Orca's Burrows: Fantasy Value Continuing To Drop

News: The Canucks' signing of Radim Vrbata means that Alex Burrows will likely be permanently moved off the top line next season.
Analysis: His production has been dropping like a stone since his 35-goal, 67-point effort in 2009-10 and at age 33, he's not likely to realize any improvements at this point. His value at your draft this fall will be linked to the size of your league. Shallow leaguers need not apply.

Canucks' Burrows Fails To Make Impact At Worlds

News: Alex Burrows failed to make an impact with Team Canada at the 2014 World Championships, recording only one assist in six games.
Analysis: After missing two preliminary games with a leg injury, Alex Burrows was able to return in time to see his team fall to Finland in the quarterfinals. Burrows managed only four shots on goal all tournament, averaging only 9:49 of ice time per game. It was a rough outing for the 33-year-old, something he didn't need after a very disappointing season in the NHL with the Canucks.

Canucks' Burrows Suffers Leg Injury At Worlds

News: Alex Burrows suffered a right leg injury during the first period of Team Canada's 6-1 win over Italy at the World Championships on Friday, the Vancouver Sun reports. Burrows was helped off the ice and did not return to the game.
Analysis: The injury was a result of a knee-on-knee hit from Italy's Joachim Ramoser with 56 seconds left in the first period. Alex Burrows was on the ice and writhing in pain after the collision, while Ramoser was given a five-minute major penalty for kneeing and an automatic game misconduct. If Burrows feels okay, it's possible he could play Sunday against Sweden in Canada's biggest game of the preliminary round. Through five games at the Worlds, Burrows has recorded one assist, while averaging 10:57 of ice time. He has recorded the fewest amount of shots (3) among forwards on the team, and also sports a team-worst minus-1 rating.

Canucks' Burrows Represents Team Canada

News: Alex Burrows -- who finished the season with 15 points in 49 games -- will be representing Team Canada at the 2014 World Championships.
Analysis: Alex Burrows skated with Nathan MacKinnon and Kyle Turris in Canada's first exhibition game -- a 4-0 win over Switzerland on Tuesday. It took 36 games for Burrows to score a goal with the Canucks this season, one of the reasons the team's offensive numbers were among the worst in the NHL. Burrows finished the season with a career-low minus-9 rating and a disastrous 4.8 shooting percentage. He will look for a strong performance at the World Championships to carryover to the upcoming NHL season.

Canucks' Burrows Returns

News: Alex Burrows (thumb) returned to action in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Wild.
Analysis: The winger didn't find the score sheet, but did skate 14:09 TOI in 22 shifts, which is pretty normal for him, so he should be considered healthy moving forward.

Canucks' Burrows Will Play Wednesday

News: Alex Burrows (thumb) will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Wild.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was considered doubtful for the team's two-game road trip, but apparently he's feeling well enough to suit up for Wednesday's contest. After a slow start to the season, the winger has heated up in his last few appearances, racking up five goals and three assists in five games before getting hurt.

Canucks' Burrows Now Will Travel With Team

News: Updating a previous report, Alex Burrows (thumb) will travel with the Canucks to Minnesota for Wednesday's game, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports. However, Burrows still seems unlikely to play in either of the Canucks' two road games.
Analysis: Alex Burrows missed Tuesday's practice due to the injury, and will join the team in Minnesota only to be reevaluated. If he receives a positive report from team doctors, he could be available by the weekend.

Canucks' Burrows Out For Road Trip

News: Coach John Tortorella said Tuesday that Alex Burrows (thumb) would not join the team for its two-game road trip that begins Wednesday in Minnesota.
Analysis: Alex Burrows was seen at the Canucks' practice facility Tuesday afternoon with a splint on his injured thumb. Tortorella relayed that while the forward won't play in the next two games, he's still considered day-to-day and will be evaluated while the team is on the road. It's possible that he could rejoin the lineup for the start of the Canucks' homestand Saturday against the Ducks.

Canucks' Burrows (Hand) Out Sunday

News: Alex Burrows (hand) will not play in Sunday's contest against the Sabres.
Analysis: Alex Burrows is considered day-to-day at this point and will likely return to the lineup soon. The return of Daniel Sedin makes losing Burrows a little less impactful but the Canucks want him in the lineup as soon as he is available.

Canucks' Burrows Likely Out Sunday

News: Alex Burrows appears unlikely to play Sunday against the Sabres, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Coach John Tortorella didn't explicitly say that Alex Burrows wouldn't play Sunday, but his acknowledgement that the forward is still "day-to-day" seemingly suggests as much. The loss of Burrows hurts while he's enjoying his best stretch of hockey of the season, but the expected return of Daniel Sedin from injured reserve Sunday softens the blow at least a little bit.

Canucks' Burrows Leaves Early Wednesday

News: Alex Burrows appeared to suffer a left hand injury in Wednesday's win over the Predators, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: The injury apparently occurred while Nicklas Jensen scored the game-winning goal at the 14-minute mark in the third period, as Alex Burrows took a slash to the hand from the Preds' Shea Weber as the puck went through the net. The injury comes at a disappointing time for Burrows with the winger finally breaking through for five goals and three assists over his last eight games. With Ryan Kesler, Daniel Sedin and Mike Santorelli already out of commission, the Canucks can ill afford another injury to one of their top forwards.

Canucks' Burrows Notches Three Points

News: Alex Burrows scored two goals, including a power-play tally, and had an assist against the Lightning on Monday.
Analysis: That's back-to-back games with three points for Alex Burrows, and he has nine points in his last five games as well.

Canucks' Burrows Tallies Three Points

News: Alex Burrows scored a power-play goal and had two assists against the Panthers on Sunday. He also had two penalty minutes and was a plus-2.
Analysis: Alex Burrows has had a disappointing season, but he has turned it around recently. He has six points in his last four games, including all three of the goals he has scored this season.

Canucks' Burrows Breaks Goalless Streak

News: Alex Burrows finally broke through for not one, but two goals in Wednesday's shootout win over the Jets.
Analysis: With no goals, six assists and a minus-15 rating in 35 games, Alex Burrows had been one of the bigger fantasy busts entering Wednesday's contest, but he made his owners forget about those shortcomings for at least one day. Perhaps the performance will spark Burrows the rest of the way now that he's far enough removed from his hand injury, but a sudden return to last season's half-point-per-game average is probably still too much to ask.

Canucks' Burrows Still Hasn't Scored This Season

News: Alex Burrows still hasn't scored a goal in 33 games this season.
Analysis: This is just ridiculous, especially considering the fact Burrrows has scored 25 goals or more in his last four full seasons. He only has five points in 33 games this season, to go with a brutal minus-14 rating. Avoid Alex Burrows right now, as the Canucks are struggling to score, and have lost 11 of their last 12 games.

Canucks' Burrows Plays Big Minutes Against Blues

News: Alex Burrows (hand) logged 18:36 of ice time in Wednesday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: There was some question whether Alex Burrows would play, as he has been nursing a sore hand that he sustained in the Canucks' final game before the Olympic break. Burrows played alongside the Sedin twins on Wednesday, failing to register a point. He's yet to score a goal in 29 games this season, meaning it's best to stay away from him until he starts producing.

Canucks' Burrows Returns To Practice

News: Alex Burrows (hand) returned to practice Tuesday, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows continues to nurse a sore hand that he sustained in the Canucks' final game before the Olympic break, but is presence at practice Tuesday suggests he could be ready to go when the team takes the ice Wednesday against the Blues. Even if that's the case, with just five points and a minus-12 rating in 28 games, Burrows can't be counted upon to produce useful numbers for fantasy players.

Canucks' Burrows Could Skate Tuesday

News: Alex Burrows (hand) might skate during Tuesday's practice.
Analysis: The winger has been injured all season, and still has yet to notch his first goal. With a minus-12 rating, it's probably a good idea to avoid him in fantasy leagues until he can prove he's fully healthy again.

Canucks' Burrows Dealing With Sprained Hand

News: Alex Burrows suffered a sprained hand in the Canucks' final game before the Olympic break, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows has dealt with injuries all season and this is the latest variety. He also has been held without a goal all season. He may be ready immediately following the break or he may need a short time to be ready.

Goalless Streak Hits 27 Games For Canucks' Burrows

News: Alex Burrows is without a goal in his 27 games this season.
Analysis: A lower-body injury and broken jaw have kept Alex Burrows off the ice for large chunks of time, but to be without a goal at this point in the season is embarrassing for a forward of Burrows' caliber. He managed to produce 13 goals in the strike-shortened 2012-13 campaign, and had 25 or more goals in each of his four full seasons before that. Burrows qualifies as one of the larger disappointments in fantasy circles thus far.

Canucks' Burrows Finally On Scoresheet

News: Alex Burrows picked up a power-play assist in Friday's loss to the Jets. It was his first point since returning from a jaw injury on Jan.18.
Analysis: This was greatly needed for Alex Burrows, as he had gone 14 straight games without registering a point, dating back to before his injury. Burrows also finished the night with two PIM and four hits. If the Canucks hope to make the playoffs, Burrows will need to be a big part of the team's offensive attack. Hopefully this game is a sign of things to come for the 32-year-old.

Canucks' Burrows Pointless Since Return

News: Alex Burrows has yet to register a point in six games since returning from a jaw injury.
Analysis: It's hard to believe that Alex Burrows, who has scored 20 goals or more in his last four full-seasons, is still yet to find twine this year. Through 23 games, Burrows only has three assists to go with a minus-7 rating. He is getting top-six minutes and is averaging 2:49 of power-play time per game, meaning he will have to come around at some point. He is too good to stay quiet for much longer.

Canucks' Burrows Logs 20:46 In Return On Saturday

News: Alex Burrows returned to the lineup on Saturday, logging 20:46 of ice time in a shootout win over Calgary.
Analysis: Though he didn't register a point, Alex Burrows dished out three hits and racked up four PIM. Burrows returned to his spot on the top line with the Sedin twins, so the points are likely come sooner or later. He had missed the past 20 games with a broken jaw, meaning fantasy owners should lower their expectations for instant production. Burrows has struggled when healthy this season, collecting only three assists in 18 games.

Canucks' Burrows To Play Saturday

News: Alex Burrows (jaw) will return to the lineup Saturday vs. the Flames, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: Alex Burrows finally received the medical clearance he needed following a six-week absence due to jaw surgery. He'll look to bolster a Canucks attack that has scored a total of two goals over its last three games.

Canucks' Burrows Will Miss Next Four Games

News: Alex Burrows (jaw) won't be medically cleared to play until next Saturday against the Flames, meaning he will miss the next four games, the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: There was some speculation Alex Burrows would return Friday against the Blues, but that plan has gone out the door. Instead, a medical specialist told Burrows that he would have to wait the full six weeks before returning. When he does return Jan.18 against Calgary, Burrows will wear a jaw protector.
