Schubert held out a third game

News: Thrashers D Christoph Schubert missed a third straight game on Thursday against the Hurricanes because of a lower-body injury. He was placed on injured reserve.
Analysis: Schubert was eyeing a Thursday return, but it just didn't end up being in the cards. Schubert has played regularly in 2009-10 after wearing out his welcome in Ottawa last season. Still, Schubert is on the ice for his defense. He is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats and PIM.

Schubert watches from press box

News: Thrashers D Christoph Schubert was a healthy scratch on Wednesday against the Flames. He has no points in his last 11 games, including three December contests.
Analysis: Schubert has played 25 times for Atlanta in 2009-10 and has been a healthy scratch on occasion. Schubert is a versatile option for Atlanta. He plays on defense but also as a winger. Still, he is not primarily on the ice for his offense. Schubert is mainly a forechecking presence. He is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats and PIM.

Schubert active against Blues

News: Atlanta D Christoph Schubert was able to play on Thursday against the Blues after he was initially considered doubtful due to a personal matter. He did not record a point in the game.
Analysis: Thrashers general manager Don Waddell picked up the 6-foot-3, 230 pound Schubert, who can also play left wing if needed, to add more size and strength to Atlanta's blueline. However, Atlanta has a lot of talent on defense and it could be difficult for Schubert to crack the lineup on a nightly basis. Schubert has minimal Fantasy appeal.

News: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that D Christoph Schubert might not play Thursday at St. Louis because he is having immigration issues.

Schubert plays a little defense

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Christoph Schubert has often voiced his desire to become a regular on the blue line in the NHL. When he's in the Senators' lineup, it's most often as a fourth-line left wing. However, with D Anton Volchenkov sitting out Sund against the Rangers for maintenance reasons, Schubert was paired with Chris Campoli. The German finished minus-1 in 14:47 of ice time.
Analysis: Schubert was really hoping to be dealt at the March 4 trade deadline, but he stayed put much to his dislike. Since Schubert's playing time can be a little erratic, he really has little to no Fantasy appeal at this time.

Schubert dangled as trade bait

News: Senators D Christoph Schubert returned to the lineup Tuesday against the Flames after missing one game with a groin injury. He didn't record a point in 10:07 of ice time and finished at even.
Analysis: The Senators dressed Schubert Tuesday to dangle him as trade bait in case anyone is interested in adding a versatile player. Schubert hasn't been a vital part of the Senators rotation this season, so trading him won't be a big deal for Ottawa. However, finding the right deal and suiting him could be. A trade to get more playing time can definitely help Schubert's Fantasy value, but he is just not worth owning in Fantasy at this time.

Schubert out with groin injury

News: Senators D Christoph Schubert was scratched Saturday against the Maple Leafs because of a groin injury. He remains questionable heading into Tuesday against the Flames.
Analysis: Schubert has been rumored to be on the trading block and putting him out with injury might just be a way for the team to keep him sidelined in case they worked out a deal Saturday. Schubert hasn't been a vital part of the Senators rotation this season, so trading him won't be a big deal for Ottawa. However, finding the right deal and suiting him could be. Schubert mentioned in trade rumors

News: Sportsnet.ca reports Christoph Schubert, who has played both at forward and on defense this season for Ottawa, is likely to be traded as the March 4 deadline approaches. He's been unhappy with his lack of playing time this season and hasn't asked for a trade, but has held talks with GM Bryan Murray regarding his prospects. "The trade deadline is coming up and my name is involved," Schubert said. "I don't really want to get moved, but obviously I want to play some hockey games again."

Schubert moved to fourth line

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Christoph Schubert was moved from the blue line to the fourth line Saturday against the Rangers, with Filip Kuba returning from an eight-game absence with a groin injury. In 11:43 of ice time, Schubert had four hits. The entire team had only 16.
Analysis: Schubert came into the season with the dreams of being a full-time blue liner, but that hasn't been the case under first-year coach Craig Hartsburg. The fact he is now getting time as a forward showcases his value on the blue line. Schubert is a heavy hitter, but since he has limited offensive skills he has limited Fantasy appeal.

Schubert trade bait for Sens?

News: The Sports Xchange reports that Senators D Christoph Schubert was a healthy scratch for the ninth time this season Wednesday. Schubert, who can play both wing and defense, is rumored to be trade bait.
Analysis: Schubert came into the season with high hopes of being a full-time defenseman, but he is logging just under eight minutes per game when he does see the ice. Schubert is a decent plus-minus guy and could be good for 20 points, if he ever gets onto the ice on a consistent basis. Consider him a low-end Fantasy reserve until he starts posting consistent minutes.

Schubert tallies third assist

News: Senators D Christoph Schubert tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 in 17:20 of ice time Wednesday against the Thrashers. It was his third assist of the season and second in seven games.
Analysis: Schubert is still not active every night for the Senators and was a minus-5 in his previous five games coming into Wednesday. He just hasn't impressed coach Brian Hartsburg, and until that changes, Schubert has limited Fantasy appeal.

Schubert tallies for first time

News: Senators D Christoph Schubert had his first goal and point during Monday's 5-2 win against the Sabres. Schubert scored his first of the season late in the first period while on the power play as he ripped an unassisted wrist shot past Patrick Lalime.
Analysis: Schubert finally played his first game on defense Saturday after playing his first four games as a left winger. He has also been a healthy scratch at times this season. If Schubert can provide consistent offense, he might land nightly minutes. For now, he remains a low-end Fantasy option.

Schubert finally plays some defense

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Christoph Schubert played his first game on defense this season Saturday against the Wild. He has been a left wing his other four games, and been a healthy scratch three times.
Analysis: Schubert came into the season with high hopes of being a full-time defenseman, but he is logging just under eight minutes per game. Schubert is a decent plus-minus guy and could be good for 20 points, if he ever gets onto the ice on a consistent basis. Schubert sitting in press box

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators LW Christoph Schubert was a healthy scratch for the second consecutive game Saturday against the Bruins. It's the first time Schubert has been given a seat in the press box in two years. "I played the best I could in the time I got, doing the same things I did the last three years," he said. "The coach said it's nothing I did wrong, it's just the numbers we have right now. It's just kind of unexpected. It's tough, but you know, nothing I can do. Like I said, I didn't do anything. I want to play again, hopefully soon, but I've got to keep my head up."
Analysis: Schubert came into the season with high hopes of being a full-time defenseman, but he played in the first three games and logged under 8 minutes per game. Schubert is a decent plus-minus guy and could be good for 20 points, if he ever gets onto the ice. Consider him a low-end Fantasy reserve until he starts posting consistent minutes.

Schubert eyeing full-time duty

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Christoph Schubert is determined to finally become a full-time blueliner. "I'm fighting for my spot," he said two weeks from the start of the season. Schubert, who has spent much time on the Senators' fourth line the last three seasons, is battling with former first-rounder Brian Lee and ex-Ottawa 67s captain Brendan Bell. Said coach Craig Hartsburg: "I know he wants to be a defenseman, but he wants to play in the NHL. I think it's great a player like that can do both."
Analysis: Schubert has missed just two games the last two seasons for Ottawa and should end up on the Senators' roster for most of the 2008-09 season. He had eight goals and 16 assists last season with 64 penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating. Schubert is a decent plus-minus guy and could be good for 20 points. Consider him a low-end Fantasy defenseman.
