Rangers' Frolov Out For Season

News: Frolov will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL, according to a team press release. He's scheduled to undergo surgery sometime in the near future.
Analysis: Ouch. Frolov hurt his leg in the third period of Saturday's game against the Blues. His season will end even worse than the poor way it went prior to the injury, as he'll finish his first year as a Ranger with a disappointing 16 points in 43 games.

Rangers' Frolov Hurts Leg

News: Frolov hurt his leg in the third period of Saturday's game against the Blues, the Daily News reports.
Analysis: The Rangers called up Kris Newbury on Sunday, perhaps a sign that Frolov will not be able to play Tuesday against the Canadiens.

Frolov Sees Little Ice in Rangers Loss

News: Frolov played just 9:33 in the Rangers' 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Monday and has just one point in the last nine games.
Analysis: Frolov appears to be in the doghouse of John Tortorella, certainly not a desirable place for any skater. Frolov has no points in the last four games and playing 9:33 for a player of his skill level won't get him many points. Monitor him closely, however, as he had seen time with Marian Gaborik earlier this month.

Rangers' Frolov Getting Top Line Time

News: Frolov will continue to skate on the Rangers' top line with Marian Gaborik, according to Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record.
Analysis: Frolov has gotten off to a slow start with his new team, with 10 points in 18 games, but that four-pointer was a nice one in Sunday's win and he's certainly worth a buy-low pickup if he sticks with the always productive Gaborik.

Frolov Continues Scoring Touch in Rangers' Win

News: Frolov scored two goals in Sunday's 8-2 win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Frolov scored twice Sunday, bringing his season total to four goals. The newcomer has been relatively quiet this season, so to see him put a couple in the net is something nice to see.

Rangers' Frolov Scores in Victory

News: Frolov scored his scored second goal of the year in the first period of New York's 3-2 win over Boston on Saturday night.
Analysis: Frolov has been hot as of late, scoring two goals in the Rangers' last three games. With linemate Marian Gaborik (shoulder) injured, Frolov is expected to step in and provide some offense.

Frolov headed to the Big Apple

News: The Rangers added offensive punch by agreeing to terms Tuesday with longtime Los Angeles Kings forward Alexander Frolov, who should provide a potent complement to Marian Gaborik on New York's top line. "Alex is a highly skilled player who we feel will play a key role in improving our offense and play in all situations," Rangers general manager Glen Sather said in a statement. "He is strong competitor and has the ability to play either wing position."
Analysis: The 28-year-old winger, who spent his first seven NHL seasons with Los Angeles, has scored over 20 goals five times -- including two 30-goal seasons -- but is coming off a disappointing one in which he had only 19 goals and 32 assists in 81 games. Frolov has 24 career multigoal games, including three NHL hat tricks. In 536 regular-season NHL games, Frolov -- who can play on either wing -- has 168 goals and 381 points. He is expected to play alongside Gaborik, the Rangers' top offensive threat, who had 42 goals and 86 points in his first season with New York. The Rangers are banking on Frolov returning to the form he showed two seasons ago when he led the Kings with 32 goals -- 12 on the power play -- and was second on the club with 59 points. The move to New York also gets Frolov out of coach Terry Murray's doghouse and a defensive system and into John Tortorella's offensive system. Frolov could regain a lot of his lost Fantasy appeal. Look to him in the middle rounds on Draft Day for a bounce-back season.

Frolov stays hot with four-point night

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov scored and added a hat trick of assists in Monday's win over the Blue Jackets. He now has eight points in his last four games.
Analysis: It looks like Frolov is going to end his season just like he started it -- on fire. Get him active in more than 56 percent of leagues.

Frolov shows no rust after break

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov scored and added two assists in Tuesday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Frolov is now up to 40 points on the season, which makes it six straight campaigns he's reached that mark. He's been playing a little better lately after a brutal January, but isn't quite worth activating in all leagues just yet. Keep an eye on his numbers the rest of this week.

Frolov has five points in last three

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov assisted in Monday's loss to the Ducks, giving him five points (1G, 4A) in his last three games.
Analysis: Frolov pretty much vanished after his stellar October (12 points in 13 games), and is only up to 37 points on the season. He has been the subject of trade rumors lately and could find himself on a new team in March. He remains just a starting option in deeper leagues until he can prove to be more consistent.

Frolov has fourth multi-assist game

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov tallied a pair of assists and finished at even on Thursday against the Ducks. It was his fourth multi-assist game of the season.
Analysis: Everyone is eager to see Frolov's fate as the trade deadline approaches. It all but seems Los Angeles will try to deal the slumping Russian forward. That could actually help his Fantasy appeal a ton since he hasn't meshed well with coach Terry Murray since last season. Frolov is a low-end Fantasy start until further notice.

Frolov not enjoying 2010 so far

News: After finishing 2009 with a three-point game on New Year's Eve, it looked like Kings RW Alexander Frolov might be in for a good start to 2010. Unfortunately, he has no goals and just three assists in 10 January games.
Analysis: Frolov has 30 points in 50 games this season, but 12 of those points came in the first 13 contests. Hopefully he can turn things around soon, but for now he should be benched in anything smaller than a 12-team league.

Frolov gets three points in win

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov scored twice and also assisted in Thursday's win over the Wild.
Analysis: Frolov matched his point total from the previous 10 games on Thursday, so that should tell you he didn't exactly finish 2009 with a flourish. Hopefully he can re-find the scoring touch he showed in October (12 points in 13 games) and be worth using in the majority of leagues again.

Frolov chips in eighth goal

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov scored a goal during Saturday's game against the Stars. Frolov tied it at 4:12 of the second period, finishing a 2-on-1 rush with Justin Williams. It was his eighth goal and second in five games.
Analysis: Frolov has spent a lot of time the last few weeks on the Kings' top line in place of the injured Ryan Smyth. However, his offensive production has been erratic and he definitely hasn't filled the shoes of Smyth, who was threatening as a point-per-game player. It seems Frolov needs a fresh start and out of Los Angeles, but as long as he is with the Kings, he remains more of a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy forward.

Frolov can't get offense going

News: The Sports Xchange reports Kings LW Alexander Frolov returned to the top line, in place of LW Teddy Purcell, on Saturday against the Blackhawks but it didn't do much to get the offense going. The Kings' top line has now scored only one goal in five games without injured LW Ryan Smyth (upper body). That goal came from Frolov, who didn't get on the score sheet Saturday. Frolov had three shots on goal in 20:11 of ice time.
Analysis: Frolov has had a golden opportunity here in the last few weeks since Smyth went down, but he has failed to make the most of it. Frolov is having another disappointing season by his standards. He will be a free agent in the offseason and there are rumors swirling he is on the trade block. A fresh start would be great for Frolov, but it is not guarantee. Frolov is still a viable Fantasy start despite his recent struggles.

Frolov scores on top line

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov, who has been bumped up to the team's top line because of the injury to Ryan Smuth, scored a goal on Saturday in a loss to the Flames. His goal came four minutes in the the second period on a slap shot with assists from Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty.
Analysis: Forlov now has 15 total points on the season with four goals and 11 assists. He has been disappointing in the first part of the season, but this promotion to the top line could turn his fortunes around. Frolov has the potential to be a point-per-game player, so get him active in most formats for Fantasy Week 8 (Nov. 23-29}.

Injury bumps Frolov to top line

News: Left wing Ryan Smyth could be out of the Los Angeles Kings' lineup for a month because of an upper body injury. The Kings aren't disclosing the nature of Smyth's injury. He didn't return after the second period of a game at Florida on Monday. Alexander Frolov is expected to take Smyth's spot at left wing on the top line for the Kings, who hosted Philadelphia on Wednesday night.
Analysis: This promotion could be what Frolov needs to snap him out of his funk. He has no goals in his last nine games and has just four points in November. Playing with Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams has been great for Smyth, so Frolov has a real good chance to post some nice numbers. Keep tabs on his progress in Fantasy.

Frolov has 2nd multi-assist night

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov tallied two assists and finished at plus-1 during Wednesday's game against the Hurricanes. It was Frolov's second multi-assist game. He had just one point in his previous five outings.
Analysis: Frolov definitely seems back to his former self after a tough first season under Terry Murray in 2008-09. There are rumors that Frolov won't finish the season with the Kings, but as long as he threatens as a point-per-game player, he deserves to start in Fantasy.

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov scored in Wednesday's loss to the Sharks. He now has seven points in his last four games.

News: Kings RW Alexander Frolov scored twice and added an assist in Sunday's win over the Blue Jackets. Frolov now has six points in his last three games and 11 on the season.
Analysis: After a bit of a slow start, Frolov is now getting involved in the Kings offense and is certainly worth a look in all Fantasy formats for Week 4 (Oct. 26-Nov. 1).

Frolov punished with healthy scratch

News: TSN reports that Kings Terry Murray made RW Alexander Frolov a healthy scratch Monday against the Stars.
Analysis: Frolov has five points in eight games this season, but he apparently just hasn't played well enough for Murray's liking. Fantasy owners shouldn't worry too much about this move, as the Kings play four times in Fantasy Week 3 (Oct. 19-25). Leave Frolov in your lineup for the scoring period as he's highly unlikely to miss more than one game.

Expectations are high for Frolov

News: The Sports Xchange reports by all accounts, Alexander Frolov will be one of the most prominent Kings to watch this season. Frolov scored a power-play goal in the Kings' season-opening 6-3 loss to Phoenix on Saturday night, and much is expected from the Russian forward, who led the Kings with 32 goals last season. Frolov is expected to once again be a team leader in goals, and he will also be playing on the Kings' "shutdown" third line with center Michal Handzus and right wing Wayne Simmonds, with major defensive responsibilities.
Analysis: Expect Frolov's name to surface often in trade rumors -- he is due to be an unrestricted free agent next summer. That's a lot for one player to handle, but coach Terry Murray said his expectations for Frolov are high. "We had this meeting ... Fro and I, as far as roles and expectations," coach Terry Murray said. "I look at his numbers that he put up last year, and I certainly expect him to get to that (level) again. Playing on the line with Handzus and Simmonds, I think, is a real good thing for him. It's a lot of ice time. They're going to match up against the better lines of the opposition. If you check the right way, you're going to have the puck on your stick a lot. You're going to get attacks going and offensive opportunities." A lot of folks don't realize that Murray's third line is like his second scoring line since they are on the ice as much as the first line. Frolov is going to get his scoring chances this season, whether they are all with the Kings or not, so treat him as a high-end Fantasy forward.

Kings have good mix of wingers

News: The Sports Xchange reports heading into training camp, the Kings have a fairly clear-cut group of six top forwards, but it remains to be seen which roles the wingers will fill. The Kings have two left wingers, Alexander Frolov and Ryan Smyth, and two right wingers, Dustin Brown and Justin Williams, all of whom have the potential to score 30 goals per season. It could come down to a matter of fit. Frolov and Williams are more natural scorers, while Smyth and Brown are typically known for their ability to play hard in front of the net.
Analysis: The Kings have done a nice job transforming their roster in the last year. Frolov and Brown were around for most of the 2008-09 season, but since the trade deadline in March, Williams and Smyth have joined the mix. Williams only got a brief stint with L.A. late in the season as he battled injury, but they are still very excited about his potential heading into 2009-10. As for Smyth, he was a key offseason acquisition from Colorado and is another elite scorer in the mix. Still, we are a little cautious since head coach Terry Murray definitely preaches more of a defensive approach. Frolov is probably the best Fantasy flier among the four, followed by Smyth, Brown and Williams.

Frolov's name mentioned in trade rumors

News: The Sports Xchange reports LW Alexander Frolov is due to become an unrestricted free agent next summer, and his name has become a popular inclusion in trade rumors. Most recently in the speculation that the Kings might be interested in Senators LW Dany Heatley.
Analysis: Frolov led the Kings in goals with 32 last season, three off the career high he set in 2006-07. He also posted just 27 assists, the first time he failed to reach 30 since the 2003-04 season. Frolov, like many Kings, struggled offensively in 2008-09 as they adjusted to coach Terry Murray's defense-first approach. Perhaps Frolov would benefit from a Fantasy standpoint if he were to leave L.A. If he stays, consider Frolov more of a No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy forward Draft Day.

Frolov returns with two goals

News: Kings LW Alexander Frolov, who leads the Kings with 30 goals, returned to the Kings after missing five games because of a lower-body injury. He scored two goals in Saturday's game against the Coyotes, scoring two goals in the game.
Analysis: Frolov is one of the Kings' top players offensively and he showed it in his return to action. He is safe to have active for the upcoming scoring period and is a No. 3 option when healthy.
