Canucks' Burrows To Return Tuesday

News: Alex Burrows (upper body) will return to the lineup Tuesday against the Devils, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows missed the previous two games with an upper-body injury, but the Canucks signed off on his return to the lineup after he was able to participate in Monday's practice. With nine points in 16 games, the winger is already more than halfway to his point total from his disappointing 2013-14 season.

Canucks' Burrows Returns To Practice Monday

News: Alex Burrows (upper body) skated in practice on Monday, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows has missed the past two games due to the upper-body injury, and it is still unclear when he will return. In 16 appearances this season, the 33-year-old winger has four goals and five assists.

Canucks' Burrows Unlikely Sunday

News: Alex Burrows (upper body) will likely miss Sunday's game against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Alex Burrows missed Thursday's contest and Saturday's practice, so it would be no surprise if he misses it. Linden Vey will likely slot in on the second line while Bo Horvat should dress assuming Burrows can't go.

Canucks' Burrows Not Practicing

News: Alex Burrows (upper body) wasn't present for Saturday's practice.
Analysis: Linden Vey was taking his spot on the second line at practice, seemingly indicating Alex Burrows is far from a safe bet to play Sunday versus the Blackhawks. The forward was previously a surprising scratch from Thursday's game with the injury.

Canucks' Burrows To Miss Thursday's Game

News: Alex Burrows has an upper-body injury and will not play in Thursday's game vs. the Ducks, the team's official Twitter account reports.
Analysis: It remains unclear what Alex Burrows is dealing with, but we do know he woke up sore this morning and didn't take part in the morning skate. Linden Vey will take his place on the second line Thursday, while Bo Horvat will fill in for Vey on the fourth line. Burrows is having himself a nice bounce-back season thus far, collecting four goals and nine points in 16 games.

Canucks' Burrows Scores Third Of Season

News: Alex Burrows potted his third goal of the season in Sunday's win over the Sharks.
Analysis: Alex Burrows has been a decent fantasy play this season, netting eight points in 13 games, to go with a plus-5 rating. Skating on the second line with the surging Nick Bonino, Burrows should score 20 goals and land in the 50-point range. He's a great secondary scorer.

Canucks' Burrows Returns Thursday

News: Alex Burrows (suspension) will be back in the lineup Thursday against the Sharks, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows served a three-game ban for his check to the head of the Habs' Alexei Emelin last week, but with his return, prospect Bo Horvat will be forced to the press box. The veteran winger has rebounded well from a dismal 2013-14 campaign, scoring two goals and six points in 10 games prior to his suspension.

Canucks' Burrows Suspended For Three Games

News: The NHL has suspended Alex Burrows for three games following his hit to Alexei Emelin's head on Thursday, Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: There was no penalty called after the collision, but the NHL determined the hit was serious enough to warrant a three-game suspension. Alex Burrows will miss matchups with Edmonton, Nashville, and Colorado while serving his suspension. Tom Sestito, who has been a healthy scratch for most of the season, will likely see an increase in ice time during Burrows' absence, though likely not as a direct fill-in on the second line.

Further Discipline Coming For Canucks' Burrows

News: Alex Burrows is expected to face supplemental discipline for his illegal hit on the Habs' Alexei Emelin on Thursday, Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows appeared to check Emelin in the head after the defenseman attempted a shot. No penalty was called while Emelin remained down on the ice before leaving for the remainder of the period. Burrows is set to have a phone hearing with the league office Friday, and while he may be able to avoid a suspension, he could be fined for the hit.

Two Helpers For Canucks' Burrows

News: Alex Burrows snapped a three-game scoreless streak Thursday against the Blues by picking up a pair of assists. He also went plus-2 on the evening.
Analysis: Although it's been a bit of an uneven start to the year for Alex Burrows, he's still finding the scoresheet at a better rate than he has either of the last two seasons. If he can bounce back even as far as the high 40s in terms of points, his combination of offense and penalty minutes will once again play in a wide variety of formats.

Canucks' Burrows Strikes On Power Play In Win

News: Alex Burrows netted a power-play goal in Wednesday's season-opening win over the Flames.
Analysis: It took Alex Burrows 36 games to score his first goal last season, so this is a relief for fantasy owners. Burrows was also credited with two PIM and five hits in the win. It was a great start for the 33-year-old winger, who is currently skating on the second line alongside Nick Bonino and Chris Higgins.

Canucks' Burrows Has Strong Finish To Preseason

News: Alex Burrows finished the preseason with no goals and two assists in five games, to go with a plus-3 rating.
Analysis: Alex Burrows heated up towards the end of exhibition play, fitting in well on the second line with Chris Higgins and Nick Bonino. Burrows loses some fantasy value due to the fact he is no longer playing with the Sedin twins, but that doesn't mean he can't still produce 20 goals. Burrows will see time on the team's second power-play unit and should improve on the lackluster five goals and 15 points he achieved in 2013-14. He's nowhere near as bad as he was last season.

Orca's Burrows: Fantasy Value Continuing To Drop

News: The Canucks' signing of Radim Vrbata means that Alex Burrows will likely be permanently moved off the top line next season.
Analysis: His production has been dropping like a stone since his 35-goal, 67-point effort in 2009-10 and at age 33, he's not likely to realize any improvements at this point. His value at your draft this fall will be linked to the size of your league. Shallow leaguers need not apply.

Canucks' Burrows Fails To Make Impact At Worlds

News: Alex Burrows failed to make an impact with Team Canada at the 2014 World Championships, recording only one assist in six games.
Analysis: After missing two preliminary games with a leg injury, Alex Burrows was able to return in time to see his team fall to Finland in the quarterfinals. Burrows managed only four shots on goal all tournament, averaging only 9:49 of ice time per game. It was a rough outing for the 33-year-old, something he didn't need after a very disappointing season in the NHL with the Canucks.

Canucks' Burrows Suffers Leg Injury At Worlds

News: Alex Burrows suffered a right leg injury during the first period of Team Canada's 6-1 win over Italy at the World Championships on Friday, the Vancouver Sun reports. Burrows was helped off the ice and did not return to the game.
Analysis: The injury was a result of a knee-on-knee hit from Italy's Joachim Ramoser with 56 seconds left in the first period. Alex Burrows was on the ice and writhing in pain after the collision, while Ramoser was given a five-minute major penalty for kneeing and an automatic game misconduct. If Burrows feels okay, it's possible he could play Sunday against Sweden in Canada's biggest game of the preliminary round. Through five games at the Worlds, Burrows has recorded one assist, while averaging 10:57 of ice time. He has recorded the fewest amount of shots (3) among forwards on the team, and also sports a team-worst minus-1 rating.

Canucks' Burrows Represents Team Canada

News: Alex Burrows -- who finished the season with 15 points in 49 games -- will be representing Team Canada at the 2014 World Championships.
Analysis: Alex Burrows skated with Nathan MacKinnon and Kyle Turris in Canada's first exhibition game -- a 4-0 win over Switzerland on Tuesday. It took 36 games for Burrows to score a goal with the Canucks this season, one of the reasons the team's offensive numbers were among the worst in the NHL. Burrows finished the season with a career-low minus-9 rating and a disastrous 4.8 shooting percentage. He will look for a strong performance at the World Championships to carryover to the upcoming NHL season.

Canucks' Burrows Returns

News: Alex Burrows (thumb) returned to action in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Wild.
Analysis: The winger didn't find the score sheet, but did skate 14:09 TOI in 22 shifts, which is pretty normal for him, so he should be considered healthy moving forward.

Canucks' Burrows Will Play Wednesday

News: Alex Burrows (thumb) will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Wild.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was considered doubtful for the team's two-game road trip, but apparently he's feeling well enough to suit up for Wednesday's contest. After a slow start to the season, the winger has heated up in his last few appearances, racking up five goals and three assists in five games before getting hurt.

Canucks' Burrows Now Will Travel With Team

News: Updating a previous report, Alex Burrows (thumb) will travel with the Canucks to Minnesota for Wednesday's game, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports. However, Burrows still seems unlikely to play in either of the Canucks' two road games.
Analysis: Alex Burrows missed Tuesday's practice due to the injury, and will join the team in Minnesota only to be reevaluated. If he receives a positive report from team doctors, he could be available by the weekend.

Canucks' Burrows Out For Road Trip

News: Coach John Tortorella said Tuesday that Alex Burrows (thumb) would not join the team for its two-game road trip that begins Wednesday in Minnesota.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was seen at the Canucks' practice facility Tuesday afternoon with a splint on his injured thumb. Tortorella relayed that while the forward won't play in the next two games, he's still considered day-to-day and will be evaluated while the team is on the road. It's possible that he could rejoin the lineup for the start of the Canucks' homestand Saturday against the Ducks.

Canucks' Burrows (Hand) Out Sunday

News: Alex Burrows (hand) will not play in Sunday's contest against the Sabres.
Analysis: Alex Burrows is considered day-to-day at this point and will likely return to the lineup soon. The return of Daniel Sedin makes losing Burrows a little less impactful but the Canucks want him in the lineup as soon as he is available.

Canucks' Burrows Likely Out Sunday

News: Alex Burrows appears unlikely to play Sunday against the Sabres, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Coach John Tortorella didn't explicitly say that Alex Burrows wouldn't play Sunday, but his acknowledgement that the forward is still "day-to-day" seemingly suggests as much. The loss of Burrows hurts while he's enjoying his best stretch of hockey of the season, but the expected return of Daniel Sedin from injured reserve Sunday softens the blow at least a little bit.

Canucks' Burrows Leaves Early Wednesday

News: Alex Burrows appeared to suffer a left hand injury in Wednesday's win over the Predators, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: The injury apparently occurred while Nicklas Jensen scored the game-winning goal at the 14-minute mark in the third period, as Alex Burrows took a slash to the hand from the Preds' Shea Weber as the puck went through the net. The injury comes at a disappointing time for Burrows with the winger finally breaking through for five goals and three assists over his last eight games. With Ryan Kesler, Daniel Sedin and Mike Santorelli already out of commission, the Canucks can ill afford another injury to one of their top forwards.

Canucks' Burrows Tallies Three Points

News: Alex Burrows scored a power-play goal and had two assists against the Panthers on Sunday. He also had two penalty minutes and was a plus-2.
Analysis: Alex Burrows has had a disappointing season, but he has turned it around recently. He has six points in his last four games, including all three of the goals he has scored this season.
