Analysis: Stone will continue to rehabilitate a serious knee injury that he sustained last March.

Flames' Stone Put on Waivers

News: Stone was put on waivers Wednesday, Bob McKenzie of TSN Canada reports.
Analysis: Stone recently began skating again after a knee injury left him sidelined for about eight months. If he passes through waivers, he will go to the Flames' AHL affiliate in an effort to finish rehabilitation.

Stone Skates with Flames

News: Stone (knee) skated with the team Monday, the Flames' official site reports.
Analysis: Stone underwent knee surgery in March and was expected to return in about six months, but obviously it's taken longer than that for him to recover. Although his presence on the ice Monday is a good sign, the Flames still have no timetable for his return.

Flames' Stone Remains Out Indefinitely

News: Stone (knee) hasn't yet begun skating and remains out indefinitely, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Stone underwent a pretty dramatic knee surgery back in March that had part of his knee replaced by the bone of another person's knee. He's behind the six-month estimate for his return. "Originally, it was supposed to be six months (to recover)," says Stone. "But, I mean, that's come and gone. It's a newer surgery - only around for 10 years or something. They put someone else's bone in my knee. It's still healing. It needs a little bit more time."

Flames' Stone Not Yet Skating

News: Stone has a knee injury and hasn't yet started skating since the injury, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: It's just the start of the preseason, but the Flames are getting hammered by injuries at the pivot right now. Among the centers also hurt include Matt Stajan, Daymond Langkow and John Armstrong.

Stone's knee flares up again

News: The Sports Xchange reports the Oilers' injury list got a little longer when Ryan Stone's knee flared up, sending him to the sidelines to await the results of an impending MRI. He'd been back for 19 games after missing 19 games because of arthroscopic surgery on the same knee, and now something else is hurting in there. "It was getting sorer and sorer, and after last game I pretty much couldn't put any weight on it," he said. "There might be some more damage to my meniscus. I think we're going to try to get an MRI next week, and we'll go from there."
Analysis: The knee had been hurting ever since Stone came back but seemed to get worse in the last couple of weeks. "There was pain and I didn't have the same jump that I had before," he said. "Last game it got really bad. If it's just another meniscus thing, then it's another quick surgery and however long to rehab." Stone has no goals and six assists in 27 games this season. Luckily for Fantasy owners, Stone isn't an important player. Continue to ignore him.

Stone nets assist, 17 PIM

News: Oilers C Ryan Stone tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 on Monday against the Flames. He also racked up 17 penalty minutes. Stone did most of his damage in the third period when he got a fighting major and game misconduct. He had all of 25 penalty minutes in 19 games coming into Monday.
Analysis: Stone is seeing the most extensive action of his NHL career in 2009-10. Coach Pat Quinn loves his toughness and his energy off the lower lines. Stone is not going to light it up offensively and isn't a top enforcer either, so he has minimal Fantasy appeal until further notice.

Stone recovers from knee injury

News: Oilers C Ryan Stone (knee) returned to the lineup on Thursday against the Red Wings. Stone, who last played on Oct. 19, tallied an assist and finished at plus-2 in 8:34 of ice time. He has four assists in his last six games.
Analysis: Stone has been a good lower-line presence for Edmonton when he has been healthy this season. Still, he is not going to light up the stat sheet, so Stone has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Stone, Nilsson cleared to return

News: CHED (630 AM) out of Edmonton reports that Oilers C Ryan Stone (knee) and Robert Nilsson (concussion) are both ready to return to the lineup.
Analysis: The Oilers only play twice in Fantasy Week 9 (Nov. 30-Dec. 6), so you won't want to worry about using either of these guys in Head-to-head leagues for the scoring period. Both are just marginal Fantasy options when healthy, anyway.

Stone skates on Monday

News: Oilers forward Ryan Stone (knee) skated for the first time in a month on Monday.
Analysis: Stone has been itching to get back into the lineup and he will be a nice boost of energy for the Oilers. Still, he is not a viable part of the offensive game plan and has marginal Fantasy appeal when healthy.

Stone nearing return to action

News: The Edmonton Journal reports that Oilers C Ryan Stone (knee) is nearing a return to the ice. "I'll start throwing my body around at practice so I can clear out any (mental hurdles) before I get into a game," said Stone.
Analysis: Stone is an energy guy who loves to dish out hits. Stone has little to no Fantasy appeal when healthy.

Brule, Staios, Stone remain out

News: Oilers C Gilbert Brule (flu), D Steve Staios (concussion) and C Ryan Stone (leg) all remained out Saturday in a loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Brule is the only Fantasy-viable member of this group and should be back from his illness soon. Feel free to start him in Fantasy Week 4 (Oct. 26-Nov. 1), but continue to ignore the other two.

Stone sits out against Columbus

News: Edmonton C Ryan Stone was not active for the team's game on Thursday against Columbus. He is considered questionable for Saturday at Calgary.
Analysis: Stone has already played a career-high eight games in 2009-10. He has three assists on the season and is managing to keep his job as a lower-line forward. But we aren't expecting a lot of offense from the 2003 second-round pick. Stone has little to no Fantasy appeal when healthy.

Stone bangs up leg Monday

News: Edmonton C Ryan Stone left Monday's game against the Canucks with a leg injury and did not return. He had no points in 2:31 of ice time and finished at minus-1.
Analysis: Stone has already played a career-high eight games in 2009-10. He has three assists on the season and is managing to keep his job as a lower-line forward. But we aren't expecting a lot of offense from the 2003 second-round pick. Stone has little to no Fantasy appeal when healthy.

Stone records 2 assists Friday

News: Oilers C Ryan Stone recorded two assists on Friday night in a win over the Wild. His first assist came on a Gilbert Brule goal in the 2nd period and his second also on Brule's second goal in the 3rd period.
Analysis: Stone has three points on the season in seven games and obviously two of those points came on Friday night. Stone had played just eight NHL games the last two seasons with the Penguins and is getting more regular action this season. Still, he remains a very low-end Fantasy option.

Oilers hold onto forward Stone

News: The Edmonton Oilers signed defenseman Ladislav Smid to a two-year contract on Wednesday, and agreed to one-year, two-way deals with forwards Gilbert Brule and Ryan Stone.
Analysis: Stone, acquired with goalie Dany Sabourin from the Pittsburgh Penguins for netminder Mathieu Garon in January, had eight goals and 20 assists in 39 games with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL. Stone has played just eight NHL games the last two seasons with the Penguins. He is a former second-round pick (32nd) in 2003, but has had a very slow pro progression. It's safe to ignore him in Fantasy.

Stone brings grit to Oilers

News: The Sports Xchange reports the Oilers hope they've added some grit to the organization with forward Ryan Stone, who comes over from Pittsburgh in the Mathieu Garon trade. The 6-2, 215-pound Calgary native has never had fewer than 100 PIM's in a full season in the WHL or AHL. He also scored 33 goals once in Brandon (WHL).
Analysis: Stone has been assigned to the team's AHL affiliate and already picked up an assist and two penalty minutes in his first game. He might make it up to the NHL in the second half, but Stone isn't worth a look in Fantasy just yet. He is a developing player with solid two-way skills.

Stone traded to Oilers

News: The Pittsburgh Penguins and Edmonton Oilers each tried to shore up a weak spot by swapping backup goaltenders Saturday, with the Penguins acquiring Mathieu Garon for Dany Sabourin, minor league forward Ryan Stone and a fourth-round draft pick in 2011.
Analysis: Stone, a second-round pick by Pittsburgh in 2003, has nine goals and 19 assists in 38 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) this season. He has one assist in eight career NHL games. There is no need to own him in any Fantasy league right now.

Penguins sign three fringe forwards

News: The Pittsburgh Penguins signed forwards Kris Beech, Ryan Stone and Bill Thomas to one-year contracts on Tuesday. The 27-year-old Beech was claimed off waivers from Columbus in January. He had five goals and six assists in 25 games with the Blue Jackets and Penguins before a broken wrist ended his season on Feb. 14. The 23-year-old Stone played six games with the Penguins last season during three call-ups from the Penguins' American Hockey League team. Thomas, who played seven games for the Phoenix Coyotes last season, spent most of last season with San Antonio of the AHL.
Analysis: None of these players have any Fantasy value at this time.

Stone gets first NHL point

News: Penguins C Ryan Stone notched his first career NHL point Wednesday when he assisted in Pittsburgh's 7-3 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Stone turns 23 later this month and might have a future in the NHL, but he shouldn't be owned in any formats just at this time.

Penguins recall Stone, James

News: The Penguins have recalled forwards Ryan Stone and Connor James from the AHL.

Stone sent down to Wilkes-Barre

News: Penguins C Ryan Stone has been sent down to Wilkes-Barre of the AHL.
Analysis: Stone was expected to make the Penguins' final roster out of training camp but instead found himself in the American Hockey League as one of the team's final cuts. Stone is no Sidney Crosby, so ignore him in all formats for now.

Penguins send down Stone, two others

News: The Penguins have sent forwards Ryan Stone, Chris Minard and Tim Brent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League. Stone appeared in four games following his recall by the Penguins on Jan. 7.
Analysis: Minard and Brent each appeared in one game after being recalled on Jan. 20. Stone is nothing more than a low-end Fantasy reserve until he starts producing.
