Habs' Plekanec Helps Out In Win

News: Tomas Plekanec grabbed two helpers in Thursday's win over the Bruins.

Canadiens' Plekanec In Offensive Role

News: Tomas Plekanec, who has three goals in the first two games, has been able to play more offensively because Manny Malhotra is taking on more of the defensive responsibilities that burdened Plekanec in recent seasons, the Montreal Gazette reports. "[Malhotra's] taken on the defensive roles that Pleky was playing and, as a coach, I'm able to use Pleky in more offensive roles, and so far it's been pretty good," said head coach Michel Therrien.
Analysis: Prior to Malhotra, it was Tomas Plekanec that would take important defensive-zone faceoffs and get the load of ice time when Montreal was a man down. Now, Malhotra is able to assume some of that responsibility, freeing Plekanec to take a more offensive bent. It also helps that he's been skating with better offensive players, like Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher.

Habs' Plekanec Scores Two

News: Tomas Plekanec tallied a pair of goals in Thursday's 5-4 win over Detroit.
Analysis: His two first-period tallies had Montreal up 2-0, but they ended up blowing the lead, only to pull the game out in the third. Tomas Plekanec has a respectable six points in his last seven games -- not mind-blowing, but a great improvement over the five points he'd collected in the prior 20 contests.

Habs' Plekanec Humming Along

News: Tomas Plekanec has tallied 17 goals and 16 assists in 59 games this season.
Analysis: Tomas Plekanec remains a bit behind on last season's scoring pace, but that hasn't prevented him from generating buzz for the Selke Trophy. His solid work on the defensive end has made up for his recent scoring slide, as he's managed only three points in his last 11 games.

Habs' Plekanec Has Strong Two-Way Game

News: Tomas Plekanec had a team-high 11 shots on goal and helped prevent Chicago's top scoring line from doing much damage in Saturday night's 2-1 overtime win over the Blackhawks.
Analysis: While Marian Hossa (four shots) did score the Hawks' lone goal, he, Jonathan Toews (one shot) and Patrick Sharp (one shot) were held in check by Tomas Plekanec, Brian Gionta and Travis Moen. Plekanec also won 10 of 18 faceoffs. Monster game from a player who will get consideration for the Selke Trophy.

Habs' Plekanec Notches Two Points

News: Tomas Plekanec picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday's loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: After a slow start to the year, he's had a pair of two-point performances in the last three games. Tomas Plekanec should be good for his usual 50-plus points with upside to 70, so he's a worthy starter in formats that can start more than two centers.

Habs' Plekanec Tallies Twice

News: Tomas Plekanec scored the game-winning goal with 1:07 left in the third period Thursday against Columbus, then added a shorthanded empty-netter before time ran out.
Analysis: Tomas Plekanec had been off to a quiet start to the season, managing just two points in six games. He's still got just one power-play point, reflecting some uncommon ineffectiveness on the man advantage, as Plekanec has consistently been good for close to 20 power-play points per full season.
