News: Jeff Taffe was recalled from Houston of the AHL, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Jeff Taffe made a strong impression with two assists in two games in his last callup, so he could stick around with so many forwards and centers currently hurt for the Wild.

Taffe Recalled By 'Hawks For Canucks' Series

News: Taffe was recalled by the Blackhawks on Monday for the first round series against the Canucks, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Taffe had a cup of coffee with the big club this season with one game. He paced Rockford of the AHL and shared eighth in the AHL with a career-high 30 goals and led the IceHogs with 67 points (30 goals, 37 assists) in 74 regular-season games.

Blackhawks Dispatch Taffe to Rockford

News: Taffe was sent by the Blackhawks to Rockford of the AHL on Monday.
Analysis: With the expected flux in the Blackhawks' roster this season, Taffe should probably see some time, although not much, with the big club. He only had two points in 21 games for the Panthers last season.

Panthers recall Taffe from AHL

News: The Panthers have recalled LW Jeff Taffe from the AHL.
Analysis: Taffe is a fringe guy who has played in 171 NHL games over seven seasons. He has no Fantasy value.

Panthers call up Matthias, Taffe

News: The Panthers have called up C Shawn Matthias and LW Jeff Taffe.
Analysis: Matthias is a solid prospect for the Panthers and decent keeper option, but has no seasonal value until he can stick around in the NHL on a permanent basis. Taffe is a 28-year-old veteran who is having a solid AHL season with 29 points in 30 games, but is more organizational depth than anything.

Florida makes some roster moves

News: Florida recalled C Jeff Taffe, C Mike Duco and G Alexander Salak from Rochester (AHL) and reassigned C Shawn Matthias and LW Steve MacInytre.
Analysis: It's surprising Florida sent MacInytre to the minors since he has been a solid presence as an enforcer since joining the team a few weeks ago. He is likely back with the Panthers in the coming weeks, if not days, so he is still a viable Fantasy flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM when active. Taffe, Duco, Salak and Matthias remain more of organizational depth and can be left alone in Fantasy until further notice.

Taffe recalled from Rochester

News: Florida recalled C Jeff Taffe from Rochester of the AHL on Wednesday. Unfortunately, he was a healthy scratch against Carolina.
Analysis: Taffe has four goals and seven points in nine games in the AHL. He has proven himself in the minors, but he just hasn't gotten a fair shot in the NHL. Taffe is merely organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Panthers bring Taffe in to compete

News: The Panthers signed free-agent center Jeff Taffe to a two-year contract Monday. "Jeff is a focused, driven and hard working player who we are very pleased to have join our organization," Panthers assistant GM Randy Sexton said. "He posted career best numbers last season while playing for Wilkes-Barre (AHL), but has also shown that he can play in the National Hockey League. We expect him to compete for a position on our team in training camp."
Analysis: The 28-year-old Taffe split last season playing for both the Penguins and Wilkes-Barre. He has two assists in eight games for the Pens and 25 goals and 75 points in 74 games for Wilkes-Barre. He has 20 goals and 22 assists in 153 NHL games between Phoenix, N.Y. Rangers and Pittsburgh. Taffe appears to be nothing more than organizational depth and has little to no Fantasy appeal.

James, Taffe back in minors

News: The Sports Xchange reports Penguins RW Connor James, 26, was the latest prospect to snag a promotion because of injuries. He was recalled before Saturday's game at Philadelphia. With forward Max Talbot (undisclosed injury) not with the team, James skated as the right wing on a line with left wing Matt Cooke and center Jordan Staal. James, 26, became the seventh player the Penguins have recalled from the AHL since Nov. 17. Three of those players, also including forwards Tim Wallace and Jeff Taffe, played at Philadelphia.
Analysis: James and Taffe were re-assigned to the AHL after that game, but coach Michel Therrien said he is not optimistic about his team's injury fortunes. "There aren't many guys that are supposed to come back," Therrien said. "Besides Talbot, who's got a chance, there aren't many guys." James and Taffe are nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Taffe sneaks through waivers

News: The Penguins assigned center Jeff Taffe to Wilkes-Barre of the AHL Thursday.
Analysis: Taffe was not claimed on waivers, so the Pens were able to sneak him into the minors. He is nothing more than organizational depth and can be ignored in Fantasy.

Penguins waive Taffe, assign two others

News: The Penguins waived C Jeff Taffe on Tuesday and assigned LW Janne Pesonen and G John Curry to Wilkes-Barre (AHL).
Analysis: The 26-year-old Pesonen scored 78 points in 58 games last season back in his native Finland, but apparently his game isn't ready for the NHL just yet. He still has some value in keeper formats, however, Curry and Taffe can continue to be ignored in all formats.

Penguins re-sign Taffe, Filewich

News: The Pittsburgh Penguins signed C Jeff Taffe to a one-year contract on Monday, giving him a chance to play a second season with the team. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound forward debuted with the Penguins in December. In 45 games, Taffe had five goals and seven assists. The native of Hastings, Minn., was originally chosen by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2000 NHL draft. In 145 career games with the Penguins, the Phoenix Coyotes and the New York Rangers, Taffe has 20 goals and 20 assists. The Penguins also re-signed F Jonathan Filewich to a two-year contract on Monday. He played five games with the Penguins last season, but spent most of the season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, where he had 10 goals and 21 assists in 71 games.
Analysis: Both of these players should be ignored in all Fantasy formats, as they are unlikely to contribute much offensively.

Taffe makes his contribution

News: Jeff Taffe scored a first-period goal for the trade-depleted Pittsburgh, providing early offense for the Penguins in a 4-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. Taffe doubled the lead for his team during a 5-on-3 power play with 2:08 remaining in the first. He got to a loose puck that pinballed in the crease off Islanders forward Andy Hilbert and pushed it past Rick DiPietro.
Analysis: Taffe has four goals on the season, but two of them came in the last three games. He has been up with the big team since a recall on Dec. 20, but does not produce enough points to warrant use in Fantasy leagues.

Taffe has points in two straight

News: Penguins C Jeff Taffe tallied an assist and finished at even during Sunday's game against the Sharks. He now has a goal and an assist in his last two games, but has just six points in 30 games this season.
Analysis: Taffe has been with the Penguins since his recall on Dec. 20. He has seen some playing time on the second line with Jordan Staal and Colby Armstrong, but still doesn't do enough to warrant use in Fantasy leagues.

Taffe gets second goal of season

News: Jeff Taffe scored his second goal of the season in the first period to help the Penguins beat Canadiens 2-0 on Saturday. Taffe beat Cristobal Huet on a setup by Penguins enforcer Georges Laraque.
Analysis: Taffe has been with the Penguins since his recall on Dec. 20. He is averaging about nine minutes per game. Ignore him in Fantasy leagues at this time.

Taffe picks up assist Tuesday

News: Penguins C Jeff Taffe managed an assist and plus-1 rating during Tuesday's game against the Panthers. It was his second points (1 G, 1 A) in his last six games.
Analysis: Taffe has been with the Penguins since his recall on Dec. 20. He is playing less than 10 minutes per game and will likely be back in the minors as soon as a roster spot is needed. Ignore him in Fantasy leagues at this time.
