Kings Appear Set To Keep Richards

News: The Kings have decided to not buy out the remaining years on Mike Richards' contract, the LA Times reports.
Analysis: Mike Richards had a very disappointing regular season (11 goals, 30 assists in 82 games) but his play picked up a bit in the postseason and it appears he's sticking in LA for the upcoming season.

Richards Caps Scoring For Kings In Game 3 Win

News: Mike Richards scored his third goal of the postseason in Monday's 3-0 win over the Rangers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals.
Analysis: Relgated to a fourth-line role for most of these playoffs, Mike Richards hasn't benefited from many scoring opportunities, accumulating just 10 points in 24 postseason contests. He'll continue to provide most of his value to the Kings on the defensive end as the series winds down.

Kings' Richards Chips In Goal In Victory

News: Mike Richards scored just his second goal of the postseason and added an assist in Friday's series-clincher over Anaheim.
Analysis: Mike Richards has found himself in more of a checking role and will be counted on to keep Chicago's offense in check in the Western Conference finals. He has just five points (two goals, three assists) in the playoffs so far.

Kings' Richards Finally Scores In Game 3

News: Mike Richards finally delivered his first goal of this year's playoffs Thursday, scoring with 31 seconds left at the end of a 3-2 loss to the Ducks in Game 3.
Analysis: With the Kings trailing by two goals at the time, the tally was much more important to Mike Richards and his fantasy owners than it was to this game. Richards has just three points in 10 playoff games so far -- a far cry from the 27 points he's totaled in 35 playoff contests over the last two seasons.

Kings' Richards Stays Cold Against Old Mates

News: Mike Richards went minus-1, took four shots and lost 10 of 13 faceoffs in Monday's loss to Philadelphia.
Analysis: Though Mike Richards finally had a positive note on Saturday, scoring a goal in a win over Florida, it was right back to the doldrums in this one -- his seventh pointless effort in eight games. Still just 29, he's fallen a long way. In his Flyers days -- even counting his relatively quiet rookie season -- Richards averaged a very fine .77 points per game; since coming to Los Angeles, he's averaging .60 points per game. He's scored fewer goals in three years with the Kings (30) than he did in 2009-10 with the Flyers (31).

Kings' Richards Season Long Drought Continues

News: Mike Richards has just four points (two goals, two assists) in his last 17 games.
Analysis: Mike Richards appeared to be getting back on track briefly after the Olympics break but hasn't found the scoresheet in his last four games.

Kings' Richards Scores Again Thursday

News: Mike Richards scored for the second time in three games in Thursday's 3-1 win over Winnipeg.
Analysis: Mike Richards had scored just one goal in his previous 36 games prior to his last three games. He'll be reunited with Jeff Carter after the trade for Marian Gaborik and has shown excellent chemistry with Carter in the past. He's worth a look if he's been waiver bait due to the prolonged scoring slump.

Kings' Richards: First Goal Since Late November

News: Mike Richards scored just his second goal since late November in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: He does have three points in his last four games. But 38 points, including eight goals, in 62 games just aren't enough for fantasy owners given where he was drafted.

Richards Warming For Kings

News: Mike Richards grabbed a pair of assists in Tuesday's loss to Columbus, giving him points in three straight games.
Analysis: He's got a goal and four helpers in these three contests -- a nice turnaround from the horrible slump he was mired in from mid-December into mid-January. Even with the struggles Mike Richards has experienced at times this year, his 35 points in 51 games certainly play in a variety of fantasy formats.

Kings' Richards: First Goal In 24 Games

News: Mike Richards scored his first goal in his last 24 games and added an assist in Saturday's loss to Detroit. Both points came on the power play.
Analysis: The sound you hear is the sigh of relief in L.A. -- Mike Richards has been mired in a horrible slump (three assists in 16 games coming into Saturday night). It's clear his point-per-game pace is far behind him in the rearview mirror, but there's still hope he might one day be a 60-point pivot again. Right now, we're just not convinced, but we're willing to wait a little longer for more signs of life.

Kings' Richards Goal Drought Continues

News: Mike Richards, who registered eight shots on goal Saturday but who hasn't scored a goal in 21 games, vows to start shooting more often, the Los Angeles Times reports. "I've just got to start getting back to shooting first and looking for second options later," Richards said.
Analysis: Mike Richards is skating on a line with Tyler Toffoli and Matt Frattin recently which certainly isn't helping his production of late but perhaps his renewed focus on putting the puck on net will begin to bear fruit.

Richards' Struggles Continue For Kings

News: Mike Richards, who failed to register a point Tuesday, has just one point in his last 12 games.
Analysis: Mike Richards has a respectable 28 points (six goals, 22 assists) in 44 games this season but has really seen his production drop off lately as the Kings continue to struggle to score goals. Expect his struggles to continue as long as the Kings' offense remains dormant.

Kings' Richards Assists Twice

News: Mike Richards grabbed a pair of assists and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 6-0 rout of the Canadiens.
Analysis: He's been very productive for fantasy owners over his last four games, collecting five assists and a plus-6 rating. Mike Richards is shaping up to make a run at 60 points this year for the first time since 2010-11 with the Flyers.

LA's Richards Stays Hot

News: Mike Richards collected a goal and two assists in the Kings' wipeout of the Canucks on Saturday night. This is his third multi-point game in his last four contests.
Analysis: He has five goals and five assists in 10 games, and is contributing well in most fantasy formats.

Richards Hot Streak Continues For Kings

News: Mike Richards has four goals and eight points in his last nine games after picking up a goal and an assist Thursday.
Analysis: Mike Richards got off to a slow start but has found his scoring touch lately. Both of his points Thursday came on the power play.

Richards Nets Second Goal Of Season For Kings

News: Mike Richards scored for the second consecutive game Sunday against the Oilers, notching the Kings' lone regulation goal in a shootout win.
Analysis: After failing to score in his first 10 games, he's managed a goal in each of his last two and has a modest three-game point streak going.

First Goal For Kings' Richards

News: Mike Richards finally picked up his first goal Thursday, scoring the go-ahead goal on a shorthanded break in a win over Phoenix.
Analysis: He'd tallied six assists in the first 10 games of the year, but hadn't found any twine 'til Thursday. Mike Richards took a season-high four shots on goal in this one, offering some hope that he's breaking out of his early-season shooting funk. He'd only put 14 pucks on goal coming into Thursday's play.

Kings' Richards Picks Up Two Assists In Win

News: Mike Richards picked up a pair of assists Wednesday in a win over the Senators.
Analysis: Mike Richards did all his damage with the man advantage, as the Kings racked up three power-play goals in the game. He'll continue to take regular shifts on the second line in addition to his time on the team's primary power-play unit.

Richards' Power-Play Goals Not Enough For LA

News: Mike Richards scored twice on power plays in a 3-2 loss to Colorado on Saturday night.
Analysis: His preseason stats have been strong enough to suggest a return to the 60-plus-point form that he displayed as a member of the Flyers. His first two campaigns in a Kings sweater have been statistical disappointments, although he tends to turn it on in the playoffs.

Richards (Upper Body) Gets Two Points For Kings

News: Mike Richards (upper body) returned to action Saturday night, scoring the game-tying goal with less than 10 seconds remaining in the third period. He also had an assist in the loss.
Analysis: OK, the goal came courtesy of a shot that went off his butt, but a goal is a goal. He has plenty of time to recover from his injury in the offseason.

Kings' Richards (Upper Body) Scheduled To Play Saturday

News: Mike Richards (upper body) is scheduled to play in Saturday's Game 5 against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Just a day ago, coach Darryl Sutter claimed Mike Richards was "really doubtful at best" for Saturday's tilt, but it looks like the 28-year-old will return for Game 5 following a three-game absence. He took part in the morning skate and apparently made it through warmups without issue.

Kings' Richards (Upper Body) Taking Part In Warmups

News: Mike Richards (upper body) is taking warmup prior to Saturday's Game 5 against the Blackhawks, Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Though coach Darryl Sutter had said Mike Richards was "really doubtful at best" to play Saturday, the 28-year-old center took line rushes during the morning skate and is on the ice for pregame warmups. It's uncertain, however, whether he'll be active or instead miss a fourth straight game.

Kings' Richards A Possibility?

News: Although coach Darryl Sutter previously called Mike Richards - who has missed the last three games with an upper-body injury - "really doubtful at best" for Saturday's Game 5 against the Blackhawks, he's participating in the morning skate and is even taking line rushes, according to Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times
Analysis: Consider Mike Richards a definite possibility at this stage for the team's do-or-die game, but it's also worth noting he was working with the fourth liners at practice. Still, this seems to be an improvement in his status.

Kings' Richards Unlikely For Game 5

News: Mike Richards (upper body) seems "really doubtful at best" for Saturday's Game 5 according to head coach Darryl Sutter, the LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: The Kings didn't skate Friday which certainly makes it even more unlikely that Mike Richards will return. Don't expect Richards on Saturday as the Kings try to stave off elimination.

Kings' Richards Out For Game 4

News: Mike Richards (upper body) has been ruled out of Thursday's Game 4 against Chicago, the LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: Mike Richards took a hard hit during Game 1 of the series and has not played since. When addressing Richards' availability Thursday, Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said, "He didn't skate today, so he won't play tonight." It appears that Richards will have to pass team protocol before he can play, suggesting he probably suffered a concussion.
