Bernier Will Not Return To Devils Next Season

News: The Devils will not attempt to re-sign Steve Bernier in the offseason, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Despite tying career bests in goals (16) and assists (16) in 2014-15, the Devils have no interest in re-signing Steve Bernier in the offseason. Although he's only 30 years old, the Devils may be looking to get younger across the board, which means Bernier will be in search of a new team for the 2015-16 campaign. He shouldn't have too much trouble finding a suitor, however, as there are plenty of teams who could use a veteran forward like Bernier who can still put the puck in the net on a semi-regular basis.

Bernier Scores Two For Devils

News: Steve Bernier posted his second straight multi-point game Thursday, scoring two goals -- one on the power play -- in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: One heck of a burst at the end of the year here for Steve Bernier, who's now set a new career best with 16 goals and matched his career-high 32 points. He'll get a chance to establish a new career points mark Saturday in the season finale against Florida.

Two Points For Devils' Bernier

News: Steve Bernier scored a goal and picked up a power-play assist Tuesday in a loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: With that, Steve Bernier's now hit 30 points for the first time since 2008-09 with Vancouver. It's a nice offensive year by his standards, but his fantasy value remains slender outside of deep leagues.

Devils' Bernier Strikes Twice In Win

News: Steve Bernier potted two goals in Friday's win over Buffalo.
Analysis: That's 12 goals and 26 points in 56 games for Steve Bernier, who's been skating on the top line with Adam Henrique and Scott Gomez. While he's producing of late, the 29-year-old rarely shoots the puck, managing just 84 shots on goal all season. He's a decent secondary scorer, but having never surpassed the 15-goal mark in his career, the inconsistent Bernier is valuable in only deeper formats.

Devils' Bernier Adds Two More Assists Tuesday

News: Steve Bernier picked up two assists in Tuesday's loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Steve Bernier has recorded six assists in his last four games, a rather shocking development from a player who has never tallied more than 32 points in a season. The Devils' desperate need for top-six talent has opened the door for Bernier to earn increased work on scoring lines, and to his credit, he's been able to take advantage thus far. Even so, his modest season totals of 10 goals and 24 points over 52 games still limits his value to deeper formats at this time.

Devils' Bernier Sets Up Three In Win

News: Steve Bernier provided three assists -- one on the power play -- in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: The trio of helpers came at a good time for Steve Bernier as he had collected just one point in his last nine games after a hot scoring stretch. The 29-year-old eclipsed the 20-point mark for the sixth time in his career, and is just 10 points away from tying his career-high 32 points. While he may be able to reach that plateau, the winger doesn't provide consistent enough production for fantasy owners outside of deeper formats.

Devils' Bernier: Seven Goals In Last 12 Games

News: Steve Bernier scored the Devils' lone goal in Saturday's loss to the Predators. It came on the power play.
Analysis: He's actually been providing decent fantasy production in his last 12 games. He has eight points, including seven goals, in that span. That's pretty good considering he has just three goals in his previous 29 games. Use him if you need some scoring depth.

Devils' Bernier Tallies Another Goal in Victory

News: Steve Bernier scored his ninth goal of the season in the Devils' 4-1 victory over the Maple Leafs Friday.
Analysis: Steve Bernier, who has three goals and an assist over his last five games, now has 17 points in 37 games played this season. Bernier has a shot at breaking his previous career-high of 32 points this year. He could be worth a short-term flyer in deep leagues if he keeps up his recent scoring uptick.

Devils' Bernier Tallies Two Points In Win

News: Steve Bernier scored an empty-net goal and had an assist in Saturday's win over the Panthers.
Analysis: Steve Bernier has picked it up of late, recording five goals and six points in his last six games. The third-liner, who has never surpassed 32 points in his career, is valuable in some very deep leagues. Considering Bernier averages just 11:31 of ice time and is known for being inconsistent, don't expect him to keep producing at this recent pace for much longer.

Two Goals For Devils' Bernier

News: Steve Bernier found twine twice in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Kings. He also fired six shots on goal, a season high.
Analysis: An unlikely source of scoring. These were Steve Bernier's fourth and fifth goals of the season, bringing his point total to 12 in 30 games this year.

Devils' Bernier Will Play Tuesday

News: Steve Bernier (hip) will play in Tuesday's game against the Sabres, Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Steve Bernier will return to action after sitting out the Devils' last two games. He will likely line up as part of the fourth line Tuesday night.

Devils' Bernier (Hip) Out Saturday

News: Steve Bernier (hip) will not play Saturday against the Flyers.
Analysis: A game-time call coming in, Steve Bernier will watch from the press box Saturday, marking his second straight absence. The 29-year-old winger has chipped in three goals and seven assists in 28 games so far this season.

Devils' Bernier A Game-Time Decision Saturday

News: Steve Bernier (hip) will be a game-time decision for Saturday's tilt with the Flyers, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Steve Bernier took part in an optional skating session Saturday morning, but GM Lou Lamoriello said the team would wait until the afternoon before deciding on his status. The winger was scratched for Friday's game against the Canadiens with the injury.

Return Won't Come Friday For Devils' Bernier

News: Steve Bernier (hip) will not return to action Friday against the Canadiens, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Though Steve Bernier was viewed as a candidate to play Friday after taking part in the morning skate, the Devils will have the luxury of giving him an extra day to rest with several of the team's ill forwards returning to action. It sounds like Bernier avoided a potentially catastrophic injury after he fell victim to a nerve issue with his hip late in Wednesday's game, perhaps making him an option to play Saturday against the Flyers.

Devils' Bernier (Hip) Could Play Friday

News: Steve Bernier (hip) was on the ice for the Devils' morning skate and hasn't been ruled out as a lineup option Friday versus the Canadiens, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Steve Bernier revealed Friday that he had been removed from the Devils' game Wednesday versus the Red Wings due to a nerve issue in his left hip that resulted in him temporarily losing feeling in his leg. The Devils seemed to be bracing for a lengthy absence for Bernier, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards after X-rays indicated the issue wasn't anything serious. It still seems more likely than not that the Devils will hold him out Friday as a precaution if nothing else, but fortunately, it looks like the team is treating him as day-to-day rather than out indefinitely.

Devils' Bernier: X-Rays On Tap, May Be Serious

News: Steve Bernier had to be helped off the ice late in Wednesday's game against the Red Wings after attempting a check on defender Brendan Smith and slamming into the boards. He suffered an apparent left hip injury, according to NJ.com. "We're going to have to take him to get an X-ray. It's not good, I can tell you that," said coach and general manager, Lou Lamoriello. "Unfortunately, I think it's fairly serious."
Analysis: He was down for a while before teammates helped him off. He's one tough ombre, so you know it's bad when he goes down and stays there. He was able to leave the Devils' dressing room on his own after the game, although he was limping noticeably. X-rays will reveal more.

Devils' Bernier Grabs Two Helpers

News: Steve Bernier picked up the primary assists on both the Devils' goals Tuesday in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: That's the second two-point effort in four games for the grinding depth forward. While it's of some minor note that he's on his best scoring pace in years, that's just seven points in 18 games, so his fantasy value remains quite limited.

Rare Outburst For Devils' Bernier

News: Steve Bernier scored a goal and added an assist in Thursday's 5-3 win over Toronto.
Analysis: The goal was the grinding winger's second of the year and first in nearly a month, dating back to Nov. 7. He's much more useful on the ice for the Devils than in fantasy lineups.

Devils' Bernier Grabs First Goal

News: Steve Bernier scored his first goal of the season in Friday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Recalled by the Devils on Monday, Steve Bernier has played in each of the team's three games this week, accumulating two points. He's seen his minutes rise with each subsequent contest, but he seems unlikely to be elevated much higher than his current position on the Devils' third line.

Devils Recall Bernier

News: The Devils recalled Steve Bernier from AHL Albany on Monday, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: The Devils recalled Steve Bernier to take the place of Reid Boucher, who was sent down Monday. Bernier is expected to skate with Stephen Gionta and Tuomo Ruutu.

Devils Place Bernier On Waivers

News: The Devils placed Steve Bernier on waivers Monday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Steve Bernier appeared in 78 games with the Devils last season and re-signed with New Jersey during the offseason, but the Devils' depth up front cost him a spot on the Opening Night roster. Bernier could be claimed off waivers, but if he does not, he will report to AHL Albany.

Devils Retain Bernier

News: Steve Bernier re-signed with the Devils on a one-year, $600,000 contract Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Thus Steve Bernier is set to return for his fourth season as a depth forward for New Jersey. He recorded three goals and nine assists in 78 games last season.

Devils' Bernier To Return Saturday

News: Steve Bernier is expected to play Saturday against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Steve Bernier was a recent healthy scratch and hasn't produced much on the offensive front. He hasn't registered a point since an assist on March 2 and he hasn't scored a goal since December 2, 2013. He'll get back on the ice, but he is not recommended.

Devils' Bernier Back At Practice

News: Steve Bernier (personal) returned to practice Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Steve Bernier's return to practice means he'll be good to go for Thursday's matchup with the Blue Jackets. The winger currently has three goals and seven assists in 59 games.

Bernier Misses New Jersey's Practice Tesday

News: Steve Bernier missed practice Tuesday for personal reasons, The Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: It remains to be seen whether Steve Bernier will suit up Thursday against Columbus, but with 10 points and a minus-15 rating in 59 games to date, he's only a fantasy option in deeper formats.
