Klein's Role Unchanged With Rangers

News: Kevin Klein registered four points and plus-7 rating in 25 postseason games.
Analysis: The 29-year-old is a mostly durable third-pairing blueliner with a club-friendly ($2.9 million) deal already in place over the next three seasons. Kevin Klein's role with the Rangers was similar (though with less ice time) to the one he had in Nashville before being traded. He totaled two goals, eight assists and a plus-11 rating in 55 games (including the postseason) with the Rangers.

Klein Contributing To Rangers' Playoff Push

News: Kevin Klein logged an assist during Sunday's 3-1 win over Pittsburgh in Game 6.
Analysis: That's two points in as many games and while it's not likely for the sixth defenseman to sustain his recent offensive contributions, it's clear his trade to the Blueshirts will slightly increase his fantasy value heading into next year's draft.

Klein Solidifying Rangers' Third Pair

News: Kevin Klein registered four hits and two blocked shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: As the new guy on New York's point, Kevin Klein logged just over 16 minutes in his Blueshirts' playoff debut. Considering he's not likely to serve on the team's power play, Klein is doing well flying under the radar and solidifying the defense. While he'll never bring home the bacon offensively, prior to being traded Klein had registered nine points (three goals) in 28 career playoff games for Nashville.

Klein Nets First Goal With Rangers

News: Kevin Klein scored his first goal -- and point -- as a Ranger in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Carolina.
Analysis: Kevin Klein had gone scoreless over 13 games since being traded to New York, and he had only three points in 47 games with Nashville before that. Needless to say, don't get too excited about this one.

Rangers' Klein Familiar With Blackhawks

News: Kevin Klein has yet to register a point in seven games with his new team.
Analysis: This should come as no surprise as the the 29-year-old is known more for his defense first approach. Kevin Klein is likely to continue logging third-pairing minutes with John Moore in the team's first game back from the Olympic break on Thursday against Chicago. Klein has three goals and eight assists through 33 career games against his former division rival Blackhawks.

Rangers Trade For Klein

News: Kevin Klein was traded to the Rangers on Wednesday in exchange for Michael Del Zotto, Darren Dreger of TSN reports.
Analysis: The Rangers bolstered their blue line Wednesday by picking up the solid defender. Kevin Klein has a goal and two assists in 47 games this season, and should fit well as a stay-at-home defenseman in the Rangers' system.

Preds' Klein Out With Illness

News: Kevin Klein is currently out with an unspecified illness, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: So far, Kevin Klein has missed missed two games - Thursday's win over the Flyers and Saturday's loss to the Avalanche. At this point, there is no word whether he will travel on the Preds' upcoming road trip that starts Monday in Dallas. Consider him day-to-day for the time being.

Predators' Klein Scores First Of Season

News: Kevin Klein scored his first goal of the season in Friday's 4-1 loss to Dallas.
Analysis: Though Kevin Klein isn't known for his offense, he has struggled this season, collecting only two points in 36 games to go alongside a minus-10 rating. He may be valuable when it comes to defensive categories such as blocked shots, but don't expect much else from the 29-year-old.

Preds' Klein Returning Thursday

News: Kevin Klein (lower body) will return to the lineup Thursday against the Hurricanes, Nick Cole of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: The Predators had previously indicated earlier this week that Kevin Klein would miss two weeks with the lower-body injury, but it appears that timetable was grossly overestimated. Klein sat out just two games and will now draw back into the lineup, with defenseman Joe Piskula returning to AHL Milwaukee.

Predators' Klein Out At Least Two Weeks

News: Kevin Klein will miss at least two weeks with a lower-body injury, Josh Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: It is uncertain when he sustained the injury, but it is significant enough for Kevin Klein to miss extended time. He will miss at least two weeks then will be evaluated again at that point. He will likely be placed on IR at some point to free up a roster spot for an extra skater on defense.

Predators' Klein: Lower-Body Injury

News: The Predators announced Saturday that Kevin Klein is currently dealing with a lower-body injury, Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean reports.
Analysis: There's no word on how the injury occurred or even the exact nature, but it would seem that he is unlikely to play Saturday against the Flyers. At best, he would be a game-time decision.

Preds' Klein Hitting, Blocking, But Not Scoring

News: Kevin Klein has just a single assist in 22 games this season, however he still ranks fourth on the team in ice time with 20:34 per game.
Analysis: Kevin Klein's value to the Preds is measured in more than goals and assists, as he currently leads the team in blocked shots with 54 (putting him in the top 10 in the NHL in that category), and he's fourth in hits with 36. If your fantasy league rewards for these secondary stat categories, Klein could be of value to you - otherwise, he's ballast.

Slow Start To Season For Preds' Klein

News: Kevin Klein has zero points through six games so far this season for the Preds, along with a -2 rating.
Analysis: Never a big scorer, Kevin Klein's true fantasy value normally lies in the more defensive stat categories like blocked shots, where he has been a team leader the past few seasons. Don't expect much out of him other than that.

New Blue Line Partner For Preds' Klein

News: Kevin Klein is expected to open the season on the second defensive pairing alongside rookie Seth Jones, the Tennessean reports.
Analysis: This does not change Kevin Klein's role on the team one bit, as his stay-at-home style will allow the more offensive-minded Jones more of a chance to jump into the rush. In contrast, Klein tends to spend more time killing penalties and blocking shots, so his fantasy value remains limited to deeper formats only.

Preds' Klein Returns Following Foot Injury

News: Kevin Klein returned to the lineup Friday against Chicago following a one-game absence due to a foot injury. He saw his usual 21-plus minutes of ice time and added an assist.
Analysis: Kevin Klein is still more of a stay-at-home defenseman than one who jumps into the rush, so you need to make sure your league rewards for defensive categories like blocked shots (Klein leads the Preds with 86) before owning him.

Preds' Klein Close To Returning From Foot Injury

News: Kevin Klein (foot) skated Wednesday, according to the Tennessean. "I just had to settle down. It's good now," Klein said.
Analysis: Sounds like Kevin Klein, who suffered the injury Sunday against Detroit and missed Monday's game against Vancouver, could play Friday at Chicago. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Preds' Klein Out Monday

News: Kevin Klein (unspecified injury) won't play Monday against the Canucks, according to Josh Cooper of The Tennessean.
Analysis: With Kevin Klein, who has 12 points in 43 games to date, out of the lineup, the Preds have recalled Mattias Ekholm to fill in.

Preds' Klein Focusing On Blocking Shots, Not Scoring

News: Kevin Klein has just a single assist in his past 15 games, and boasts just six points on the season thus far (1G, 5A).
Analysis: Kevin Klein notched a career-high 21 points in 66 games last year, so expectations may have been a little high for him coming into this season. The reality is, he's always been more of a defensive specialist than a scorer, as his team-leading 50 blocked shots will attest. Keep using Klein as you normally would, but don't expect too much more from him as far as traditional scoring categories are concerned.

Preds' Klein Skips Practice

News: Kevin Klein missed practice Friday to "take a bit of a breather," reports The Tennessean.
Analysis: This doesn't sound like anything to worry about; it sounds like coach Barry Trotz just gave Kevin Klein and two other shot-blocking defensemen (Hal Gill and Scott Hannan) the day off. Klein is second on the Preds in blocked shots with 15. Klein is not usually much of a scorer though he did notch four goals last season along with 17 assists, so he does have some fantasy potential.

Predators Extend Klein

News: Kevin Klein signed a five-year, $14.5 million extension with the Predators, the Nashville Tennessean reports.
Analysis: Kevin Klein had a career-high 21 points last season despite playing only 66 games, and somehow managed to spend only four minutes in the penalty box. All of that was nice, but he still finished they year with a plus/minus of minus-9 despite playing on a Nashville squad that finished the year with a plus-27 goal differential.

Klein Sets Up Two In Preds' Win

News: Kevin Klein finished the regular season on a high note, registering two assists during Saturday's 6-1 mugging of the Avalanche.
Analysis: Kevin Klein set a new personal best with 21 points this year (4G, 17A), but finished with a minus-8 rating, something the Preds will expect him to work on next season since providing offense is not first on his to-do list.

Preds' Klein (Upper Body) Returns To Lineup

News: Kevin Klein (upper body) returned to the lineup for Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Kevin Klein played 16:57, including 2:52 on the penalty kill, and finished the game a plus-1. "He was OK, I thought he looked a little sluggish in the first (period)," coach Barry Trotz said of Klein. "That's what happens when you miss a couple of games, you get your feet under you a bit. I thought he was fine after that." Klein looks good to go from a fantasy standpoint going forward.

Preds' Klein (Upper Body) Targeting Saturday Return

News: Kevin Klein (upper body) could return to the lineup Saturday, according to the Tennessean.
Analysis: Kevin Klein missed his eighth straight game Thursday at San Jose, but took part in the morning skate and said afterwards, "If there's no setbacks I can see myself playing Saturday [at Los Angeles]." Keep him on your fantasy bench until you see his name in a boxscore.

Preds' Klein Not Practicing Wednesday

News: Kevin Klein (upper body) was not on the ice for practice on Wednesday, the Tennessean's Joshua Cooper reports.
Analysis: This is not a good sign for his chances to play in San Jose on Thursday night, but nothing has been made official yet.
