Analysis: It was just the second game of the season for Aaron Rome, who previously battled a groin injury, but the heavy ice time he logged Saturday suggests that he is back to full health, or at least close to it. His role with the Stars is primarily that of a shut-down defender though, which limits his fantasy upside.
News:Aaron Rome (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Red Wings, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Analysis: It was reported Monday that Aaron Rome wasn't traveling with the team for its two-game road swing, so his absence his no surprise. Look for him to return Friday against Phoenix, assuming he's flushed the flu symptoms out of his system by that point.

News:Aaron Rome is currently dealing with a groin injury and was held out of the end of Tuesday's scrimmage as a precaution.

News:Aaron Rome has agreed to a three-year deal with Dallas worth $4.5 million, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.

News: Updating a previous post, Aaron Rome left Saturday's game with what is being classified as a knee injury after taking a hit from Avalanche defenseman Matt Hunwick, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: "He tweaked his knee, nothing serious," said head coach Alian Vigneault. "He'll get re-evaluated (Sunday) but it looks like it's going to be seven to 10 days." The loss is by no means huge in fantasy terms as Aaron Rome has just 10 points registered over 41 games, but it does thin out the Canucks' blue line at a very inopportune time of the season.
News:Aaron Rome (lower body) will not return to Saturday's game, according to a report on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Analysis: There's still no word on the severity of the injury or whether he'll miss much time. He provides limited fantasy value when healthy.

News:Aaron Rome, who had been sidelined since Dec. 17 with a thumb injury, saw 16 minutes of ice time in Thursday's win over the Blues.

Analysis: There's no word on the nature or severity of the problem. Consider him day-to-day until we can get more info.
News:Aaron Rome saw time on the Canucks' fourth line in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jackets, but he was back on the blue line by the third period, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: With multiple forwards out of the lineup due to injury, Canucks coach Alain Vigneault opted to give Aaron Rome a look on the fourth line. The experiment only lasted two periods, but it's worth keeping an eye on to see how Rome is deployed going forward. He could pick up some extra value if he gets additional looks at forward.
News:Aaron Rome will take Sami Salo's place in the lineup Thursday night against Nashville, SportsNet's Dan Murphy reports.

News:Aaron Rome scored a goal and added two assists on top of that Sunday against the Islanders.
Analysis:Aaron Rome has five points in four games this season, which ties his career high for points that he set last season. This has all the makings of a total fluke.
News:Aaron Rome, who was sidelined with a broken finger, made his season debut Sunday.
Analysis: He saw 14:09 minutes of ice time, including 1:39 minutes on the power play. Aaron Rome was filling in on the power play for the injured Sami Salo, so his time with the man advantage isn't likely to stick long term. While important to the Canucks, Rome is the type of stay-at-home defenseman who rarely makes an impact in fantasy.

News: Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said Aaron Rome (broken finger) will return to action during the team's current road trip, the Vancouver Sun reports.

News: Rome has been suspended for four games by the NHL in the wake of his blind-side hit on Boston's Nathan Horton in Monday's Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, cknw.com reports.
Analysis: The hit knocked Horton out for the rest of the series, so the Bruins get some retribution, though Horton is far more of an impact player than Rome. How this affects the Canucks most is that their blue line depth will be further taxed, with Rome now done for the playoffs and Dan Hamhuis currently nursing an injury.
News: Rome was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a head shot on Boston's Nathan Horton in Monday's Game 3 loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: He'll likely face disciplinary action for the blindside hit as he left his feet and led with a shoulder to Horton's head. To make matters worse, Horton has already been diagnosed with a severe concussion and will not return to game action this season.

Analysis: The Canucks are off until Wednesday, so Rome should have plenty of time to get healthy.
News: Following multiple injuries to the Canucks' blue line, Rome is expected to have his role increased, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Rome is currently averaging 16:22 minutes of ice time per game, but he should routinely top 20 minutes for the next couple weeks. Even with the increase in ice time, Rome is more of a stay-at-home defenseman and will have trouble racking up much point production.
News: As expected, Rome returned from a a knee injury Friday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: He finished plus-1 in over 18 minutes of ice time. The low-scoring blueliner could see some heavy minutes in the short term, but his role will decrease once Sami Salo (Achilles) returns to action.

News: Rome (knee) skated Monday, but will not be ready to return to action Tuesday against the Stars, the Canucks' official site reports.
Analysis: Rome is nearing the original 2-3 week timetable put on his return when he suffered a sprained MCL on Jan. 14. The low-scoring defenseman will be a big boost to the Canucks' injury-riddled back end when he returns, but he doesn't put up the type of point production needed for most formats.
News: Rome, out since January 14 with a sprained MCL, has been skating before practice and coach Alain Vigneault says he will be close to returning after the All-Star break, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: That will put him right on the original 2-3 week timetable, so the All-Star break helps here as the Canucks will hopefully start to get some depth reinforcements back.
News: Rome has a mild knee sprain that will keep him out an estimated three weeks, Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: That's a break we suppose, since there were fears that Rome could require up to four-to-six weeks of rehab due to the injury.

News: Depending on the severity of the MCL sprain he suffered Friday night, Rome could require up to four to six weeks of rehab, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: There's a chance Rome could be sidelined for a significant amount of time, but owners will want to wait until the Canucks finish running tests on the gritty defenseman and release an official timetable before making a final roster decision. Move him to your bench for the time being.

Analysis: Rome isn't usually aggressive on the offensive end as he has only one points in 18 games and had all of 22 shots coming into Wednesday. But he is just happy to be in the Canucks' rotation after being a healthy scratch for most of the year. Rome is far more important to the Canucks than Fantasy owners.

Analysis: Rome is just organizational depth for the Canucks and can continue to be ignored in all formats.
News: Vancouver Canucks defenseman Sami Salo will miss three to five weeks with a suspected sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. Salo was hurt early in Sunday's 4-3 win over Dallas, which was also the Canucks' first game without top goal-scorer Daniel Sedin, who is out four to six weeks with a broken foot. "Our docs and therapist suspect it's an MCL and at first view they are thinking it's anywhere from three to five weeks," head coach Alain Vigneault said on Wednesday. Vigneault said a salary cap "situation will prevent them from recalling any extra defenseman," meaning journeyman Aaron Rome will replace Salo after watching the first five games from the press box.
Analysis: Rome, who has played only 26 games over five NHL seasons before leaving Columbus to sign a one-year deal with Vancouver this summer, was one of the Canucks' better blueliners throughout the exhibition schedule and was rewarded for his play by landing a roster spot. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to crack the lineup until now. Rome will hold down the fort until either Salo or Mathieu Schneider (shoulder) are healthy. He has minimal Fantasy appeal.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Canucks D Aaron Rome earned the seventh spot on defense ahead of proven veteran Brad Lukowich with a solid preseason. Unfortunately, he did not play in the opener against Calgary and was a healthy scratch.
Analysis: Rome, who has played only 26 games over five NHL seasons before leaving Columbus to sign a one-year deal with Vancouver this summer, was one of the Canucks' better blueliners throughout the exhibition schedule and was rewarded for his play. "That was the goal coming into camp -- to come in and do whatever they asked me to do and do it to the best of my ability," Rome said. While Rome is sticking around Vancouver, he could be sent to the minors once Mathieu Schneider is healthy. He shouldn't be owned in Fantasy until further notice.
News: The Canucks signed D Aaron Rome Wednesday hours after losing free agent Mattias Ohlund to the Lightning. Rome agreed to a one-year deal after spending parts of the past two seasons with the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Rome split the 2008-09 season between Columbus and Syracuse of the AHL. He had no goals and one assist in eight games with the Blue Jackets, and seven goals and 28 points in 48 games with the Crunch. Rome has some decent offensive skills, but the 2002 fourth-round pick has been a career minor leaguer. He is nothing more than roster depth and can be ignored in Fantasy until further notice.

Analysis: None of these players has any Fantasy value, so continue to ignore them in all formats.
News:The Sports Xchange reports one of the interesting plot lines of training camp for the Blue Jackets will be how the defensive pairs will settle. Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock has said he wants to pair Mike Commodore with Jan Hejda and Rostislav Klesla with Fedor Tyutin, but the third pair remains a mystery. In the mix for the two spots are Christian Backman, Kris Russell, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, Aaron Rome, Clay Wilson and Marc Methot.
Analysis: It almost seems logicial that Tollefsen will make the team out of camp because he is one of the Blue Jackets' top enforcers. He might not play every night, so that's where the other guys come into play. Regardless, Backman, Russell, Rome, Wilson and Methot are all expected to rotate in 2008-09, so they remain poor Fantasy options. Tollefsen, however, is a viable Fantasy option in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.
News: The Blue Jackets re-signed defense Aaron Rome to a one-year, two-way contract Thursday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Analysis: Rome had one goal and one assist in 17 games for Columbus last season. He also had 33 penalty minutes. Rome was acquired by Columbus last November in a trade with the Ducks. Rome is an enforcer by trade, but is nothing more than organizational depth. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

Analysis: Neither of these players has any Fantasy value at this time. Ignore them.
