Sharp Traded To Stars

News: The Blackhawks traded Patrick Sharp and Steven Johns to the Stars in exchange for Ryan Garbutt and Trevor Daley on Friday.
Analysis: It was only a matter of time before Patrick Sharp was traded by the Hawks, as the team needed to unload him due to cap constraints. There were reports that Sharp may end up with the Bruins, but he ultimately landed with the Stars, who have the cap space to take on his contract. Sharp had a wonderful 10-year career with the Blackhawks, raising the Stanley Cup on three different occasions over that span. He will likely assume a top-six role with the Stars, and will continue to be a solid offensive contributor for the foreseeable future. He tallied 16 goals and 27 assists for a total of 43 points in 68 games with Chicago in 2014-15.

Hawks' Sharp Could Be Headed To Boston

News: Patrick Sharp, who is expected to be traded this summer, could be headed to Boston, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: There have been discussions that Boston is interested and they have cap space. There was talk about Patrick Sharp going to the Penguins, but Pittsburgh's acquisition of Phil Kessel appears to make that possibility moot. The Blackhawks are expected to extend Marcus Kruger which would put them right at the cap of $71 million with no room for Sharp. He saw a major dip in his numbers from a career season in 2013-14. The forward registered a career-best of 78 points (34 goals and 44 assists, also a career best), but dropped to 16 goals and 27 assists in 2014-15.

Blackhawks' Sharp Likely To Be Dealt

News: Patrick Sharp is likely to be traded by the Blackhawks this offseason, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Despite winning their third Stanley Cup in six years, the Blackhawks don't have the cap room to keep the whole band together. Getting rid of Patrick Sharp -- whose role declined this season after he tallied a career-high 78 points in 2013-14 -- and his $5.9 cap hit would go a long way toward the Blackhawks' efforts to re-sign restricted free agent Brandon Saad, who would likely be difficult to retain if other teams were able to extend him an offer sheet. With free agency beginning July 1, look for the Blackhawks to be active over the weekend at the NHL Entry Draft as they attempt to find a suitor for Sharp.

Blackhawks' Sharp Opens Game 5 Scoring

News: Patrick Sharp opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the postseason in Saturday's Game 5 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: A fortunate break for Patrick Sharp, as Victor Hedman and Ben Bishop ran into each other on the play, allowing Sharp to tuck the puck into the empty net. The 33-year-old has three points in the Stanley Cup Finals and is now up to 15 points in 22 games this postseason. He's playing a key role for Chicago once again these playoffs and will have a chance to win his third Stanley Cup in six years Monday in Game 6 at the United Center.

Blackhawks' Sharp Records Assist In Game 4 Win

News: Patrick Sharp set up Jonathan Toews' second-period goal in Wednesday's Game 4 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp saw him production decline steadily during the regular season after he had tallied a career-high 78 points in 2013-14, but he's at laest shown a little more offensive involvement in the playoffs. He's collected four goals and 10 helpers in 21 games, though his 15:34 of average ice time is three minutes fewer than he received during last year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Hawks' Sharp Grabs Two Points In Game 5 Loss

News: Patrick Sharp tallied a pair of assists and six shots in Monday's Game 5 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: After a fast start to the playoffs with nine points through the first two rounds, Patrick Sharp needed until Game 4 of the Western Finals to get on the scoresheet but he's now tallied three points in the last two games. The winger will likely need another strong showing in Wednesday's Game 6 if the Blackhawks hope to stave off elimination.

Blackhawks' Sharp Captures Assist In Game 4

News: Patrick Sharp picked up an assist in Saturday's Game 4 victory over the Ducks.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp was given credit for setting up Antoine Vermette's game-winning goal, though the latter did most of the work in making the play happen. It still counts as the first point of the series for Sharp, who has nonetheless been one of the Blackhawks' best contributors this postseason. He's compiled four goals, six assists, and 45 shot attempts over the team's 14 playoff games.

Hawks' Sharp Chips In Two Points In Win

News: Patrick Sharp registered a goal, an assist, and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's Game 2 win over the Wild.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp has been on a roll during the playoffs as he's recorded a point in six of the team's eight games, including two multi-point efforts. His eight points are tied for seventh most this postseason and he's showing no signs of slowing down despite a disappointing regular season.

Hawks' Sharp Contributes Two Points In Game 6 Win

News: Patrick Sharp scored his third goal of the playoffs and added an assist in Saturday's series-clinching Game 6 win over the Predators.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp is having a great postseason, notching five points in six games to help Chicago advance on to the second round. He may be skating on the third line, but he's seeing quality power-play time and has fired 24 shots on goal -- fourth most in the NHL. With 41 goals in 112 career NHL playoff games, look for the postseason performer to continue to light it up in the second round.

Hawks' Sharp Supplies Goal In Comeback Win

News: Patrick Sharp collected a power-play goal in Wednesday's double-overtime victory over the Predators in Game 1 of the first-round series.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp's goal was one of three the Blackhawks supplied in the second period, tying the game after the Predators raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes. While this season has qualified as a disappointment for Sharp, he still might make for a good value play in daily formats during the playoffs due to his presence on the Hawks' powerful second power-play unit.

Hawks' Sharp To Skate Thursday

News: Patrick Sharp just had a rest day on Wednesday as the reason for not skating in Blackhawks' morning practice, but will be in the lineup on Thursday against the Canucks, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp's numbers are down this year -- 14 goals and 26 assists -- part of that is due to missing time with a leg injury, but his play has contributed to the Blackhawks sputtering at times on offense this season. In his career against the Canucks, Sharp has 10 goals and six assists in 30 games.

Hawks' Sharp Gathers Two Points In Win

News: Patrick Sharp tallied a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp ended a 19-game goalless slump on March 14, and didn't have to wait quite as long for the next one as he found the back of the net yet again four games later. The 33-year-old has turned in eight pointless performances in his last 11 outings, but each of the three times he managed to get on the scoresheet were multi-point efforts. The winger is having one of the worst seasons of his career, but he's still capable of providing enough to make him worth keeping around.

Hawks' Sharp Helps Out In Win

News: Patrick Sharp notched two assists and went plus-4 in Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Islanders.
Analysis: The line of Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa dominated this game, with that trio combining for eight points and a plus-12 rating. It's been a down year for Sharp, who's starting to fade noticeably at age 33, but he's ripped off four points and a plus-7 rating in the last two games after going six straight off the scoresheet.

Hawks' Sharp Ends 19-Game Goalless Drought

News: Patrick Sharp broke out of his 19-game goalless slump in a big way Saturday, sniping a pair of goals and skating to a plus-3 in a 6-2 win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp got the party started 6:03 into the first, and added a second snipe for good measure with just under five minutes remaining in the third. His recent goal-scoring woes have been well documented, but he hasn't even been contributing in the assist department either, having recorded just two helpers in the aforementioned 19 games. It's hard not to consider him an elite fantasy option given his recent success (34 goals, 78 points, 313 SOG, plus-13 last year), but with just 12 goals and 22 assists this season, he remains one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of 2014-15.

Hawks' Sharp Looks To End Drought Saturday

News: Patrick Sharp is looking to end a goal drought in Saturday's game against the Sharks that has lasted since Jan. 28, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp has eight goals and 14 assists in his career against Saturday's opponent, the Sharks. While Sharp has missed some time with a leg injury, his totals of 10 goals and 22 assists put him on tap for his worst season since 2008-09, when he collected 26 goals and 18 assists in 61 games. He'll need to raise his production in the near future or risk seeing his role diminish even further.

Blackhawks' Sharp Registers Assist

News: Patrick Sharp picked up an assist in Tuesday's shootout win over the Panthers.
Analysis: It was the first point in nine games for Patrick Sharp, ending his longest scoring drought of the season. Sharp's ice time had been on the decline amid his struggles, but with the Blackhawks losing Patrick Kane (upper body) to a long-term injury Tuesday, Sharp should be in line for an uptick in minutes. The Blackhawks will be counting on him and other supporting wingers like Kris Versteeg and Brandon Saad to ramp up their production in Kane's absence.

Hawks' Sharp Registers Four-Assist Game

News: Patrick Sharp had a big Friday night with four assists in the Blackhawks' 4-1 victory over the Ducks.
Analysis: It was the third four-assist game of Patrick Sharp's career, with his last coming in the fall of 2013. After a recent three-game point drought, he has a goal and eight assists in his last five games. While Sharp won't reach his career-best scoring total from a season ago, some of that decline can be attributed to a leg injury that cost him 14 games across November and December.

Two-Point Night For Hawks' Sharp

News: Patrick Sharp notched a power-play goal and an assist in Wednesday's loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Both of Patrick Sharp's tallies came in the first period, giving him his second multi-point outing in three games. Last season's 78-point campaign will probably go down as the high point for his career, but the 33-year-old Sharp still scores with enough frequency to warrant a roster spot in any format.

Blackhawks' Sharp Notches Two Helpers

News: Patrick Sharp dished out a pair of assists -- one on the power play -- and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 6-1 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: It's been a down campaign for Patrick Sharp, but he's been looking better over the last couple games, notching three assists (two of them on the man advantage). With only nine goals to show for 136 shots, he's well off his career shooting percentage, but Sharp is still shooting as often as ever, so it's reasonable to assume that he'll find his way into the goal column more often in the season's second half.

Blackhawks' Sharp Scores Third Goal In Four Games

News: Patrick Sharp scored the overtime-winning goal, had an assist, and fired six shots on goal in Sunday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Turn down for what? Patrick Sharp has been outstanding of late and is showing no signs of slowing down. The 33-year-old sniper is now sporting a four-game point streak, tallying three goals and two assists in that span. With five goals and 10 points in his last nine games, Sharp is once again proving to be one of the best fantasy options around. He has 25 shots on goal in his last four games and has appeared on the scoresheet in nine of his last 11 outings. Keep him rolling.

Sharp Powers Blackhawks In Loss

News: Patrick Sharp netted a power-play goal in a 3-2 loss to the Capitals in Thursday's annual Winter Classic.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp used the outdoor environment of Nationals Park to his advantage, as Capitals goalie Braden Holtby never saw the puck leave the forward's stick while the sun beamed down on him. But he didn't solely rest on trickery to deliver a superb showing for the Blackhawks, as he finished with a game-high 10 shots, which also represented his best total for the season.

Hawks' Sharp Scores On Birthday

News: Patrick Sharp scored a goal on his birthday on Saturday in the Blackhawks' 5-2 victory over the Avalanche.
Analysis: For next season you might want to keep Dec. 27 in mind. Last season, Patrick Sharp scored a hat trick on his birthday and this year he scored a goal. Sharp has six goals and 10 assists in 22 games, but missed a month of games with a leg injury. He has three goals and four assists since he returned from the injury on Dec. 9.

Hawks' Sharp Dishes Out Trio Of Assists

News: Patrick Sharp dished out a trio of assists in Sunday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Patrick Sharp has been dominant in his past two games, recording four points, 11 shots on goal and a plus-3 rating. The 32-year-old now has 15 points (seven goals) in 20 games, to go with a minus-3 rating. He should be in your lineup every night he's in action.

Hawks' Sharp Snipes Fifth Of Season

News: Patrick Sharp sniped his fifth goal of the season and recorded a game-high seven shots on goal in Saturday's loss to Columbus.
Analysis: A dominant outing from Patrick Sharp, who has now collected two goals in his past three games, recording 14 shots on goal in that span. Sharp may currently be skating on the third line, but he is playing on the top power-play unit and will likely be moved back into the top-six soon. The 32-year-old has put 12 points in 19 games on the season, making him a reliable fantasy option on a Hawks team sitting second in the Western Conference.

Hawks' Sharp Scores In Win

News: Patrick Sharp scored a power-play goal in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Playing in just his fourth game in over a month, Patrick Sharp netted his first goal since the end of October. The 32-year-old has 11 points through 17 games, and as he shakes off the rust from his leg injury, the points should start to come more frequently.
