Lightning Bring In Roy

News: The Lightning signed Mathieu Roy on Tuesday, according to NHL.com.
Analysis: The 26-year-old is coming back to the NHL after spending this season in the German Elite League. He's not a point-getter by any means, though he could be a super-cheap source of penalty minutes if the Lightning decides to give him some time as they play out the string for three final games.

'Canes Sign Roy

News: Mathieu Roy has signed a two-way deal with Carolina, Jeff Marek of CBC.ca reports.
Analysis: He'll battle for a roster spot in camp and afford Carolina blue-line flexibility in that he can be sent to the AHL if he doesn't stick with the big club.

Bolts Recall Roy

News: The Lightning recalled Roy from AHL Norfolk on Thursday, the Tampa Tribune reports.
Analysis: Roy seems to be an emergency recall more than anything else, since the Bolts are somewhat uncertain about Victor Hedman's status for Thursday's game against the Flyers. Roy's stay with the Lightning might be a short one.

Analysis: He got in one game with the Bolts; he picked up a minor penalty in 9:22 of ice time.

Lightning Recall Roy

News: The Lightning recalled Roy from AHL Norfolk on Monday, the Tampa Tribune's Erik Erlendsson reports.
Analysis: Tampa is dealing with a few injuries to its blue line, so Roy will add an extra body to the mix. He had eight points (two goals, six assists) and 14 penalty minutes in nine AHL games this season.

Jackets send Roy to Florida for Rust

News: The Blue Jackets have traded D Mathieu Roy to the Panthers for C Matt Rust.
Analysis: Roy has played a career-high 31 games this season for Columbus, with 10 assists to show for it. The 26-year-old shouldn't see any kind of boost in Fantasy value with this move, so continue to ignore him in all formats. Rust is finishing up his junior year at the University of Michigan, where he has 32 points in 37 games this season. He has no Fantasy value at this time.

News: Blue Jackets D Mathieu Roy has cleared waivers and been sent to the AHL.
Analysis: Roy was filling in for the injured Rostislav Klesla while up in Columbus and had a decent 10 assists in 31 games. Continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.

M. Roy pops up with pair of assists

News: Blue Jackets D Mathieu Roy assisted twice in Monday's win over the Blues, giving him eight points on the season.
Analysis: Roy has been filling in for the injured Rostislav Klesla, but hasn't done much offensively. Continue to ignore Roy in all Fantasy formats.

Roy called up by Columbus

News: The Blue Jackets have placed Rostislav Klesla on injured reserve after the defenseman sustained a lower body injury in a game against St. Louis. Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson announced the move on Tuesday. Klesla was injured in a mid-ice collision with the Blues' Barret Jackman during the first period of the Blue Jackets' 5-2 victory Monday night. He is believed to have torn a groin muscle and is expected to be sidelined for at least a month. Klesla lay on the ice for 5 minutes and did not put any weight on his left leg when he was helped off. Columbus brought up defenseman Mathieu Roy from the team's AHL affiliate in Syracuse to replace Klesla.
Analysis: The injury comes at a bad time for Klesla, who has three assists in his last six games. The last thing he wants to deal with is another injury after playing just 34 games last season due to various ailments. Klesla remains more of a low-end Fantasy option when healthy. He also has value in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. He should obviously be benched in all formats until he is able to return.

Roy assigned to AHL team

News: The Columbus Blue Jackets assigned defenseman Mathieu Roy to Syracuse of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.
Analysis: Roy had four assists in seven games after joining the Blue Jackets on emergency recall from Syracuse on Oct. 3. He signed with Columbus as a free agent in July after five seasons in Edmonton's organization. It's very shocking Roy is in the minors since he has been solid since his recall, but the Blue Jackets need the roster spot. Ignore Roy in Fantasy until further notice.

Roy likely to fill in for Columbus

News: Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jan Hejda will miss 4-6 weeks with a sprained left knee. The club disclosed the injury on Wednesday. The veteran was injured late in Tuesday night's 2-1 victory over Calgary when he collided with Flames forward Curtis Glencross. The win gave the Blue Jackets (4-1-0) their fastest start in franchise history. Hejda's spot will likely be taken by Mathieu Roy. The Blue Jackets are already down one defenseman while Mike Commodore - a part of the top pairing on the blueline with Hejda - recovers from a groin injury.
Analysis: Roy has two assists in three games this season and his fast start is likely why he moves into Hejda's slot. Still, Roy has only 33 NHL games to his credit and has little to no Fantasy appeal.

Roy recalled because of injury

News: The Sports Xchange reports D Mathieu Roy was recalled from minor-league Syracuse (AHL) and made his Blue Jackets debut on Saturday in a 2-1 win over the Wild. Roy was needed when D Mike Commodore suffered a groin injury. He had no points in 14:09 of ice time.
Analysis: Roy has played in just 31 NHL games and has three points. He has pretty much been just organizational depth and should be back in the minors shortly. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

News: The Blue Jackets have placed LW Alexandre Picard and D Mathieu Roy on waivers, with the intention of assigning them to the AHL.

Roy fighting for roster spot

News: The Sports Xchange reports D Nick Holden and D Mathieu Roy could make the Blue Jackets roster with a solid training camp performance. As it stands, the Blue Jackets' top six is settled on defense, but the extra spot is up for grabs.
Analysis: Roy has appeared in just 30 career NHL games, all with the Oilers. He has three points (two goals) and 57 penalty minutes. He spent all of the 2008-09 season with Springfield of the AHL. Roy is merely organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Roy finally gets out of Edmonton

News: The Blue Jackets signed free agent defenseman Mathieu Roy to a one-year, two-way contract Tuesday.
Analysis: Roy has spent his entire career with the Oilers, totaling two goals and three points in 30 games since 2005-06. He did not appear with the team in 2008-09 and has wanted out ever since. Roy had two goals, 17 points and 120 penalty minutes with Springfield of the AHL last season. Roy is nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Roy wants out of Edmonton

News: The Sports Xchange reports D Mathieu Roy was sent to the Oilers' AHL affiliate in Springfield, Mass. Frustrated by his failed attempts to get his foot in Edmonton's door, Roy says he wants out of the organization so he can get a fresh start somewhere else.
Analysis: Roy has been pretty much a minor league journeyman and a fresh start might only mean him being in the minors with another team. It's obvious that Roy has no Fantasy value at this time.

Edmonton's Roy feels fine to play

News: Defenseman Mathieu Roy felt good enough Friday to dress up and play for the Oilers who lost 5-2 at Dallas. Roy played 13 shifts in 10 minutes and finished plus-1. He was questionable coming into the game after injuring his sternum.
Analysis: The game was just the sixth for Roy this season. He has no Fantasy value at this time.

M. Roy injures sternum in loss

News: Oilers D Mathieu Roy, the oft-injured blueliner who's struggling to make a place for himself in the NHL, injured his sternum in his first up with the Oilers after being recalled from Springfield, according to The Sports Xchange. He's day to day.
Analysis: Roy has only played in five games this season and has zero Fantasy value at this time.

M. Roy on rehab assignment

News: D Mathieu Roy, who'd been out of the lineup with a shoulder injury since mid-November, is healthy enough to play. The Oilers shipped him to Springfield (AHL) on a conditioning assignment.
Analysis: Roy has only been active for four games this season and continues to be an injury-prone player. When healthy, Roy is only recommended in the deepest of Fantasy leagues, but even that is a risky proposition.

M. Roy sidelined six weeks

News: D Mathieu Roy will be out about six weeks with a separated shoulder. He was looking forward to some additional ice time after injuries to Sheldon Souray, Joni Pitkanen and Matt Greene, but on the very first shift of his golden opportunity to try and establish himself, he was knocked out of the lineup by Nashville's Jordin Tootoo.
Analysis: Roy has only been active for four games this season and continues to be an injury-prone player. When healthy, Roy is only recommended in the deepest of Fantasy leagues, but even that is a risky proposition.

Roy slammed into boards, injured

News: Friday's game between the Predators and Oilers started off with a bit of a scare as Oilers defenseman Mathieu Roy went hard into the boards on what looked to be a clean check by Jordin Tootoo just three minutes in. Roy, who left a game on a stretcher following a concussion-causing hit in the preseason against Vancouver, was down for a long stretch and had another stretcher standing by, but was able to leave the ice on his own. He did not return and was diagnosed with a shoulder injury.
Analysis: Roy has only been active for four games this season and continues to be an injury-prone player. When healthy, Roy is only recommended in the deepest of Fantasy leagues, but even that is a risky proposition.

D Roy comes off injured reserve

News: Mathieu Roy (upper body injury) came off of injured reserve to play in Tuesday's game against the Avalanche. He was scoreless with two shots on goal in 13:27 of ice time.
Analysis: Roy also picked up a fighting major, getting into it with Colorado's Ian Laperriere. It appears his injury is fine. He remains a useful option only in the deepest of Fantasy leagues which heavily reward penalty minutes.

D Roy nursing upper body injury

News: The Edmonton Oilers have placed Mathieu Roy on injured reserve to start the regular season due to an 'upper body' injury. He had a tough preseason, as he was hit in the face by a puck in a game and then was sent head first into the boards on Sept. 29 and left on a stretch.
Analysis: When healthy, Roy is only worth a look in the deepest of Fantasy leagues. He is sidelined indefinitely at this point.

D Roy back in the lineup

News: Mathieu Roy (concussion) was scoreless with a minus-1 rating in 20:03 of ice time in Tuesday's return at Nashville.
Analysis: Roy is not a recommended Fantasy option in all but the largest of leagues which heavily reward penalty minutes.
