Sabres, Benoit Agree To One-Year Deal

News: Andre Benoit signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Sabres on Wednesday, TSN's Aaron Ward reports.
Analysis: Andre Benoit, 30, logged 79 games with the Avalanche last season, accumulating 28 points and 26 PIM. The blue line was a major area of weakness in the Sabres' dismal 2013-14 campaign, and the additions of Benoit, Josh Gorges and Andrej Meszaros over the summer should only improve the team on that side of the ice during the upcoming season. Also expect the 30-year-old to mentor some of Buffalo's top young defensemen, including Rasmus Ristolainen, Nikita Zadorov, Chad Ruhwedel and Mark Pysyk.

Avs' D-Man Benoit Lights The Lamp Again

News: Andre Benoit scored again Sunday, notching his sixth of the year as the Avs handed Ottawa a 3-1 loss.
Analysis: After lighting the lamp just twice in his first 56 games in the Bergundy and Blue, Benny has racked up an eye-opening four goals in the last nine games. Before this year, he had only played in 41 NHL games, recording 11 points in the process. By contrast, in his first full NHL season with the Avalanche, he has put up a respectable 24 points in 66 games - third among Avs defencemen behind Erik Johnson and rookie Tyson Barrie. Most notably, while paying his dues in 319 AHL games, he scored at a rate of 0.54 points-per game with 173 in 319 games. In short, the 5'11 blueliner should be on your radar for next year and could be worth an immediate add if you're hurting on the back end.

Avs’ Benoit Overtime Hero Thursday

News: Andre Benoit tallied the overtime winner with 32 seconds left Thursday as the Avs grounded the Red Wings 3-2.
Analysis: Andre Benoit has found twine twice in the last four games, doubling his goal total from two to four on the year. Chalk this up to little more than an anomaly due to the fact that Avs blueliners are hitting the scoresheet at an unsustainable pace - 17 points in the last five games, to be exact. Coupled with the elevated play of Erik Johnson and the emergence of Tyson Barrie, Benoit will have little chance of moving up the Avs depth chart, limiting his power-play time and subsequent scoring chances.

Avs' Benoit Scratched Sunday

News: Andre Benoit is expected to be scratched for Sunday's game against the Lightning.
Analysis: With the Avalanche blue line corps seemingly healthy again, Andre Benoit has become expendable as of late. It is unclear as to whether or not he'll remain a healthy scratch for long or if the team will send him to the AHL.

Avs' Benoit Takes Minus-3 In Loss

News: Andre Benoit was held off the scoresheet and finished with a minus-3 rating in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Andre Benoit was one of five Avalanche skaters to finish with a minus-3 rating or worse in this one, demonstrating the extent to which the Rangers thoroughly outplayed them. Since Benoit has a rather pedestrian two goals and 17 assists over 55 games on the season, fantasy owners can't afford to have the blueliner take these kinds of hits to his plus/minus rating when he provide little production elsewhere to compensate.

Avs' Benoit Warming Up Again

News: Andre Benoit may be warming up again. He set up two goals Saturday and has six assists in his last seven games.
Analysis: That's 18 points in 44 games for the otherwise journeyman defender. He's probably on the wire if you need short-term help.

Avs' Benoit Has Career Game In Win

News: Andre Benoit had a career-best three points in Friday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Andre Benoit shook off a shot to the face early in the second period to return with a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and off goalie Mike Smith's back for his first goal of the season. He would later be credited with assists on the game-tying and game-winning goals to cap off a performance to remember.

Colorado's Benoit To Return Tuesday

News: Andre Benoit will play in Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Andre Benoit sat out Saturday's game due to a wrist injury, but he will be back among Colorado's blue line corps Tuesday night. Benoit has recorded no goals and seven assists in 18 games with the Avalanche this season.

Avs' Benoit To Sit Saturday With Wrist Injury

News: Andre Benoit will miss Saturday's game against the Panthers with a wrist injury, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avalanche maintain that Andre Benoit's injury isn't serious, so it's possible he misses just one game with the ailment. He'll aim to return to the lineup for a crucial showdown Tuesday vs. the Blackhawks.

Benoit On Avs' First Defensive Pairing

News: Andre Benoit is tentatively slated to be matched with Erik Johnson on the Avs' first defensive pairing to begin the season, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Andre Benoit is more of a stay-at-home defenseman, though his production went up a little with Ottawa last year. This at least could bump up his ice time from his 16:25/game average from last season.

Benoit Activated For Ottawa Loss

News: Andre Benoit was inserted into the Ottawa lineup for the suspended Eric Gryba for Ottawa's Game 2 loss to Montreal on Friday, according to NHL.com's Arpon Basu. He played 12:35 and assisted on Ottawa's only goal.
Analysis: Most expected Patrick Wiercioch to play in Gryba's place, but it was Andre Benoit who got the call. Odds are Benoit will stay in the lineup at least one more game while Gryba finishes serving his suspension and then Benoit will go back to being a scratch for Game 4.

Ottawa's Benoit Gets Second Career Goal

News: Andre Benoit notched his second career goal Thursday against New York.
Analysis: Andre Benoit had a career night Thursday against New York. He scored his second NHL goal and saw 22:00 on ice, a career best. That's great if you were playing him, but you aren't playing him.

Sens Sign Benoit

News: Andre Benoit signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Friday, the team's official Twitter page reports.
Analysis: The 28-year-old defenseman spent last season playing in Moscow, but he'll likely begin the 2012-13 campaign in the AHL. Andre Benoit has logged just eight games at the top level, but he put up 55 points (11G, 44A) in 73 AHL games two seasons ago.

News: Ottawa recalled Benoit, along with four other players, from Binghamton on Thursday morning reports the club's web site.

Benoit Demoted By Sens

News: The Senators have re-assigned Benoit to AHL Binghamton, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: David Hale, Patrick Wiercioch, Erik Condra and Roman Wick were also sent down, so perhaps the quintet can share a cab from the airport to the rink for Wednesday's home game against Norfolk.

Benoit Demoted By Sens

News: The Senators have reassigned Benoit to AHL Binghamton, the team's official site reports.

Sens Recall Benoit From AHL

News: Ottawa has recalled Benoit from its AHL affiliate in Binghamton reports Sportsnet's Ian Mendes.

Sens Recall Benoit From AHL

News: Ottawa has recalled Benoit from its AHL affiliate in Binghamton reports the club's web site.
Analysis: With Matt Carkner (knee) likely out for the rest of the season, Benoit should get a decent amount of ice time, but don't expect his AHL numbers to carry over into this most recent stint as he'll likely play on Ottawa's second power play unit.
