Jets Recall Jaffray

News: Jason Jaffray has been recalled by the Jets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.

Jaffray just happy to be on roster

News: The Sports Xchange reports Flames C Jason Jaffray, who defied the odds by making the team out of training camp despite having a two-way contract and the squad boasting 14 forwards with one-way contracts, was the lone healthy scratch for Thursday's opener against the Canucks. It didn't bother the 28-year-old from the town of Olds, about an hour away from Calgary, who'd never been on an opening-day roster before.
Analysis: Jaffray played in 14 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season, recording two goals and two assists. He also had 23 goals and 26 assists in 56 games with Manitoba of the AHL. Jaffray has pretty much been organizational depth since turning pro and that likely won't change in 2009-10. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

Jaffray scores for Vancouver

News: Vancouver C Jason Jaffray scored his second goal in the 3rd period of Thursday's 2-1 win over the Predators. Jaffray's goal snapped a 1-1 tie for the Canucks win.

Jaffray trying to stay in NHL

News: The Sports Xchange reports Canucks C Jason Jaffray got back into the lineup Sunday against the Senators, replacing Taylor Pyatt, who is out at least four weeks with a broken foot. Jaffray centered the fourth line on Sunday between LW Darcy Hordichuk and RW Mike Brown.
Analysis: For Jaffray, it's a chance to earn a regular spot in the lineup. "These last few games, I really wanted to prove a point that I deserve to stay here," Jaffray said. "With Mats Sundin coming and Ryan Johnson back in the mix soon, they're going to have to make some decisions and I just want to make the decision tough on them -- that's all I can do." Jaffray has been primarily a minor leaguer and could be back down in the AHL shortly. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Jaffray energizes Canucks fourth line

News: The Sports Xchange reports C Jason Jaffray is giving the Canucks' fourth line something it was missing with veteran C Ryan Johnson: offense. With Jaffray recalled from the AHL, where he had 17 points in 17 games, after the penalty-killing, shot-blocking specialist Johnson broke his hand and foot, the fourth line has scored in consecutive games. And Jaffray, who has a goal and an assist, was even rewarded with power play time in Colorado Sunday, filling in for Mason Raymond, who moved back to the point after Sami Salo left with a suspected groin injury late in the first period.
Analysis: Jaffray is definitely giving some energy to the Canucks' fourth line, but how excited can Fantasy owners get about a lower-line forward? Jaffray has been primarily a minor leaguer and could be back down in the AHL shortly. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Jaffray has first goal, fight Friday

News: Canucks forward Jason Jaffray scored the game-winning goal during Friday's 2-1 win against the Wild. Jaffray scored in the second period to give the Canucks the lead back after Mikko Koivu slammed a long rebound past Schneider just 27 seconds after the first intermission. Goalie Niklas Backstrom tried to squeeze his glove on Jaffray's shot, but it zoomed underneath. Jaffray also got into a fight with Brent Burns in the third period.
Analysis: Jaffray has been up for just three games this season, but he wasn't added for his enforcer skills. In fact, he doesn't really have a reputation as a fighter, but he is a solid two-way player. Jaffray has been primarily a minor leaguer and could be back down in the AHL shortly. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Analysis: Jaffray was up and down with the Canucks last season and earned his recall this season with 17 points in his first 17 games for the Moose. Along with Bolduc, he can be ignored in all Fantasy formats, however.

Analysis: Jaffray, 26, has played in 26 games for the Moose, recording 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points and 43 penalty minutes. Jaffray has not been able to stay up with the team long enough to garner much Fantasy consideration. Continue to ignore him in Fantasy leagues.

Analysis: Jaffray, who signed with the Canucks last summer, recorded his first career NHL goal Dec. 12 at Anaheim and his first assist in his NHL debut against the Anaheim Ducks. Jaffray has not been able to stay up with the team long enough to garner much Fantasy considerations.

Jaffray scores, helps on another

News: LW Mason Raymond and C Jason Jaffray made the most of their call-up from the AHL after the Canucks lost C Brendan Morrison (wrist surgery) and RW Brad Isbister (hamstring) were both injured. Playing on a second line with Taylor Pyatt, Raymond and Jaffray, who played more than 350 games in the minors, took turns setting up each other's first NHL goals in a 3-2 win over Anaheim on Wednesday night.
Analysis: "That far exceeds my expectations, to get regular shifts with Taylor Pyatt and Mason Raymond and also get a chance to play on the power play," Jaffray, 26, said after his first NHL game. "It couldn't have happened any better for me, to get a goal and an assist. It seemed like all the waiting was definitely worth it." Neither Raymond or Jaffray are worth looking at outside of larger leagues.

Canucks make final roster cuts

News: The Vancouver Canucks have assigned RW Mike Brown, D Patrick Coulombe and C Jason Jaffray to Manitoba of the AHL, as they trimmed their roster down to 24.
Analysis: We might see these players some time later in the season if injuries open up spots, but neither is worth a look in Fantasy leagues at this time.
