Ducks Acquire Kesler From Canucks

News: Ryan Kesler was traded to the Ducks on Friday in exchange for Nick Bonino, Luca Sbisa, and the 24th pick in Friday's draft, ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler's scoring has fallen off the last few seasons, but he is still an established veteran and it did not take a big haul for the Ducks to acquire him. Expect Kesler to center one of the Ducks' top lines next season.

Canucks Waiting On Fair Deal For Kesler

News: If the Canucks don't think they can get a fair deal for Ryan Kesler, they will keep him, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: "I've sat down, I've talked to Ryan," Canucks GM Jim Benning said. "We're talking to teams, but at the end of the day we're going to do what makes the most sense for us, and to try and help Ryan out." Both the Chicago Blackhawks and Anaheim Ducks have been pursuing the 29-year-old second-line center.

Report: Canucks' Kesler Wants Penguins Or Hawks

News: Ryan Kesler wants a trade to Pittsburgh or Chicago, reports the Ottawa Sun.
Analysis: Though it's hard to imagine Ryan Kesler playing for the Canucks' arch-rivals in Chicago, the Blackhawks have long been looking for a real number two center. The price will be steep for Kesler, who has two years remaining on a $5 million deal. The 29-year-old finished the season with 43 points in 77 games -- his lowest full-season point total since the 2007-08 campaign.

Report: Kesler Still Wants Out Of Vancouver

News: Ryan Kesler still wants a trade out of Vancouver, reports TSN.ca's Darren Dreger.
Analysis: He apparently still has six teams on his list and Dreger believes Anaheim and Philly are on that list. The price will be steep -- he still has two years remaining on a team-friendly $5 million deal.

Canucks' Kesler Nets 25th Of Season

News: Ryan Kesler scored an unassisted goal--his 25th tally of the season--in Sunday's season finale against Calgary.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler finishes the year with 25 goals and 43 points in 77 games. In what a very disappointing season for the Canucks, Kesler received the team's MVP award. Though he may have been the best player on the Canucks this season, his production can be considered disappointing for fantasy owners. His 43 points are his lowest full-season point total since the 2007-2008 campaign, while his minus-15 rating is the worst of his career. Looking at the positives, Kesler's 81 PIM were 53rd in the NHL, while his five game-winning goals were tops on the team.

Canucks' Kesler Finds Twine In Loss

News: Ryan Kesler tallied the lone Canucks goal in a loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler now has 24 goals and 18 assists in 72 games, putting him on pace for his lowest full-season point-total since the 2007-2008 campaign. Kesler's defensive game has deteriorated too, as he is now a minus-15 on the season.

Canucks' Kesler Strikes On Power Play

News: Ryan Kesler potted a power-play goal in Wednesday's win over the Wild.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler now has 23 goals and 41 points in 69 games on the season. He has struggled lately, though, tallying only two points (both goals) in his last eight games. Kesler centered the top line on Wednesday, and with Henrik Sedin (leg) currently out of the lineup, the offensive opportunities should continue for the 29-year-old center.

Canucks' Kesler Held Off Scoresheet In Return

News: Ryan Kesler was held pointless in 22:26 of ice time in his return to the lineup Sunday against Buffalo.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler was minus-1 in the 4-2 win over the Sabres. He'd missed the last four games with a sprained left knee. The 29-year-old center only has one point in his last seven games, but has collected 22 goals and 18 assists in 68 games on the season.

News: Ryan Kesler (knee) is slated to return to the Canucks' lineup Sunday against the Sabres, NHL.com reports.

Canucks' Kesler A Game-Time Decision

News: Ryan Kesler (knee) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Sabres, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler, who has missed four games with a knee sprain, last suited up on March 12. If he is unable to suit up Sunday, his next chance to play for the Canucks would come Wednesday against the Wild.

Canucks To Reassess Kesler On Sunday

News: Ryan Kesler (knee) will be re-examined by the team's medical staff Sunday.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler has been sidelined for the past two weeks with the sprained knee, but Sunday's checkup could go a long way toward establishing a firmer return date for the center. The Canucks have seen their playoff hopes dwindle over the last couple of weeks, but with Daniel Sedin set to return to the lineup Sunday, a possible forthcoming Kesler comeback could provide exactly the jolt Vancouver needs.

Canucks' Kesler To Miss At Least A Few Of Weeks

News: Coach John Tortorella said Friday that Ryan Kesler has a sprained knee and is "out at least a couple of weeks."
Analysis: Tortorella offered a bleak outlook on Ryan Kesler's status after he suffered the injury Wednesday night, and Friday's comments only seem to verify as much. Even if Kesler is healthy enough to return at some point during April, don't be surprised if the sagging Canucks choose to shut him down for the rest of the season if they find themselves further away from the Western Conference playoff picture.

Canucks' Kesler Out For Rest Of Road Trip

News: Ryan Kesler (knee) will be sidelined for the remaining three games of the Canucks' road trip, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Even though the Canucks collected a rare win Wednesday, the state of affairs continue to get worse in Vancouver, as the scoring-starved team was already without Daniel Sedin and Mike Santorelli. Ryan Kesler was spotted wearing a brace after the game and will be reevaluated back in Vancouver during the road trip before the team provides a timetable for his return.

Canucks' Kesler Leaves With Apparent Knee Injury

News: Ryan Kesler sustained an apparent knee injury in the second period of Wednesday's game vs. the Jets and did not come back out for the third, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler looked to be in serious pain after his knee collided with the Jets' Jim Slater, who was penalized for tripping. The team hasn't provided any word on the center's status, but even if it's determined to be a minor injury, it's probably safe to hold him out for the rest of the game in what is slowly turning into a nightmare season for the Canucks. Though Kesler wasn't dealt over the trade deadline, he could still be headed for an unceremonious parting with the Canucks in the offseason.

Canucks' Kesler Nets Power-Play Goal In Loss

News: Ryan Kesler scored his team-leading 22nd goal of the season on a power play in Monday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler now has two goals in six games since the Olympic break. He had a strong fantasy night on Monday, racking up 10 PIM, dishing out three hits, while leading all forwards with 24:28 of ice time. Kesler now has 40 points in 66 games this season, to go with a disappointing minus-12 rating.

Kesler Staying Put For Canucks

News: Ryan Kesler remains a member of the Canucks after the trade deadline passed, Hockey Night in Canada's Elliotte Friedman reports.
Analysis: A rumor suggesting Ryan Kesler had been dealt to the Penguins started to gain some traction about 15 minutes before the deadline, but it proved to be a hoax. While Kesler will stick with the Canucks for the rest of the season, it seems highly likely that the center could be dealt during the offseason. Any interested suitors would surely have to meet Vancouver's lofty asking price that would likely include a top-flight prospect and draft picks in order to acquire Kesler.

Canucks' Kesler Targeted By Penguins

News: Ryan Kesler is being actively pursued by the Penguins as the March 5 trade deadline approaches, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune Review.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler is widely considered one of the top five two-way forwards in the game, and in less than a week has become the most high profile player in trade talks outside of the Isles' Thomas Vanek. Imagine the former 41-goal scorer and Selke Trophy winner lining up beside Sidney Crosby? Yikes. Penguins GM Ray Shero is notorious for acquiring marquee players at or near the trade deadline, with guys like Marian Hossa, Jarome Iginla, and James Neal highlighting his resume. On the Pittsburgh side, it's the perfect storm: Injuries to Kris Letang and Pascal Dupuis have provided salary cap relief, they have a glut of appealing defensemen in their system to part with, and they desire eventually to return to the "big-three centre format" (Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Jordan Staal) that brought them a Cup in 2009. The Pens are reportedly willing to part with Brandon Sutter, two 2014 draft picks, and either defenseman Brian Dumoulin or Simon Despres, a former first-rounder. Needless to say, Kesler's value would skyrocket if he gets the chance to don the Vegas gold with Sid and Co. Regardless of where Kesler ends up, we'll know by 3pm ET Wednesday if he's played his last game as an Orca.

Canucks' Kesler Scores Shorthanded In Loss To Wild

News: Ryan Kesler scored a shorthanded goal in Friday's shootout loss to the Wild. It was his team-leading 21st tally of the season.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler's goal was the only tally by the Canucks on Friday, as the team continues to slump offensively, scoring only six goals in their last six games. Dating back to before the Olympic break, Kesler, who missed Wednesday's game against the Blues with a hand injury, has now scored in back-to-back games. He has 39 points in 61 games on the season, but sports a disappointing minus-9 rating.

Canucks' Kesler Will Play Friday

News: Ryan Kesler (hand) will play in Friday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler suffered the hand injury while blocking a shot in the Olympics and it lingered over into the start of the post-break NHL schedule. After appearing to be a full participant in practice Thursday, Kesler has been deemed ready to play Friday.

Canucks' Kesler Practices Thursday

News: Ryan Kesler (hand) appeared to be fully participating in practice Thursday, according to Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun.
Analysis: The report also notes that Ryan Kesler was seeing first-team power play reps on Thursday, which suggests that the forward could play Friday against the Wild.

Canucks' Kesler Seen With Small Cast

News: Ryan Kesler (hand) was seen leaving Rogers Arena on Wednesday with a small cast and a bandaged left hand, Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Though Ryan Kesler is currently labeled as day-to-day, this sighting makes it seem like the injury could be more serious than expected. There is yet to be a timetable for his return, so stay tuned for a further update. Kesler has been the focus of many trade rumors of late, with reports circulating that Kesler wants out of Vancouver. This injury, if serious, could add more complexity to the situation.

Canucks' Kesler: Agent Says No Trade Requested

News: Ryan Kesler's agent Kurt Overhardt says a report that his client had asked for a trade is "a bunch of b.s.," reports TSN.ca.
Analysis: Who knows what's truth and what's fiction? Ryan Kesler has two more years on a six-year, $30 million contract and the Orcas are going nowhere fast. Overhardt was clearly peeved by reports earlier Wednesday night. This may get very, very interesting, particularly if teams like Chicago, Columbus or even Toronto get involved.

Canucks' Kesler (Hand): Wants Out Of Vancouver?

News: Ryan Kesler (hand) has requested a trade out of Vancouver, but the Canucks do not want to move him, reports Louis Jean of TVA Sports.
Analysis: Jean says the request goes back to the start of the season and there's speculation, although unconfirmed, that it's related to the Tortorella effect. However, it may be hard to get value for him right now given his broken hand, so the move may come at the draft. But it's rare for a center like Ryan Kesler to come on the market. Trade deadline day might actually be interesting this year if Kesler is in play.

Canucks' Kesler Out Wednesday

News: Ryan Kesler (hand) will not play Wednesday against the Blues.
Analysis: Ryan Kesler will miss Wednesday's game after injuring his hand blocking a shot in the Olympics for Team USA. The good news is that coach John Tortorella said he's day-to-day, so there's no reason to believe he'll miss an extended period of time.

Canucks' Kesler Day-To-Day, Having MRI

News: Ryan Kesler -- who evidently injured his hand while blocking a shot on Feb. 15 during the Sochi Olympics -- is slated to undergo an MRI, the Vancouver Province reports. He did not take part in Tuesday's practice.
Analysis: Meanwhile, coach John Tortorella referred to Ryan Kesler as "day-to-day" in advance of Wednesday's game against the Blues. With Kesler dinged up, the Canucks have added some forward depth by recalling Kellan Lain.
