Sanford Headed to KHL

News: Curtis Sanford signed a one-year deal to play with Lokomotiv of the KHL on Monday, Aaron Portzline reports.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford went down in late March with a quadriceps tear and was on the shelf for the remainder of the year. Sanford posted a record of 10-18 with a 2.60 GAA and .911 save percentage for the Blue Jackets. It appears Columbus may have been Sanford's last stop on the NHL circuit.

Columbus' Sanford Likely Done For Season

News: Curtis Sanford (quadriceps) will likely miss the rest of the season, BlueJackets.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: It's not clear whether the injury is serious or if Columbus just doesn't see the point in rushing Curtis Sanford back. With a 23-42-7 record, the Blue Jackets have nothing to play for.

Jackets' Sanford To Have MRI Monday

News: Curtis Sanford (quad) will undergo an MRI on Monday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford doesn't seem to think the injury is too serious, but even in the best case he'll likely miss a few games.

Jackets' Sanford Leaves With Injury

News: Curtis Sanford started Sunday's game against Calgary, but left in the first period with an injury and did not return.
Analysis: Steve Mason led the Jackets to a win in Curtis Sanford's stead, and his status is currently unknown.

Jackets' Sanford To Face Flames Sunday

News: Curtis Sanford will start Sunday at Calgary, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Steve Mason was between the pipes for Saturday's 4-3 loss to Vancouver, so it's not surprising to see Curtis Sanford get the call in this back-to-back game situation. Overall, he's posted superior stats to Mason this season and should continue to see the bulk of starts over the last few weeks of the schedule.

Jackets' Sanford To Start Wednesday

News: Curtis Sanford will get another start on Wednesday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Steve Mason is close to returning from his hand injury, and given the little run of success he was having prior to getting hurt, Mason will likely assume the starting role again once he's ready, pushing Curtis Sanford back into his backup role.

Jackets' Sanford Lets In Two, Still Loses

News: Curtis Sanford made 24 saves on 26 shots against the Blues on Sunday, but he still took the loss.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford has picked up a loss in his last five starts, which is partially a product of the team he plays for, but this was also his best outing in those five games.

Blue Jackets Roll With Sanford Sunday

News: Curtis Sanford started in goal for Columbus on Sunday against the Blues.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford will get a quick chance to bounce back against the Blues after dropping the first of Columbus' back-to-back games with St. Louis on Saturday, 4-1.

Sanford Yields Four Goals As Jackets Stumble

News: Curtis Sanford ended Saturday's contest against St. Louis on the short end of a 4-1 score. He surrendered the four tallies on 29 shots (.862).
Analysis: As we noted here recently, he stands to get several starts due to the absence of injured starter Steve Mason. We never promised you that they would be high-quality outings, of course.

Jackets' Sanford To Face Blues Saturday

News: Curtis Sanford will start Saturday at St. Louis, according to Shawn Mitchell of Blue Jackets Extra.
Analysis: With regular starter Steve Mason (hand) on the shelf for the foreseeable future, Curtis Sanford is expected to get the lion's share of starts until he returns. However, he'll be in tough against the first-place Blues, who are tied with Detroit for the most home wins so far this season (28).

Sanford Subs In For Jackets

News: Curtis Sanford stopped all 13 shots he faced in relief of Steve Mason after Mason was injured in Thursday's win.
Analysis: With Mason on the shelf for a bit thanks to needing 15 stitches in his hand, it's likely Curtis Sanford will see a few starts in the short term.

Sanford Starting Tuesday For Jackets

News: Curtis Sanford will tend the twine Tuesday against the Red Wings, according to Shawn Mitchell of Blue Jackets Extra.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford has lost his last two outings allowing seven goals, but in his last start against the Wings he allowed just two goals on 31 shots.

Curtis Sanford

Sanford, Jackets Shelled

News: Curtis Sanford allowed five goals on 25 shots in Tuesday's loss to Detroit, his second-consecutive game.
Analysis: Columbus simply can not figure out their goaltending situation. Curtis Sanford has allowed nine goals the last two games while Steve Mason surrendered five goals to Colorado last Friday. It's nearly impossible to endorse either of the Jackets' netminders; at this point they may be better off with Fred Sanford in goal.

Jackets' Sanford Sharp In Return

News: Curtis Sanford made 36 saves in Sunday's 4-2 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: He kept the Blue Jackets in this one for two periods before the floodgates finally opened for the Pittsburgh offense, and looked none the worse for wear after missing seven games with back trouble. Unless he gets traded by Monday afternoon's deadline, expect Curtis Sanford to see plenty of work down the stretch for Columbus.

Curtis Sanford

Sanford To Start For Blue Jackets Sunday

News: Curtis Sanford (back) will get the start on Sunday against the Penguins, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He's missed seven games with his back injury, and Steve Mason has been his usual inconsistent self during that time, mixing good games with terrible ones. A couple of sharp efforts from Curtis Sanford should put him right back on top of the Blue Jackets' depth chart.

Blue Jackets Activate Sanford (Back) From IR

News: Curtis Sanford (back) has been activated from injured reserve, Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The job will be between Steve Mason and Curtis Sanford now. Mason is 8-21-3 on the season with just a 3.44 GAA and an .888 save percentage, so the Jackets will probably try to get Sanford back in soon.

Jackets' Sanford Close To Returning

News: Curtis Sanford (back) could be ready to return to action in time for Friday's game against the Avalanche, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Steve Mason hasn't been terrible in his absence, so it'll be interesting to see how much work Curtis Sanford gets when he's cleared to play.

Blue Jackets' Sanford Improving

News: Curtis Sanford (back) had an epidural late last week and is feeling much better, the Columbus Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The report notes that Curtis Sanford should return later this week, but adds that Steve Mason and Allen York will be the two Columbus goalies suiting up Tuesday against the Sharks.

Columbus Places Sanford On IR

News: Curtis Sanford (back) was placed on IR on Friday, BlueJackets.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford was injured Thursday, Feb. 9, so the IR designation doesn't necessarily mean he'll be out much longer. The problem is that the team still hasn't commented on the severity of the injury, and Sanford had back troubles in December, as well. There's still nothing more than a question mark here.

Columbus' Sanford Unavailable Tuesday

News: Curtis Sanford (back) won't play against St. Louis on Tuesday, BlueJackets.NHL.com reports.
Analysis: It's not clear when Curtis Sanford will be ready to return as the Jackets' second option at goalie.

Blue Jackets' Sanford Out Sunday

News: Curtis Sanford (back) will not play Sunday against Anaheim, the Blue Jackets' official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: The extent of Curtis Sanford's injury is not yet known, but this will be the second game that Sanford is forced to miss because of it. Steve Mason will continue to work as starter for the time being, and Sanford's status for Tuesday's game against St. Louis is up in the air.

Jackets' Sanford Out With Back Injury

News: Curtis Sanford suffered a back injury during the third period of Thursday's 4-2 loss to Dallas, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: The severity of the injury is unknown at this time, however Curtis Sanford, who missed four games because of back and hip injuries in December, did not travel to Minnesota for Saturday's game against the Wild. In his place, Steve Mason will assume the starter's role for the time being. Reserve Sanford immediately and monitor his status closely.

Curtis Sanford

Sanford Starting Thursday For Jackets

News: Curtis Sanford will start for the Blue Jackets on Thursday against the Stars, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford is three wins short of matching his career best of 13 wins, but he's still well under .500 at 10-12-4. He's allowed just six goals in his last three starts, so at least he's playing well of late.

Curtis Sanford

Jackets' Sanford Solid In Loss

News: Curtis Sanford stopped 32 of 25 shots Thursday against the Stars, but was stuck with the loss.
Analysis: A familiar refrain. Coming into this game, Curtis Sanford had won twice in a row for just the second time this season, but that obviously had to end. He's played decently, but certainly can't be counted on to win very often.

Sanford Starting Tuesday For Jackets

News: Curtis Sanford will start in net Tuesday when the Jackets take on the Wild, according to Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: Curtis Sanford has won only one of his last four appearances, but he continues to draw most of the starts, since the Blue Jackets' other option is Steve Mason.
