Canucks' Burrows Dealing With Rib Injury

News: Alex Burrows (rib) was not present for practice Wednesday.
Analysis: Per Dan Murphy of Sportsnet, Alex Burrows, who landed in a Calgary hospital after suffering a broken rib Tuesday, has yet to return to Vancouver, where the Canucks play on Thursday, so it appears safe to rule Burrows out for Game 5 of the team's opening round playoff series that evening.

Canucks' Burrows Sidelined For Rest Of Series

News: Alex Burrows (rib) will not be available for the remainder of the Canucks' current playoff series against the Flames.
Analysis: On the plus side, coach Willie Desjardins relayed Wednesday that Alex Burrows' injury is "nothing serious," which suggests that there's some chance that the forward -- who remains in Calgary at this time -- could potentially return to postseason action in the event that the Canucks are able to rally from a 3-1 series deficit to advance to the second-round of the playoffs.

Canucks' Burrows Released From Hospital

News: Alex Burrows (rib) was scheduled to be released from the hospital Tuesday night, Irfaan Gaffar of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was sent off the ice on a stretcher following Tuesday's morning skate for what was later reported to be a broken rib. The injury kept him out of Game 4 against the Flames and puts his availability in serious question for the remainder of the series. With Burrows unavailable, Brandon McMillan entered the lineup Tuesday in his stead.

Canucks' Burrows Sustains Upper-Body Injury

News: The Canucks announced that Alex Burrows, who sustained an upper-body injury at practice Tuesday, was subsequently taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
Analysis: While the nature of Alex Burrows' injury has yet to be clarified, the team's statement indicating that he was taken to the hospital as a precaution offers hope that the forward avoided a serious injury. The report confirms that Burrows will not play Tuesday night against the Flames.

Canucks' Burrows Diagnosed With Broken Rib

News: Alex Burrows was diagnosed with a broken rib after departing Tuesday's morning skate, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows' removal from practice and subsequent hospitalization seemed to something highly serious was in play, but it appears the Canucks sent the ambulance just for precautionary reasons. Nonetheless, the rib injury will still prevent Burrows from suiting up Tuesday's Game 4, and quite possibly, the remainder of the series and beyond. With the winger unavailable, Sven Baertschi was recalled from AHL Utica on Tuesday and will enter the lineup for his postseason debut.

Canucks' Burrows Leaves Practice In Ambulance

News: Alex Burrows (undisclosed) left Tuesday's morning skate in an ambulance, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: It was initially reported that Alex Burrows merely suffered a minor injury, but the need for a stretcher and ambulance hints strongly at something more serious. The Canucks are expected to make a statement shortly.

Canucks' Burrows Should Be Fine For Game 4

News: Alex Burrows, who suffered an undisclosed injury during morning skate, is expected to be fine for Tuesday's Game 4 against the Flames, TSN 1040 AM's Matthew Sekeres reports.
Analysis: The Canucks recalled Sven Baertschi from AHL Utica, hinting at some kind of injury concern for the team. While Alex Burrows is apparently the banged-up player, he's still on track to play in Tuesday's game. Baertschi is expected to be a healthy scratch.

Canucks' Burrows To Avoid Suspension

News: Alex Burrows' instigator penalty from Sunday's Game 3 was rescinded and he will not be suspended for Tuesday's Game 4 against the Flames.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was charged with the penalty with less than two minutes remaining in the game, but the Department of Player Safety determined there wasn't any "retaliatory" nature in the incident. Expect him to see his usual minutes on the top line with the Sedin twins going forward.

Canucks' Burrows Racks Up 21 PIM In Game 3 Loss

News: Alex Burrows collected 21 PIM in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Flames.
Analysis: This Flames and Canucks series has gotten vicious and Alex Burrows was right in the middle of it Sunday. Burrows did receive an instigator in the last five minutes, which means a one-game suspension, but that can be rescinded -- which has already happened once in this series. While the 34-year-old was mixing it up physically in the loss, he was also a dangerous offensive threat, firing six shots on goal. It's possible he gets suspended, which would be a significant loss for the Canucks, who are now trailing Calgary 2-1 in their first round-series.

Canucks' Burrows Assists Twice In Win

News: Alex Burrows collected two assists in Friday's Game 2 win over the Flames.
Analysis: Alex Burrows had been held off the score sheet since his two-goal effort back on April 4, spanning four games. Both of his assists came on the game's first two goals, with the latter of the two helpers coming on the power play.

Two Goals For Canucks' Burrows

News: Alex Burrows potted a pair of goals in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Alex Burrows now has four goals in his last four games but still just has 33 points in 67 games this season. He's been finding the back of the net at just the right time for Vancouver, who continues to chug along comfortably in the West's playoff race.

Canucks' Burrows Stuffs Stat Sheet In Win

News: Alex Burrows racked up a shorthanded goal, a power-play assist and 15 PIM in Tuesday's shootout win over Nashville.
Analysis: The veteran's five-minute major for interference (and game misconduct) at the end of the third period set the Predators up with a great chance to win it, but fortunately for Alex Burrows, Nashville whiffed on the extended man-advantage opportunity. The gritty winger certainly isn't the offensive force he once was, but he's got a decent skill-and-grit combo, with 31 points and 64 PIM in 65 games. He's also scored goals in consecutive games.

Canucks' Burrows Confirmed To Play Tuesday

News: Coach Willie Desjardins confirmed that Alex Burrows (lower body) will be back in the lineup Tuesday against the Flyers, Irfaan Gaffar of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: The lower-body ailment prevented Alex Burrows from being an option for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, but he seems to be good to go after taking to the ice during Monday's practice. He skated alongside Brad Richardson and Chris Higgins at Tuesday's morning session.

Canucks' Burrows Scores Twice In 17 Seconds

News: Alex Burrows scored a pair of third-period goals just 17 seconds apart Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: An impressive effort from the veteran winger, who snapped a five-game scoreless skid. Nonetheless, at this stage of his career, Alex Burrows is a modest contributor in terms of both points and PIM, restricting his fantasy value to deep leagues.

Canucks' Burrows Expected Back Tuesday

News: Alex Burrows (undisclosed) is expected to return for Tuesday's game against the Flyers.
Analysis: Alex Burrows said as much Monday, and while he isn't officially locked into the lineup, there's no reason to think he won't play. He only missed one game.

Canucks' Burrows Set To Return

News: Alex Burrows (undisclosed) indicated Monday that he will be ready to play Tuesday against the Flyers.
Analysis: Alex Burrows, who last suited up on March 12, has not recorded a point in his last five games. Overall though, he has notched 12 goals and 25 points in 56 games for the Canucks to date.

Canucks' Burrows Set To Sit Out Saturday

News: Alex Burrows (undisclosed) isn't expected to play Saturday against the Maple Leafs, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: The Canucks will be getting a number of players back from injury Saturday, so Alex Burrows' absence shouldn't be missed too much. It remains unclear what exactly is ailing him, but he should be viewed as day-to-day until the Canucks provide word otherwise.

Canucks' Burrows Questionable For Saturday

News: Alex Burrows (undisclosed) is considered questionable for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows wasn't present at Friday's practice, with coach Willie Desjardins suggesting the forward was receiving "more of a maintenance day." While that would usually indicate Burrows isn't dealing with an injury, Desjardins was somewhat evasive when asked if Burrows would play Saturday. The Canucks are expected to get two of their injured forwards in Brad Richardson and Chris Higgins back in the lineup against the Maple Leafs, so it wouldn't be surprising if Burrows sat out to further recuperate. It's possible he still might be hurting from the groin injury he returned from last week.

Canucks' Burrows Slated To Play Thursday

News: Alex Burrows (groin) was a full participant at the Canucks' morning skate and looks in line to play Thursday against the Coyotes, Jeff Paterson of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows resumed skating with the team Monday after first suffering the groin injury about two weeks ago. He skated as a member of the Canucks' second line and saw duty on the top power-play unit during Thursday's morning skate, a likely indicator that the team considers him fit to play. The winger has been about a half-point-per-game contributor when he's been healthy enough to suit up this season, notching 12 goals and 13 assists in 52 games.

Canucks' Burrows Gets In Brief Skate

News: Alex Burrows (groin) was briefly on the ice prior to Monday's practice, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins indicated Monday that Alex Burrows is getting closer to playing, but until the forward resumes practicing in full with the team, his exact date return date will remain clouded.

Canucks' Burrows Set To Miss Another

News: Alex Burrows (lower body) is expected to miss Thursday's game against the Sabres, Jeff Paterson of TSN Radio 1040 reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows hasn't been spotted on the ice since apparently suffering the injury during last Thursday's game against the Rangers. He'll sit out a fourth straight game with the ailment, which could eventually force him to injured reserve.

Canucks' Burrows (Lower Body) Won't Play Sunday

News: Alex Burrows (lower body) won't play Sunday against the Islanders.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was scratched late before Friday's contest due to the lower-body injury, and it will cost him Sunday's game as well. The winger has tallied just 25 points in 52 games with season, and his absence will likely draw Zack Kassian into the lineup again Sunday.

Canucks' Burrows Out Friday

News: Alex Burrows (lower body) won't play Friday against the Devils.
Analysis: At this point in time it isn't clear when Alex Burrows sustained the lower body injury, but it's safe to assume it happened at some point in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Rangers. The severity of the injury is currently unknown. The team should release more information regarding Burrows' status in the coming days, but for now, he should be considered day-to-day.

Canucks' Burrows Scratched Friday

News: Alex Burrows will be scratched Friday against the Devils.
Analysis: Zack Kassian will enter the Canucks' lineup in Alex Burrows' place. It seems likely Burrows, who has been thriving on Vancouvers' top line with the Sedin twins, is being scratched due to injury, and the team should release more information regarding Burrows' status in the near future.

Canucks' Burrows Thriving Back With Sedin Twins

News: Alex Burrows is thriving on the top line with the Sedin twins, contributing two goals, four points and 12 shots on goal in his last five games.
Analysis: Radim Vrbata, who is on a seven-game point streak, has been dropped to the second line, meaning Alex Burrows has been reunited with his old linemates on the top line. Burrows is also playing on the top power-play unit, so he's worth checking out in some deeper leagues. Knowing the way he's clicked with the twins in the past, if Burrows stays on the top line, he could be an underrated waiver wire add down the stretch.
