Sens' MacArthur Dealing With Concussion

News: Coach Dave Cameron confirmed Friday that Clarke MacArthur's upper-body injury has been diagnosed as a concussion, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur's concussion stems from a collision in Monday's loss to the Hurricanes with teammate Robin Lehner, who was also diagnosed with the head injury and placed on injured reserve. Concussions typically result in volatile recovery timetables depending on the severity of the injury as well as the player's own personal history, so it's tough to speculate on when MacArthur's activation might come. In the meantime, he'll remain under the league's concussion protocol, keeping him off the ice until further notice.

Senators Place MacArthur On IR

News: Clarke MacArthur (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur collided with teammate Robin Lehner in Monday's loss to the Hurricanes, resulting in injuries and now IR stints for both players. While MacArthur will be eligible to return to action as soon as the Senators' Feb. 25 game against the Ducks, but there's no evidence yet that he'll be ready by that time. He has yet to resume skating since suffering the injury.

Sens' MacArthur Likely To Sit Out Wednesday

News: Clarke MacArthur (undisclosed injury) likely won't be available for Wednesday's game against the Canadiens, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur, who has recorded 26 points in 53 games to date, looks iffy for Wednesday after colliding with goalie Robin Lehner in Monday's loss to the Hurricanes.

Sens' MacArthur Departs With Injury Monday

News: Clarke MacArthur was removed from Monday's loss to the Hurricanes following a collision with teammate Robin Lehner, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur appeared to take the brunt of the hit, as Lehner was able to exit the ice under his own power. Meanwhile, a stretcher was brought on the ice for MacArthur, but the forward ended up walking off the ice with assistance from his teammates. The nature of MacArthur's injury hasn't been revealed by the Senators, but his head appeared to collide with Lehner's shoulder, suggesting a concussion might be in play. The winger, who has 26 points in 53 games, had just returned to action Monday after missing Saturday's 7-2 win over the Oilers due to the flu.

Senators' MacArthur (Illness) Returns Monday

News: Clarke MacArthur (illness) returned to the ice for Monday's game against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: With Clarke MacArthur's return to the ice Monday, he should be available moving forward ahead of Wednesday's game against the Canadiens. As it stands, the 29-year-old has 13 goals and 13 assists on the season despite missing his third game of the season with an illness against the Oilers on Saturday.

Sens' MacArthur Out With Flu Saturday

News: Coach Dave Cameron said that Clarke MacArthur is dealing with the flu and will not play Saturday against the Oilers, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur also missed a game in December due to illness, but he's otherwise been a picture of health for the Senators, suiting up in 52 games. His absence Saturday will deprive the team of a top-six forward, with Mike Hoffman more than likely sliding up to the Mika Zibanejad-Bobby Ryan line to cover for him.

Sens' MacArthur Picks Up Assist Thursday

News: Clarke MacArthur collected an assist and attempted two shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: It's been mostly crickets for Clarke MacArthur the last two weeks. The assist gave him his first point in five games, and he's only attempted seven shots during that time. With 25 points and a minus-9 rating for the season, MacArthur looks like no better than a medium-sized option in fantasy leagues.

Sens' MacArthur: Two-Point Night Including Winner

News: Clarke MacArthur scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 5-1 win over Arizona. The goal stood up as the game winner.
Analysis: Four of his 12 goals have been winners, so he's clutch when he does find twine. He's behind his pace of last season and may only finish in the mid-40s. But right now, his six points, including three goals, in seven games makes him a worthy activation ... at least in the short term.

Point Streak Mounts For Sens' MacArthur

News: Clarke MacArthur extended his point streak to four games with an assist in Sunday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur has delivered two goals and two assists during that time, giving him 11 and 10 for the season, respectively. By virtue of being a top-line forward on Ottawa's roughly league-average offensive attack, MacArthur warrants attention, but he's unlikely to ascend to upper-tier status among fantasy wingers over the remainder of the season.

Sens' MacArthur Tallies 10th Goal Saturday

News: Clarke MacArthur tallied an unassisted goal in Saturday's overtime loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: The goal was the 10th of the season for Clarke MacArthur, but just his first since Dec. 2. In the nine games in between, he managed just one assist on 18 shot attempts. He deserves something of a mulligan for suffering from the flu during the middle of the stretch, but the returns have still been rather disappointing.

Sens' MacArthur (Flu) Back At Practice

News: Clarke MacArthur (illness) was back at practice Friday, Steve Lloyd of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: The flu forced Clarke MacArthur out of Thursday's game against the Kings, but it seems like the night off was exactly what he needed to regain stamina. He should be ready to go for Saturday's game in Boston.

Sens' MacArthur (Illness) Doubtful To Play

News: Clarke MacArthur (illness) is doubtful to play Thursday against the Kings, Steve Lloyd of TSN 1200 reports.
Analysis: Coach Dave Cameron officially labeled Clarke MacArthur as a game-time decision, but because the winger missed the team's morning skate with the flu, he'll likely sit out barring a swift recovery in the afternoon. It would mark the first game MacArthur has missed this season, with Colin Greening expected to take his spot in the lineup.

Sens' MacArthur Officially Out Thursday

News: Clarke MacArthur (illness) isn't on the ice for pregame warmups and will not play Thursday against the Kings, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: As anticipated, Clarke MacArthur hasn't fully recovered from the flu and will miss his first contest of the season. Colin Greening will jump from the press box to the first line Thursday, where he's expected to skate alongside Kyle Turris and Erik Condra.

Sens' MacArthur Leaves Practice With Illness

News: Clarke MacArthur left Wednesday's practice early due to an illness, TSN's Steve Lloyd reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur made it about halfway through practice before retreating to the the locker room. Interim coach Dave Cameron said the forward should be fine to play Thursday against the Kings, but his availability won't be confirmed until he takes part in the team's gameday skate. Illness aside, MacArthur has been slumping of late, producing only one point in his last six games.

Sens' MacArthur Notches Ninth Goal

News: Clarke MacArthur notched his ninth goal of the season in Tuesday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur helped extend the game to overtime after scoring the tying goal with 9:46 remaining, but it wasn't enough to dispatch the surging Islanders. The winger is tied for second on the team with 16 points.

Sens' MacArthur: Point Streak Hits Three Games

News: Clarke MacArthur potted his eighth goal of the season in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Flames.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur has recorded a point in three consecutive games, bringing his total to 13 over 17 games on the season. He hasn't enjoyed a run of truly eye-popping production during any stretch of the season thus far, but his consistency might be a more appreciated quality by his fantasy owners.

Sens' MacArthur Surging

News: Clarke MacArthur supplied an empty-net goal in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: While Tuesday's tally wasn't particularly impressive, it still gives Clarke MacArthur his fourth goal and fifth point in the last four games, vaulting into the team lead for the season in both categories.

Ottawa's MacArthur Tallies Three Points

News: Clarke MacArthur registered two goals and an assist in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Two of Clarke MacArthur's three points came on the power play, where scoring chances should remain plentiful while he sees time with the likes of Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson. The 29-year-old is also locked into a first-line role at even strength and has been a capable producer in any capacity this season, netting four goals and three assists over his eight games. He'll have good odds of surpassing last season's total of 55 points.

Sens' MacArthur Finds Twine Monday

News: Clarke MacArthur was the lone goal scorer in Monday's 1-0 victory over the Panthers in Sunrise.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur's first goal of the season was a second-period power-play marker that eventually held up as the game winner. It'll likely be a tall task for the ninth-year NHLer to surpass his career high in goals from last year (24), but with Jason Spezza gone and MacArthur locked into a top-line role with Bobby Ryan and Kyle Turris, there's no reason why he can't at least come close. If, by chance, MacArthur is available in your league, see if you can make space for him: he's looked good beside Ryan and Turris thus far and adds a bit of snarl in the PIM department also (78 last year).

Sens Extend MacArthur Five Years

News: Clarke MacArthur inked a five-year, $23.25 million extension with the Senators on Tuesday, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur was already under contract for $3.25 million for this season, so the new five-year deal won't kick in until 2015-16, keeping him under team control through the end of the 2019-20 campaign. The 29-year-old totaled a career-best 24 goals, 78 PIM and plus-12 rating in his first season in Ottawa, and will be counted on to fill a top-line role long-term on the left wing.

Sens' MacArthur Impressive With New Team

News: Clarke MacArthur ended the season with 24 goals and 31 assists in 79 games.
Analysis: The winger was also a plus-12 on the year, and chipped in 78 PIM as well. He was one of the bright spots for a largely underwhelming Senators roster, and should be back with linemates Kyle and Turris and Bobby Ryan again next season.

MacArthur Busy In Ottawa Win

News: Clarke MacArthur grabbed a goal and two assists in Friday's 5-3 win over Chicago, the second consecutive game in which he's scored.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur has been quietly productive all season with a steady 52 points through 70 games. Ottawa doesn't have much left to play for the remainder of the season, but MacArthur figures to remain one of the team's scoring threats.

Sens' MacArthur (Hand): Two Points In Return

News: Clarke MacArthur (hand) scored a goal and picked up an assist in his return to action Saturday. He also delivered four hits and finished plus-1 in the loss to Montreal.
Analysis: He'd been mired in a horrible slump (one goal, two assists) in his previous 11 games. Hopefully this is the beginning of a nice run.

Sens' MacArthur Expected Back Saturday

News: Clarke MacArthur (hand) is expected back in the lineup Saturday against the Canadiens, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: With word surfacing that Clarke MacArthur will not need surgery to repair the injured tendon in his hand, it appears the forward will simply rest for the next week with the hope of improvement. Fortunately for the Senators, they'll only have one game on the schedule before Saturday's tilt with Montreal, allowing MacArthur to avoid a long-term absence if he recovers as anticipated.

Sens' MacArthur To Avoid Hand Surgery

News: Clarke MacArthur will not need surgery on his injured hand and could return to the lineup as soon as next Saturday, the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Clarke MacArthur isn't playing Saturday and won't play Monday but could conceivably return next weekend. He injured a tendon in his hand and is hoping that the pain will die down with rest in the next few days.
