Sens' Methot To Require Surgery

News: Marc Methot will require offseason surgery to address a bone chip in his elbow, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot, who also is slowed by a foot issue and hip-flexor injury, is set to undergo an MRI on his elbow before going under the knife. The blueliner, who missed the first two months of the season with a back issue, was a key contributor in the Senators' second-half turnaround, as reflected by his plus-22 rating over 45 games. He'll never be a huge source of offense for the Senators, but his solid play on the back end certainly doesn't go unnoticed by the organization, which rewarded Methot with a four-year contract extension in February.

Sens' Methot Sets Up Two In Win

News: Marc Methot registered two assists and went plus-3 in Saturday's win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Marc Methot has now compiled a plus-6 rating over his last two games, vaulting him up to plus-17 for the season. The blueliner's return in January from a back injury has fortunately coincided with the Senators' vastly improved play since that time, which explains the impressive plus/minus mark. He should continue to be an asset in that category, but the point production figures to remain more scarce, as he typically plays more of a shutdown role to complement Erik Karlsson's free-roaming, puck-moving game.

Sens' Methot Crystallizes In Win

News: Marc Methot scored a goal, added an assist and went plus-3 in Thursday's victory over Montreal.
Analysis: A rare offensive outburst for the blueliner, who still has only eight points in 29 games this season -- but he has gone plus-12, and he offers some value in leagues that count hits and blocks.

Sens Ink Methot To Four-Year Extension

News: Marc Methot has agreed to a four-year extension with the Senators. According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the deal has an AAV of $4.9 million.
Analysis: The contract also includes a modified 10-team no-trade clause, per the organization. Marc Methot's contributions generally come in the defensive zone, as he's chipped in 28 points over 92 games since the start of last season.

Trio Of Assists For Sens' Methot

News: Marc Methot gathered three helpers and two PIM in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: Marc Methot was largely at fault for the Sens falling into an early 1-0 hole, as he failed to catch a puck in midair that Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek scooped up for the score. However, Methot more than atoned for his error, tying his career high for points in a game while finishing as the leading scorer on the afternoon. The three-assist more than doubled Methot's point production from the other 10 games he's played this season.

Sens' Methot Claims Assist

News: Marc Methot claimed an assist in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Finally healthy after missing most of the season with back issues, Marc Methot has settled in on the Sens' top defensive pairing with Erik Karlsson. While there, he's played his usual stay-at-home role, as he's produced just two points and seven shots on goal in his nine games. Most of his contributions will likely come in the form of hits and blocked shots.

Sens' Methot (Back) Set To Play Thursday

News: Coach Dave Cameron said that Marc Methot (back) will return to the lineup Thursday against the Avalanche.
Analysis: With Marc Methot experiencing no setbacks with his persistent back injury following his recently-completed conditioning assignment in the minors, he'll draw in for just his third appearance of the season. His shutdown abilities on the blue line have been missed by the Senators, but Methot hasn't ingratiated himself with fantasy players over his career due to his lack of offensive ability.

Sens' Methot (Back) Returns From Conditioning Work

News: Marc Methot (back) has returned from a conditioning assignment and will practice with the Senators on Monday, but won't play Tuesday according to Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen.
Analysis: Marc Methot reported to AHL Binghamton on Friday to start a conditioning assignment, and apparently the results were pleasing. He has played in just two games with the Senators this season due to back issues, but could be in line to return to the lineup as soon as Thursday against the Avalanche. The team also reassigned Chris Wideman to AHL Binghamton in a corresponding move, leaving Methot as one of only seven defensemen on the roster.

Sens' Methot (Back) To Get Conditioning Work

News: Marc Methot (back) will report to AHL Binghamton on Friday to begin a conditioning assignment, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot will play for Binghamton in Saturday's game before the team determines his next step. The blueliner has been limited to just two games this season, as the back issues have been bothering him since training camp.

No Timetable For Sens' Methot

News: Coach Dave Cameron said Friday that Marc Methot aggravated his back injury and is without a timetable for a return, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: This wasn't unexpected news after the Senators returned Marc Methot to injured reserve Monday, just over a week after he made his season debut. Methot missed over two months with the back injury the first time around, so it wouldn't be a major surprise if an absence of a similar length of time is in store for the blueliner again.

Sens' Methot Returns to IR

News: Marc Methot (back) was placed back on injured reserve and is considered out indefinitely, the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot made his season debut just over a week earlier after he was slow to progress from a recurring back injury that bothered him in training camp, and he lasted just two games before suffering a setback. Given how much time he missed the first time around due to the back injury, it wouldn't be overly surprising if another long absence is in store for the blueliner.

Sens' Methot Set To Sit Saturday

News: Marc Methot (back) is expected to sit out Saturday's game against the Senators, Steve Lloyd of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot's lack of involvement at Friday's practice makes it unlikely that he suits up Saturday, as 1:00 p.m. ET start time won't afford him the opportunity to show the coaching staff he's healthy with no morning skate scheduled. Chris Phillips will likely assume his spot on the top defensive pairing once again.

Senators' Methot Out Thursday

News: Marc Methot (back) will not play Thursday against the Kings, TSN's Brent Wallace reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot took part in Thursday's morning skate, but he is still experiencing soreness in his back, so he will not play Thursday night as he was expected to. Methot's next opportunity to play will come Saturday in Boston.

Sens' Methot Expected To Play Thursday

News: Marc Methot (back) is expected to play Thursday versus the Kings, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: After returning from IR last Thursday, Marc Methot suited up for two games before taking off Sunday's tilt with the Canucks. The defenseman suggested the rest was more for maintenance purposes after the Senators had played three games in four days. With three days off to prepare for Thursday's tilt, Methot should be refreshed and ready to go.

Sens' Methot (Back) Will Sit Sunday

News: Marc Methot (back) will not play Sunday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Marc Methot returned from the injured reserve Thursday but apparently needs some time off the ice as to not risk further injury to his back. Jared Cowen is expected to take his place in the lineup.

Senators Activate Methot

News: Marc Methot (back) was activated from injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: The Senators listed Marc Methot as a game-time decision heading into Thursday's tilt, but his activation would seem to indicate that he'll be back in the lineup for his season debut. Methot was probably the team's top stay-at-home defender last season, as he averaged 21:45 of ice time and collected 181 hits and 110 blocks while working primarily alongside Erik Karlsson on the top pairing.

Sens' Methot A Game-Time Decision Thursday

News: Marc Methot (back) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's tilt with the Islanders, Steve Lloyd of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot, who skated as an extra during morning skate, will participate in the Senators' pregame warmup before a decision is made on his status for the game. If the team determines that Methot is fit to play, he could sidle in next to Erik Karlsson, who he played with on the top pairing last season.

Return Imminent For Sens' Methot

News: Coach Paul MacLean said Marc Methot (back) could make his season debut Thursday against the Islanders, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: A back issue has bothered Marc Methot since training camp, but after skating the last several weeks and ramping up his activity in practice in recent days, his return is considered imminent. MacLean noted that if Methot isn't quite ready to play by Thursday, he'll almost certainly return over the weekend.

Senators' Methot Will Not Play Tuesday As Expected

News: Marc Methot (back) will not play Tuesday against the Islanders, TSN's Aaron Ward reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot was expected to return to action Monday, but the Senators will hold off on activating him from injured reserve for at least another game. Methot's next opportunity to play will come Thursday.

Sens' Methot Could Return Tuesday

News: Marc Methot (back) is expected to play Tuesday against the Islanders, Aaron Ward of TSN reports.
Analysis: The blueliner has missed the entire season so far with a back injury, but should jump right back in on the top pairing next to Erik Karlsson when he's ready. Despite playing with the NHL's most productive defenseman, Marc Methot plays a defensive style, so his fantasy value isn't typically as high as one might think.

Sens' Methot Resumes Skating

News: Marc Methot (back) was able to resume skating with his teammates Tuesday morning, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: It's a step in the right direction for Marc Methot, who had previously been limited to skating on his own while recovering from the back issue. A return to game action doesn't appear forthcoming just yet, but he might be able to start practicing by the end of the week.

Return Timetable For Senators' Methot Uncertain

News: The Senators have yet to set a target date for Marc Methot (back) to return to the ice, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot's health has improved lately, but without any sort of timeline for his return, it remains to be seen when he will make his season debut.

Sens' Methot Won't Play Tuesday

News: Marc Methot (back) is not expected to play Tuesday against Columbus, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: While Marc Methot has been making progress toward a return of late, he won't be on the ice against his former club.

Sens' Methot Not Expected To Travel

News: Marc Methot (back) is not expected to travel with the team on its upcoming road trip, Ian Mendes of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot has been skating recently, but hasn't been doing hockey-related drills and still has yet to be cleared for contact. The Sens will return home Thursday against the Blackhawks, but it seems unlikely that Methot will be available for that game at this point.

Sens' Methot Skates

News: Marc Methot (back) skated on his own Monday, Steve Lloyd of TSN reports.
Analysis: Marc Methot didn't participate in any hockey related drills, so he's probably still not close to returning, but head coach Paul MacLean did call it an improvement. Methot will likely be partnered with Erik Karlsson on the team's top pairing once again when he is able to return.
