Retirement Imminent For Hawks' Carcillo

News: Daniel Carcillo told Kap and Haugh of WGN Radio on Wednesday that he's "about 98 percent ready to move on" from professional hockey.
Analysis: The news isn't especially surprising after the Chicago Tribune reported earlier this month that Daniel Carcillo was focusing his offseason efforts on establishing a not-for-profit organization for post-career NHL players. Carcillo's rough-around-the-edges game doesn't really fit well in the modern NHL, which has resulted in him receiving limited interest in free agency this summer. Unless the 30-year-old has a change of heart once training camps start up in September, expect him to formally announce his retirement at some point in the near future.

Has Former Hawk Carcillo Played His Last Game?

News: Daniel Carcillo has spent his offseason on establishing Chapter 5, a not-for-profit organization that will help NHL players adjust to life after hockey, rather than on getting a new contract, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo was profoundly affected by the death of his close friend Steve Montador and has made establishing the not-for-profit more important than playing again. He hasn't even spoken to his agent recently: "He called me the other day. I'll return his call soon. I'm not stressing out about it like I have in years past." Carcillo was one of the NHL's last remaining quasi-enforcers and the game has already changed around him. His days in the NHL may actually be over and it sounds like he's taking it all in stride.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Cleared To Play

News: Daniel Carcillo (concussion) has medical clearance to play for the Blackhawks during their second-round series with the Wild, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo's best skill is his ability to fight, and with the enforcer role typically diminished during the playoffs, coach Joel Quenneville probably doesn't have much reason to use the winger. Even though he's healthy, Carcillo might not get a chance to play until Quenneville becomes displeased with the performance of one of the Blackhawks' current crew of bottom-six forwards.

Hawks' Carcillo Had Concussion

News: Daniel Carcillo confirmed that he has been sidelined by a concussion, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo rejoined the Hawks this week, but at this stage, it's still unclear when he might return to the team's lineup.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Skates Tuesday

News: Daniel Carcillo (upper body) was a participant in Tuesday's morning skate, NHL.com's Brian Hedger reports.
Analysis: Carcilllo is still awaiting medical clearance to play, but believes that could come as soon as Wednesday. The winger will sit out his 13th straight game Tuesday, with his last appearance coming March 26. It appears unlikely at this stage that he'll be able to draw back into the Blackhawks' lineup before the first-round matchup with the Predators concludes.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Still Not Skating

News: Daniel Carcillo (upper body) has yet to resume skating, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: At this point, it appears doubtful that Daniel Carcillo will make an appearance for the Blackhawks during their first-round series with the Predators. The tough winger hasn't appeared in a game since suffering the injury March 26 against the Flyers.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Still Out

News: Daniel Carcillo (upper body) will remain out of the lineup Tuesday against the Wild, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo will miss his seventh straight game with the injury, and there's no clear indication on when he might be due to return. Those hoping for help in the PIM and hits categories from Carcillo over the final week of the regular season should go ahead and explore other options.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Out Friday

News: Daniel Carcillo (upper body) will not play Friday against the Blue Jackets, Tracey Myers of CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo wasn't present for Friday's morning skate after suffering the injury two days ago against the Flyers, so it appears safe to rule him out for the game. Teuvo Teravainen will enter the lineup in Carcillo's place.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Has Upper-Body Injury

News: Daniel Carcillo is dealing with an upper-body injury and is being listed as day-to-day, ESPN Chicago's Scott Powers reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo was absent from Thursday's practice after likely sustaining the injury in Wednesday's game against the Flyers. The rugged winger, who has produced eight points in 39 games this season, is uncertain to be ready to play in time for Friday's tilt with the Blue Jackets.

Hawks' Carcillo Might Skate Sunday

News: Daniel Carcillo, who did not skate against the Avalanche on Friday as he was attending the funeral of late teammate Steve Montador, might be back in the lineup on Sunday against the Bruins, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Before missing Friday's game, Daniel Carcillo had been a healthy scratch for a pair of games. Hawks' coach Joel Quenneville and other Blackhawks complained about the lackluster play by the team on Friday in the 4-1 loss to the Avalanche so they might be hoping to get a boost of adrenaline from Carcillo. Despite being in and out of the lineup, Carcillo has actually had his best scoring season since 2011-12. He has four goals and four assists in 36 games this season to go along with 34 hits and seven blocks. Carcillo though only has an assist since Dec. 13.

Hawks' Carcillo Expected To Skate Sunday

News: Daniel Carcillo, who returned to the lineup Friday after a suspension and a healthy scratch held him out for seven games, is expected to stay in for Sunday's matinee game at St. Louis, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo skated for a little more than 10 minutes in the Blackhawks' 2-1 win over the Jets on Friday. He had a block and a hit along with a five-minute fighting penalty. Before the suspension, there was talk that Carcillo was going to be headed out of town via a trade or waived, but he has a shot at staying with the team if Hawks coach Joel Quenneville can be persuaded that his toughness is contributing to wins.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Set To Rejoin Lineup

News: Daniel Carcillo will rejoin the lineup for Friday's game against the Jets, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo recently served a six-game suspension, and he was then a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game in Minnesota. His return to the lineup will push Joakim Nordstrom to the press box.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Likely Scratch

News: Daniel Carcillo is expected to be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Wild, Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo is eligible to return from his six-game suspension, but he didn't skate with the top four lines during Tuesday's morning skate, which indicates that he'll be scratched.

Hawks' Carcillo Suspended Six Games

News: Daniel Carcillo has been suspended for six games for cross-checking Mathieu Perreault of the Jets on Friday, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Given that Daniel Carcillo sat out Chicago's Sunday contest in advance of his hearing with the NHL, the forward's suspension will now run through the Blackhawks' next five games, which makes him eligible to return to action on Feb. 3.

Chicago's Carcillo Out Of Lineup On Sunday

News: Daniel Carcillo (knee) won't play Sunday against the Stars, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo, who faces a likely suspension for his cross-check on the Jets' Mathieu Perreault on Friday, will take a seat Sunday, with Joakim Nordstrom set to enter the Chicago lineup in his place.

Suspension Likely Looming For Chicago's Carcillo

News: Daniel Carcillo has been offered an in-person hearing for his cross check on the Jets' Mathieu Perreault in Friday's loss, according to the NHL's Department of Player Safety.
Analysis: Perreault appears to be at risk of missing multiple games as a result of the hit from Daniel Carcillo, who looks like he'll be kept out of some upcoming games as a form of retribution by the league. It certainly doesn't bode well for the Blackhawks' fourth-liner that he's being invited for an in-person visit, as those types of arrangements often signify lengthier suspensions. Carcillo has a history of crossing the line on the ice, as he was previously docked six games just last postseason with the Rangers due to physical abuse of an official.

Hawks' Carcillo Back In The Lineup Thursday

News: Daniel Carcillo, who was a healthy scratch for the Blackhawks the last two games, returns to the lineup Thursday in Minnesota, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Before the two games as a healthy scratch, Daniel Carcillo logged less than double digits in ice time for the previous four games. A similar fate likely awaits him again, as he'll skate on the Blackhawks' checking line.

Hawks' Carcillo Expected Not In Lineup Sunday

News: Daniel Carcillo is expected to not be in the lineup on Sunday night against the Stars as the Blackhawks go with Joakim Nordstrom on the fourth line, NBC Chicago reports.
Analysis: The luster is off the shine with Daniel Carcillo's return to the Blackhawks. It started out well, but lately he's had a hard time getting on the ice. He has not reached double figures in minutes for the last four games, averaging a little less than six minutes in each game of ice time. Carcillo still has four goals and three assists in 28 games and gives the Blackhawks some toughness on the ice.

Hawks' Carcillo Back With Team

News: Daniel Carcillo returned to Colorado and will be skating with the Hawks on Wednesday night after being in Chicago for the birth of his child, CSN Chicago reports.
Analysis: While Daniel Carcillo will not register significant points, he is key to the Blackhawks offense because of his physical play. In 11 games this season Carcillo has two goals and one assists with 11 hits and a pair of blocks. He recently returned to the lineup after missing three weeks because of a knee injury.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Returns To The Ice

News: Daniel Carcillo, who missed three weeks because of a knee injury, got back on the ice on Sunday and skated a little less than nine minutes in the Blackhawks' 6-2 win over the Stars.
Analysis: Before the injury Daniel Carcillo had between six to nine minutes of ice time so Sunday's outings is pretty much what you are going to get with him. He contributed three shots on goal, a block and two hits along two penalty minutes on Sunday. Carcillo is something that the Blackhawks need with his physical play.

Blackhawks' Carcillo Will Play Sunday

News: Daniel Carcillo (knee) will return to action Sunday against the Stars, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Saturday's demotion of Peter Regin to AHL Rockford signals that Daniel Carcillo will reclaim his spot in the Blackhawks' bottom six after a three-week absence. Carcillo had one goal and collected two penalty minutes over his seven games prior to suffering the injury.

Hawks' Carcillo Still On Track For Sunday Return

News: Daniel Carcillo (knee) remains on track to return to the lineup Sunday against the Stars, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo has continued to make progress in practices over the last few days to ensure the Blackhawks that he's day-to-day at this point. His participation in Sunday's morning skate figures to represent the final hurdle he needs to clear before the Blackhawks reinsert him on their fourth line.

Hawks' Carcillo Could Play Sunday

News: Daniel Carcillo (knee) is making excellent progress in his recovery and could return to the lineup as soon as Sunday's game against the Stars, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo resumed skating a couple days ago and joined the Blackhawks on the ice for Tuesday's morning session, an activity that he wasn't expected to take part in for at least another week. He'll likely attempt to increase his involvement in practice over the next couple of days in order to receive the go-ahead to return over the weekend. Once Carcillo is fully healthy, Peter Regin will likely be forced to head back to AHL Rockford.

Chicago's Carcillo Expected To Resume Skating Soon

News: Daniel Carcillo (knee) is expected to resume skating in the next few days, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: It's just an initial step in the recovery process for Daniel Carcillo, who has been out since Oct. 25 with the injury to his right knee. The Blackhawks are still projecting Carcillo to miss four weeks of action with the injury, putting him on target for a return in late November.

Hawks' Carcillo (Knee) To Miss Four Weeks

News: Coach Joel Quenneville announced Sunday that Daniel Carcillo will likely miss four weeks, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Daniel Carcillo was expected to miss at least two weeks, and it now appears he could miss at least double that time. Coach Quenneville initially said his absence would be weeks, not months, but something must have revealed a longer time span. The updated timeable sets his return for the end of November.
