalie's seventh career blanking and first in 51 regular-season games since Jan. 7, 2006, when he stopped 30 shots in Carolina's 3-0 road win over the New York Islanders. "Of course it was good, getting the two points at home and a shutout is always fun, but it's just a game," Gerber said. "I've got to prepare for the next game. It's going to be huge."
Analysis: Gerber lost the starting job in mid-November to Emery, who began a three-game NHL suspension for striking Montreal's Maxim Lapierre in the face with his stick on Saturday. Emery is eligible to return to the lineup on Feb. 22. Gerber might be a solid play on Wednesday in daily Fantasy leagues due to his mastery of the Panthers during his career.
News: Martin Gerber is about to play his first set of back-to-back games since he lost two in a row three months ago. And now he's even got himself something to build on. Gerber, who inherited the Senators' No. 1 goalie job when Ray Emery was handed a three game suspension for slashing Montreal's Maxim Lapierre, stopped all 28 shots he faced in a 4-0 victory over Florida Wednesday. It was the seventh shutout of his career and first since Jan. 7, 2006 when he was still a Carolina Hurricane. On Saturday afternoon in Ottawa, Gerber will face a much tougher task when Marian Hossa, Ilya Kovalchuk and the Atlanta Thrashers provide the opposition.
Analysis: This three game set with Emery out of the lineup will be an audition for Gerber. If he performs well, he will likely be back in the good graces of Bryan Murray. Use Gerber as a stopgap Fantasy option while he is in net, but he could gain more Fantasy value depending on his upcoming performances.
News: Martin Gerber is 6-1-1 with a 2.23 GAA in eight career starts versus the Panthers - his most wins against any opponent - and has the full support of his teammates. "(Gerber) has been working hard," center Jason Spezza told Ottawasenators.com. "We've been riding Ray (Emery) and he's been great. Now Gerbs steps in, and we feel confident with him."
Analysis: Gerber will likely start all three games while Ray Emery is suspended. Emery is eligible to return to the lineup on Feb. 22. Gerber might be a solid play on Wednesday in daily Fantasy leagues due to his mastery of the Panthers during his career.
News: Ottawa goalie Ray Emery was suspended three games by the NHL on Monday for slashing Montreal forward Maxim Lapierre. Emery swung his stick and hit Lapierre in the face during the second period of the Senators' 5-3 win Saturday night over the Canadiens. Emery got a minor penalty on the play. Lapierre, who was wearing a visor, was not hurt.
Analysis: Emery will be eligible to return Feb. 22 at Buffalo. He has a 24-13-2 record, 2.40 goals-against average and .923 save percentage this season. For now, it appears that Martin Gerber will get the starts this week, so give him a go in your league as a No. 2 goalie.
News: Dany Heatley scored his 31st goal and Martin Gerber made 35 saves to lead Ottawa to a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night.

News: Martin Gerber, making a rare home start in place of Ray Emery, made 20 saves, allowing only R.J. Umberger's goal.
Analysis: The last time Gerber started at Scotiabank Place was Nov. 13 in a 6-3 loss to Montreal. Since then, he's had to settle for road work and one home relief appearance. He is only worth using as a No. 2 or 3 Fantasy goaltender in leagues which average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Senators G Martin Gerber only needed to make 26 stops on Saturday in a 6-3 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Saturday was only the fifth time Gerber has been in net in December and it was only his third start of the month. Gerber should only be used in leagues that use averages.
News: TSN.ca reports Ray Emery will start in goal for the Senators on Tuesday night against the Bruins instead of Martin Gerber, who has been in net for all of their other meetings.
Analysis: Set your daily Fantasy lineups accordingly. Emery has not been in the crease this season against the Bruins.
News: Ottawa's Martin Gerber gave up four goals on 13 shots before being pulled in favor of Ray Emery midway through the second period in Sunday's game at Columbus. Emery allowed two goals on 18 shots.

News: Martin Gerber won his second straight start in Monday's game at N.Y. Islanders, turning aside 24 of 26 shots he faced. "I don't want him to sit forever," coach Bryan Murray said. "He struggled early as our team did but it looks like he's got it back."
Analysis: Gerber is clearly the No. 2 goaltender in Ottawa, but that could change if Ray Emery struggles for a long period or suffers an injury. Gerber remains a decent play in Fantasy leagues which average points per game in a scoring period.
News: Martin Gerber will square off against his former teammates at Carolina on Tuesday. "Watching him in practice, he looks a lot better," coach Bryan Murray told the Ottawa Citizen. "He looks more poised and confident, and it's time, no question. You can only let a guy sit for so long."
Analysis: Gerber is likely to kick it up a notch against coach Peter Laviolette and Cam Ward, the goaltender who took his job during the playoffs last season.
News: Martin Gerber allowed five goals on 31 shots in Monday's game against the Canadiens to drop another game.
Analysis: Gerber has won just two of his 11 starts this season (2-8-1) and is no longer considered a must-start in most Fantasy leagues. Keep him on reserve until he gets it together and posts a couple of decent starts.

News: Once again, the Senators couldn't hold a lead and lost 5-4 to Atlanta on Wednesday. Goalie Martin Gerber continued to struggle as he fell to 2-6-1 while stopping only 26 of 31 shots. The Senators blew 3-1 and 4-2 advantages. It was the third straight game that Ottawa blew a lead. "I felt pretty confident, but I couldn't finish it," Gerber said. "They have a very high-skilled team

"He's not going to be phenomenal," Murray told the Ottawa Citizen. "He's a good goaltender, a steady guy who, on most nights, is going to be very competitive for us."
Analysis: Gerber stumbled through the preseason, a lot like he did early in the postseason for Carolina before losing his job to Cam Ward. The Senators TG as a whole will be an adequate unit as long as Emery and Gerber can remain healthy.

Analysis: Gerber has let in three goals in each of his past six games, but he has played better than Cam Ward.
