Ex-Red Wing White Signs Deal With Swiss Club

News: Ian White has signed a one-year contract with Geneve-Servette of the Swiss Elite League, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The Red Wings let Ian White walk in free agency this past offseason after he contributed four points in 25 games for the club last season. He failed to land any sort of lucrative deal with an NHL club in the summer and will now head overseas for employment.

Red Wings Will Not Retain White

News: Ian White will not return to the Red Wings next season and will become an unrestricted free agent July 5, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Once the Wings signed Danny DeKeyser, Ian White was an odd-man out of the lineup down the stretch and following a two-year stint that paid him $5.75 million in Detroit, While will look to secure a top-six role elsewhere with the chance to see occasional power-play work as well depending on the other pieces on his new club.

News: Ian White will be a healthy scratch Thursday against San Jose, MLive.com reports.

White Back In The Fold For Wings

News: The Wings have been using Ian White to man the point on their second power-play unit recently, while he's been in the lineup for five straight games after being a healthy scratch in eight of nine games.
Analysis: Ian White has delivered a point in back-to-back games and seems to be gaining the trust of head coach Mike Babcock as he played 4:42 on the power play in Monday night's win over Phoenix. White is skating with Jakub Kindl as part of the third pairing in Detroit, but he may be trending back toward having value in very deep formats.

News: Ian White was excused from the team for Wednesday's game due to personal reasons, the Detroit Free Press reports.

News: Ian White was plus-1 while playing 16:04 in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jackets.

Wings' White A Healthy Scratch For Fifth Straight

News: Ian White will be a healthy scratch for the fifth straight game Thursday, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: He'll be joined by Kent Huskins in the press box, while the Wings may be looking to deal Ian White at the upcoming trade deadline as things will only be more crowded if Carlo Colaiacovo returns from a shoulder injury.

Wings Scratch White Wednesday

News: Ian White will be a healthy scratch against the Kings on Wednesday, Mlive.com reports.
Analysis: Ian White has just one goal and one assist in 14 games to date after scoring 32 points (including 10 on the power play) in 77 games last season. He figures to be back in the lineup sooner rather than later, but now that he is no longer seeing time paired with Niklas Kronwall, his production has dipped enough to send him to the press box.

Wings' White Planning Tuesday Return

News: Ian White (leg) is expected to return for Tuesday's game against the Flames according to coach Mike Babcock, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: Ian White would be a nice defensive boost for the injury-riddled Red Wings. He has not played since Jan. 22 when he sustained the leg injury. He has one goal on the season across three games played. This targeted return solidifies that he will be out for the weekend's slate of games.

News: Ian White will miss two-to-three weeks after suffering a laceration on his left leg in Tuesday's game against Dallas, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Wings' White Calls Out Bettman

News: Ian White shared his frustration about the lockout with the media Friday, calling league commissioner Gary Bettman "an idiot," according to a report on TSN.ca.
Analysis: "I personally think he's an idiot," Ian White said Friday after a workout. "Since he's come in, he's done nothing but damaged the game. The moves he's made, teams that are struggling seem to be ones he put in places where there's not viable markets for hockey." The bad blood is clearly building, but this is one of the first times we've heard such direct language used.

Red Wings' White Picks Up Two Helpers

News: Ian White picked up two assists in the Red Wings' victory over the Blackhawks on Saturday.
Analysis: Ian White is not a big scorer, but he has three assists in his last two games and currently owns an impressive plus-23 rating, partially due to his own fine play and partially due to being primarily paired with Nicklas Lidstrom all season.

White Strong In Wings' Win

News: Ian White posted two assists in Tuesday's 3-2 win over St. Louis, giving him four points in the last four games.
Analysis: Ian White remains a solid option on your blue line, even moreso in leagues that count plus-minus, as his plus-25 is near the top of the league for all skaters. He has 19 points on the season in 32 games.

Wings' White Paired With Nicklas Lidstrom Wednesday

News: Ian White (fractured cheekbone) will be in the lineup and paired with Nicklas Lidstrom against Calgary on Wednesday night, MLive.com reports.

Red Wings' White To Return Wednesday

News: Ian White (face) will be activated from injured reserve prior to Wednesday's game against the Flames, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Ian White will be back on the blue line Wednesday after missing the last four games with a broken cheekbone. Not regularly a fantasy contributor, White was surprisingly effective this month before the injury, picking up four points (1G, 3A) and a plus-six rating in six games.

Wings Place White On IR

News: Ian White (fractured cheekbone) was placed on IR, according to the team's official site.
Analysis: It's likely that the move was made Saturday to accommodate the return of Todd Bertuzzi from IR. Nevertheless, Brendan Smith will remain with the big club in Ian White's absence and White's timetable for a return still points to some point soon after the conclusion of the team's current four-game road trip.

Wings' White Out At Least Four Games

News: Ian White will miss the Wings' upcoming four-game road trip with a fractured cheek bone, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: It's no guarantee that Ian White will land on IR, but a move will come down Monday to clear space on the active roster for Brendan Smith. For those in deeper formats where blueliners are difficult to come by, Smith could be a serviceable short-term pickup if the Wings choose to use him over Mike Commodore upon the completion of his suspension Tuesday night.

Detroit's White Injured Saturday

News: Ian White was hit under the eye blocking a shot Saturday. He left the game for stitches and didn't return, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Ian White has had a great start to his Red Wings career as Nik Lidstrom's partner, with seven points and a plus-8 rating through 15 games, which includes a goal he scored in Saturday's win. The Wings are off until Tuesday, so White has some time to heal up.

Detroit's White Fitting In With Red Wings

News: Ian White is finding success in the Motor City with three points in four games, including two goals.
Analysis: Detroit's newest blueliner was brought in to replace Brain Rafalski, and those are some big skates to fill. He's played impressive hockey with the red-hot wings so far, who are perfect through four.

Wings Pair White With Nicklas Lidstrom

News: Ian White will begin training camp on the top blue-line pairing with Nicklas Lidstrom, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: A right-handed shot, Ian White should provide a nice complement to Lidstrom while the pairing would undoubtedly give the 27-year-old a great deal of sleeper potential if it holds up into the regular season. The Wings signed White this summer in hopes of using him to recoup some of the lost offensive production from the backend with the retirement of Brian Rafalski.

White Signs With Red Wings

News: White agreed to a two-year, $5.75 million contract with the Red Wings on Saturday, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: The signing of White solidifies the Red Wings' blue line, with seven defensemen now guaranteed to make the roster next season. White is a bit small for a defenseman, but he plays bigger than his size and will also help out on power play.
