Sens' Methot Resumes Skating

News: Marc Methot (back) was able to resume skating with his teammates Tuesday morning, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: It's a step in the right direction for Marc Methot, who had previously been limited to skating on his own while recovering from the back issue. A return to game action doesn't appear forthcoming just yet, but he might be able to start practicing by the end of the week.

Return Timetable For Senators' Methot Uncertain

News: The Senators have yet to set a target date for Marc Methot (back) to return to the ice, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot's health has improved lately, but without any sort of timeline for his return, it remains to be seen when he will make his season debut.

Sens' Methot Won't Play Tuesday

News: Marc Methot (back) is not expected to play Tuesday against Columbus, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: While Marc Methot has been making progress toward a return of late, he won't be on the ice against his former club.

Sens' Methot Not Expected To Travel

News: Marc Methot (back) is not expected to travel with the team on its upcoming road trip, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot has been skating recently, but hasn't been doing hockey-related drills and still has yet to be cleared for contact. The Sens will return home Thursday against the Blackhawks, but it seems unlikely that Methot will be available for that game at this point.

Sens' Methot Skates

News: Marc Methot (back) skated on his own Monday, Steve Lloyd of TSN reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot didn't participate in any hockey related drills, so he's probably still not close to returning, but head coach Paul MacLean did call it an improvement. Methot will likely be partnered with Erik Karlsson on the team's top pairing once again when he is able to return.

Sens' Methot Remains Without Return Timetable

News: Marc Methot (back) remains without a return timetable to resume skating, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot was ruled out for the Senators' first three games by virtue of being placed on injured reserve on Oct. 6, but suffice to say, he'll miss some more time beyond that. It's looking likely that his absence could stretch into November, weakening an already suspect Ottawa defense that has surrendered 77 shots on goal through two games.

Sens Place Methot On IR

News: The Sens placed Marc Methot on IR on Monday, Steve Lloyd of TSN reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot is dealing with a sore back, and will be sidelined for the team's season opener Thursday. He'll reclaim his spot alongside Erik Karlsson on the team's top pairing when he's ready, but Jared Cowen will take his place there for now.

Sens' Methot Making Slow Progress

News: Marc Methot wasn't on the ice for Friday's morning skate and may not for the next several days, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports. "Right now, it's been frustrating for him and the medical staff," coach Paul MacLean said.
Analysis: Marc Methot, who is believed to be dealing with back soreness, has been bothered by the injury throughout training camp and has yet to play in a preseason game. It's looking increasingly doubtful that he'll be available for the Sens' Oct. 9 season opener against Nashville, considering how far behind the rest of the team he is in terms of conditioning work. Methot was slated to join Erik Karlsson on the team's top pairing, but it looks like those duties may now fall to Jared Cowen.

Sens' Methot Out Wednesday With Injury

News: Coach Paul MacLean said Marc Methot wouldn't play in either of the Sens' exhibitions Wednesday due to a "re-occurring injury," Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: MacLean didn't offer any insight into the exact nature of Marc Methot's injury, but the ailment is believed to be minor. Look for Methot to take it easy the next couple of days before rejoining the Senators in full. Methot is slated to open the season on a pair with Erik Karlsson, where he'll be expected to shoulder most of the defense burden of the duo.

Senators' Methot Still In Contract Stalemate

News: Marc Methot's agent Larry Kelly has not had any discussions with the Senators regarding a contract extension in the past two weeks, and no meetings are currently scheduled, the Ottawa Sun reports. He is currently making $3 million but is looking for a five-year, $27.5 million deal, similar to the one Brooks Orpik got from the Capitals this summer.
Analysis: Coming off a career year, Marc Methot is trying to parlay his best season into a pay raise. He played in a career-high 75 games last season, recording six goals and 17 assists, also career highs. If the two sides can't come to an agreement soon, it'll be interesting to see if Methot shows up to camp in two weeks or decides to hold out.

Sens, Methot Struggling To Agree On Extension

News: The Senators want to sign Marc Methot to a long-term deal before his contract ends next summer, but talks between the two sides have stalled, according to the Ottawa Citizen. Methot has served as Erik Karlsson's defense partner over the last two seasons when the latter has been healthy.
Analysis: He's earning $3.75 million, but it appears he's asking for Brooks Orpik or Matt Carle kind of money. Orpik inked a five-year, $27.5 million contract with Washington this summer and Carle is going into year two of his six-year, $33 million deal with Tampa Bay. That's steep money for a team that currently sits 28th in payroll and is always rumored to be in money problems. Marc Methot may get traded if the team cannot come to terms with him soon. The Sens are all about leveraging assets right now and he'd be attractive to most other teams as a defensive rudder.

Sens' Methot Has Sore Back

News: Marc Methot will sit out the World Championships due to a sore back, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot was with Team Canada in Zurich for training when he felt some soreness in his back, so the team decided to send him home for further testing. Methot insists that the issue is not serious and that he just decided to shut himself down for precautionary reasons, but if there is something more serious wrong with him we'll likely hear about it in the next couple days.

Sens' Methot Stays Solid

News: Marc Methot finished the season with six goals and 17 assists in 75 games.
Analysis: Marc Methot provides a stay-at-home presence on the Sens' top pairing, making him a perfect complement to his offensive-minded partner Erik Karlsson. That being said, Methot probably holds more value for the team than he does for his fantasy owners, although he is still a factor in deeper leagues.

Rare Two-Point Game For Sens' Methot

News: Marc Methot picked up two assists Tuesday in a win over the Islanders -- his first points since March 18.
Analysis: With a 10-game span between scoresheet appearances under his belt, Marc Methot clearly doesn't inspire much confidence offensively. His last multi-point game was way back on Dec. 21.

Sens' Methot Continuing Steady Play

News: Marc Methot has six goals and 15 assists through 71 games to date.
Analysis: While he's not the most valuable fantasy asset, Marc Methot has been a reliable presence along the Senators' blue line all season. He'll continue to skate around 22 minutes per game moving forward while playing alongside Erik Karlsson on the team's top defensive pairing.

Sens' Methot Playing Well

News: Marc Methot currently has five goals and 13 assists through 54 games this season.
Analysis: Marc Methot is having another solid season, providing steady defensive play next to the offensive style of defensive partner Erik Karlsson. Methot ranks sixth on the team with a plus-2 rating, and should continue to play every night moving forward.

Productive Game For Sens' Methot

News: Marc Methot scored the game's opening goal and went plus-4 in Thursday's win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: A terrific effort for Marc Methot, who's now got three points in his last four games to go with a plus-5 rating and a couple penalty minutes. Methot's never shown much in the way of offensive prowess in his career -- whether in the NHL, AHL or juniors -- but for what it's worth, he's almost certainly headed for his first 20-plus-point campaign.

Sens' Methot Returns To Lineup Saturday

News: Marc Methot (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Saturday vs. the Hurricanes, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot missed Monday's game after sustaining an unspecified injury during morning skate, but recovered quickly and actually ended up being a healthy scratch Thursday with coach Paul MacLean sticking with his same lineup. He'll draw back in for Patrick Wiercioch in Saturday's lineup.

Sens' Methot To Sit Again Thursday

News: Marc Methot (undisclosed) will not play Thursday vs. the Lightning.
Analysis: It's not believed that Marc Methot is dealing with anything more than a minor injury; in fact, he may be fully healthy at this point. Coach Paul MacLean has just decided to stick with the lineup he used Tuesday after the Senators had a strong showing defensively in shutting out the Capitals. Methot could be back in action Friday vs. the Hurricanes.

Sens' Methot Practices

News: Marc Methot (undisclosed) practiced with the team Wednesday morning.
Analysis: Marc Methot was injured Monday at practice, and ended up sitting out Tuesday's game against the Capitals. There's a good chance he'll be in the lineup Thursday against the Lightning, but if he's not healthy enough, expect Patrick Wiercioch to fill in for Methot along the Sens blue line again.

Sens' Methot On Pace For Best Season

News: Marc Methot has three goals and 10 assists in 41 games this season.
Analysis: The blueliner has been paired with Erik Karlsson all season, and can be counted on to skate more than 20:00 TOI on a regular basis. His highest point total for a season to date is 17, so it would appear that he's on pace to pass that easily.

Sens' Methot Pots Two Goals In Loss

News: Marc Methot potted two goals in Saturday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: Marc Methot missed three games recently due to the flu and another as a healthy scratch, but has returned with a vengeance, supplying points in each of his last two contests. It's not typical for Erik Karlsson to be outscored for any stretch of game action by his pairing mate, so expect Methot's offensive numbers to drop off sharply in subsequent contests.

Sens' Methot Expected To Sit Out Wednesday

News: Marc Methot is expected to be a healthy scratch for Wednesday night's game against the Devils, Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot has missed the last three games with the flu, and even though he's apparently healthy, he'll watch Wednesday's game from the press box. He probably lost some weight while he was sick, so the most likely explanation is that he just needs a couple practices to get back into shape before being reinserted into the lineup. When he does return, expect him to retake his spot on the Sens' top pairing alongside Erik Karlsson.

Senators' Methot Out Monday

News: Marc Methot will not play in Monday's game against the Blues, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Mehot was initially reported to be playing in Monday's game against the Blues, but the team decided to give him some extra rest instead. He's feeling better, but having lost weight and strength due to the illness, he'll target a Wednesday return instead.
