Caps' King To Remain On Roster

News: King will remain on the Caps' roster after successfully clearing waivers Monday, Katie Carrera of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: King's greatest fantasy value lies in his ability to get to the sin bin, as he's racked up 25 PIMs in 14 games.

Caps' King Expected to Play

News: King is expected to see ice time for the Capitals on Tuesday, the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: With David Steckel expected to be a healthy scratch, King will see ice time Tuesday night. Look for the action to get a bit chippy as King and the Capitals visit Derek Boogaard, whom King has squared off against four times in his career.

King in Lineup for Caps Saturday

News: King has only appeared in three games this season but expects Saturday to be the fourth appearance, the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: King was brought in to be the enforcer for this young team and has five penalty minutes to show for it. He has not registered any other stats, but with coach Bruce Boudreau shuffling players and lines, he hopes to chip in on the scoresheet somewhere Saturday.

King to finally get back on ice

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues RW D.J. King will play just his second game of the season Thursday when he returns from a hand injury to face the Sharks.
Analysis: King played just one game last season because of a shoulder injury and then broke his hand four seconds into his first game of this campaign. Nothing more than an enforcer for the Blues, King only has value in the deepest of leagues that reward bad behavior.

News: The Blues have assigned RW D.J. King to the AHL for a conditioning stint.
Analysis: King is an enforcer with the Blues but doesn't do enough offensively to be worth using in Fantasy play when healthy.

King out 8-10 weeks with hand injury

News: Blues RW D.J. King will be sidelined 8-10 weeks with a fracture/dislocation of his right hand.
Analysis: King is an enforcer with the Blues but doesn't do enough offensively to be worth using in Fantasy play when healthy. Continue to ignore him while he's on IR.

King injures hand in fight

News: Blues F D.J. King (dislocated thumb) made his season debut Saturday and it didn't last long. After a fight on his first shift of the game with Dallas F Krys Barch, King left the ice favoring his right hand and did not return.
Analysis: King is not much of an offensive force when healthy and does little for Fantasy owners other than rack up penalty minutes. When healthy, he is only worth using in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

King going to AHL for conditioning

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues RW D.J. King is going to the AHL for a conditioning assignment. He can stay down there no longer than two weeks.
Analysis: King only played in one game last season before a shoulder injury ended his year. He is nothing more than a Fantasy flier for leagues that reward heavily for PIM, when healthy.

King might return for Thursday game

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues RW D.J. King (dislocated thumb) practiced Monday and is likely to be taken off IR in time for Thursday’s home opener.
Analysis: King only played in one game last season before a shoulder injury ended his year. He is nothing more than a Fantasy flier for leagues that reward heavily for PIM, when healthy.

King might sit until healthy

News: The Sports Xchange reports Blues LW D.J. King underwent surgery to repair his left thumb after injuring it in practice. King has resumed skating with the team, but because of the nature of the enforcer's job, he may not play until the thumb is totally healed.
Analysis: King only played in one game last season before a shoulder injury ended his year. This ailment is not as serious, but King might miss the first few games of the season. He is nothing more than a Fantasy flier for leagues that reward heavily for PIM. He is an injury-risk start for Week 1 (Oct. 1-11).

King could have to fight for job

News: The Sports Xchange reports Blues LW D.J. King and RW Cam Janssen could be fighting for a job in training camp. There might be only one roster spot for the Blues' two enforcers, who are each entering the final year of their contracts.
Analysis: King only played in one game last season before a shoulder injury ended his year. Janssen is definitely insurance in the event King is not back at 100 percent, but we can see a situation where both players could have to share the one enforcer role. King is still only worth a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

King back skating again

News: The Sports Xchange reports that Blues LW D.J. King skated this week for the first time since suffering a shoulder injury in the first week of the season. The injury required surgery and King will miss the entire season.
Analysis: King acts as an enforcer for the Blues when healthy and has limited offensive upside. He remains primarily an option in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when healthy.

King rumored to have serious injury

News: The Sports Xchange reports Blues left winger D.J. King missed Saturday's game against Chicago with what sources have said is a dislocated shoulder, which probably will require surgery, but so far the Blues have said nothing. Asked why King was out of the lineup, Blues president John Davidson said: "We can't say." Later, the Blues said it's an upper-body injury.
Analysis: King acts as an enforcer for the Blues when healthy and has limited offensive upside. He remains primarily an option in leagues that reward heavily for PIM. Consider him an injury-risk start for Fantasy Week 3 (Oct. 20-26).

King can't come off IR Sat.

Three Blues forwards fighting injury

News: The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Blues forwards D.J. King (wrist) and Dan Hinote (leg) are both eligible to come off injured reserve. However, they missed Friday's opener against the Predators. Yan Stastny also missed the game because of a hip injury.
Analysis: King, Hinote and Stasny are mostly lower-line forwards and all have marginal offensive skills. King is really the only Fantasy viable player and he remains primarily an option in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Heavyweight King slims down

News: The Sports Xchange reports Blues forward D.J. King, one of the NHL's top heavyweight fighters, looks much leaner heading into the 2008-09 season. King was involved in 14 fights last year, managing a record of 9-1 with four draws, according to hockeyfights.com. His only loss came to Minnesota's Derek Boogaard.
Analysis: King played in a career-high 61 games last season, totaling three assists and three goals. He also had 100 penalty minutes and has 152 PIM in his first 88 career games. King is nothing more than a flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

News: LW D.J. King scored his second goal of the season Wednesday night against Vancouver. King also has one assist this season and averages only some five minutes of ice time per game.
Analysis: King is one of the Blues' top enforcers, which is evident by his 57 penalty minutes. He won't help much outside Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for penalty minutes.

King surprises Lalime with goal

News: Blues RW D.J. King gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead 4:13 into the second period Saturday against the Blackhawks, when he went in on a 2-on-1 and fired a shot from the top of the right hash marks. He surprised Patrick Lalime as the puck caromed between the Chicago goaltender and off the inside of his right leg. It was his first goal this season and second in 46 career games.
Analysis: King is one of the Blues' top enforcers, which is evident by his 33 penalty minutes and just one goal. He won't help much outside Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for penalty minutes.

D.J. King sits out Wednesday

News: LW Martin Rucinsky was back in the lineup at Detroit Wednesday for LW D.J. King, after sitting out Monday's game as a healthy scratch.
Analysis: Fantasy owners in deeper leagues are the only people who should rely on Rucinsky. King is only worth a look in Fantasy leagues that reward for PIM at this time.

King stirs up trouble Friday

News: Blues RW D.J. King was slapped with three penalties that totaled nine minutes during Friday's game against the Blue Jackets. He first spent two minutes in the box for cross-checking. Then it was five minutes for fightning and he capped the night with a two-minute penalty for abuse of officials.
Analysis: To say King was in a bit of trouble Friday is an understatement. He doesn't spend much time on the ice (about six minutes per game), but does have a knack for racking up penalties. He is only worth a look in Fantasy leagues that reward for PIM at this time.
